B Indonesia is one of the most popular locations in the world for expats digital Nomads and remote workers and there are many different Visa options out there for you depending on your situation if you are looking to move to Bali or anywhere else in Indonesia but the Visa system in Indonesia is not always that easy to navigate it's not easy to figure out what is the best option for you how does everything work and what does this all mean for your tax situation do you need to pay taxes in Indonesia or not so this video will give you a comprehensive guide on all the Visa options you have in Bali or Indonesia in general as well as tax implications and everything else that you need to know in general there are four broad categories of visas that I have categorized this video into first we're going to have short-term tourist visas so for stays of around 30 to 60 days then we have long-term tourist visas for stage to up to 6 months but that don't technically allow you to work and then we have the new Bali digital Nomad Visa that I'm super excited to talk about as well as longer term visas that allow you to basically live in the country for as long as you want but the conditions are going to be very different for all these different options so let's go through all of them in order first we have the short-term tourist visa this is the Visa that I am currently here in BW with because I'm only staying here for a couple of weeks so if you're only staying in Indonesia for less than 30 days then this is going to be the best option most countries are going to get a visa on arrival of 30 days although I would recommend doing this online before you arrive in the country the fee for it is around 500k rupia I believe and if you do it online it basically allows you to skip the queue where when you arrive at the airport you're going to see a bunch of people queuing to buy this visa on arrival but if you've done it before online you can essentially just go through the smart gates with your passport and Skip all the lines so I highly recommend doing this online beforehand the Visa looks like this and it can be extended for another 30 days while in the country so you can stay up to 60 days and what many people will do is simply use these tourist visas to live in the country for as long as they want and the way they do that is they do something called Visa Run so when your t Visa expires you simply leave the country go to Vietnam for one day and then come back and get another tourist visa but I'm also aware that a lot of these Southeast Asian countries are becoming more strict on this so so you can't guarantee that this is going to work because essentially you are sort of in the gray area you aren supposed to just get multiple tourist visas every single month but this can be an option if you're just starting out and certainly if you've never been to Bali I would highly recommend just coming with this electronic tourist visa checking the place out seeing how you feel and then you can consider one of the other visas if you do indeed like the place in terms of the other visas the first longer term Visa is going to be the long-term tourist visa there's a couple of categories you have single entry tourist visas and multiple entry tourist visas so these visas essentially allow you to stay in the country for 60 days initially and then you can extend them for another 30 days twice so basically these visas in this category will allow you to stay in the country for up to 6 months by the way you can apply for all of the Visas in this video using Bali visas who are the most reputable Visa agency in Bali I got in contact with them and they gave me a couple of referral links so if you use my links I'm going to get a small Kickback that's no extra cost to you if you just look at the details here this is for example the single entry visitor Visa a single entry Visa permits a single entry so when you enter the country and if you leave the country the Visa technically expires the moment that you leave the country but if you want to have Bali as sort of a base and travel around while maintaining this Visa then you're going to want to go for one of the multiple entry options if you look at the conditions here single entry tourist visa single entry business Visa and there's a couple of other options we click on learn more it's a category C1 b211 Visa price is going to be 2. 5 million rupia or priority 4. 5 million and as we can see here it's initially for 60 days and extendable twice meaning you get 180 days maximum Stay Country and with this Visa you can do tourism visit family friends attend meetings blah blah blah but you cannot technically perform paid work now people do still use this Visa probably to do that but technically you can't do it and in terms of of requirements all you really need to show is a personal bank statement showing a minimum equivalent amount of $2,000 and you need to have that amount on your account for the past 3 months so that is all you need to prove to be able to get this Visa so I guess the benefit of this is that it's very easy to get as long as you have this amount you can get these visas and over here we have the multiple entry versions of essentially the same visas it's going to cost 4.
3 million rupia for 1 year and for 2 years 7. 8 million and with these visas you can get another one if you you just leave the country after one of these expires and then come back so you could technically use these as well to just leave in the country for as long as you want but for most people if you are an online entrepreneur remote worker digital Nomad you're probably going to be doing work in the country and with these tourist visas although again people do it you're technically not supposed to do it so the best option for most people to absolutely do everything by the book is going to be the remote worker digital Nomad branded Visa e33 G it's quite a new Visa I believe it was only launched in February of 2024 and this is a Visa that is the same Visa that I will actually be applying for myself if and when I do end up spending extended time in Indonesia in the future because this is essentially exactly designed for remote workers and digital Nomads because it explicitly allows you to work in the country and the best part is that it's valid for full one year and it is renewable at the end of it so this is essentially a residence permit in the country that you can keep extending for as long as you want to live in Indonesia and the condition is that you have to have an employment contract with an overseas company so this Visa does not allow you to work for an Indonesian company and I asked B visas and they confirmed that this can also be your own company so as long as you can provide an employment contract for yourself from your own company that is registered outside of Indonesia you can get this Visa provided that you me the second condition which is that you have a minimum income of $60,000 a year the only thing you cannot do is work or receive any compensation from Indonesia registered companies so for most people this is going to be the best option let's say you run a company registered in the UAE or a US LLC and you just give yourself an employment contract you pay yourself at least $60,000 a year you can get this visa and then extend it every single year but if you want one of the more permanent Visa options to live in Indonesia permanently then this is going to take us to the fourth category of visas in B which is the different kitas options so essentially long-term residence permits in Indonesia you have a couple of options the first one is the second home Visa this is going to be the e33 Visa and it's for a person who will deposit funds in a state-owned bank or purchase property in Indonesia the price is 35 million rupia and the length of day is 5 years so the big Pro is that it is valid for full 5 years so you don't need to keep extending every single year and the conditions are that you can prove living expenses of at least $2,000 and that you're going to deposit funds in an account under the name of yourself at a state-owned bank in Indonesia of at least $130,000 or purchase property in Indonesia with a value of $1 million us another one that has been popular with a lot of people but it's actually a lot more restrictive than many people will tell you is the investor kitas that's essentially for entrepreneurs investing in a business within Indonesia so the investigat is available for foreigners wanting to invest or establish a company in Indonesia price 60 million rupia plus $150 for visa fee is going to be valid for 2 years to allows you to essentially come to the country establish a company do everything related to it but not anything outside of that but the big requirement is that you need to show evidence of a share ownership of at least 10 billion rupia which comes out to around $800,000 or something like that so that's a big requirement for many people that's going to basically make this not an option for you and there's a lot easier options for most entrepreneurs like the digital Nomad visa for example now there's a lot of shady agencies out there apparently who will try to sell you this Visa where they will essentially give like fake documents to the government that yeah you've invested 10 billion I don't recommend doing that I recommend doing everything by the book especially in this case of Indonesia where you do actually have legitimate options for you that are going to work like the remote worker visa or the second home Visa so be careful with what your sold and then there are going to be many other options you're going to have the spousal kitas so if you marry an Indonesian citizen dependent kitas if your parents are Indonesian or many other of these more Niche cases that probably not going to apply to that many people but these are essentially the main options that you have if you're looking to move du Bali now what does this all mean for taxes do you need to pay taxes in Indonesia if so when and if so how much well essentially Indonesia has a pretty simple rule for tax residency which is that if you spend more than 183 days in the country you are considered a tax resident in Indonesia they have a worldwide taxation system so all of your income that you made anywhere in the world is going to be taxable in Indonesia unless there are some double tax treaties if you're a tax resident somewhere else as well many cases like this but basically you're going to pay tax in Indonesia on all of your income if you become a tax resident the tax rates are not particularly low but at the same time they're not at Western levels or anything like that corporate tax rate is 22% and they do have a permanent establishment rules so what that means is that even if you register your company abroad and people are so often confused about this just because your business is registered outside of Indonesia if you as the person who runs the company are tax resident in Indonesia and you actually run that company like you do business with that company from Indonesia that company will be considered an Indonesian company for tax purposes and it will have to pay Indonesian taxes just like any other company so make sure to keep that in mind however in Indonesia there is a small business discount of 50% of your taxes if your total revenue is below 50 billion rupia a year so that's below around $3.
