I do I'm Karen Wilner psychologist and body therapist and they work with bodies and I want to talk to you about the body and what you need to know about it first of all it's important to realize that bodies are plastic that means they change our body is one way and if we do the proper work it can become another way and that's important because if our body stuck in a format that leads to destructive and on healthy behaviors by simply doing the exercises and methods to change it our behavior can become the desirable behavior
we would like to have that is exactly what we want their lives and also it's the behavior that is more powerful to other people so I just want to start today by talking about yes the body's plastic how do we get our shape well first of all there's genetics and we all know that genetics has a format we don't we don't have much ability to change certain things like the color of our eyes or the height or certain things that you know are more familiar in dimension that we get and they even show that aspects
of our personality can be genetic as well on the other hand genetics is only one thing we're also formed where what they call nurturing that means what happens to us in life from very early when we're still in the womb so when we're born to the first few years of life those life experiences can affect our body if I'm around parents that always yell I'm gonna feel fear my shoulders may raise like this if I don't get enough food real food or even love I might just kind of shrink in in hopelessness if I'm burdened
I may be carrying big burdens on my shoulders so nurturing the things that we don't get will affect how our bodies look but again I wanted to be clear that that nurturing if my shoulders are like this that's not genetics I can change that if I'm back like this I can change that so there's so much about ourselves that seem like they're frozen that people think this is just who I am and that's not true so two things genetics and nurturing the third thing is what we call modeling when you are around people that are
significant others to you people who have meaning in your life you may take on their body posture so for example if your mother stood a certain way with maybe one hip higher than the other you may unconsciously be mirroring that stance which can affect you and actually give you back aches or whatever on this other hand if you have people you detest you don't want to be anywhere around that person I don't like that person you may actually model that behavior as well so it's very interesting with modeling we pick people we like and people
we despise but our bodies take on those shapes but after a small bit of body work we can return to our natural organic shape you have to be conscious of this stuff and work on it and then the fourth thing I want to say is about energy energy can shape the body energy in itself is a neutral force not good not bad but the beliefs and the attitudes we have about energy and shape the energy so I feel good about myself my energy is going to be very positive I'm gonna give up a positive confident
aura if I have negative thoughts all day if I say this is a scary world people can't be trusted I know people are out to get me that is going to shape my energy in a different kind of way so those are four things right there that impact our shape and my role as a body therapist by the communicator trainer and teacher is to help you learn the methods and techniques to reshape your body and help other people reshape there's not so you will look more beautiful or handsome that probably will happen but so that
your behavior and your personality will be the best that it can be thank you and have a good day
