good day I'm Paul so the brand Cherry they've opened up almost 50 dealerships in Australia already is crazy expansion and this is the second model to arrive it's called the Cherry Tigo 7 Pro and it competes with things like the havl H6 the mg HS it's sort of in that midsize segment but slightly smaller than stuff like a CX5 now this is priced at just under $42,000 driveway if that's too expensive the entire range kicks off at under 40 Grand driveway now if you're doing skip ahead to other parts of this review can use the time codes that are on the screen or if you're on YouTube you can scroll down and use the chapters below and if you haven't done so already subscribe to our Channel and press the Bell icon so you can find out every single time I get attacked by flies Okay so let's talk design so the other Cherry we had driven recently is called the emotive 5 so it's a bit more polarizing in terms of its appearance whereas this is more traditional has a bit more style to it big Cherry logo down the front there you've got these Chrome highlights sort of splattered throughout the grill there camera down the bottom there for the 360 camera these blue sort of Aqua highlights here and then you've also got LED headlights with LED daytime running lights as well we'll whip around to the side here by the way you've got optional colors that are 600 bucks or if you go for the two-tone like you see here that's $1,200 18in alloy wheels so it's a machined finish on the outside there and a graphite finish on the inside a little bit of wheel Arch cladding there as well Grand clearance comes in a little under 200 mm so uh this is available both in front-wheel drive and all wheeel drive so it's not exactly off-road capable especially here in uh front-wheel drive trim indicator built into the wing mirror with a camera there on the side you've got roof rails glass roof there that opens up as well and then come around to the back with me now right the back here you have partial LED tail lights with a strip that runs along the back there and then hallogen in these intersections a 290t badge so in China this is sold with a 2 90 NM uh torque output here it's slightly less uh Tigo 7 Pro there badging and then Cherry along the back here rest of it is all pretty straightforward Shar fin aial up the top there brake light integrated into here with a little bit of that blue Highlight up the top there as well so let me know what you reckon about the design of the Tigo 7 Pro in the comments section below do you like it do you think it could be better do you prefer the emota 5 let me know down there so we're inside the Tigo 7 Pro this is what the key looks like you've got unlock boot lock remote start then on the back you've got the Cherry logo just there uh this is a proximity sensing case you can leave that in your pocket once you're inside you have a push button start just here a look at this this is remarkably good looking for a car that is a little over $40,000 driveway I think they've done a great job here with the presentation of this you got these two big screens ahead of the driver got soft touch materials a bit of this sort of faux carbon up the top there and then these touch sensitive buttons just here all this closes up as well to make it nice and concealed too so it's a pretty impressive looking setup here and it is just amazing how far these cars have come in terms of appearance for the price that you're paying so terms of your touch points uh sort of softish in the center there not too bad on the door as well how soft are they we've got our gometer we've tested the main surfaces in this cabin if you do want to see how this car compares to others that we've tested before have a look at the link in the description below now build quality what's that like it's not too bad there that all feels okay this is what our door slam sounds like now let's talk infotainment so you've got two 12. 3 in displays here one for the infotainment system one for the driver information so this is a touchcreen and it's just driven by the touch screen there are no sort of shortcut modes here specifically for that screen there are a couple of sort of buttons that will get you into different menus in that screen but if you do want to flick between these sections for example you do have to use your fingers on the display now it is interesting um often with these uh cars that come from China they don't actually have inbuilt satellite navigation you have to pair your phone and it's happening with a lot of new cars these days they they save money by not having to have inbuilt satellite navigation and they just run it all through your smartphone system but this actually has inbuilt navigation it's the turbo Dog N uh which is kind of cool and really great system very Snappy and quick does seem like they've gone to a lot of effort here to integrate this and to make it actually just work nice and easily which is really cool to see in addition to that you've got the ability to load pictures into here so you can upload those to the car through USB uh and then in addition to that you also have video and a couple of other sort of bits and pieces map Isa I don't really know what this is I think this is just information on the maps that are loaded into the car but um yeah and then promote software upgrades as well on the radio front you have am and FM radio no dab radio but it is plummed through an 8 speaker Sony branded sound system smartphone mirroring front you have both Apple carplay and Android auto this is what what apple carplay looks like so this is wireless and so is Android auto tiny bit laggy but uh it's cool to see that it is wireless and and come standard and this is what Android auto looks like so again it is a full screen integration there very nice uh tiny tiny bit laggy there as well but really not the end of the world screen ahead of the drive this is pretty cool as well so you can actually change the way this all looks so you can actually adjust the theme so from streamer to fashion and classic and then while you're driving as well you can dive through some of these menus too so plenty of configurability here for the driver to play with now moving on to safety you've got autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection in addition to a junction assistant you've got blind spot monitoring built into that Wing mirror over there rear cross traffic alert you have radar cruise control with a self steering function that we will test a little bit later on you have both front and rear parking sensors and a 360 camera I'll show you what the camera looks like click on that there looks really good so that's the front view that's the top down view uh this is the 3D view a little bit laggy as it's sort of going around there uh but if you then swing across to here actually it is a little bit grainy there but uh the quality isn't too bad so you can see what what it says there on the suitcase so um yeah look it's not a bad setup there and it's good to see that this is all uh just standard and this is what the horn sounds like now let's talk about practicality and we'll start off with your connectivity so you've got a USB a port up the front here USB C Port wireless phone charger just here you've got a 12vt outlet hidden down here as well terms of storing your stuff uh your phone can live up there in the cup holders wherever you want really uh bottle storage let's see how this goes whoops taking the cable with us um it fits fits well you've got uh teeth there to hold it into position got bottle storage in the door as well and then our big bottle let's see how that goes doesn't oh yeah fits you just have to to sort of jam it in there doesn't work well if you have a solid bottle but if you have one of these it's fine now you do have other storage as well so center console here you have plenty of storage there it's nice and deep with air conditioning got storage down the bottom here as well but before I show you the other stuff have a look at this so this is the first time I've ever seen this there's actually a safety Hammer so this has a really sort of uh fine end on it and thieves love to use these they sort of give you window a bit of a jab in the corner there and it shatters the glass nice and easily without making too much of a racket so if you are trapped in the car this is a good way to get out of there it also has a little seat belt cutter built into it as well so really cool little thing and uh something I haven't seen before in any of these cars you've got a glove box down here that is pretty reasonably sized there as well and finally you have a sunglasses holder up the top so Comfort what does it look like so you've got dual zone automatic climate control you've got manual button controls down here or you can do it through the screen uh you've got seat heating for the the front row in addition to that you've also got ionization as well which is pretty cool uh in terms of the the seat Comfort itself it's not too bad the seats are a little bit firm and they lack just the type of adjustment that I would like to see so you can lift the back of the seat but you can't lift the front so it just means you have to dance around a little bit in terms of getting a comfortable seating position but you can adjust the back rest there uh which is all sort of pretty decent and then on the steering front it offers both tilt and reach adjustment on our test all of this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving but you do have to lean in just a little bit to catch the edge of that screen over there okay second row of the 07 Pro uh knee room is pretty good toe room is great head room is excellent as well there is actually a lot of lot of room back here it is funny how some bigger sedans and other SUVs just don't have this much space but this is great uh you've got bottle storage in the door here you pop your bottle in there you've got a center armrest with two cup holders and then you've also got a USB a port down here a little slot there for your phone another little storage slot there actually I did forget to mention there is a hook down the front there as well to hold your shopping and stuff like that map pockets in the back here as well ISO fix points and then three top tether points too most importantly does the window go all the way down and it's Auto up and down as well so close now let's talk cargo space so you've got a power tailgate here in the elite spec so in here you're going to find little over 600 L of cargo space available have a look at this beneath the cargo floor you have a fullsize spare alloy wheel which is really cool to see uh over on the sides you've got hooks and a 12volt outlet show you what it looks like with our bags in there so Lappy bag there suit which is very heavy at the moment um there you go that all fits in really nicely and then if you do want to expand the space a little bit more you can drop the second row once that is out of the way you have little under 1,700 L of cargo space okay so we have hit the road in the Tigo 7 Pro I got to tell you just a couple of things so first up that indicator noise it is annoying uh so is the startup sound sequence which I can't seem to switch off so every time you start the car it plays like this song for you which is very fun and all that sort of stuff but it gets annoying pretty quickly then in addition to that there are a stack of safety things that switch on automatically this is exactly like a Kia where you have to kind of switch it all off before you set off CU it'll end up just annoying you so stuff like uh speed warnings Lane detection all that sort of stuff uh I just kill it all before we set off because it is um it is very frustrating same with this uh distraction warning as well cuz it has a camera just here in front of you that tells you you haven't been watching the road enough even if you have so uh yeah a lot of this stuff is pretty annoying and I'm hoping that they will take this feedback on board and just roll out a software update and remove all this stuff or have the ability to switch it off really quickly instead of having to do this whole dance every single time uh we drive the car and that is what the beeping is that you're going to hear so anyway rant over um let's talk about the Tigo 7 Pro um so this is an interesting setup so this uses a 1. 6 L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine it produces 137 KW of power and 275 newm of torque so this engine in China actually makes 290 newm of torque which is why you see that badge on the back here but it has been detuned here for Australia and requires a 95 Ron minimum premium unlet fuel when you're driving here in Australia um so what does it feel like here behind the wheel that's all made it to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission give it a little stab here it's actually surprising it's not that bad I thought it was going to be significantly worse given this is a sort of decently sized vehicle but it actually feels pretty Punchy it's a similar sort of engine to what you're going to find in the ks Coss GT line the only thing I'm not a huge fan of with these dual clutches because they can be a little bit plastic and laggy uh at low speeds they have programmed this one to be very sharp and downside to that is if you are stationary and then you go for the throttle and you just feed in a little bit too much throttle once it comes once it comes on torque it actually uh spins up the wheels so it is quite eager to get moving and they typically do that with engines that have a little less power in a bigger vehicle they want it to feel a whole lot sportier than it is so that is just something you need to get used to when you're driving uh not the end of the the world but just something to take note of so Cherry claims a combined economy of around 7 L per 100ks uh we are currently sitting on 7.
6 so pretty happy with that uh that includes some sort of faster laps that we did some familiarization driving this morning so that figure isn't actually too bad especially when you consider this is a turbocharged petrol engine so uh on that front it's it's really not that bad at all um one thing I did notice as well you can manually shift gears but there is this quite interesting setup so to to shift gears manually you got to go into manual mode and then you push the lever up and down to shift through your gears it's not a bad idea but then it becomes a little bit confusing getting it back into into drive mode because you don't know whether it sort of successfully works so then if you're in drive and you push it up it will then go to neutral so I think they could have a slightly better sort of system there or even some paddle shifters which would make sort of getting through those gears a little bit easier okay swaave time let's crank the speed up to 130 K an hour and see what this feels like over our sine waves so 130 is the maximum speed limit in Australia and these sine waves are typical of what you're going to find uh in rural Australia and give you a good indication of what the body controls like it's it's it is soft and that means that when you are driving in and around the city it is actually quite comfortable softly sprung it takes uh speed harms potholes really well so from that point of view it's actually it's not too bad but you can see there on the sine WS it does have a little bit of Hang Time there it's not the end of the world but uh I think this could really benefit from a local ride and handling tune like what we've um seen Brands like Kia do in the past I think that works really well it just makes the car feel a little bit more at home but certainly it's not drastically required it would just be a nice to have okie dokie let's go on our rough road so economic mode entered thank you uh this is this road is a bit of a shocker but we do this at 90k an hour to see what the ride is like if you're heading out into the country going for a nice Scenic Drve and look being softly sprung it actually is performing quite well here this is our condensed sine wave see what it's like here yeah it's really not too bad it's sort of all fairly composed there which is good but um as you can hear throughout this whole review there are just so many noises and Bings and bongs and I've switched off most of the stuff I can actually switch off so uh it is pretty frustrating to still hear all this stuff going off so hopefully that's something they can address pretty soon okay so Drve modes you select them here using this little dial uh you've got Eco Sport and uh normal so I'll pop it into sport mode we'll go for a little zip around the track and see what that feels like that actually adjusts steering feel as well then you all right let's see what it's like around here so we test all of the cars around our ride and handling track at higher speeds just to see what they're like as a comparative Benchmark this is actually not doing too bad it's getting along really nicely so it's picking up speed well it's actually surprisingly pretty quick for a 1. 6 L that is that is really good um yeah that ride softness does mean you get a little bit of body roll when you're pushing on but I think most people aren't going to be driving like this so it's not the end of the world it's actually quite surprising for an SUV like this that isn't designed for this type of driving uh to actually be S of nice and capable here especially in front-wheel drive form so you do get spots like that where you get a little bit of a midc corner bump it tends to unsettle the car but it's really not the end of the world so there you go um so fun uh obviously not a sports car but fun to drive at high speeds as well now let's talk visibility so uh it is actually a pretty good seating position I Can See Clearly down the front there uh the wing mirrors are nice and big so I can see clearly down the side of the car good visibility out the back as well so that is all pretty straightforward just on tie noise and uh road noise there is a fair bit that comes into the cabinet highway speeds especially on cour chip roads and so we did test it with our calibrated sound meter if you do want to see how this car compares to others that we've tested before a look at the link in the description below okay so let's test out our semi-autonomous Drving Systems I'm going to set the cruise control to 70 km an hour and then what we'll do is we'll test each of our 3 out of lanes here to see how well it's going to hold itself within the lane cuz this has a semi-autonomous steering system so in the first Lane it's actually doing a pretty decent job and it shows you there on the display that the car is sitting Central to the Lane so we'll jump over to the next Lane and see how that goes okay wait for that to activate there you go that steering wheel's gone green that's pulsed us back into the center there fantastic that is keeping us nice and dead center all right let's jump up to the highest Lane here this is where the cars struggle the most so we'll see if it is willing to hold itself here in this Lane okay steering is active I'll let go of that that is awesome that is actually keeping us there in the lane very few cars are able to achieve that that is such an impressive effort awesome all right well that is that is working really well okay nice so that is good to see um I I will cave at this by saying yes this system is great all that sort of works really well but I don't know it's it is just frustrating that there are a lot of be and Bings and stuff that are just constantly going on here that are highly distracting uh in comparison so I really do hope they can fix some of that stuff with a simple software update okay time to do some performance testing before I do that I want to tell you about help me car expert if you go to Google and type in help me car expert we will be able to hook you up with one of our vetted dealers who have cars like this in stock at the moment ready to go and we are there to get you the best deal give you the best independent advice as well so just go to Google type in help me car expert and we will sort you out so there is no official 02100 time with the tig 7 Pro but we're going to go from zero all the way through to 120 and see uh how it all performs I can't switch traction control off so we're just going to have to see how it all goes so here it [Applause] goes little bit of wheel slip off the line all righty there's 100 and 120 all righty come to a stop and see how that went okay so our 0 to 100 time was 8. 72 seconds so not the fastest in the world so yeah it's it's it's okay uh I'd be curious to see how this performs as an all wheeel drive cuz we did get some slip off the line there and there was no sort of visible way that I could tell to switch off tracktion control so um it would be good to see how much faster this would be with all wheeel Drve 80 to 120 of 5.
61 seconds so again not hugely slow not hugely fast either oky dokie get this up to 100K an hour slam the anchors down here we [Music] go all right let's see how that went so 100 to0 3. 2 7 seconds and 42.
