so recently a company based in China known for its expertise in embodied Ai and robotic systems unveiled this robot and this robot has almost everyone freaking out on social media it's been going viral on Twitter orx if you want to call it that and it's been going viral on Reddit YouTube and Tik Tok now the reason that this robot is actually going viral is because I think this Taps into one of human's greatest fears and that's of course the robot upright ing now of course when we look at what this robot is able to do
it marks the first time that we're able to see a robot which is a quadrip that's able to Traverse down a 50in gradient slope or 50° gradient slope and do it with a remarkable degree of stability now of course this is something that is great considering the fact that this is the kind of technology that we can see is moving in the right direction and when I say that I mean the fact that look technology is advancing you know overall that is technically a good thing but I think what most people are concerned about is
the fact that technology is advancing but in certain areas where technology might be advancing for good some people may argue that this technology could be used for other purposes and I think with this kind of robot I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out what people are worried of most people are worried of the consequences when this kind of Technology gets to the point where it can be good enough so that it is you know used in Warfare and this kind of brings about that of course fear where you could have a
swarm of these kinds of robots that are going to be essentially running around and doing a ridiculous level of things now I do think that that is because of this TV show which was called Metalhead this was from Netflix's hit show Black Mirror and if you've ever watch this episode you'll know exactly what I'm referring to but if you don't there was basically an episode where they had this robot that was very much like the one that you just saw on screen a minute ago and this robot was able to move quickly it was able
to chase you down and as you can see on screen it was literally able to chase anyone with a remarkable level of Relentless Pursuit which definitely instilled fear into many of the users about how the future of robot is going to be and this was something at the time that we didn't really tend to visualize because when we looked at this kind of robot it seemed far too futuristic but now that we look at what we're seeing today we can see that these robots are here and they are very very good I mean often times
the craziness and I think the reason that this example is most shocking is because when we usually see robotics demos like this one we usually see robotics Demos in those nice factory settings in clean white white pristine environments and the problem is is that when we actually take a look at this robot right here it's in arguably the roughest and most rugged environment leading us to realize the high degree of proficiency that these robots do have so this is something that is clearly going to be ingrained in our minds for us to truly understand how
capable this is because it's one thing to test those robots in a laboratory environment that you've tested and you know you've softened all the edges but if you put a robot into the natural physical world like they've done here and it's able to easily Traverse the terrain without any kind of problems through whatever it's been able to do I think I think it's probably done that through reinforcement learning but this just you know essentially shows us the kind of robots that could be built in the future now the craziest thing about all of this even
though there's TV shows like metal head that show us these kinds of robots that are pretty crazy and a pretty you know quite scary in the fact that you know maybe the government sends out 10 of these robots if you forget to pay your taxes but the thing about this is the fact that this technology is not only real in this sense right here that you're seeing on screen but it's also real in the sense that we've also seen that companies and Military organizations have developed certain versions of these robots they're essentially real military versions
so right here you can see a version that has some kind of you know gun strapped to the back it doesn't really look like a gun it seems like some sort of Cannon but I wouldn't imagine that it is out of the question that you could potentially have this gun on the cannon and then just like we see in Metalhead here you could have something like this that simply runs through a building and manages to disperse of any combatants that it finds inside this is something that is of course very very worrying for the person
who is worried about the future of AI and Robotics and we know that the future of warfare is already changing we've seen what drones have done in the Ukraine and Russia War so it wouldn't be surprising if we got these you know four-legged killer robots that are able to seek out enemies in certain buildings where humans don't want to Traverse to because if the robot is able to have its Wheels to be able to go up and down you know areas like this you know humans are no longer safe when it comes to stairs or
even difficult you know terrains because you could literally send a robot through the forest to track you know a bunch of soldiers down um and we would literally be living in a Black Mirror episode the only thing that I think is that I only wonder which company is going to be getting to this first because you saw there it was able to jump up to rocks that were you know 80 cm and the crazy thing about this is that it is going to get even better in the future now of course all of this is
absolutely incredible and I mean incredible I mean incredible in a bad way but that's not the only thing that this company is creating they're also creating their own humanoid robots which are quite similar to their counterparts in the sense that these robots are also able to Traverse the environment in a way that is remarkably humanlike and natural now I will say that this is not as nearly as developed as the other robot but surprisingly it is able to Traverse these kind of environment with a remarkable degree of consistency and you can see right here it
drops off a ledge and it doesn't tumble or fall over and I know if I push some of my friends off that ledge I'm pretty sure they'd be face flat on the ground so this is the kind of thing where I think the reason that this kind of project is getting not backlash but real Intrigue and fear is because these kinds of robots are of course going to be a part of the future and on one side yes I think it's good that you know humans are out of the work force in terms of the
army because I don't think anyone wants to end up as Cannon for for some politician whose rules and regulations you don't even believe in but I think at the same time it is also going to be quite scary if we do get a future where these kinds of robots are I guess you could say the enforcement agents that are essentially mercilessly hunting people down or en forcing the government Draconian rule so I think overall this is something that is open for discussion I know I've seen a lot of discussions online I think this conversation is
something to be had because I do think that with technology advancing at the rate that it is I wouldn't be surprised if some company out there manages to develop some kind of robot that is ridiculously fast and is able to chase people down but of course I do hope that with all the advanced technology that we do manage to get eventually we manage to end War because it seems like such a primitive thing to have when we have systems that are going to soon be on the level of AGI or even ASI so overall when
we do take a look at what's going here I think it's important to understand that this is of course unfortunately going to be part of the future whether or not we like it and I think the bad thing about this as well is that let's say these things are actually effective we have to understand that other countries are probably going to be using them as well unless there's some you know Universal rule where we say okay you know what we're not going to use this in war and we're not going to bring break any sort
of conventional rules because it might just be inhumane but it will be interesting to see what happens on that front of development
