hello everyone my name is David I'm joined by my host here Daniel today we want to talk to a special person that we think is perfect for discussion hi everyone my name is David I'm a 22 years old a young businessman who just recently started my business but already have some success I'm working right now with my brother as a partner it's been two years in the business the first question that comes to my mind is what motivated you to start your kitchen cabinet business kitchen cabinet business Cabinetry business we do also closets vanities wall
units some other project anything that can be made with a design as a cabinets is works with this before I started the business I was working in the company that was selling kitchen cabinets and it was pretty small company but for me it was important to make sales because sales is most important in a business once I got enough knowledge about this business how it works have everything should work I was working in that business for two years and then I realized I already received all the knowledge I could take from there once I decided
I the job that I was working and started my own with a small budget and it was hard but it worth it definitely David I really love the story I actually see that you guys have a lot of difficulties in the beginning just like you said that you opened business with your brother could you just tell me what were the difficulties you experienced in the process of creating your own business when I started my business the only thing I knew how the sales work I already had the base of the clients the list of potential
clients that's still keeping me to call for other projects such as contractors the main issue was that we didn't have that big budget we had $8,000 to start IB the first equipment which was the table saw to cut the material rented the place took all the service like internet garbage disposing electricity gas all those Services the biggest problem was the management it was hard to manage everything by yourself I started business with my brother and uncle and they were only installing and making the work by hands they were cutting materials preparing the orders delivering installing
I was the one who was managing the most tough work was to make everything organize and always to calculate to make sure that you are on the right way interesting wow well I'm curious you mentioned that you had a budget of $8,000 for a business like this what would you say is a good amount a necessary amount for you to be okay is 8,000 slightly under budget is 8,000 very little money how much do you need realistically to start a business like that properly the way I was thinking to do is to produce my own
kitchens to have my own equipment to make the kitchens to buy the material and make it into the kitchens the 8,000 for this kind of business is a very low budget because now those days the table saw is not enough to have as equipment and you always require more equipment to have the newest latest technology in order to make a quality stuff in my case it was very low budget but those days there is a lot of companies who can cut the materials for you in that case if you use this way then 8,000 will
be enough to make the first two jobs started and then it's just going to keep going and you you will have more amount to to work with it so those days it should be enough to start it that's very good information for people who would want to start a business because from my point of view if I would like to start a business like that I would think that you need a lot of money to start right I would like to ask you how did you educ at yourself and how did you find out about
the information who did you get the information from on how to properly start the business did you have a mentor you also mentioned that you worked with the person on another business did you learn everything from him or you learned Mo mostly from other people the work that I did as a sale guy in a kitchen company it was half of the information that I reached and knew the another half information that I had was reading the business books about self-development the management marketing since I was 15 but the books is just to have an
idea to see what is possible to do what other businesses reached in their way what can be possible done which was more like motivating you because the most scary thing in the business is to start it because it's not all the time profit because the first year of my business I was making loses and it it was hard I was in Dept but with the second year I already started get out from the dept and earning enough to have my breath on the table and to keep other working in the business the very important thing
is to learn from mistakes mistakes will happen you're never going to knew everything on front you will always make a mistake that's going to make you stop working with this but then once you learn from mistakes you step out of this problems and then you keep going you will make less mistakes and better work and results you mentioned that you did a lot of reading to educate yourself we know that you decided to take a not standard approach to education you didn't decide to go to a college or a trade school is there a reason
why you decided that you would rather learn from books and from work experience rather than going to a school in my case because I'm Ukrainian I came here when I was almost 16 before my birth I came here and it's a new life it is hard to start once I finished the school I was thinking about to get education in marketing because I knew I want to be a businessman I just didn't know which one but marketing can goes to any business because business is about the sales in that time I needed to help my
parents and after school I got my first job to to help financially my parents and myself it's better to have education because 90% of successful business is leaded by successful educated guys only 10% is by guys who didn't even finish college or school so there is like Miracle but it's more about hard work and smart work do you think it is luck or hard work that got you where you are today I will say hard work and not giving up because the one thing when you're hardly working but you have results and another thing is
when you hard working but you don't see the results and you have to not give up it's needed for all people all all businesses in any kind of related works you just have to believe and keep going maybe it's not good today but it will be better tomorrow leading from the information that you guys just discussed I would like to ask the question since you said that you are one of the 10% of the people of the young entrepreneurs who do this kind of business do you think that other people who are older than you
have more success in this field do do you you think that your age depends on how much you make and how much sales you close does it affect it at all or does it help you in any way of course young age is harder you have less life experience less view on how thing works less experience in life how it can change but mainly the the business is about the soul and the spirit that you have that you want to do it because if you're not ready to face the hard moments you not going to
start it the agees doesn't affect it businesses that started by 50 years old guys who have more than 20 experience once they started they didn't have that calculation that they never saw before because you always have to make sure that you have enough time to calculate is it profitable or not the first few months I didn't calculate what my earning was but when I calculated I realized that I was in the minus and I was losing at that time it is more about experience and how you're looking at things so the age is not really
a big question the younger you start the better it's going to be because when I will be 30 I already going to knew so much stuff that those who didn't start they just don't know would you consider starting earlier if you could or no yes the earlier start the better the only reason is when you're young you don't have to have a lot of money to keep those expenses that most comes in the age like after 25 in most cases people start getting married family you already have the bills that you cannot just miss in
the payments but when you're young you don't have it you're more free and you have more movement more opportunity to risk so the younger you start the better it will be for you of course it's going to be hard but it's worth it I want I want to add to both of your points I think it it is truly a common problem that no matter what age you are you look excuses not to do something when you are 18 you say oh I'm too young no one will respect me when you're 22 you say oh
well well I'm busy in college i't too busy for it when you're 30 you say oh well I have a family I don't have time I need to raise kids you'll say the same thing at 40 at 50 you will say oh well I'm too old I can't do this I think I think to learn to not use excuses and just figure out how to achieve goal and not let anything stop you there's an expression the best time to start is now not later not tomorrow it's now and I I think it's really powerful that
you follow that rule you didn't wait for you to get older you didn't wait for you to get an education you said I want to become successful I want to help my family and you started now and that's really impressive and I would also add that it's really uncomfortable sometimes to do something right away right because you have a lot of stuff that you have to manage but since we're pretty young at this age we don't really have anything to lose at this point we don't have much but for some young people it be it
can be like oh I can miss my time when I'm young I don't want I don't want to work too hard and I think it's a mindset that doesn't really lead you anyway in life you're just going to waste your waste your time when you have the most energy because you don't have a lot of responsibilities I think it's the best time to start anything and I'm really glad that David you started your own business in such a young age even though that you have quite a lot of difficulties but life is difficulties right so
we have to face them and it just depends how you manage them how you look at them if you are scared of course you're going to lose but if you're like oh this is part of life I need to manage them this is a way to go true words I imagine that being young and having a nice life is very difficult to manage to have time how would you descri describe your daily routine how do you manage your time how do you stay productive and still have a work life balance and do you have a
work life balance today's day the first thing when I start working is I'm making the schedule on a paper on a calendar some notes I make the schedule of the list that I want to do today and if I will have time to make it today or tomorrow from that l L I'm always circling the most important part that for sure 100% I need to make it today and if I didn't have time the not important thing I can just schedule for tomorrow because it is important to organizing your time and work in order to
be productive because it seems like it's a lot like 12 14 hours a day in most cases 8 or 10 of them you will work maximum in my case I work maybe around 8 10 a.m. 10 p hours a day back when I started I was working 12 14 hours I didn't have too much choice I knew that where I'm going and it was hard to do that but right now I'm able to schedule my time I worked fin about 7 8:00 p.m. I still can accept some phone calls after that but after that I'm
just taking my time for myself because it is important to have a good rest so you can think about other ideas projects so it's important to keep the scheduling we're on the topic uh do you expect your schedule to change are you going to be adapting and hire a new team or you will expand your business how you think your schedule will look like and how also you think your business will look like in 10 years from now point on I'm always thinking how to grow my business it is hard to tell what it's going
to be in 10 years but at this moment I already know what my next steps in the business my next step is to grow I'm planning to take a sales guy who I can teach how to take the measurements how to talk with the clients how to manage it how the payments work and in order to have more volumes that will help me have a lot of work per month which right now we do kitchen cabinets the business the way we don't have to spend too much time in order to take one order because most
businesses they just want to have one job per month but to have as much profit as possible my way is not my job is to take one job that I can make it fast easy and with a quality so in order for me to take more jobs per month and uh to have more volumes in 10 years hopefully I'm going to be a millionaire and I want to have most of my family to be involved so they can also work with me it is important to have a good team that will lead you to Su
and who will always motivate you to work to think about other employees because it's important to take care of your employees because once you take care of them they're going to take care of your business and it will help you I like that you have very very good goals like you don't say oh I want to be average I want to be above average you say no I want to be a millionaire set your bar set your goals high that's good going from the future to the present you have a very unique strategy for marketing
and finding clients it's quite common that businesses like this use online marketing strategies like adver advertising on Instagram Facebook online right you chose very traditional method such as Billboards and direct phone calls is there a reason why you chose to Market like this and would you change it or do you think you're doing something different that is better than other people right now this strategy is because when I was a sale guy in other company before I started my own the guy told me that if you make the client happy he will give your phone
number to his friends I took it as the base that you don't need marketing too much like social medias that whatever is popular right now if you take enough base to work with and if you're going to keep them happy with your work you're going to give them the good results that they're going to be happy with their work you're going to take care of the quality the time to make sure that everything is on time they're just going to spread your phone number and with time is going to grow itself right now those days
to to have a good marketing it's a very big amount of money to to spend on and in future I'm thinking to for sure increase my social medias and uh to have my business on internet but right now I have enough work with the those contractors and clients that I already reached that already did some work and because they like what I did they going to come back to me again with new projects that of course I'm going to take a look and it's the way it is right now it's very impressive a very common
problem in most businesses is finding clients but that seems to be your least biggest problem so that's very good for you yeah while we're on the marketing topic I would like to ask you since you're not not using big platforms like Facebook ads Instagram you're not very big on social medas right you don't have a lot of social presence how would you set your business apart in the market what unique value do you offer to customers that that way they stay with you and also spread your phone number do you have any techniques or some
magic tricks that you would share most businesses if it comes to kitchen cabinets especially it's about the companies who already bought the big amount of pre-made cabinets they just laid in the boxes in a warehouse and once the client decide to have a new kitchen they're just telling you make us some drivings by yourself show it to us we're going to try to match the cabinet size that we have and we going to provide it to you but this kind of business is always limited because you cannot have that big storage to have more than
five colors of options you always have limited sizes and abilities once you run out of some of the size of the cabinets you have to tell them oh we don't have that size we cannot make right now this you have to wait when we're going to receive a new container with a new stuff in my cases I do custom whenever the client wants I can make it happen with the custom C uh projects I'm working with the companies that cut for me the sizes and I can do any kind of cabinets any kind of work
whenever you're going to find on internet pictures you can just show it to me and I will for sure find a way to repeat it and the main which is also important for me is the quality as a beginner I stopped making my own production wasn't that good quality I knew that it's not that quality that I want to work with because the the company that I work at with who cuts for me materials with those machines you can see that the quality is different they can manage the cutting the process much easier and faster
for each order that's what I think makes my company different from others so what sets you apart is that a quality of course and two is that you offer more options than other companies not just two three four five but basically anything they want you can make it happen correct yes yes interesting nice that's good that's really awesome to last question to conclude could you share the specific success story or accomplishment that you're particularly proud of in your business Journey after I worked one year as as my own business things got bad me and my
brother we were thinking to close the business to shut down hold the process and do our own stuff I'm going to go to some regular work or again as a sale guy when we was about to give up I met the guy who talked to me who have more than 20 years experience in that business he showed me his work his business how he's doing how he managing it once he talked to me he actually came to my office he was asking me questions about two or three hours just about how I'm doing my business
after he listened me for all that time he told me for 15 minutes what I should do and what I should change it's basically saved my business because after that I started doing how he suggested me and things got up from the knees basically reive a second chance to continue my business the things got better I was getting more work I was making the work easier for me and for other guys to work with me everything is changed it's affected for sure it's affected the salaries it's affected the amount of money flow that was coming
through our business I will say the main thing is proud that I didn't stop just because of thinking that okay if it's not working as I do then it's not working it's better sometimes to listen others who want to suggest you the ideas or the solutions and do not make your Prime to be over you it's better sometimes to listen for other suggestions for people who know about this who want to give you the best and you always have to think and try even if you don't see how to make it you just have to
try and work it I actually have one more question what is what advice would you give to Young students young adults teenagers what would you suggest for them what is your biggest advice for starting a business or for working or for education I will say my advice for today is today is your youngest day so don't scare to start right now even if you don't have the full idea because when you're thinking to start something you always not having the idea fully formed it's only the part that you can see and once you start you're
going to see the rest so my suggestion is just start just do it once you start it you will see Next Step based on what you're going to do so just don't scare that you may lose or it's not going to work as you are thinking of course it's not going to work as you are thinking if you cannot see the future and it's better if you try and if you really try your heart the best to give all your effort I believe every who work hard they will succeed sooner or later that is really
