Neptune's Return 2009 - The Astrology of Neptune

e [Music] Neptune was the Roman god of the sea the Divine ruler of the vast boundless watery realm that has conveyed men to inspired Voyages of Discovery as well as lured them to expire in its stormy depths this was the name given to the new planet discovered in 1846 glowing faintly amongst the stars of the tropical zodiac sign Aquarius moving 30 times further from the Sun than Earth and only visible with a telescope Neptune's orbit is of such length that it is only now in the Years 2009 and 2010 completing its first orbital Revolution since

it was discovered Neptune is itself orbited by many moons bearing names of some classical Maritime deities Proteus The Shape Shifter Triton the merman messenger of the deep and nared the scy children of Neptune Neptune was the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Poseidon and his tridon forms a symbol or glyph that is widely used to represent the planet consisting of a cross surmounted by a cresant the glyph symbolizes the soul arising from and transcending the material world [Music] almost like a premonition of what was to come some 230 years in the future Neptune was actually

first cited by the Tuscan astronomer Galileo in 1612 when he was making observations of Jupiter with his telescope but being stationary in the sky as viewed from Earth he mistook it for a fixed star in the decades following following the discovery of the new planet Uranus which was first cited in 1781 by William herel mathematicians and astronomers recognized that the motion of Uranus was being perturbed by something else something as yet unseen most likely an eighth planet Frenchman John laier calculated the position of this putative body and sent his calculations to German astronomer Johan gotfried

G who is working at the Berlin Observatory with the help of his assistant G pointed his telescope at laria's estimated position and spotted the dim and distant planet not far from Saturn with which it was in conjunction at that time observations of the correlations between the cycles of the heavenly bodies and events in the world date back 4,000 years to the civilizations of Mesopotamia rather than the examination of an individual horoscope mundane astrology examines changes in politics the arts and culture and how the major turning points in history are reflected in Planetary Cycles we can

gain further understanding of the symbolic meaning of Neptune by reflecting on the nature of historic events occurring at the time of its Discovery we were already given a clue to its meaning because it was discovered in conjunction with Saturn Saturn has for Millennia symbolized limits the Sorrows of life's hardships and the finitude of reality around the time of Neptune's Discovery conjunct Saturn there seemed to be a widespread yearning to transcend such hard restrictions of Earthly existence as well as a serious desire to carefully study and Define the seemingly mysterious and chaotic ramifications of natural processes

of industrial and organic [Music] chemistry all of the modern Plastics that we use for practically every aspect of our daily lives derived from the organic chemical industry and at its base oil most of the drugs used in modern Orthodox medicine developed from the same source and the pharmaceutical industry which manufactures these chemicals has become dominant in the discourse of healthcare as a [Music] result the Saturn Neptune cycle is an interesting one because Neptune was actually discovered officially anyway uh when it was in conjunction with Saturn on September 23 1846 and Saturn's all about control and

Saturn's the planet really that identifies at least in the gawan studies with scientists and researchers well that's pretty appropriate then that it would be the only planet discovered or the first planet discovered through mathematical means when you look at Saturn though um as a form of say State control and you mix it with Neptune which has a social idealism about it you get Workers parties so it wasn't long after this discovery of Neptune that the Communist manifest uh became the new wave of thought that swept European politics and eventually uh this did manifest in the

1917 Bolshevik Revolution of course before that we had labor parties and and workers parties throughout representation in Western Government but the 1917 uh Revolution fell upon a conjunction and the successive conjunctions after that marked important turning points in the cycle uh for example the next conjunction in the early 50s was really the split between east and west and the Cold War at its fullest and uh the division for example uh of of Korea or the Korean war that was fought after that pitting um America against Russia it was also the death of Stalin and the

next conjunction in 1989 well we had the rise of Mel gorbachov and actually the fall of the Soviet Union and also the Eastern block countries so um so these Saturn Neptune conjunctions Mark pivotal turning points in the development of uh politics particularly in Russia and and connected with the communist movement taking a step back and looking at history over the longer term Neptune's relationship with the dwarf planet Pluto discovered in 1930 at the dawn of the nuclear age May describe something about the power Mythos of the age the prevailing forces of collective will and the

larger cultural and political shifts which act as a backdrop to entire historical eras now the Neptune Pluto Cycle Works over 492 years which is a hell of a long while so what we're really looking at here is a cycle of dynasties and that's what it has been I mean if we look at the Neptune Pluto cycle conjunction going back to 25560 BC what happens is we get the building of the Great Pyramid of kops which is still around around today but we could look at the conjunction point of say the middle of the 6th Century

BC around 570 576 BC and what we see there of course is the first Persian Empire the aramed Empire which covered the whole of the Middle East and at the opposition point of that Neptune Pluto cycle we had Alexander the Great coming and taking over the Middle East for himself you know the cycle sometimes fits remarkably with uh with countries Korea is one we can look at the Goro Kingdom which went for about 500 years from the 900 uh conjunction through to the 13 1390s I think it was and then overtaking them was the hosan

Dynasty and they went from the late 1390s and through to the 1890s so 1897 I think they finished up so that was a remarkable dovetail with the Neptune Pluto cycle and of course the Michi uh the who really bankrolled the Renaissance they actually started their Bank in 1397 right around the conjunction point so Neptune Pluto look at dynasties and for the last one I mean really the 1890s is the the peak of the British Empire and what they're doing here is handing over to the new superpower which is going to be the US and the

US rose up on certain elements one which was the Motorcar and this is typical uh Neptune Pluto when you think of Neptune being the gasoline and PLO being the mass production of the motor vehicle we might also look at the motion picture industry Edison's kinoscope that was patented around 1893 sometime in 1893 and that enabled the us to move their culture uh right throughout the world in a very very uh neptunian manner Neptune's movements in relationships with other planets seem to correspond to our conceptions of the ineffable the mysterious and magical and to phenomena which

seem to shift seamlessly from one form to another like Proteus the shape-shifting sea creature of antiquity Perhaps it is in the creative Fashions of the times that such morphing of structure is most easily appreciated when Neptune was in Leo the playful costumes of the flapper years centered attention on the projection of personality and individual flare in Virgo fashion took a more restrained cooler appearance as values of utility and practicality added a uniformity to appearances in Libra gender roles became more pronounced with long wide dresses narrow waists and emphasized busts in vot in Scorpio minis skirts

and skimpier costumes brought a more overt and bold sexual tone to outlet [Music] appearances in Sagittarius fashion was noted for its extremes of laress as well as bright vivid [Music] colors in Capricorn there was a fashion for power dressing with emphasized shoulder pads and a sober taste for clean and tidy lines from the late 1990s with Neptune in Aquarius fashion became more cool and Casual as social networking wired us to technology and the internet in 2011 Neptune moves into Pisces when fashion will reflect the Wild and mysterious but also the mystical and spiritual sides of

Neptune as the world around us reshapes itself it is such complex chaotic systems as the whims of fashion the extemporization of musical compositions the development of Storms and the evolution of species that are represented by Neptune systems whose complexity is beyond our capacity to calculate but which call for our soul to recognize and resonate with the attempt to render such intricate visions of higher orders of complexity into forms perceptible to the human senses has been the preoccupation of artists and musicians since ancient [Music] times we have the Romantic um cultural movement in the late 19th

century uh where the mountain cags and you you see I remember one particular painting of The Bard um this this man with a wild long beard like Moses in the rocks and the mountain peaks with lakes and nature and it's it's as if the creative human was was absorbing something from the cosmos or the natural world and usually a very dominant um strong natural world in touch with the Heights or the depths and somehow finding that middle place which is which is what these creation myths are talking about this this separation in the in the

original um Massa confusion of Heaven and Earth and somehow this longing for humans to bridge that and uh the the art of the Romantic Period often is you know vagari and very loud and passionate and Elemental [Music] [Music] in psychological terms when Neptune was being discovered and coming to human consciousness um we have the use of hypnosis starting as a way of healing before that in medicine the healing dream in in very ancient um healing rights um the dream the symbols that that formed out of the mids of the unconscious or the depths of the

the the SE of the unconscious gave signposts to the way a healing could unfold for a particular individual and when we work as therapists or astrologers with the neptunian somehow um we don't have linear definition and answers just like in an impressionist painting like um Monet's Waterlily series you get patches of color not defined lines that are leading from point A to point B but the eye and the patterns in the brain can make make sense and it's a wonderful moving mystery and light is uh reflecting it's romantic it's it's undefined and that's what good

depth psychology is about the spirit of Neptune certainly conjures IM Imes of a world beyond our familiar everyday experience the rise of psychology and psychiatry in the mid 19th century seem to promise a more methodical way to treat the maladies of mind and soul perhaps they offered another perspective on the age-old Dilemma of Human Experience the polarity of reason and feeling perhaps they were the most recent attempts to unite the objective rational conscious realm and the subjective world of unconscious passions and motives the chaos of the irrational so if we if we can go back

in time and think about being on a jury of people to decide who is actually going to be the representative of our new Western Civilization will it be Athena who offers the people of Athens um the the great Olive Tree which she offers us a symbol of cultivation sophistication she is the goddess of the City she's the goddess of what we're able to Bridal passions or are we going to choose um Poseidon who is who is this god of the sea the stormy stormy god of the sea who's wild sometimes and rageful but as we

said also has has the beautiful narad all part of his domain and so I think in in terms of evolution in terms of human evolution we always are in this particular position of where we're supposed to decide are we going to take the rational side or are we going to take the more quote irrational side which are represented very much in myth by Athena and posidon and of course the people of Athens choose Athena because what Poseidon has offered them of course is water and water is everywhere in Greece um perhaps today we might reconsider

uh water isn't so much everywhere so I think pides mythology in in Greece tells us very much about the this continual battle between the formless Limitless um aetheric um Oceanic sides of the human nature and the more rational literal um perhaps even more conscious contrived sides of the human mind returning to 25° of Aquarius in 2009 and 2010 Neptune forms a conjunction with Jupiter and the centor Chiron and continues its conjunction with Chiron into 2010 Jupiter has long been associated with the principle of expansion and growth of progress and opportunity and with things that preserve

and enrich life Chiron the half man half beast wounded healer of of Greek myth and Mentor of Heroes is a name given to a planetoid discovered between the orbits of Jupiter and Uranus in 1977 it is popularly associated with the experience of rejection because of deformity and the spiritual and therapeutic Focus that results from such experience it seems strangely fitting that Humanity's first conscious experience of the complete orbital revolution of Neptune is occurring now at a time of Dawning recognition of how the common fluid Realms of our planet the fresh water the oceans and the

atmosphere have become spoiled corrupted by malignant unbalanced growth with no regard for the supportive Matrix of the environment we are witnessing chaos RIT large the turmoil of interconnected systems collapsing and with this the dawning awareness of our own conscious role in regulating the complex feedback loops which Define our ecological and economic existence Neptune's placement at this time in Aquarius the sign of the commons and Collective suggests that we are all part of the problem but we must also be as individuals part of the solution Neptune is representative of our knowledge of chaos of dreamlike irrational

experiences of tumultuous overwhelming currents and the most subtle experiences of unity with the [Music] universe more than at any time in human history we are now faced with the choice whether to sink or swim to insist on seeing our universe as a dead sea of Randomness or to recognize the subtle yet powerful fields of energy which permeate all of SpaceTime and shape our very own conscious Minds a healthier relationship with the Transcendent realm may be just what we need to face the coming challenges of our world My Hope for for the full cycle returning now

of Neptune would be that we have learned that there is a there is a important aspect of the human nature that must participate with something Beyond not to be afraid of it not to be scared of it not to try to control it not to try to direct it or limit it but to participate with it uh much as they did in the ancient world to participate with with all the mysteries of life so what do I I don't necessarily think about about anything as far as what the return might be but I do hope

uh for a return to participation Mystique with um something greater as we do in astrology we participate with the cosmos um that's the one thing all astrologers believe in and how we believe in it doesn't matter but we do believe that we participate with something much larger than who we are and that's reflected in the heavens um our Cosmic map in 2011 Neptune moves into Pisces the sign of the fishes and the last sign of the zodiac like fish swimming in the vast Oceanic Waters we are the subjects of forces and influences so pervasive of

our everyday lived experience that we are almost completely unaware of them perhaps Neptune's Transit through Pisces May intimate that with an attitude of Greater Attunement openness and sensitivity to the environmental Matrix in which we are embedded it will be possible to detect the faint but insistent signals of a new reality from which we may distill a greater truth to guide us [Music] to know Neptune is to dance with its ever shifting currents and to open ourselves to the reality of our transpersonal and Universal consciousness [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] for [Music] [Music]
