what's the secret sorts to speaking English like a native well I lived in London all right all right I am not a fraud I promise if you are new here hello my name is Taz and welcome to the channel if you are new here and if you're not new welcome back so why do I speak English like a native is it really because I lived in London do you really have to speak like one to begin with or not let's find out the reasons and maybe a little bit of the way if you want to
speak like a native okay let's start the story don't judge me I want to talk to you like this because it's a long video and I need something fun all right okay what's the story and what's the reason why I speak English like a native because I did live in London well to be honest it's yes and no at the same time I did live in London and I moved there with my family when I was 15 years old and I studied 10th grade there which is year 10 in the UK 10th grade in the
US and when I arrived there I was happy I was proud of my English and I felt like I can speak I'm really good I was already good at school before moving there to London and the truth Hit me hard I did not understand a a lot of the things they were saying and at school as well in my classes I was struggling to understand what the teachers were talking about especially with the um really tough subjects like science and physics and philosophy and maths but this did not stop me from overcoming the problem and
um I know you're going to say oh you were young and of course you overcame the problem because you were exposed to the people around in there but honestly speaking no not exactly you do have to put the effort and you do need to work hard it's not like when you travel you magically start to speak the language of the country it's actually a lot of work so what are the things that I did I'm going to tell you about my struggles I'm going to tell you about the things that I did to work hard
on myself and also when I got back here how did I maintain this language as if we don't practice it's going to disappear okay so what did I really do so the first thing I did was that I tried to sound as natural as possible I tried to speak English as if it is something that is natural to me and not something that I'm forcing myself to speak and I did not try to imitate the accent or um try to sound like the people who are there I just Tred to be me you know like
not make it a super hard effort where like I have to speak like them I have to sound like this no it's just like okay let's speak the language very normally just like what they do I listen I say what I can say and things just go fine so yeah that was the first thing I did and this is the tip that I always give to my students which is do not force yourself to speak with an accent because sometimes we come across as fake if we imitate it and if we try so hard speak
it and like we just sound like we're faking it you know all right the second thing I did was that I maintained English inside and outside what do I mean by that is that I tried my best to keep English as part of my life you know my family are not English and they are Arabic uh native speakers and so going back home of course we had to use Arabic so what I did was that I tried to use English even inside the house because at the time if I used Arabic with my family this
would have meant like 70% of my use of the language and this meant that there is no enough practice for English even though I live in an English-speaking country so I had to maintain the use of English inside the house and also with whoever friends we have even if they are Arabic speakers we had to use English with them and this helped a lot with me speaking English and perfecting it now you probably wonder what I did when I got back to keep the language and how did I keep it as good as it is
now and what you could do as well by yourself now the first thing I did was that I listened listened listened and listened to English and I'm still listening to English because the more you listen the more the language will sound natural to you if you stop the listening you will feel like it's hard you will feel like it's a struggle you will feel like you cannot speaking and you cannot learn it and also not just the listening the speaking I maintained the speaking how did I do that I did it in so many different
ways the first one was find friends who speak English with you and they don't care if they speak it with you and in front of everyone and if everybody stares at you you that was the first thing I did I found friends that I still speak English with until now from my own country not like with exchange programs and everything no my own country friends who speak Arabic like me but they want to improve their English but they and they want someone to speak English with all the time so I speak with them whether since
school or until now now if you don't have those friends and it's hard for you to find someone to practice English with now with AI you have a lot of ways to practice your English you have a lot of apps to practice speaking English so it's not an excuse grab chat J and speak with it and I already talked about this in this video it might be helpful for you and at the time I did not have ai I did not have access to apps to speak English and my friends were helping but also I
was doing the shadowing I was listening a lot and I was repeating what people say I was literally shadowing them and I was literally imitating them so you could do that as well it helps a lot with maintaining the language with staying exposed to English and also with making it sound natural to you so try that I also talked about shadowing in this video if you like to check it out and always remember that you have to listen listen listen listen everywhere when you're sleeping when you're eating when you're driving when you're working out when
you're walking when you're cleaning when you're doing whatever always listen to English trust me is going to make you find it very natural and you're going to remember a lot of things from what you hear and also try to integrate it in your life by texting friends or finding exchange friends if it is hard for you to find someone from your own country so I the end of the day it's not really rocket science you can do it really easily wherever you are on the planet whether you are in an English speaking country or whatever
language speaking country you can Master any language at this time and age so you have no excuse and you cannot say it's ah you sound like a native because you lived in London nope trust me that's not the reason it's because I worked hard yes all right you guys and that is it for today video I think I covered everything if you have any other questions you want to know anything else type them down in the comments and I'll make sure I answer them have a good day
