[Music] let's now examine the meaning because many Sunni Scholars throughout history they realized you know what we can't deny this Hadith it's an established Hadith the prophet said we cannot deny this so let's try to give different interpretations to it so they gave you a number of other interpretations and basically they try to State this does not prove that IM Ali is the khif who has Authority after the prophet sallahu alaih let's examine the word MAA what does the word MOA in Arabic mean in Arabic the word MOA has a number of meanings it means
Master it also means slave yes it means master and slave interesting right you have two antonyms and you have one word for them it means supporter it means the one who has Authority it means the one who is a guardian and it means the one who has a greater right on you these are all meanings of mola and there are many other meanings now this last meaning being a guardian having authority over you is the most common meaning and it's mentioned in the Quran for instance in verse 15 Allah subhana tala States Allah is speaking
to the disbelievers he tells them your Abode your final destination is hell what does that mean when Allah says hell is your mola what does that mean your friend your supporter what does it mean your what path be more be more specific your resting place your resting place but the word mola how is Allah applying the word mola on hell you're getting closer yes you earned your enemy your enemy well Allah is saying that you're going to hell but he describes hell as being their mola we're trying to find out what that means what they're
loyal to basically the word mola means the one who has the greatest right over you so he's the closest one to you and Allah subh T saying Hell has the greatest right on you because you're the closest to hell this is the meaning of the word mola and Allah uses it in the Quran so the fire is their Guardian yes it's like you are going in the uh you know you're being hosted by hell right in the hospitality of hell it's your guardian it's going to take you and the hell is your guardian this is
the meaning of the word Moola so the word MOA means it has authority authority it has it's it's it gives you the meaning of guardianship this is the most common meaning of the word MAA and this is the exact same meaning of the word w in Arabic the word w and MAA have the same meaning they're just different forms for example you have linguists such as Al They confirm that and M have the same meaning and in fact the prophet sallallahu alaih has a Hadith in which he talks about a woman being married without the
permission of her MOA well what does he mean by m the one who's in charge of her the one who commands her Affair who her father or grandfather for example so the word MAA and W basically have the same meaning in fact Scholars of the Arabic language have stated that MAA in reality just has one meaning all of these different dictionary meanings that we see are applications of the original meaning of MAA let me give you an example one of the meanings of MAA in Arabic means al- Malik owner that's one of the meanings of
mola if you open the dictionary you will find that one of the meanings of mola is Malik owner when you own something question what does owner al- Malik have to do with the meaning of mola that we discussed the meaning of mola which means you have the greatest right over something you have the greatest authority over something what does that have to do with being a Malik if you're an owner then you own something it's yours so you have all the rights exactly when you own something you have the greatest right over it right you
have the authority over it not someone else if I if something is mine it belongs to me it's my milk it's my possession I have the greatest right over it and that's why Mal owner in Arabic is also called a mola so see all of these words go back to the original meaning of mola which means having the greatest right over so the prophet sallallahu alaih is stating just as I am your mola Ali is your mola and what's the original meaning of mola the one who has the greatest right over you the one who
has Authority and guardianship over you then Ali has that same Authority well what does this mean when the prophet says Ali has that Guardianship and authority over you what does that mean what is the prophet trying to say he's the one who represents me he's the one who commands this position he's the Khalifa what other meaning Can it have he has a guardian but yeah let him sit in his house and do nothing and isolate him for 25 years doesn't make sense when the prophet says he has the greatest Authority means he's going to be
he he should be your ruler he's the one who should be appointed as the it's very clear so this is strictly look at it looking at it from a linguistic perspective now when you look at the context of the Hadith the context itself also clearly demonstrates the meaning of the Hadith so when you look at the context you see that the prophet sallallah alai stopped tens of tens of thousands of companions on their way traveling you know back then traveling was not easy the prophet in a desert those who went ahead of him he calls
them those who were behind he waits for them it's an inconvenience under the heat of the Sun and then you saw how he started his speech talking about the day of judgment making them bear witness to all of these truths and then mentioning the Quran and the and then the prophet says do I not have a greater right over you see in fact the prophet uses these same the very cretion of the same word do you see that connection oh look at the context of the Hadith itself when the prophet says do I not have
a greater right over you then he says yes one of the meanings of MAA does mean friend and supporter but when you look at the context of the Hadith the prophet did all this just so he declares im aliam as a friend to the Believers was he an enemy to the Believers what was he for the prophet to remind them hey Ali is your friend just like I'm your friend doesn't make sense you don't stop 100,000 people in the middle of the desert just to say that that's nonsense no wise person would do that and
this answers a fundamental objection that some have they're like if you say the prophet was ordered by God to declare IM Ali as Theif and he stopped all these comp ions at why didn't he do it at the why didn't he say it in first of all he tried we saw and and they stopped his speech we saw the commotion that happened that's number one number two if the prophet had said this at the Hajj they would have succeeded more in concealing the appointment of Imam Ali because they would have said yeah the prophet was
at Hajj and he gave a speech about the Hajj they would distort the message of the Prophet The Prophet chose a place that has no other occasion except this so no one in history can say no the prophet gave a speech about another event Allah purposely had the prophet leave the Hajj and go to an area so that whenever you hear the event of GAD immediately know there was no other occasion except the appointing of IM aliam see that in itself was very important it's very clever it's a very clever plan by Allah subhana wa
tala because if the prophet had said it in the Hajj oh yeah he just gave us advice about the Hajj and then he said this and that you could dilute it because the Hajj in itself is an important occasion but if you ask well why did the prophet stop in the middle of the desert after the Haj what was he trying to say what's going on over here he must have said something important you don't just stop in the middle of the desert and that brings our attention to something very very important that the prophet
sallallahu alai mentioned so that's the meaning of mola the one who has a greater Authority and in verse 78 Allah States hold on to Allah subhana wa tala he is your mola and when you look at the word MOA in the Quran it's always used to give which meaning the one who has authority over you oh no except the prophet when he said that he meant friend and supporter on what basis do you say that look at the context of the speech of the Prophet sallah Al especially when he told them then after the prophet
sallallahu alaih made that speech and the companions before they dispersed from that area Allah subhana tala reveals verse three ofah as we stated that's another indication that the prophet chose IMI as Theif as the leader why because Allah saying on that day religion has been completed how was it completed let's assume IM Ali was not declared as Theif that day let's just assume what happened on that day what what how did God complete Islam with what Salah has had already been explained Haj was already explained s Jihad everything about Islam the basics were stated in
the Quran really what was left out that was so important that makes Allah complete the religion with it tells you this is something significant something huge that comes in the line of it's in that same trajectory that's indication in itself that the prophet made an important announcement not just saying oh Ali is my friend that doesn't make any sense and if you really look at this verse of verse three of when Allah says on this day the day of I have completed your religion I've perfected my and I've accepted Islam as a religion look at
the implied meaning in this verse if you take the of IM Ali is that Islam or no you judge based on this verse what's the implied meaning if someone tells you you know what today today I accept this for you today I'm satisfied with you that means yesterday what was I was I happy with this full package no today Allah says today Islam now I accept it as a complete religion for you without the of IM Ali religion is incomplete in fact there's no Islam without IM Ali according to this verse because Allah says the
Islam that doesn't have IM Allah is not satisfied with it that's not the Islam that Allah wants and this is clear in the Holy Quran and so the prophet sallallah alai when you examine the context of and there are many other aspects of this Hadith we summarized it it really tells you the prophet is mentioning something significant remember in his speech the prophet stated I am about to depart remember that part when you as a leader you're about to depart and there's going to be a gap after you and you hold the hand of someone
and you declare him as the W what are you trying to say what other Poss possibility is there really what other possibility Subhan Allah but it goes back to that stubbornness and that rejection of the truth he said it he said I have 400 paths to this Hadith but there's it doesn't settle in with me there's something about it no argument against it they just don't want they know they know the truth but they cannot accept the truth the Quran says they know the truth the the imams of B they made it very clear that
they know the truth [Music]
