hello Professor Le marloes here and today I wanted to help you with your studies on the letter to the Philippians and uh as I mentioned before when we were studying Ephesus uh or Ephesians uh the Philippians is a also not only a good but a very important uh letter uh and especially for us in our days I want to to help you understand a little bit where is it where it locates okay because this letter was written uh to Philippi okay or to the Philippians uh to the people that lives in the city of philippos
and it's right here also um very close to Ephesus and philippus or Philippi is or were a city back then in Paul's day uh a city very important Roman city located in Macedonia and where is Macedonian today Macedonian today is the Greek or Greece okay is Greece and Paul most like he he found that church during his second missionary journey you will find that in the book of Acts chapter 16 11 to verse number 40 4 okay and philippos or Phillip was named after the name of the father of the emperor Alexander the greater or
the great uh that's why the city has his this name okay uh so traditionally whenever you uh will consult any historical book you will see that uh mention why philippos or Philippi has this name okay so because that were a uh in in in in memory okay in honor of uh Alexander the Great's father okay the date that this book were written also the scholars the theologians uh they placed this book very close to the letter that Paul wrote to the Ephesians around the year 61 to 62 okay if we take in account that uh
Paul uh planted Ephesus Church also and and uh and taking account that Paul wrote this letter while he were arrested in Rome that most likely the letter to the Philippians uh were written at the same or close to the same time okay now the recipients of uh this letter the letter address answer to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi with the overseers and deacons with the pastors with the leaders with the deons of that church so uh you will see that in first chapter of the Philippians uh verse number one and
uh it was likely intended for the entire Christian Community in Philippi the authorship I don't have to explain it to you or discuss that with you and uh was the Apostle Paul okay now uh the last but not uh least uh the reasons and contexts of the writing of this book The Philippians or the Philippians uh is often referred to a Paul's letter of Joy because of its emphasis on rejoicing in the Lord despite circumstances Paul works very hard to trying to show and to help our brothers and sisters back then in Philippi or philippos
to understand the circumstances cannot be a an impediment towards our faith and towards our rejoicing into the Lord and uh there's nothing external there's no external factors that could control our inside our inner man if the Lord is really our Lord so there's nothing that can control us inside the letter was WR to thank the Philippines for their financial support and to encourage them to stand firm in their faith maintain unity and strive for maturity in Christ Jesus see Paul addresses the situation within the city with bringing Unity bring love bringing caring and uh encouraging
the brothers and sisters in spite all of adversities and uh in the chapter four you will say I have learned to leave in any circumstances I learned to enjoy or to have joy in any circumstances if you read read the whole chapter there you will understand clearly what Paul was mentioned and was referring to in that letter so uh I want to just to tell you that on your PDFs you have much more information that will help you to answer your quizzes so uh dive into those PDFs and I hope you can enjoy reading the
PDFs that will be very very much of a help to you and he teaches the brothers and sisters in Philippians about humility and the fouls
