hello everyone Professor lar here I'm your uh New Testament uh Professor introduction to the New Testament and uh we have been studying for quite a few weeks and now as we are just going to finish our semester and our course I want to help you to dive into two books and um you will have at the platform the PDF content for Ephesians and also the PDF content for uh Philippians so this is a uh a two classes two separate classes and uh as I mentioned to you this time you will have as assignment just a
quiz for Ephesians and for the Philippians saying all that I want you to help you uh understand at least uh in a very introductory way um the content of the book of the letter of the epistle of Ephesians but before going further I want to just clarify something about the Apostle Paul excuse me the Apostle Paul I mentioned that uh the level of his knowledge and his studies it's it correspond to a in our days a PhD in philosophy uh so all the amount of knowledge and studies that he have put under his bth studying
to become a doctor of the law and once we mention a doctor we are not implying that he is a MD doctor or medical doctor no it's a kind of a postgraduation in philosophy because he were not a MD he were not a a medical doctor like to say um an attorney can become a doctor um a business person can have a doctor and in in business business or in economy uh in philosophy and that was the case for the Apostle Paul somebody in Seattle at the presential class lecture came to me and asked Professor
please can you help some of my friends to clarify the idea of that the Paul was a doctor so now you have it okay well I want to introduce you to the letter or Epistle of Ephesians Ephesians is one of the great Epistles and letters that we have in the New Testament and this letter was written during uh the early Christian era likely in the first century and specifically during the Apostle Paul's imprisonment in Rome and uh just to mention that you already have the name of the author of the letter and the Epistle of
Ephesians has some good plac in into my heart and uh I really enjoy reading and revisiting I enjoy to do exerices in that book because that book has a lot to teach us and uh has a lot in common with the church today well for us to understand and a little bit better Ephesus uh was a city located into the minor Asia okay this whole entire area the they call the Galaxia or minor Asia okay so a it's right here Jerusalem it's right there and Paul wrote it his letter to Ephesus we must remember that
uh Paul is starts the church Paul planted this church okay and later on he he wrote the letter to our brothers and sisters in Ephesus Ephesus were or was a very prominent Center in the Roman province of Asia back then the called the area Anatolia or Anatolia uh which in our modern days is Turkish okay so AA was was very prominent city was a port city people coming from different parts of the world okay with Goods ships people culture religion everything that you can imagine Ephesus has back then why because this was a very prominent
Port City like Seattle like la like Miami so I want you to remember or have in mind that once you're talking about a city like uh Ephesus or a city that is a port uh of entrance of goods and and people from all over of course they bring Goods that will bring Revenue that will bring a Commodities that will bring um money that will be bring jobs but with all that we'll bring a lot of problems okay and that was the case Not only was a port city but this city was very close to what
the Romans call Via apia it was a kind of a highway from this region to the uh Orient to the uh East far to the Far East if you may so aesu was a very prominent City very important city uh it was known uh for its Great temple when I mentioned that because of the importance everything comes together a lot of things come together good and bad and it was a very known for its great Temple dedicated to the godess emesis or for the Romans Diana one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and
with all that with all that that this Temple this practice they have what they call a in the temple they have like 1,000 1,000 Priestess prostitutes in the temple and saying that the city was affected by this principality and power it's not the case for us today but I just want you to understand to that what once you read the the letter to the Romans you will see a lot of content where you will understand and see Paul taking care of problems correcting problems you will understand and see Paul bringing a kind of a a
alignment for the brothers and sisters in that City okay I'm not gonna go too too deep on that because I I I could stay here speaking about talking about for hours and it's it's worthy to study the letter to the Ephesians so you already know that Paul wrote it the boo okay when did he wrot the book the scholars and what we have in hand they have a date approximately they cannot emphasize or they cannot assure that was a uh March 18 of 1965 no no they cannot do that but seems like the most of
uh not only theologians but the the fathers of the church and the uh the Scholars they come to a date in between the 60 to 62 of our era okay and most likely uh during Paul first Roman imprisonment who were the recipients of this letter well we know that was to ephes or the Ephesians but who who who was these people you know that letter was addressed to the Saints the Saints the people that were Sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ by their faith in Jesus Christ you will see this in Ephesians chapter 1st
verse one however some early uh manuscript locked the phrase in Ephesus okay maybe not just for the inner city but to the All Region for all the brothers and sisters in the region okay uh and that letter were intended for that uh people in that region as I showed you in that region epes okay the authorship I already told you you know there's no way to to wrong on that is a is the Apostle Paul okay now that I I believe this is something that is going to be very important for you okay you need
to understand this Ephesians that there was a a reason in a context for Paul to write this letter the letter if you pay a closed attention you will see that Paul emphasizes the unity of Believers in Christ and explores the cosmic significance of Christ's work in reconciling all things to God so everything was reconciled to God in that case the church people from all over people from different uh backgrounds religiously speaking and even our Jews brothers that believe now in the M Messiah but they brought into the church in Ephesus so much from the tradition
of the Jews and Paul have to work around bring unity and exort them and teach them and bring Unity to the core to the body of Christ in that place and just to give you a few the letter addresses various aspects of it Christian doctrine and conduct he talks about Doctrine and conduct including the mystery of the Gospel the role of the church as the body of Christ the importance of unity and love among Believers and practical instructions for Christian Living we cannot stress those themes uh much more because this is an introduction ction to
the book of Ephesians and to the New Testament I intend just to give you some pills some tools and try to uh encourage you to study the letter the Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians God bless you I encourage you to read the PDFs either in Portuguese or English and do the the quiz okay there are so many subject questions there just to help you in your studies hope you enjoy and hope you have many questions to dive in and to search and research on your own and may the Holy Spirit give you Revelation as
