when the turkey was set on the table my brother and I simultaneously knew that something was odd about it my sister remained oblivious until it happened and my mom and dad were too enamored with my grandmother's newly crafted ultimate mac and cheese casserole to take notice of the odd birth placed before them my aunt acted normal although she hadn't seemed too excited about any dish in particular after setting the turkey down my grandfather took his place at the head of the table his rightful place since it was his house and gestured for us all to
join hands in prayer my brother and I kept our eyes open throughout the entirety of it our gazes shifting from that weird turkey to each other and to the faces of our relatives who melt the words languidly spoken by our grandfather a man of great patience reverenced for God and little appetite when the communal amen was uttered eyes flicked open and hands quested for serving utensils plates were raised portions were carved excised and scooped and forks descended upon dead meat and heat blasted cheese roast potatoes and steamed vegetables only my brother and I had stayed
our hands not wanting anything to do with the savagely human bird so is not to raise suspicion I subtly enjoined him to grab something else and sent my own hand towards a bread roll I loaded my plate enough to where the absence of turkey would hopefully not be noticed and he did likewise and yet our grandfather ever watchful noticed our avoidance of the main dish is something wrong with the meat children too dry for your tastes perhaps two as you might say lemony the chatter which had filled the table stopped in an instant and All
Eyes turned to look at my brother and I there were few rules of courtesy at our dinner table once the prayer was finished and everyone was typically free to indulge how they would but one thing you did not do among our family was insult the holiday cooking if you didn't like it you stomached it to to avoid eating the food entirely was considered a direct insult to the person who had prepared it a nearly unforgivable culinary sin always quicker to thought than my brother I started out an excuse about how I was saving the turkey
for last and treating the present items on my plate as appetizers my tongue typ brother simply nodded in agreement and put on a smile that would have made the most devout nun appear guilty of utter blasphemy our grandfather studied us with his hop-like face for just a moment the eyes quickly passing back and forth between my brother and I before clapping his hands together and applauding our preference of eating he thanked us for giving his turkey such an anticipatory consideration then turned to my mom and began an entirely unrelated conversation the chatter of the table
resumed and my brother and I exchanged glance of relief as we nibbled on our food and tried not to look at the bizarre turkey inches away from us the minutes ticked by until half an hour had elapsed and neither of us had touched the turkey I'd already finished a plate and a half of the so-called appetizers and my stomach had grown bloated from the mac and chees casserole which was actually very good my brother chewed absent-mindedly at stuff thing and I had to flick a green bean at him before he unwittingly drank from a small
cup of gravy our avoidance of the turkey was pathetically obvious at this point but our grandfather was too absorbed in the retelling of some story from his time spent as an occult investigator to notice which by the appearance of my glassy eyed father was not a new one at 40 minutes with a slight of hand I hadn't thought possible for her arthritic hands my ant slid a few slices of turkey onto my plate and did the same for my brother the latter maneuver was extremely impressive since he sat two seats away from her where his
ey had been seated right beside her no one noticed this but once the Act was complete she casually spoke aloud well that's the second helping I've seen you two eat you must really like your good old Grandpa's turkey doubly bewildered first by her surreptitiously surfed turkey and secondly by the blatant falsehood my brother and I could only offer wide eyes and awkward Smiles in response our grandfather turned his attention away from my dad who seemed relieved by the interruption glancing at our plates and then our faces our grandfather seemed to doubt the legitimacy of our
ant's observation he even glanced at the turkey as if in an attempt to mentally evaluate how much had been taken and by whom for a moment I feared that I would have to take a bite in order to validate my aunt's boldly spoken lie but just as my fingers twitched towards my Fork a smile spread across Grandpa's face and he nodded in thanks then without further delay he returned his attention to my dad who in turn resumed that far minded glassy I'd look the change overcame my mom and sister first my mom as she would
often awkwardly say is a turkey holic and has never failed to consume the most of it during Thanksgiving my sister simply likes holiday food in general with the time of the year being her break from the rigid diet that she adheres to in college prior to the season together they had eaten several thick cuts of Turkey most of which had been slathered in homemade gravy it was a lucky thing that I'd stopped my brother from drinking the gravy earlier because bits of turkey had also been used in its preparation when my mom leaned back in
her chair moaning and rubbing her stomach I assumed it was the natural result of turkey begotten ler when my sister did the same an act uncharacteristic of her she was ravenous but not slovenly I suspected that something was wrong my dad was beginning to nod off and hadn't noticed the dual display of turkey based debilitation my aunt had excused herself presumably to go to the bathroom or call her husband who hadn't been able to attend due to his unchangeable work schedule my grandmother had already started busying herself with cleaning up the empty dishes and Trays
my grandfather sitting still with his un finished first plate before him watched my mom and sister with a casual and somewhat Sinister look of satisfaction my brother noticed the unusual behavior of our sister and threw me a glance that held in it all the Fraternal Panic he could impress without drawing attention to himself for some reason we both sensed knew with the dark certainty that it was imperative we remained calm in front of our grandfather mother something strange was occurring something that involved the turkey and while we hadn't an idea about what exactly that thing
was we knew that upholding the family holiday spirit was crucial to sustaining our well-being all that adherence to calmness and furtive exchanges was thrown out the window when my sister's stomach burst open and a monstrous creature crawled out from her innards and sat itself onto the dinner table the utter shock at this Unholy visceral birth silenced the scream that had threatened to escape my throat my brother reeled back nearly falling out of his chair the creature no bigger than a puppy but abhor formed and covered in Gore flailed about on the table knocking over dishes
and glasses of wine my sister appeared unfaced by the abdominal erup ruption and continued to recline with the same casualness as before my mother in a similar State said nothing but a moment later her stomach bulged hideously and something then cut its way out through the straining Flesh Blood sprayed out drenching the food on the table and also the two youthful faces that stared in stupified horror at the grizzly Genesis the first creature gain some semblance of physical articulation and raised itself on four shaking blood soaked limbs its body was a bastardization of human and
Aven morphology a twisted amalgamation of mamalian features and the finer aspects of poultry it was at first voiceless but an inhuman cry soon erupted from its newborn lungs and a wailing Grimmer than a post-war durge was carried across the dinner table chilling my blood colder than the ice cream cake on the counter the potent stench of bells conquered the Aromas of the meal filling my nostrils with nauseating fumes upon hearing that appalling sound I screamed in Mindless Terror and my scream then Rose in pitch and ferocity to match that awful BEAST's cry as the second
creature detached itself from its intestinally umbilical connection to my mother this creature was slightly larger than the first but just as a parent as its predecessor my brother shocked beyond all sense nearly cried in his seat finally Awakening from all the Ruckus my dad turned his attention toward the Carnage and shouted something unintelligible I turned to him hoping he would bring some sense to the madness and a deeper darker dread instantly befell my heart as I watched my grandfather plunge a fork into my dad's neck the most bizarre thing of that charnal scene my grandmother
simply continued cleaning totally ignorant or apathetic to the violence and death happening around her she brushed the crumbs off the table covering stacked dirty plates onto one another and refilled wine glasses even those of people who were presently dead or dying and all the while my grandfather looked on those two wretched gut born turkey spawns with a morbid Glee his lips silently melted in decipherable Words which I can only assume were the lyrics to some profane incantation relating to the developing atrocities after a few moments of gurgling my father's body felt fell forward onto the
table his head coming to rest in a container of barely touched candied yams my grandmother walked by plucked the fork from his neck and placed it onto the pile of dishes that she carried in her other hand I don't remember consciously unseating myself navigating around the table and those horrible Little Creatures both screaming now and grabbing my brother but I do remember pushing aside my grandfather and clocking my grandfather in the side of the head with a turkey leg I of course dropped the turkey leg after it struck guiding my still weeping brother by the
hand I fled the house leaving those two crawling incubi and my mostly dead family behind and I practically threw my brother into the car and he regained enough sense and presence of mind to order him to buckle his seat belt he did as I commanded and as I pulled out of the driveway sweaty hands barely managing to stay on the wheel my aunt stumbled out the front door of the house with gravy and what I hoped wasn't blood smeared across her mouth she looked terrified and I was about to stomp on The Brak and have
my brother open the backseat door for her but she screamed drive away and threw her arms out before I could challenge the order order her and beckon her to the car her legs buckled and she fell to her knees a second later an expression of unimaginable Agony overrode her face and her hands gripped her stomach a cry unlike anything I'd ever heard erupted from her throat and her stomach expanded to an alarming inordinate size I actually heard it burst the sound was to be gruesomely simple wet her entrail splashed onto the front porch coating the
surface in Blood and bile her awful cry was cut short and her head fell back from within the pile of guts stirred a monstrous yet familiar thing and its half human half beastial cry sent my body to Terror induced action I pulled out of the driveway and sped down the street leaving that delivery room of Hell behind by the time we had reached the highway I suppose I'd unconsciously driven us towards our own home my brother had calm down a bit and asked what happened back there I hadn't even the slightest idea of what to
tell him so I just said I don't know and then as if in answer to our ignorance my phone rang the caller was my mom who I had just minutes ago watched give intestinal birth to some abysmal little turkey demon but reason and instinct told me to ignore the call or even throw the phone out the window but a black curiosity compelled me to answer it by default I have my phone set to answer calls on speaker phone so my brother heard the subsequent sounds too I don't think he'll ever recover from the trauma they
caused I won't spend long describing what we heard it was the noise of a demonic chorus the sounds of actual pandemonium cries and shrieks that couldn't have come from human lungs filled the car and I almost crashed the car into a guard rail as I instinctively brought my hands to my ears I barely managed to write the steering wheel and Save Our Lives in my repulsion at those loathsome evil sounds we had already traveled miles away from that diabolical sight by the time I received the call and yet my foot depressed the pedal even harder
when I heard beneath the screeching Horrors the Deep maniacal laughter of my grandfather just as I threw the phone out the window I heard the words finally grandchildren who will come visit me for more than just the holidays my girlfriend gave my arm a tight squeeze we were standing on the doorstep of her parents house and I just rung the doorbell to the formidable mansiones home you're going to love them she said no I thought I most certainly won't I was nervous of course I hadn't met her parents before and now I had to meet
the whole family during Thanksgiving instead of having a chance to ease into the familial relations over smaller occasions straight into the deep end things had been going well between Mabel and I we'd been seeing each other for a little over a year we had celebrated the holiday separately last time time as Mabel informed me that her family could be a little overwhelming and she didn't want to scare me off right out the gate I laughed at off then but I wasn't laughing about it now Jesus I thought I ain't got the side of the home
I should have known she came from money I most certainly did not I worked as a chef in a restaurant and it wasn't until just recently that my bills had become a little less imposing on my bank account I carried a balance across two credit cards and bore some debt from a failed college degree I never received in Communications I drove a decade old hyundi that seemed to lock up in the winter to the point that I'd have to massage the dashboard and pray for Good Fortune whenever I'd have to drive home on a cold
night after closing I didn't think that I would fit into Mabel's family well I imagine their table would be full of swaave young businessmen and then I'd be there wearing my slightly rty sweat with my forearms covered in Burns and scrapes from the prior night service but that's what Mabel said she liked about me I felt real genuine she worked with a catering company that partnered up with my restaurant for an evening celebration and whenever she came back into the kitchen I made sure to try and grab her attention and it seemed to work because
here we were I wouldn't say that I loved mael mostly because I had commitment issues but I liked her a good good damn deal which is what made everything about this so stressful I had no idea what I was going to talk about with her parents or her siblings and their significant others I was terrible at Small Talk straight dog at it and now I would have to get by for an entire evening where I'd probably have to blow smoke up her dad's ass about how well my stocks were doing stocks I didn't own Mabel
played with my fingers and whispered into my my ear remembered a smile the door opened and I screwed the least offensive smile possible onto my face her father Larry stood in the doorway a half-cocked grin on his face uh-oh L looks like the trouble's here he said with Glee Oh so we're doing that routine ah you got me I fainted I'm Paul Mabel's told me so much about you you I offered my hand and Larry clapped onto it like he was a Survivor drowning in the wreckage of the Titanic only about good things I hope
replied Larry and he broke out into laughter Mabel embraced him in a hug have you been sweet pea hope you two have plenty of room tonight because lern has been cooking up quite the feast today of course Mr scoffield I've heard that Mrs scoffield is quite the cook that's putting it mildly Paul the meal is going to blow your mind say why don't you call me Larry Mr scoffield makes me feel old like a fossil or something I nodded somehow I just knew Larry was going to be one of those people the kind that acts
like he's the friendliest guy in the world until you say the wrong thing or he finds out something about you that he just doesn't like and then he become very passive aggressive about it we entered into the foyer and Larry took our coats the rest of the family wasn't far off and I proceeded to go through what felt like a conga line of introductions Paul this is Jason my sister's husband did I mention that he's a doctor eventually the introductions came back around to me and Mabel proudly told the others how I was a professional
chef and had worked at some very reputable sorts of places she kept LongHorn Steakhouse off the list I tried to keep up with the names being tossed at me left and right I wasn't the best with names but I knew it was important to get some of them right tonight Jason was married to Mel's sister Elise and they had a four-year-old daughter together named Isabelle Sasha was map's older sister that did some sort of motivational speaking or coaching or as I like to call it manipulation Sasha and her husband currently weren't on speaking terms which
just made things easier for me as there was one less person to remember under Mabel the youngest sister was crystal spilled with a K of course lastly Mabel had a brother somewhere in the middle of the siblings named Ian that helped out with her father's Affairs as to what those Affairs entailed I wasn't entirely sure Mabel hadn't said much else besides her father worked as some sort of Trader her family seemed nice enough but I knew each of them were sizing me up in different way ways and I got the impression that even though Mabel
wasn't the youngest she might have been the one to earn the honor of being Daddy's girl lever came out of the kitchen wearing an apron that said kiss the cook and a felt part of me imagine what would happen if I just bent her over my arm and planted a huge kiss on her in front of the whole family I could just imagine Larry coming up with a goofy ass expression to cut through the tension hey Paul save some for the rest of us you must be Chef Paul said lever oh Christ I'm already reduced
to a title yep that's me I said Mabel told me that you know your way around the kitchen I hope tonight's dinner will be up to your standards I'm making one of my grandmother's classic recipes you're not one of those vegetarians are you she laughed as she said this I do not have any dietary restrictions I said I'll eat anything L opened her mouth in Surprise anything well just about anything I laughed I certainly like someone with a diverse pallet she replied we took our seats around the table Mabel and I sat together while the
rest of her family filled in around us my stomach was beginning to growl I had taken this dinner seriously even if it was bad I was dead set on cramming as much of it down as I could lest anyone start to question whether I didn't enjoy the meal I had performed a similar act with my grandparents over the years no matter what the food was always delicious even if it sometimes felt like I had to dunk my serving of turkey into some soda to help it go down L Larry and Crystal began to put plates
out give this one to Paul Lever said there's some extra gravy on it and I'd love to get his thoughts on my grandmother's recipe Crystal set one of the plates down in front of me and my stomach growled in anticipation the food actually looked pretty damn good on one side of the plate was a generous scoop of sweet potato casserole covered in toasted mini marshmallows cinnamon pecans and bits of Oats next to the sweet potatoes were several Spears of green bean almondine a small small Mount of apple and celery mixed stuffing and in the middle
of the plate three large cuts of what I presumed to be turkey with a light brown gravy likely reduced with white wine this looks delicious Mrs scoffield please call me l l and Larry I thought well before we dig in would anyone like to say grace asked Larry eyes roed around the table seeking a volunteer I really hoped the eyes wouldn't land on me but of course they did I stifled a cough I'm not exactly practicing I remarked hoping someone else would take up this cross Mel had mentioned that our family was basically Christian at
some point but it never seemed to be a big enough point of discussion between us I wasn't agnostic atheist if such term existed I just didn't pay much mind to the concept of a God or gods and I didn't let it influence my day-to-day life something tells me that Paul must have a lot of confessing to do but lucky for him he's in Good Company we're only religious around the holidays said Larry with the same sort of laugh from before Isabelle why don't you say a few words the 4-year-old looked around the table then seemed
to recall something she had repeated ad nauseum from something she'd seen God bless us everyone people around the table clapped I wondered if we would have to pay Dickens royalties let's eat announced Larry I grabbed my fork and decided to start with the sweet potatoes the sugar of the marshmallows accentuated the sweet but mellow Taste of the sweet potatoes and the pecans cinnamon and oats came in at the end for some additional support I tasted some hints of vanilla a dash of brown sugar and some butter mixed into the dish I stuffed a few green
beans into my mouth garlic butter and salt rushed over my tongue along with notes of toasted almond simple but great I figured it was time to move on to the main course now I cut into the turkey maneuvering it into some gravy and put it into my mouth wo I had eaten a lot of protein in my life but but nothing as good as this turkey I'd never had turkey packed with this much flavor before the meat was practically dripping and juices I wondered how many sticks of butter lern had massaged into the turkey I
tasted the salt pepper and other seasonings as well as various herbs like Sage Thyme and rosemary but they weren't overpowering I wondered if there was some sort of secret seasoning in the mix to make the turkey meat pop as much as it did well asked L what do you think this is some of the best turkey I've ever had no question I said raising my hands with praise L clasped her hands in Delight it's delicious as always mom Amed to the other kids I cleaned up my plate and drank some wine I was having a
legitimately nice time Mabel smiled at me and I could tell it was going well I felt my bladder was getting full so I excused myself to use the restroom down the hall and to the left around the band called Larry don't get lost Larry I wouldn't dream of it the scraping of plates and idle chatter faded away and I found the bathroom easily enough I sat down on the toilet and scrolled through my phone grateful to have some time to myself I was halfway through a news article about Black Friday when I heard a pounding
sound from an air vent on the ground opposite the toilet I guess it must have been the wind or maybe an animal rattling around it was a big house after all but then I heard the banging again it sounded intentional I flushed and washed up I wrapped my head around the corner of the bathroom and followed the sound I couldn't hear it as much in the hall so I followed where I thought it was coming from it led to what appeared to be a basement Cellar because of course this house would have a big Wine
Cellar underneath it I climbed down the stairs of the cellar and passed rows of bottles I was buzzing a little bit on the wine I consumed and was curious about the nature of the noise maybe they had a dog they put away I followed the pounding noise to a large iron door there was a padlock on the door but it appeared to be unlocked i s slid the door open it was one of those kinds that ran on a track and I caught the sight of a large Pantry room full of things like flour oil
spices and whatever else but then I saw something out of place buried among the goods of the pantry was a man strapped to a pipe in handcuffs there was a gag covering his mouth but it looked like he'd been swinging his leg into the ventilation duct above I stood there in complete confusion unable to come up with a good explanation for what I just stumbled across the man looked over to me and began to scream into the gag whoa hey just calm down I said I approached him with my hands raised and lowered his gag
you got to get the out of here he whispered he kept slurring his words so it was hard to understand what he was saying his cheeks were scarred with tears and red from crying and I started to sober up real quick was this guy a burglar they caught breaking in or something I thought back to what Mabel had said about what her dad did for a living he was a traitor could it be human trafficking but something was seriously wrong the man was pale on the verge of passing out and it was then that I
realized part of his right leg was completely gone I looked at his stump staring me in the face the only thing running through my mind was how the amputation site looked fresh I raised my eyes and saw white bandages wrapped around other parts of his body including his chest what's happening here I mean who are you I asked they keep taking he moaned he spit out a mouthful of Sal I and I realized he must have recently woke up from some sort of sedation taking meat taking meat he groaned he raced his shirt further and
I saw dark red stains from where he must have bled through his bandages he pulled the bandage away and my mouth fell open in shock I was looking at his rib cage but the flesh was missing to the point that I could see the shiny red Sheen of muscle and the shape of his bones I didn't know what to say what what the you got to get me out of here they're carving me into pieces he told me taking meat I replayed in my head I saw a white plate on a barrel next to the
guy full of the same fixings we had upstairs including the meat my stomach squirmed as I started to realize what I'd actually eaten for dinner I dry heaed into a bag of rice and coughed out some spit I wretched again and this time found purchase the contents of my meal spilled out in front of me but I kept my eyes closed I couldn't bear to see it I closed the bag up and leaned back against the cold brick wall in a cold sweat I don't know where the keys are dude you just have to sit
tight and I'll see if if I can find them okay I'll leave your gag off but don't draw any more attention to yourself I'll get help man he replied I suddenly realized how long I'd been gone from the table I also realized that Mabel and the other people at the table had all consumed the same meal I had did anyone else know Le and Larry what the I collected myself and went back upstairs to the dinner table by the time I returned to the table everyone was either nursing a glass of wine or drinking some
coffee all of the food had been cleared from the table Larry noticed me and broke into that stupid grin of his there he is everything okay there Paul you were gone for a little while his smile faded now and he stared at me with solemn sincerity yeah I replied trying to cover and actually got a call from work someone had a question about a recipe and I was just trying to help them figure it out Larry wiped his mouth with his napkin and squinted that's odd on Thanksgiving night I hadn't thought this through it's actually
for tomorrow's service I replied ah I see some people never rest he said and raised his wine glass I had to get Mabel away away from her parents so I could tell her I walked over to Mabel and put a hand on her back then ducked down to whisper into her ear hey I need to talk to you about something can we step outside she nodded at everyone with a bright smile and said she'd be right back we walked into a den a little ways away and when I was satisfied that no one could hear
me I went into it so your parents are keeping a guy locked up in the basement her face broke into surprise excuse me yeah I whispered he's handcuffed in their Cellar and what's more I think we had parts of him for dinner Mabel turned her back and wedged her nail into her mouth I had seen her do the same behavior countless times when she got nervous we need to do something Mabel this is I thought of poor Isabelle who had no clue about what she was eating someone had has to do something Paul she said
her voice quivering I know we all know but that's I said dumbfounded that's cannibalism she finished we both stood there in the den staring at each other in silence my mouth flapped open but I was unable to speak I couldn't believe what I was hearing it was nuts insane we only did do it a few times a year and we're really careful we only pick people that no one's going to miss and the meat has to be healthy close to organic so people who don't smoke aren't physically fit but not complete slobs you know people
in moderate shape people like people like what I asked my pulse quickening people like you my heart skipped like a stone being bounced across a pond skipping until it went too far then sank am I some sort of backup meal for your family is that what this is damn it Paul I waited a year to introduce you to my family because I thought I knew whether you could really take this or not I tried to get a read on whether you would be okay with it or freak out like the rest the rest I pondered
how many people have you brought home I don't know she said it's been a while for obvious vious reasons hell Mabel this isn't happening she grabbed my sleeve look Paul and I earnestly mean this if you don't want to die tonight you need to pretend you saw nothing learned nothing you can call the cops when you leave and Report us but please don't say anything yet okay I was too stunned to reply she leaned forward and kissed me on the lips it was then I realized that deep down maybe she really did care for me
but not enough to keep me from eating human flesh we went back to the dinner table my heart was pounding and my Palms were perspiring but I took my seat again everything okay asked lever I noticed she was holding a carving knife it looked like she'd sliced off more of the meat for everyone we were having seconds of course it's all gravy I said and plastered the stupidest smile I could onto my face love to hear it said Larry why don't you have some more Paul all that work in the restaurant industry must really work
up an appetite I smiled and tried to come up with an excuse but lever handed me a plate full of the human meat splattered with gravy there was a line of blood red cranberry sauce anchoring it to the dish my stomach quivered as I thought about what I'd emptied into the bag of rice in the cellar I tried to hide my discomfort so I screwed my face up in comical exaggeration and patted my stomach you know what I'm really full actually just stuck but it was so good Simply Delicious I HED the clock in the
corner of the room and flashed a smile at Mabel not enti barly sure if she was buying it unbeknownst to Mabel or anyone at the table I had placed a hush 911 call the second I left the basement the police would potentially be there any minute at least I hope they would be if not well it would probably be my first and last time meeting her family I could do this I could buy some time for the guy in the basement and maybe not lose my life in the process there was just one problem I
had no idea what I was going to talk about with her family I was terrible at Small Talk straight dark at it and now my life depended on it so how about them Cowboys I said all in all it was only the second worst Thanksgiving I've ever been a part of I'm also a vegetarian now my one dorm apartment is pretty empty once again during the seasons of turkeys and family no apple pies will be baked for me no uncles or distant relatives from the Far West to come visit hell not even a good drunk
debate on shitty American politics whenever I'm not working retail I'm a driver for Uber Thanksgiving is one of the best days to work delivering because of a good volume of demand and great tips as well I could make upwards of $600 if the stars lined up correctly guess having no family obligations sometimes has its benefits the day was nothing special just a lot of driving at small talk about rich people's family traditions or latest family gossip however it wasn't until I drove to Sher hotel to pick up David that my day took a Twist David
recognized the black 2017 Toyota Camry because he came up to my window once I rolled up is this mrid he asked yes please make yourself comfortable and I'll drive you to your destination I took a look at David A well-dressed and attractive Asian man in his early 30s with glasses most importantly he had a long scar on his right cheek one that I gave him nearly a decade ago mrid is quite a name your parents are major fans of King Arthur I assume ah yes they were obsessed unhealthily with the aruan legend hell my older
sister was named Morgan and my brother was Lancelot wow and these were your legal names not nicknames yeah it's kind of weird introducing myself at school I should change it though I think I want to disassociate iate myself from my family that's unfortunate I've done a lot of research on the Arthurian Mythos mostly due to some strange events in my life David said that was the confirmation I needed to know that David was the reason that I had no one with me anymore at the Thanksgiving table I couldn't have been more than 12 years old
at that Thanksgiving I've tried suppressing the memory of it but it all comes back my father really enjoyed playing the part of King Arthur which is how I think he met my mother it was so ingrained in them that every Thanksgiving the family tradition was become dressed as Arthurian characters if it wasn't for the fact our house was made of bricks you would think it was the Middle Ages all of my uncles and aunts which I had many of came dressed in these strange medieval night suits and would wear masks or helmets to cover their
faces it felt cultish to say the least Beast David I'm sorry if I'm intruding but what strange events are you referring to it's a bit of a coincidence you ask considering it is Thanksgiving as well the events are slightly traumatic so I don't want to mention too much basically one Thanksgiving a bunch of weirdos once kidnapped me and they all spoke in some strange medieval English a bunch of weirdos is the best way I could have described them that Thanksgiving my sister Mr Morgan finally turned 18 it meant she could finally wield the Excalibur in
classic Arthurian fashion our Thanksgiving dinner for many years as I could remember took place on this massive Round Table the table was decorated just like a medieval banquet except we ate Thanksgiving food until 9:00 p.m. after 9 the wielding of the Excalibur started however everyone under 18 had to leave the banquet we could not leave our rooms either not even to go to the bathroom hell they even sent someone to guard our door for many years my sister Morgan and I theorized about what happened downstairs we were young and innocent but how could we have
not known what Horrors truly happened if the loud agonizing scream that occurred during my family's horrific singing didn't give it away then it should have been that putrid smell the day after now I know it was the smell of corpses hell how could the bloody Round Table the day after not have given it away either my sister Morgan once told me she even saw the Excalibur and described it as a huge blade just as the Arthurian Legend told except it was always colored mostly red that Infamous Thanksgiving Morgan would not be joining me in our
room after 900 p.m. just like today's Thanksgiving I was alone and Afraid the wielding of the Excalibur sounded like normal the family would sing weird medieval songs in Latin while someone else would scream I wondered how Morgan was enjoying herself faintly from my door I could hear my father's voice say ready my Morgan for battle you will now ride with the King and slay a disgraced Soul join us the singing continued until I heard a sudden scream from Morgan I won't torture them the silence was deafening all I could hear was my guard leave my
door and head downstairs that was my moment I could see the tradition then all the piercing screaming began no more singing Just shrinking sounds and the sound of a bullet flying I often tell my psychologists that I wish I just stayed in my room however then I would never have met David nor truly known the extent of my family's violent crimes I entered the dining room one which now looked like the Red Wedding the bodies of my extended family along with many stab wounds lied in front of me in the corner sat the corpse of
my sister Morgan she had a bullet wound in her head right next to her was the body of my father with multiple stab wounds I knew it was him because of the crown his hand was next to the gun the one which likely killed Morgan for disobeying his orders I saw three people dressed as medieval peasants still wielding blades and stabbing more of the people dressed as Knights they did not stop until every single one was dead one of the peasants an Asian gentleman with cuts all across his body who had just killed a knight
spoke Michael find the nearest phone and call the police tell them we were abducted by a cult and nearly sacrificed we need all the evidence possible to support our case Mary arm up look for any other of the cult members still hiding how else would a 12-year-old child who just saw his whole family murdered react well I grabbed a blade on the floor and charged for the man slicing his face he was clearly stronger and it did not take him much to put him down at that moment I faced a blade and likely death David
no he's just a child he doesn't understand what these sick did her voice chimed in he has tried to kill me he's probably also indoctrinated or whatever sick these people were doing David said a woman then got in front of me he still has a life to live he can change I promise spare him David we do not need to stoop to the level of these demented idiots a young David HED and put the blade down you're right Mary stuff him in a closet or something so he's not at danger anymore hopefully he gets the
help he needs I spent the rest of that Thanksgiving the first of many alone I could never look at the Arthurian Legend the same way again the many foster homes and child counselors didn't help much either in the present I stopped my car in front of a Suburban Boston home this was David's destination here you go sir Happy Thanksgiving thank you morid I'll make sure to tip you well I watched David walk away and inside the home I could see a warm Thanksgiving meal and comforting family ready to welcome him however he turned around and
ran to my car mrid wait I stopped my car I know times are tough especially in this day and age if you don't have any other plans would you like to join my family and I for Thanksgiving I gladly accepted it would be my first ever Thanksgiving meal with others since that day now I could exact revenge and finally continue my family's tradition of wielding the Excalibur for I am sir mrid the traitor I hate Thanksgiving leftovers every year it's the same thing every Year my wife and I eat Thanksgiving dinner together at our place
next day we go to Robin's for Thanksgiving leftovers Robin is Teresa's Mother Teresa is my wife Robin's never accepted me she doesn't think I'm good enough for Teresa now it would be one thing if Robin had a real reason not to accept me but not good enough just isn't good enough for me I'd rather her hate my hair or the way I dress anything would be better than not good enough yet every year I find myself looking across the table into my mother-in-law's glaring eyes that look of disdain Plain on her face when I put
my hand over Teresa's sometimes I see Robin's lip curl back in disgust it makes me want to do what anyone else would and reach across the table to smack that stupid look off her face yesterday after Teresa and I finished our Thanksgiving meal I sat her down and we had a serious talk I told her I wanted to bond with her mother I told her that the stability of our marriage depended on it Teresa was loving and completely supportive today I drove over to Robin's and we talked for a long time I told Robin to
level with me I told her to tell me what I needed to do to get her approval she sneered down at me and told told me that she would never accept me she told me that I was disgusting and God thought I was disgusting as well something inside me broke then I realized that this woman would never accept us I realized that Robin would never accept me so I did what anyone else would do I punched her in the face she went down hard and her eyes rolled up into the back of her head I
guess I cold cocked her I'd never hit anyone in my life before the pain in my hands surprised me it really stung but I sighed and did what anyone else would do I pulled the pack of razor blades out of my bra and the ballpen hammer out from the waist of my skirt then I did what anyone else would do I slipped a razor blade between each of her teeth and hammered them up into her her gums I'm not sure what I'm going to tell my wife all I know is that I hate Thanksgiving leftovers
