the number one thing that I've learned by using hundreds of AI tools for research is that large language models actually do a pretty good job at almost everything these tools do now there are some specialized tools we we will get to in a minute but large language models such as chat GPT such as perplexity such as anthrop anthropic that's it such as Claude and also such as Bing they are pretty good if and this is a big if you you prompt them the right way because most AI tools are just sort of like hiding behind
them is chat GPT or another large language model and it's like oh hello oh I wasn't expecting you to look back here it's Chad GPT with a fancy layer on top so you need to know how to prompt these large language models properly and this is what I have come to um understand is that it needs these things the perfect prompt look like this so the first thing is context you need to give it like I am a researcher or you can say you are an expert researcher that is an important part of the context
and anything else you needed to know to do a good job such as you are a firste researcher doing a literature review on blah blah blah that is great context the next thing you need is what you want as well as any constraints you want to put on the prompt so you need to say I want you to describe this research page paper to me or you can say something like I want you to provide me with an understanding of blah blah blah so whatever you want the large language model to do you need to
give it what you want it to do and any limitations like don't talk about this or don't give it in table format don't give it in bullets whatever you need it to do give it that constriction and it will work with you the last thing you need is format you need to say I want this in bullet points a table a graph whatever it is a paragraph 25 sentences however you want the information you need to give it and then you've got audience quite often the and I say this will be shown to um a
peer-reviewed uh panel of experts or whatever it is that is what you need to say so you've got context what you want with constraints format and audience just stick to that and you can do most things that these AI tools do such as writing such as editing um and uh yeah it's all at your fingertips o without having to pay a subscription each AI excels at a particular thing and the problem is at the moment we're in this sort of like Topsy Turvy world of AI tools where people are trying to find their own little
niche with their AI tools there is no one tool that you can use throughout your entire research process whether it's finding literature to submitting and editing for publication there are lots of little steps in between and each tool does something really well so for example if you head over here you know side space fantastic at literature reviews and their slowly sort of like producing AI writers finding Concepts paraphrases but it started with chat PDF and also trying to find research so use your little fingers Tippy tappy Tippy tappy in there and it will give you
research based on the semantic search request that you have put in there then you've got Julius AI for any of your data stuff you've also got Jenny for writing you've got consensus for finding out a consensus within a particular research field based on the papers um and it goes on and on the thing about this is we're at a stage where you need to create your own AI toolkit you need to sort of chain together different AI tools that allow you to get the most out of the vast array of tools that are right there
so go check out my course where I talk about creating an AI toolkit for you um the link is in the description and I think it's just a fantastic place to start in the future I think what we'll see is all of these bigger AI tools gobbling up y y y all the rest of them to produce Mega AI platform for research and science but at the moment we're in the wild west one thing you need to know about this is that this is a collaborative effort between you and the Ai No Matter What AI
tool I've Ed no matter what AI General model I AB used it is always a conversation quite often they give me responses and I'm like no this is not right do it this way obviously I'm a little bit nicer because when they eventually become our leaders and overlords they got to be they got to remember me as a nice dude don't they but you just need to go backwards and forwards a few time I think in the early days people just expected it to kind of be this magic box that spit out everything you needed
perfectly like I said at the beginning remember the prompt structure remember to have those key elements in it and if it doesn't give you what you want get it to repeat it with um extra information be very specific about what you do and don't like and then you'll slowly hone in the right response from the AI and then you can use your meat brain to be like I'll make this a little bit better you just need to put that shine that shine on top another thing I've learned about all these AI tools is that even
once you found a cool AI tool that you love they go and bloody change it don't they like I said we are in the stage of AI research tools that just change can happen overnight they change the prompts they change the model they change the interface all of these things can mean one of your favorite AI tools becomes one of your not so useful AI tools so you need to be open for swapping in and out different Tools in your AI toolkit as soon as it no longer serves you in the way it once did
the fact that they lose a customer will speak volumes and they'll start making it better but you need to be open to using different types of AI tools and say subscribe to this channel I've always I can never work out a non-cheesy way of being like like And subscribe anyway you know what to do just watch this Channel and I'll fill you in on all the new ones it doesn't mean you have to use them by the way it doesn't mean like you have to be like oh I got to use all these AI tools
if there's one that you think you can slot into your AI tool kit or can replace a part of your AI toolkit then that's fantastic that's what these these videos are about not like use them all all the time because you'll just run out of money first of all and run out of time and just feel stressed do you remember about 6 months to a year ago everyone was saying oh no oh no don't use AI it's cheating all of the big Publishers decided that you couldn't use Ai and then they realize they can't actually
police that in any reasonable way and also places like Google are allowing you to write AI content online they're not able to enforce it so if one of the biggest companies in the world cannot enforce people not using AI then what chance do these Publishers have so they allow you to use it but within rules so go check out rules for the publisher that you're thinking about publishing um in so here this is the nature publishing group so we've got here artificial intelligence go and make sure you've got all of the information in your mind
so you know the limitations and how they allow you to use it over time we'll see a relaxing of those rules and you'll be able to use different tools for different things but at the moment make sure that you comply with all of the rules and you know the rules for where you're publishing that's all I have to say on it go check out my other video after this one by the way watch this one to the end but go check out this video where I talk about all of the new rules you need to
know about for different Publishers they started strict no and now they're like H use it because we can't police it but do it this way the last thing I want to talk about is AI fatigue that feeling you get when you're like not a another blooming AI tour don't worry about it AI fatigue is very normal but I think it's good to know what is out there because like I said swapping in andout tools to your AI toolkit is something that you need to do regularly um but once you found something that works for you
don't bother looking any further just be aware of what's out there but don't be overwhelmed by feeling like you're missing out on the newest greatest thing unless there is something that is a like astronomical jump over what is currently available there's really no need it's all about user interface and uh sort of like how well as well it works with your research field some tools work really well in some fields and not others but I don't really understand why so go check out the tools that you like stick with the ones that work for you
in the way that you want them to work and then you'll be able to sort of like build on that Foundation don't start thinking oh I need to like go over here it's like fomo feeling right where you're like oh no this one's really good I should use this oh no this one's better don't worry about it they're pretty much all the same within certain subcategories you know whether or not you're writing finding literature literature mapping doing AI um data analysis they're all pretty much the same it's just just about what ones you like to
use and no one can decide that but you but I'm here to help ding ding if you like this video go check out this one where I talk about all of the essential AI research assistance that you should be using
