is this your first time dining with us yes good well welcome in hi I'm Janessa and this is the day in the life of a server I have my camera crew here with me come on come follow us I really like serving people feels really good to take care of people to know that they had a great experience all right here we go I'm a server here at q1227 what I do is I serve all the guests I make sure that they have everything they need beverages food silverware napkins and I make sure that they
have the best experience they could possibly have so as lead server it's my job to stay on top of everything and make sure that everything is stocked all night long so we can better serve the guests so some of my opening procedures that I do are rollups which are making sure that these are taken care of there's a fork and knife in each one placed on each table make sure all the plates are stocked for us to use for our shift you got to make sure all the tables are also aligned just right when I
was younger about 18 is when I first wanted to work in a restaurant and I got into the industry and I really liked it welcome our indeed team with us today what we only have four large parties the largest being a seven top so it should be pretty easy squeezy today it's going to be a great day today we're going to do it right 1 2 3 and let have a great day all right it's 4:58 the guests are about to walk in in 2 minutes and then it's go time all right we have this
lovely table here for you there's a lot of perks when it comes to being a server there can be some cons too sometimes you can have an Irate guest maybe they had a bad day some people you just can't please all the time but that's what makes it challenging for us and that's what we enjoy and usually with some good food and good Hospitality does a trick some other challenges in the industry is a lot of people nowadays are doing doing takeout and so it can get a little frustrating sometimes we're not as busy as
we would hope to be I work nights and it does take me away from my family it takes me away from my children it's not easy and it does take commitment here you are I have these lobster bites here for you awesome there you are you're welcome number one item I hope they enjoy it what really helps me get through my day is my crew I absolutely love the people that I work with they make me laugh we make each other laugh we have a good time all right it's a busy night we're going I
have a few tables so far and probably have more later the number one skill you need to have for a server is Hospitality that's key here you really have to have people skills you really need to have the humanitarianism that's required it takes a lot of patience you have to take care of each individual person and everybody is different you never know who's going to be sitting there at that table and it's your job to make sure that each table has the same experience if you want to be a server you can't just start as
one you have to work your way up to being one usually people start out at being a Hostess or being a buser because it really takes a lot to be a server it doesn't just end there being a server especially as a lead it actually can help you work up to being in management good job tonight everybody love you good night by next I just got home and everything went smoothly tonight all the guests were happy especially those who are celebrating something like a birthday anniversary it really does feel good to make their night thanks
