We will learn how you can use the advertising tab professionally. So in these 5 parts, we will completely cover Google Analytics.
Today's video is the first part in which we will learn how to set up Google Analytics properly on website through Google Tag Manager. The story of Google Analytics starts not from its dashboard but from your website. Whenever a visitor comes to your website, whether it is through social media or Google organic as soon as he visits your website, a JavaScript code is fired inside your website.
And it tells Google Analytics that a visitor has come to your website. So Google Analytics does 3 things on our website. Number 1 is data collection.
Number 2 is storing data. And number 3 is visualizing data, meaning showing a report. So Google Analytics is not a single tool, but a 3-in-1 tool.
It collects data from your website, stores it, and then visualizes and shows it to you in beautiful So the story of such a good tool starts from your website, not from this dashboard. First, we have to link Google Analytics to our website. We have to give access so that whenever there is any traffic on your website, it is visible in your It should not be visible in any other dashboard where the data is not stored.
Basically, to connect Google Analytics to your website, you have to paste a code in the pages of website. Now, if your website is custom coded, you will have to talk to your developer. And you can paste this code in all your pages.
If your website is based on WordPress or CMS, you can use any of the free available plugins to link Analytics to your website. But we are not going to use any of these methods. Because the cleanest, easiest, and most efficient way to link Google Analytics to your website is Tag Manager.
So in this comprehensive video of Google Analytics, we will not go to the Google Analytics or your website. Instead, we will go to Google Tag Manager, from where we will start this video. So first, let's go to Google Tag Manager.
From there, we will learn how to set up Google Analytics. So we have come to Google Tag Manager. And here you can see a lot of accounts and containers.
We will not go into the details of Google Tag Manager. But we will link Google Analytics to our demo website from scratch. So first, we will create a new Google Tag Manager account.
And here, I will quickly set up the account. I will select the country. And then I have to give the name of the container.
It is not necessary that the name of your website should be the same. Here, I will select the web because we are going to add it to our website. And then we will click on the Create button.
Here, we will click on Terms and Conditions Acceptance. And then Yes. And then it will automatically create a workspace for us.
So we have created an account. We have created a container. And a workspace will come as a default.
Now, as soon as you set up the Google Tag Manager account, the first thing you see is Google Tag own code. To connect Google Tag Manager to your website, you will have to paste Google Tag Manager's code in head and body. This is the head code, which you can see at the top.
And this is your body code. So, this head tag, you have to paste it in the head tag of your web page first. And this body tag, you have to paste it in the body tag of your web page first.
Now, this process has to be done for every web page on a custom-coded website. So, you will provide this code to your developer and tell them that I want this head code at the of my web page and the body code at the top. But if you are making a WordPress website or if you are using any type of CMS, then you don't need entire code.
Here, we click on OK. There is no need to worry. You can access this code anytime.
You can see the GTM ID in your container. Whenever you click on this, this window will automatically appear. Now, we only need this GTM and after this, we can see the GTM ID.
We only need to copy this. Let's right-click and copy it. Now, in most of the CMSs, we only need this code because for every CMS, there is a free plugin of Tag Manager where you basically only need to give this GTM ID and the rest of the code is generated and added.
As I said, if it is a custom-coded website, then you will provide these two codes to your developer they will easily paste this code. Right? Now, some people may have a question in their mind that if have to paste the code, then why don't we just paste the code of Google Analytics?
The reason is that whenever you want to track any action or any marketing funnel on your website, you will have to set up Google Tag Manager. So, the code of Google Analytics cannot set up Google Tag Manager. But after adding the code of Google Tag Manager, you can set up Google Analytics, you can set up you can even set up Google Ads.
So, if you paste the code of Google Tag Manager at once, it saves you a lot of work and only the of Google Tag Manager helps you connect all the other tools. Except Google Search Console. So, you can use any method for Google Search Console, but you have to connect Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Pixel and everything with Google Tag Manager.
So, we will go back to our website and here we will not install the Google Site Kit plugin. We will go to Plugin and then Add New. I am doing this demo, again, as I said, I am doing this demo on the WordPress website, but if your is on Shopify, on ClickFunnels, on any tool or on a custom-coded website, then you have to use this or this ID and you have to use one of the two and it will be set up.
I will click on OK and I will come to the Plugin window and the plugin I am going to use here is Okay, we will use this plugin, we will not use Google Site Kit. As I promised, Google Site Kit is a plugin which can drag down your website a little bit, it doesn't make a lot of difference, but if you want to do your website's performance 100% and where there is a difference of Tola there, GTM4WP gives you a lot of options and it has a very low footprint. So, here I will install this GTM4WP plugin.
So, GTM4WP is installed here, we will click on the Settings button and here you just have to paste Google Tag Manager ID. We already have the ID, we have pasted it here and then after this, click on the Save Changes So, we will also create a new account on Google Analytics so that you can see how to do this from scratch. So, I will go to Admin and I will create a new account here, Create Account.
So, as you can see all the reports are also very good. Here, you will click on the Next button. There is no option for Advance, you get an option for UAProperties, that's why I left it because are dead now.
Now, here you can set all these options according to your choice. This is Art & Entertainment for me, Small, Next. And, then here you have to select the option which you want to use with your website, if you select Baseline report, then you won't be able to tick all the other options.
and click on the create button you never know what options you are going to use in the future why it's better to check all of them beforehand you should prepare yourself here we will select the name I also accept I accept I have to accept what was the option I have now here you can see the options web or android app or sometimes you can't see it, it doesn't matter you will click on skip for now and then after this we continue to home now as soon as we come to home you can see this red bar because we haven't set up stream yet google analytics by default didn't give any option on that window but anyway we will on this red button and we will come to the stream setup window now here you can see this option and good. Let's click on the web. And here we have to enter the URL of our website.
Right. Here we will click and enter ecom. clicklocal.
in Right. It's a dummy website. Here we give the name of the stream.
ga-tutorial-site Okay. Now here the option of enhanced measurement is already on. And when we use Google Tag Manager more heavily with our website or do a very advanced setup.
So as I have told many times in the course that we turn off all these options. And we let Google Tag Manager do all this work. But right now this is for GA only.
So we will leave all these options on. There is no need to click the save button. It is already saved.
And here we will click on the create stream button. Now here our stream has been created. Right.
Good. But the stream that has been created is only created in the Google Analytics account. This account has nothing to do with our website.
We are not going to paste this code anywhere. In fact, what we will do is we will go to Google Tag Manager and set up Google Tag Manager with Google Analytics account. So Google Tag Manager is already connected with our website.
We will connect Google Tag Manager with Google Analytics. So our website will automatically connect with Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager. So we will close this install instruction window here.
We don't need it at all. We just have to use this measurement ID. Right.
This measurement ID G- and the number characters that come after this. This measurement ID connects your Google Analytics with Google Tag Manager. So here we will copy it after pressing this button.
And then we come to Google Tag Manager. Now your account is already created in Google Tag Manager. Here we have to create the first tag.
What tag do we have to create? Here we will click on the tag. How to create a tag?
Here we clicked on the tags button. And this is a completely fresh account. Your account will also look the same if you have not used Google Tag Manager yet.
There is no need to be afraid. Just click on the new button. And here we give the name GA Setup.
Okay. And then after this, we will click on tab configuration. We will click on Google Analytics.
And we will click on Google Tag. Okay. No problem so far.
Now here is the tag ID field. Here we have to add the Google Analytics measurement ID. The tag ID word in Google Tag Manager is used for different IDs.
So when we are going to connect with Google Analytics, the measurement ID works as a tag ID for Tag Manager. So here we have already copied the measurement ID by clicking on this button. And we will come here and then paste it.
Okay. As soon as we paste, our work is done from here. Here you will see a lot of settings.
Configuration, shared event, advanced settings. We will not touch them now. Let's come down here to Triggering.
Click on Triggering and select All Pages. As soon as you select All Pages, then what will happen is that on all the pages, this account, this Tag Manager account, on all the pages of the website connected to it, this Google Tag Manager tag be fired. And what is this tag?
It is the measurement ID of Google Analytics. So the measurement ID of Google Analytics automatically connects with every page of your website. As soon as we click on this save button.
Right. It is saved. Done.
So in this way, we have connected Google Analytics with Google Tag Manager. And because Google Tag Manager is already connected with our website, so indirectly, we have also our website with Google Analytics. But I am saying this.
Let's test it first. And how will we test? We will test it from within Google Tag Manager.
Now here you can see that I have set up this tag. But I have not published it yet. Here you can see two buttons.
Preview. Right now we will test using the Preview button. Whether Google Analytics is actually connected with our website or not.
But if you leave it on this process, then it will be incomplete. Because we have to click on this Submit button and publish this change. But before that, we will check first.
So here we will click on the Preview button. And a new window will open. In this new window, you will have to paste the URL of your website as it is.
If for some reason you cannot see this URL here. By the way, in most of the cases, the URL of your website is already connected here. Now if you are using Google Tag Manager for the first time, then you may have a small issue.
Which is the installation of Google Tag Assistance Chrome extension. If it is not installed on your browser, then you will see a small installation button here. You will have to install this extension.
This is our extension. Tag Assistant Companion. You have to install this.
Let me go to its window and show you. So this is the Chrome extension that you will have to install on your browser. To follow this whole process.
And this extension will be useful to you from time to time. That's why you can install it on your browser and keep it forever. You will get the link of this Chrome extension in the description of this video.
So let me close this window for now. Because it is already installed in my browser. Here we will click on the Connect button.
And another window will open. In which you will see the URL of your website. And along with that, question mark, GTM underscore debug equals to.
And there will be an ID. Which is the ID of this session. So here we have opened this website.
And after that we come to Google Analytics. And here you will see that the page we have just visited. It should pop up here in a while.
Because we have already visited this page. Right. It will be visible here in a while.
Sometimes it can take time. Because the whole process is live. But because we have just set up the property.
So it takes a little time. But it will be visible now. The tag has been fired here.
Because if we go to this page. So in the list of tags fired. Here our GA setup tag is fired.
It is visible. But here Google Analytics is taking a little time. Yeah.
Here you can see. 62805. This is the clock.
Here in this system. Right now. And you can see this page view here.
So because we have opened our website through Google Tag Manager. And Google Analytics is already showing us that view. Here once we refresh the page.
Or go to any other page. So the URL of that page is here. Shop URL.
On which I have also visited. You can see this on the Tag Assistant window of Google Tag Manager. And you will see the same view here too.
Google Analytics will also show this page view now. So here you can see. A new page view.
Again Google Analytics has registered. And all these things are working properly. So we have successfully tested.
That our website is connected with Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager. Or not. So now it's time to publish this change.
To publish this change. We close all these windows. Leaving Google Analytics.
And here we will click on the Submit button. And here we name this version. Basically this is the way Google Tag Manager works.
In which whenever you publish changes. It checks a sort of history, a version. So here we can write.
GA Setup. And then after this. We will click on the Publish button.
And now. Google Analytics is connected with your website. Successfully.
So you have not installed a long plugin like Google Site Kit. And you have connected Google Analytics to your website only through Google Tag Manager. What is the benefit of this?
Now you are using this Google Tag Manager account. You don't have to paste any other code on your website. You can only paste the code of your Google Ads in Google Tag Manager.
You can paste the code of Hotjar. You can paste the tag of Microsoft Clarity. You can even paste the code of Google AdSense.
You don't have to add any other JavaScript to your website. All the tracking. All the coding.
Everything can be done through your Google Tag Manager. So this was the first part. In the next part, we will see.
A high-level overview of Google Analytics. What are all the options? How to use them?
How to optimize them properly? What are the events? What is the conversion?
