Culture is one of the biggest drives for our teams. Our culture gives people a lot of autonomy which creates an ideal environment for innovation. We don't have a specific "innovation department" because the whole company is constantly innovating.
First of all people will always be working on the most important thing they have to do. As a startup with limited resources, we cannot afford the luxury of wasting resources with unimportant things. There is a lot do be done a lot of importants things to be done.
In here, we have people who are very good at specific subjects and that are also very good at sharing this knowledge with everyone else. People sometimes think that you are letting go of control when there is no defined hierarchy "I am your boss; I will give you instructions on what you have to build". But this is not scalable.
A much scalable structure is built when you get high-level talent and create a strong culture with good incentives. Then, I think you can build something like Nubank. We have great diversity here From background diversity we have biologists, airplane pilots, people with various backgrounds and experiences… And also almost one third of our Xpeers are LGBQIT; women make up 40% of our team which is a larger ratio than the market average.
We have a very competent, diverse team they come from different countries, have different nationalities and preferences, and all this helps us have different points of view and build better solutions. Everyone knows Nubank for our Credit Card and our culture. And the third thing people always talk about is "Nubank is that building at Rebouças (street), right?
". So the building itself is also part of our culture The atmosphere at the office, the work environment. .
it makes people want to spend more time in here to learn more, exchange experiences, talk about their preferences. . .
It is a very inclusive place. Many people want a job that makes them wake up and say "I am going to work, there is a lot to be done and I want to tackle it all". There are also the pets people who bring their buddies, their pets to work and certainly are more productive because they do not have to worry about their pets at home and can enjoy a moment with them at the office.
People hang out together, many people live together. We have groups to talk about things unrelated to work. We have our pool, which is meant to be a gathering place; ou coffee area our roof-top - which I love.
I want us to do more and more events there. There is volleyball during the week I think on Wednesdays. There is a PS4 downstairs and people are always playing during lunch.
Even after work, people hang here and have fun. It's what we always say: those little things build Nubank's Culture and everyone loves being here because of them. What is cool about working here is that we don't feel like a small part of a giant machine we feel like a real person who is contributing to something.
We don't feel as if we were easily replaceable as if you'd leave and someone would take your place. There is a "human" factor (here). People don't necessarily give their best when someone is constantly pushing them.
What we managed to create here at Nubank - and is, what I believe, the best way to motivate people - is simply create the right incentives. What we are trying to do is not easy. There are many challenges, and we want people who feel motivated by building difficult things - and not demotivated because we are building something difficult.
