The new Geely Monjaro 2025 model year is an updated version of the already well-known crossover, which is loved by many for its innovative approach to design and technology. The petrol version of the Geely Monjaro has been present on the Chinese market since 2021, and since its introduction there have been no major changes in the exterior and interior design. However, in 2025 the model underwent improvements.
Although the external changes may seem minor, the new version offers improved performance and increased comfort. There are two petrol versions to choose from - with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, priced at $24,000 and $25,300 respectively. Is Monjaro any better?
It's up to you to decide, and we'll tell you about the main changes and innovations. The updated Geely Monjaro crossover can be easily recognized by its new green body color and enlarged radiator grille. The grille now features a waterfall design with vertical bars and a chrome surround, giving the car a more distinctive look.
Monjaro also has a new logo. Geely indeed frequently updates the emblem, about once a year, but its shape remains recognizable, mainly the color changes - now it is light. From the side, the car's design remains familiar: standard door handles and a smooth roofline.
The exception is the new wheel design, which gives the car a more aggressive look and improves aerodynamics. Two trim levels offer 20-inch wheels with no alternative. The rear of the car has remained virtually unchanged: a large spoiler is installed here, lights that stretch across the entire width of the crossover, and the diffuser is emphasized by a chrome insert.
The crossover is built on the Volvo CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) modular platform, which is known for its reliability and high safety. The dimensions of the car remain the same: length - 4770 mm, width - 1895 mm, height - 1689 mm, and the wheelbase is 2845 mm. With a ground clearance of 210 mm, this crossover is perfect for driving on uneven roads.
The approach and departure angles are 19°. The curb weight of the front-wheel drive version is 1675 kg, and the all-wheel drive version is 1760 kg. Gross weight when fully loaded is 2096 kg for the front-wheel drive version and 2189 kg for the all-wheel drive version.
The 2025 Geely Monjaro is powered by a Volvo 2. 0-liter turbocharged engine producing 238 hp. and 350 Nm of torque.
This engine is one of the best in its class and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for smooth and precise shifting. The car is offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. One of the key features of the Geely Monjaro is the all-wheel drive system with the sixth generation BorgWarner clutch, which significantly improves traction on different types of roads.
The crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7. 7 seconds, and the top speed reaches 215 km/h. The stated average fuel consumption for the front-wheel drive version is 7.
8 l/100 km, for the all-wheel drive version it is 8. 6 l/100 km. An interesting feature is the different volume of the fuel tank: 55 liters for the front-wheel drive version and 62 liters for the all-wheel drive version.
In addition , the car is equipped with new shock absorbers with the CDC adaptive damping system, providing a more comfortable driving experience. Significant changes have taken place in the crossover's interior , which are immediately noticeable. Firstly, the interior received a new color scheme with an emphasis on white tones.
Secondly, the central tunnel has been completely redesigned. It is now equipped with a stylish “crystal” gear shift knob in BMW style. Wood grain inlays add a premium feel, signaling Geely's efforts to move into the higher segment.
The tunnel itself has become minimalistic with a reduced number of physical buttons. The cup holders have moved forward and are now hidden in a special niche, and wireless smartphone charging is located closer to the center armrest. Next to it is a round puck for selecting driving modes, which can also adjust the interior temperature and lighting.
The front console, as before, has three 12. 3-inch screens: for the instrument panel, the multimedia system and the display for the front passenger. Their work is ensured by the company's Galaxy OS operating system and powerful Snapdragon 8155 processor from Qualcomm.
Additionally, the model is equipped with a projection display. The vehicle's equipment has been significantly improved. The driver's seat now has a massage function, and additional speakers are built into the headrests.
The passenger seat has become even more comfortable thanks to electrical adjustment, and the rear seats are heated. The second row of seats can also be adjusted for backrest angle. The interior is complemented by unique details such as the "ORIGINAL IN CHINA" logo and cloud-like decorative elements that add sophistication to the interior.
In addition, there is premium acoustics with additional speakers. Standard glass has been replaced with soundproof windows, which provides better noise reduction. The crossover's luggage space is also impressive: with the rear seats up, the volume is 562 liters, and when folded it increases to 1,532 liters.
The Geely Monjaro 2025 received a prestigious five-star rating in the C-NCAP (Chinese New Car Assessment Program) crash tests, indicating the model’s high level of safety. This achievement demonstrates the manufacturer's comprehensive approach to protecting passengers in various situations. In a frontal collision, the Monjaro performed excellently, absorbing and evenly distributing the force of the impact, significantly reducing the risk of injury.
The crossover also confidently passed the 50% overlap test, confirming the reliability of its design. In addition, the Monjaro is equipped with a number of advanced safety systems, including driver assistance systems, multiple airbags and stability control. The reinforced car body further increases the level of protection, ensuring safety on the road.
The 2025 Geely Monjaro has a strong position in the premium crossover market, but faces stiff competition from models such as the Toyota Highlander, Exeed VX and Mazda CX-9. Despite this, the Monjaro stands out from its competitors thanks to its rich basic equipment at a more affordable price. For example, the Toyota Highlander, having a well-deserved reputation, costs significantly more with comparable characteristics.
In terms of performance, the Geely Monjaro with a 238-horsepower engine does not lag behind its competitors, offering all-wheel drive and improved aerodynamics. However, while the Mazda CX-9 emphasizes sportiness and performance, the Monjaro focuses on comfort and functionality. Since its launch in 2021, the Monjaro has established itself as an important player in the market, thanks to its reliable Volvo platform and engine, spacious interior and competitive price.
However, in a rapidly evolving market, the positioning of the Geely Monjaro as an affordable premium option remains in question. Although it offers decent value for money, it will have to prove that it can compete with the established segment leaders not only on performance, but also on long-term reliability and brand image.
