hey and welcome to the name is defined young course so to start I selected my favorite tags from junk and it is called the development of personality and I just feel this is a great way to introduce his ideas and there's just something different about this one that it speaks to me somehow so do my best to explore and share these feelings and Thoughts with you and later on we're gonna pick up a few subjects that I introduced here and we will dissect them and in the end we will get back to the same individuation
process and the development of personality so without further ado for young personality is a seed that can only develop by its lowest stages throughout life there is no personality without definiteness wholeness and ripeness personality as the complete realization of our whole being is an unattainable ideal but unattainability is no argument against the ideal for ideals are only signposts never the goal so right from the beginning we can see that for Jung personality isn't something ready it is something that exists in potential and we are also born with certain personality traits qualities and tendencies that will
be manifested as we experience life so our personality feels more like a brute Diamond that will be shaped as we go through different challenges and life stages and we get to meet our personality traits and qualities by relating to certain people and certain things because essentially are a whole soul is projected so we get to meet who we truly are by relating to our projections and Jung says that everything that fascinates us contains a piece of our soul therefore is Our obligation to create a relationship to find out what this thing has I mean what
part of myself my personality is projected onto this thing onto this person this certain activity and by creating relationship with it we are able to now integrate it and leave it in a conscious way so everything that captures us in a way contains a piece of our soul and by creating relationship with these things we are kind of trying to put this puzzle together so if there are certain activity that really fascinates you like dancing music or any form of art expression you bet there is a piece of your soul just waiting to be discovered
or any philosophical system a certain religious point of view or even psychology Jung so everything that fascinates us contains a certain projection and by relating to it we are able to make it conscious and integrate in our conscious personality and here I also have to say that these projections are essentially neutral so we can either find beautiful things about ourselves projected also other people certain activities and we will also find the ugly aspects of our personality that we aren't willing to recognize so we're gonna first meet our Dark Side projected onto other people but we're
gonna explore this subject in depth later on now I'd like to make a distinction between two personality traits that we may discover and develop Within and the first one actually refers to the ones that have been repressed in a way and the way we go about them feels like we're on a scavenger hunt because these are the exact traits that couldn't be developed because of the environment will grow up maybe a traumatically fancy situation or maybe because of the parents we had or the people that were around when we were growing up and the way
we feel about these personality qualities and traits is that something is missing something isn't quite right and we need to understand what this thing is so we can film our whole again and More in harmony with ourselves so these are the exact things that because of our life experience or our personal history couldn't be a part of ourselves and we kind of lost it in the way somehow and the way we integrate this aspects is by entering a time machine so it's always a backwards movement and we will have to explore certain memories events situations
our relationship certain people maybe their parents or the people that were around when when this happened and we will have to trace it back and kind of put this puzzle together like Beats by bit so we can fully understand what part of ourselves couldn't be properly developed and when we are able to trace these things back where we gain Consciousness about it and now we are able to develop this traits in a conscious way but because they could never be properly developed they will feel like a little child within that will need to be nurtured
so it can be matured and become a part of our self so the key always lies in creating a relationship with these parts and the other kind of traits we can develop are more future oriented because we can't trace them back they are parts of our soul that wants to be developed because they exist in potential so if we try to trace them back we're gonna kill them we had to create a relationship with them in the present moment and understand to which direction they are trying to take us and the recently discovered one trait
that was asking to be developed and it is writing now if I try to trace it back it doesn't make any sense because my father wrote like a bunch of things he likes to read my sister had this whole shelf of books so I was always encouraged to read and to write and all of those things but I never had any interest in it this was never a thing for me and in the past few months this thing Captain appearing on my mind like start writing try to put your feelings and your thoughts into the
paper and try to create a relationship with it and in the beginning it was like yeah but this was never a thing for me why why is this happening but later on I answered to this calling and I started to create a relationship with it and in the beginning it sucked because this also feels like having a little child within that needs to be nurtured in order to be developed so I was trying to understand which part of my soul was in there and trying to understand what was in it for me now I have
to be honest trying to convey myself in a clear way was always something extremely difficult for me but I started writing anyway and in hindsight we know that I was trying to put a few pieces together and with the psychological knowledge I have now I was able to understand my personal experience in a more conscious way and everything gained this new life because we always find expansion in our opposite side and in things we're not really good at and and when these things appears to us we have to answer this calling and so we are
able to expand our personality even more and we are able to achieve the psychological maturity so I started posting my texts on the internet especially on Reddit and this is exactly how I was able to expand my business to other countries so again this valuable tool that helps me understand my emotions and feelings more deeply and also helps me understand my inferior function better sensation ends and feeling which which is something that I also do through music but you're gonna explore those things later on on the second part now getting back to it Jung says
that the complete realization of our whole being is an unattainable ideal but we shouldn't be looking at it as this ultimate goal but as a signpost because our personality isn't static time isn't static we can't stagnate life is always demanding us to change to develop and to go through the motions and this flow I also believe that Jung expressed himself in this way because in another text he says how life has been to regain over and over again so this means that whenever we have a certain Mastery of our life and ourselves faith will present
us some change so maybe you lost a relationship maybe you are in a new relationship or you're married and now we have kids maybe you got a promotion maybe you lost your job so we are always going through these motions and experiencing different challenges that will demand this certain growth but obviously each time we go through it we're more mature and we have more knowledge and Jung also says that the development of Personality obeys Three Laws necessity peacethis and vocation and we're gonna explore all of those as we go here so personality is an act
of high courage flung in the face of Life the absolute affirmation of all that constitutes the individual the most successful adaptation to the universal conditions of existence coupled with the greatest possible freedom for self-determination I just feel that I'm reading something epic when I read this text so this is the first Paradox junk presents that in order to expand and develop our personality we have to be well adapted to the outer world and external conditions and also to our inner world and our uniqueness and individuality so the key always lies in sustaining this paradox and
this image just came to me a lot of people believe that in order to achieve enlightenment or to unravel the sound within they had to sell everything they they own go live in a cave fast and meditate every day and they will suddenly become enlightened and here we can see that this couldn't be further from the truth and this comes from the guy that lived on this tower for a while so whenever we lose our roots in reality we kind of let the unconscious loose and we allow it to completely overtake our Consciousness and this
can be extremely dangerous because we can be absolutely engulfed by it and lose our sense of self completely and this is exactly what happens to people who become schizophrenic our ego complex completely shatters and they are engulfed by the unconscious so Jung narrates that whenever he felt he's unconscious was too strong to be dealt with you would stop everything and remind himself that he was married he had kids he was a psychotherapist and he worked for the Swiss Army so we have to be able to sustain this Paradox we have one part of our personality
there needs to be well adapted to the persona a cultural side and the conscious aspect of life and we also had to be well adapted to our inner world and our uniqueness and our individuality and when we're able to sustain this Paradox and be in harmony our individuation process can further and extroverts will have greater ease in adapting to the outer reality and to their Persona and introverts will have greater ease to adapt to their inner world but obviously we will always find expansion by relating to the other side and that's precisely why we have
to be able to sustain this Paradox but we're going to explore more of this later on as well now let's discuss the first law necessity the only thing that moves nature is causal necessity and that goes for human nature too we found necessity nothing budges the human personality list of all it is tremendously conservative not to say tarp it only acute necessity is able to Rouse it the developing personality based on Caprice no command no Insight only brute necessity it needs the motivating force of inner or outer fatalities any other development would be no better
than individualism so here we can see that the human personality has this tendency to be extremely ecstatic and avoid growth and that's precisely why we meet certain challenges on the outside so our individuation process can further and our personality can mature or we have to deal with a certain inner fatality like new roses or the self is asking us to develop a certain quality like writing as I just mentioned and obviously there are certain situations and scenarios we never asked for maybe you went through a traumatic event that wasn't her fault maybe you were born
in a shitty family and maybe you were born in certain psychological tendencies that are extremely challenging however Faith put these things before us and now it is our duty to overcome them Naruto for instance his father put this giant Beast inside him and now he can escape he has to deal with this thing however this is exactly what propels him to become a Hokage later and Harry Potter as well he had to grow up in that shitty family who didn't allow him to be who he truly was and later on when he received the letter
from Hogwarts and he started exploring more he also realized that you would have to deal with a lot of things because of his family and he had no choice he couldn't escape from it so he had to accept it and overcome the challenge to become whole he was meant to be Hercule is the same thing he was he stole him from Zeus and Hades tried to kill him so I think you got it sometimes we will have to deal with scenarios and situations that they are forced upon us and sometimes we will have to go
through certain challenges in new situations because our life situation requires it and as we go through life I believe that almost everyone maybe 98 of population will have to deal with an issue regarding money and this is always a big thing that will Propel us to become better maybe you're facing a certain challenging situation in a relationship maybe it's a new one maybe it's a node one maybe you just broke up so all of those things will require us to adapt to a certain scenario maybe you are pregnant maybe you have kids now and you
have to learn how to relate to them or maybe you want a certain job and you have to study a lot and overcome many challenges to be there so all of those things will put a certain pressure in us and this pressure is exactly what will make our personality be enhanced and expand and I was just remembering here that when I was a kid I had this Portuguese teacher and he was extremely strict and demanding and every month he would come up with a new test for us and they were extremely difficult so because of
this pressure I had to study harder for Portuguese than any other subjects but I also could learn things that were meant for an adult to know so necessity and this pressure is exactly what makes our personality move so everyone has different Tendencies and things that fascinates us and when we understand that there is this particular and unique thing we have to pursue and they like to call it our authentic path and we understand that we have to move into certain direction and be in a certain place that's most likely when we will start asking different
questions than everyone else and we will most likely experience isolation so Jung says that the words many are called but few are chosen are singularly appropriate here for the development of personality from The Germ state to full Consciousness is it once a Charisma and a curse because its first fruit is the conscious and unavailable segregation of the single individual from the undifferentiated and unconscious hurt this means isolation and there is no more comforting word for it and I can distinctly remember the first time I experienced this deep sense of isolation and I must have been
17 at the time now my family was always extremely religious and we had just moved to this new city so we started going to this church and I made some friends there I had all the Social Circle going I started playing drums at the church and I even preached a few times there however after a while a few things started to bother me a lot and I always had this thing inside me that wanted to know things in a deeper way that wanted to really dive into the Bible into the scriptures and understand everything that
was going on and this is exactly what I did so I gather all these different orders and I was studying the context and I was even translating a few words because I was really trying to understand things and I started asking extremely difficult questions and was challenging all of my beliefs and that's precisely when things went sour because I was trying to bring this knowledge and my questions into this church and they weren't prepared for it they didn't know how to answer and they didn't want to deal with me and in hindsight they know that
I was challenging their beliefs and I was touching into weak spots and the questions I was asking myself they were afraid to ask themselves because they didn't had any answers however I had these doubts and I accepted them and I was trying my best to understand everything and because I started acting in this way they simply isolated me they stopped calling me to play drums and suddenly they cut our contacts and there was alone and I have to be honest this wasn't a pleasant scenario to be in it was really tough this was precisely when
my depression aggravated I was also experiencing anxiety I was 22 kilos overweight as well so yeah you can picture that and in hindsight this was a good thing that's why isolation is a Charisma and a curse because you you will experience this horrible feelings however if I had stayed there I would never be able to develop myself and to develop my own sense of the world and reality and my Cosmo vision and my beliefs so by experiencing this isolation I was free to come up with my own answers and to experience things in a new
way so when we follow our individuality we will have to differentiate ourselves from a certain group and a certain mentality because they don't have the same path as you do and they aren't asking the same questions you are so they don't have this sense of direction you have so when we choose to go on a certain direction we also have to let go of our past self and open ourselves to experience who we are meant to be and this takes us to the second law and it is species yet the development of Personality means more
than just the fear of hatching forth monsters or of isolation it also means Fidelity to the law of One's Own being and I just love the way he expressed himself here because I truly believe that so when I read it was like yeah man it's just great to understand a belief through psychological lenses as well so for the word Fidelity I should prefer in this context the Greek word used in the New Testament yeah this word which is erroneously translated faith it really means trust trustful loyalty Fidelity to the law of One's Own being is
a trust in this law a loyal perseverance and confident hope in short narrative such as a religious man should have towards God so this is the exact sense we have when we hold on to our inner values when we have our sense of self our morality and we are faithful to it Naruto for instance he would always says that he had his ninja away so he kneel himself he knew what he wanted to accomplish and he also knew he had to stay true to it and to his path so it can now be seen how
pretentious is the Dilemma that emerges from behind her problem personality can never develop unless the individual chooses his own way consciously and with moral deliberation but a man can make immoral decision to go his own way only if he holds talway to be the best if any other way were held to be better then he would leave and develop that other personality instead of his own the other ways are conventionalities of immoral social political philosophical or religious nature the fact that the conventions always flourish in one form on another only proves that the vast majority
of mankind do not choose their own way but convention and consequently develop not themselves but a method a collective mode of Life at the cost of their own wholeness so we have a few things here the first is that we have to consciously choose our own way and with moral deliberation so our unconscious can point the right direction can give us dreams and Fantasies and aspirations however what will make things happen is our Consciousness and our adaptation to the world so this also means that we have to come up with an actual plan to express
these feelings and materialize them and make them concrete into the real life if you have the dream to become a therapist for instance how the hell are you going to do it to which university are you going do you have enough money to do it will you have to work during uh College and how many hours are you going to study daily so you can become a good therapist and you have to make any kind of deal with a certain person or your relationship so out of those things needs to be deliberated so you can
make a conscious decision and fulfill your desire in a mature way because most of the time we have certain wishes but we are not willing to pay the price to get there Naruto for instance in the beginning he was extremely childish and he would never train and then he would be extremely mad because people wouldn't recognize him even though he had never paid the price to be recognized so there comes a point where he starts training extremely hard because now he accepted his faith and he made a conscious decision to pursue it and now he's
trying to materialize his child's wishes in a more mature way and to reality and he's putting the work and now he knows he has to pay the price to become a Hokage and the same thing happens with Harry Potter as well because in the beginning he is extremely childish impulsive and he doesn't know that his actions also affect other people and there also comes a point where he constantly chooses to go his own way and accept his faith and now he's working towards it in a more mature way and putting the work and not being
so impulsive and Reckless and the same thing can happen if you want to lose weight for instance now I was extremely frustrated with the way I looked my health in general and also my conditioning I can even remember a time where I was playing uh football and I almost and I almost fainted so yeah I had to be depressed with healthy go to the gym change my lifestyle and then I was able to drop 22 kilos so from my perspective we are always paying the price in a way because if we don't follow our true
path and what we are meant to do and to become we're going to be miserable and that's the pressure pain if we don't take care of ourselves we will pay by being unhealthy and having to go to the doctor and you know is imagine all those things we will pay with our health so we always have this choice and that's why we have to take a tip look at the mirror and seriously ask ourselves if we are willing to pay the price to realize our authentic path and pieces is exactly what will keep us going
and we'll hold this together when we are facing certain challenges is this thing that will keep us together until things starts happening and now I'm just remembering the time I just had to had this absolute faith that things would work out and I know that peace just sustained me in that period because nothing nothing was making sense at the time so it was the beginning of my career as a therapist and they had just moved to another state so everything was new for me and after two and a half months or so I found this
place to work at and in the beginning was great people were nice to me I could give a few lectures and I got my first clients so for a few months everything was great until it wasn't because although there were therapies as well they would have a really weird approach to certain things and my beliefs especially Union psychology wouldn't fit in this place and to be honest I wasn't going through a good period emotionally speaking so fate put before me another challenge and suddenly I lost all of my clients at once like within a month
I lost all of my clients and I had no income and at that particular time I was working with this jungen therapist and and I had a dream telling me that I wasn't ready to do this it was like what the hell am I going to do I mean I chose this path and here's life telling me I'm not ready so I had to accept it and I knew I had to work on myself first I had to solve certain conflicts emotions feelings I feel stuff about my past a few stuff about relationships and I
had to get in harmony again and then knew I wouldn't be able to work with anyone else before I solved me and I was working at this Analyst at the time I had some money still and I worked with my dreams and every hour I had I applied into studying so for several hours a day I was reading young and reading and reading and reading trying to understand things and solve my inner conflicts and two and a half months later a first person appeared again for me to work with so what sustained me during this
period of rebuilding myself was species and I had to had so much faith because things were happening at the really slow rates so yeah many doubts and many conflicts and I had to go through a lot emotionally and psychologically but I had to pay the price to be better to be a better professional and you know to follow my authentic path I mean we can have dreams we can have certain desires but what view essentially makes things happen is when we consciously choose it and when we put in the work and when we accept I
mean the consequences as well and all of this will also lead us to the third law which is vocation oh yeah one thing I forgot to mention is that later on I ended up having a dream where I was graduating from University and Jung made an appearance but anyway let's continue here what is it in the end that induces a man to go his own way and to rise out of unconscious identity with the mass as out of swathing mist not necessity for necessity comes to many and the outtake refuge in convention not moral decision
for nine times out of ten we decide for a convention likewise what is it then that inexorably tips these skills in favor of the extraordinary and one thing we still had to explore our conventions and they can be of immoral socio-political philosophical or religious nature so the human personality has a tendency first to become Static and second to avoid responsibility because it takes a lot of effort and when we are relating to a certain system this can Shield us from having our own doubts and this is exactly what happened with the little history I told
you about me and the church most people want to stay at certain conventions because they will receive absolutely everything ready they don't have to think about anything all the answers they want are just there and most people will just settle for it because otherwise we will have to build our own set of values and craft our belief system and really come up with our own Cosmo vision and am I saying these things are bad absolutely not we can always find inspiration in them can find inspiration in certain religions in philosophy in politics we can find
inspiration in psychology as well but in the end if we really want to realize ourselves we will have to come up with our own answers and even though they might be inspired by a lot of these things they will still possess an individual quality to it because it is dependent on our personal and unique experience so okay what inexorably tips this scale is in favor of the extraordinary hmm it is what is commonly called vocation an irrational factor that Destin's a man to emancipate himself from the herd and from its well-worn paths and vocation acts
like a love God from which there is no escape the fact that many a man who gives his own way ends in Ruins means nothing to the one who has vocation he must obey his Allah as if it were a diamond whispering to him of new and wonderful paths anyone with a vocation hears the voice of the inner man he is called so vocation is this inner voice telling us to pursue a certain path and we can't escape from it because if you do something will haunt us forever and vocation are the feeling of it
is not however the prerogative of great personalities it is also appropriate to the small ones all the way down to the personalities but as the size decreases The Voice becomes more and more muffled and unconscious so this means that absolutely everyone can be called and everyone has his authentic path to pursue and realize however what really makes a difference is Having the courage to decide and pursue it and not being absorbed by conventions Jung says again creative life always stands outside convention that is why when the mere routine of life predominates in the form of
convention and tradition there is bounds to be a destructive outbreak of Creative Energy this out break is a catastrophe only when it is a mass phenomenon but never in the individual who consciously submits to these higher powers and serves them with all his strength the mechanism of convention gives people unconscious for in that state they can follow their accustomed tracks like blind Broods without the need for a conscious decision going Our Own Way always means that we are exploring an Uncharted Territory and each person have their own to become a personality is not the absolute
prerogative of the genius for a man may be a genius without being a personality insofar as every individual has the love life in burning him it is theoretically possible for any man to follow this law and so become a personality that is to achieve wholeness but what happens when we refuse this calling stand that a man is untrue to the love he's been and does not rise to personality he has failed to realize his life's meaning fortunately in her kindness and patience nature never puts the Fatal question as to the meaning of their lives into
the mouths of most people and where no one asks no will need answer and when Jung says nature he's referring to the unconscious to the self and to our unconscious personality and here Jung discusses why someone might become neurotic and this is the story of a man who was suffering from an imaginary cancer and we have to remember that Jung was a medic so he was able to tell the difference between something that was happening for organic reasons or psychological reasons so okay the Neurosis is that they defense against the objective inner activity of the
psyche or an attempt somewhat dearly paid for to escape from the inner voice and hence from the vocation for this growth is the objective activity of the psyche which independently of conscious relation is trying to speak to the conscious mind through the inner voice and lead him towards wholeness behind the neurotic perversion is considered his vocation his Destiny the growth of personality the full realization of the life will that is inborn with the individual it is The Man Without a morphachi who is the neurotic he truly has missed his vocation and never will be able
to see with Cromwell none climbed so high as he who knoweth not with her his Destiny letteth him the first thing we have to understand about new roses is that it happens when we are avoiding something and when we are not in harmony with ourself so the symptom comes in a way to get Our intention it is trying to speak to us in a way and when we give it voice we understand what we might be avoiding which decision or which direction we have to go or what we have to consider and what we had
to make conscious so our attitude towards life can change but don't worry too much about it now because we're gonna explore this subject in depth later on so okay the inner voice is the voice of a fuller life of a wider more comprehensive consciousness in fact the inner voice is a Lucifer in the strictest and most unequivocal sense of the world and it faces people with automate moral decisions without which they can never achieve full Consciousness and become personalities the highest and the lowest the best and the vast the truest and the most deceptive things
are often blended together in the inner voice in the most baffling way thus opening up in us and a piece of confusion falsehood and despair and I believe this happens precisely because when we are striving to become whole we will have to face our dark side and not only ours we will have to meet the evil and the shadow of the world as well because it's just impossible to overcome it if we do not accept it first and get touched by it to some extent and we also have to accept that we are always capable
of doing evil things as well and therefore it will be a conscious decision to craft certain values a belief system a world view and also a cosmic vision and finally the Undiscovered vein within us is a living part of the psyche classical Chinese philosophy names this interior way Tau and Likens it to a flow of water that moves irresistibly towards its goal to rest in Tau means fulfillment wholeness once this nation reached one's Mission done the beginning and and perfect realization of the meaning of existence innate enough things personality is Tau so can you see
that Jung chooses his metaphor precisely because it holds the Paradox and it is in this constant movement and this is exactly how we have to go on our journey in order to realize our authentic path
