Right. Okay. Celebrate some waypoint win, shall we?
First off, uh I'd like to congratulate everyone who came to the Hampshire event as all bar one now have actually achieved their waypoint and they have achieved it in a lot less time than all you guys from Mexico. Now, that's not a detriment to you guys from Mexico. It just basically means that uh I've got better at teaching it, which is great from my point of view.
So, it strokes my ego nicely. Um the uh so congratulations to you guys and um Kevin's uh only he's on 79% so it isn't going to be much longer before uh he tops out uh the way point might have to wait a little while until the next run starts but he is he's uh he's clearly on the on target to do it. I'm going to be starting let's celebrate the other way points first.
First off I got to do a special mention before I go to the waypoint chart. Um well I I don't know if I'm going to do that but the uh to Desmond now Desmond has achieved about 131% if we can quite understand exactly what he said and he's achieved it from uh the advantage of uh trading options. Uh and this gives us uh an unfair advantage over the strategy we've taught but congratulations anyway.
So you get a special mention Desmond because you achieved it. But then I want to move to the uh actual chart and let me share my screen because it's a particularly good one. Okay.
So in 103 days right people people average I can't remember what the average was now but oh there you go Desmond I'll put you at the bottom there because I can't include you in everything like because I do not want to take away from Dearan Nicola Wes Chris Johnier Paul Philly Arif everybody who's got um an absolutely amazing achievement that is uh better than I was expecting by far I think the average return is something like 41 or 42% % Colin's going to update me this weekend. So, I'll finish the I'll finish the chart off in the weekend, but I just wanted to go into it for a second and you know, uh say how big a deal this was. Yeah, everybody felt it.
Yeah, it was it was Now, don't get me wrong, the gold market going up was definitely uh uh a big percentage of this. So, we had an outsized gain on this one. So, if you could say that the the gold I mean we were expecting a run at this time of year because it's annually it happens at this time of year sort of thing.
So, that was you you made your gain on that and then you got the extra boost by the gold going crazy at the same time. So, you have to take uh a pinch of salt and probably take a third off of your gain to go well what did I actually achieve here and what you actually achieved is probably 2/3 of what's on the table there. So you actually achieved in about a 100 days about a 30 35% gain as an average.
And obviously you're all different. So u and as you can see it's you know there's some stunning returns here. So who would have thought um uh a farmer from Ireland right who's retired who went on a track round Iraq would end up beating everybody else making 73%.
It's stunning. Absolutely stunning. fantastic return on >> who also struggled with quite a bit of the tech at the beginning as well.
You know, she wasn't familiar with with the stuff. >> So, uh you know, congratulations uh Dearra uh you know biggest gain being the biggest gainer at the end. Well done.
Um but uh you know this is almost unbelievable figures to be honest with you. Uh I mean I was expect I was looking to target getting you all around the 30 to 35% level as you know that being the top level. So to think you over doubled that for some people is is absolutely fantastic.
Um so I just wanted to uh have a chat with everybody because what I would like to do well I'd like to have a chat with Deerra Nicola Wes and Chris if possible if you're all on and u basically have a chat and say what you did. So, everybody else who would like to have gotten uh higher percentages, um I'd like you to listen to, you know, see if you can pick any gems out of what everybody has to say. So, who would like to go first out of you lot?
Who would like to say um how you think you did it? What you did, what you think you may have been doing differently to other people? See if you can help people.
>> I'll go first. Oh, go on. I go for it.
>> Yeah. No, no, you go first, Wes, because you got to leave at 4:30 or something. >> Yeah.
Yeah. Um, yeah. It's weird because I I was thinking about how how I'm going to explain this because I haven't I haven't really done anything and that's that's other than I suppose just sort of rely on intuition.
So then basically I um went through the list and um played some trades and then so I think IO and Heckler and things like that probably the >> All right. Okay. Let me ask you a question.
Let me see if I can give you Let me see if I can provoke an answer out here. Um >> the um you didn't put a huge amount of time into this, did you? >> No, that's that's what I'm trying to say.
So would you say uh could you give us an idea of how much time you've spent on it as an average per week? I mean some weeks you'll probably have done a fair few hours say three or four hours and other weeks you'd have probably done nothing at all. So you know as an average what sort of time would you say you spend you know since you know since two hours a week three hours a week?
Um I think since we started way point 2 most weeks no time at all. Um and then there was either one or two weeks where uh sort of like had an afternoon or morning on it just like what am I doing where perfect answer mate. Uh that's fantastic.
Now I mean the reason I did it I was going to stop the challenge at a hard 90 days. uh so that I could turn around and say look you've just achieved in 25% of a year um you know this this amount of gain in just 25% a year. Uh so I I worked out the the the figures and you know the the the all of you in the top five six are on over 200% peranom return um if if you annualize annualize your figures which is absolutely outstanding.
Now, okay, we're going to have to take off a third of that sort of thing, but it's still 150% return on a trading basis based on the fact that getting in at the right time, getting out at roughly the right time. So, um, how do you feel about that? How do you what would you uh would you say then the best thing you could have done is just choose the right stocks and leave it alone?
Yeah, that's that that's how it felt to me, which is Yeah, I just >> And Wes, can I ask did you choose stocks that had the MACD go crossing up and going up in was that you know, how did you make your initial decisions? >> Uh looked at just went through the list, you know, essentially one at a time, looked at the charts and just little looked a little sexiest. Yeah, it was really there wasn't it was so illogical, unscientific.
It's just like I just and the amounts were as well. It's just like this this whatever felt right uh to put on. >> Yeah.
Did you did you uh did you go all in with positions or did you go 20% position 50%? What did you do? Um yeah, some of them sort of like 2550 and then then after that just put more in sort of thing.
But um >> but did you wait for them to go up or down or did you find that you when they went down you didn't buy anymore or you bought more when they went down? >> I bought more when they went down. That that was I quite enjoyed that.
It's almost >> quite that's that's a that's a successful mindset on trading in itself to be able to actually go ah the thing I've bought has gone down. So you've sort of broken the back of you know because when most people buy when they buy stocks the first thing they do is the buy and then obviously they buy hold and pray stock goes down and then so they wait for it to get back up to the top and then they sell it. So you didn't do that.
You did exactly what I said to do which was buy it you know scale in. Um and when they prices went up, did you buy then? >> Uh I don't I don't remember that I have done actually.
No, >> you really just bought on the down swing. So when it went down, you added more. Uh yeah, but I'd say that was probably uh I know maybe only about 10 or 15% of the portfolio I would do that because I haven't been like like actively really trading that much sort of thing.
So it was only the days when I was that it's like oh okay I'll just have a bit more. I know it's not a good example but like with met one bought a bit more that one and that that one's not worked out but >> met one's a disaster. We don't need to discuss met one.
>> No. Okay. Yeah, it's fine.
>> Okay. Thanks, Wiz. Uh, Nicola.
>> Yeah, I've been thinking about it a lot. Why what I might be doing differently to everyone else. And I think because um there was there's the SIP, which is sort of the main pot, and then with the IBKR account, I didn't really have a very big amount to start with because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do do it.
And then as it started to go up, I had some down weeks obviously, but then I had some up weeks and I started to get a bit more confident. And I think my the two things I do is that I I don't wait for it to go down. I I have a set time to look at these things and I buy or sell at that set time.
So when you said the other day, you know, I think, you know, everyone should get out of this if it goes up a bit, I went and literally did that because it was in my sort of time that I I do these things. I'm trying to, you know, structure my time so I don't spend all my time looking at it because it can get awfully dull looking at charts going not doing anything very fast and I am a bit guilty of that. So I try to make decisions and then execute them.
And I think the other thing I've been doing that other people don't seem to be doing is I take profits quite quickly. So if um especially in the early days when I was trying to lock it in so I would couldn't lose it. I think that was a scarcity thing going on there.
But um as some as soon as something got to 20% or 30% I would either sell the whole lot and put it into something else where the MACD looked a bit more promising or I would take enough shares out to you know take the profit. So I had >> So you were you were capturing the early move the the large percentage of the early move and not not waiting for the next one. So, in other words, because there was an abundance of good companies to buy, you were able to go, >> get in, >> make the quick 20%, get out, get into another one, make another quick 20%, which is a completely different strategy uh than the way Wes uh just did it.
>> Yeah. And I think the reason I did that was because I was scared it would suddenly go drop down and I would lose all the profits that I had. And because I don't really like using stop losses because they always seem to trigger when I don't want them to.
Um I was doing it all manually, but I was only doing it manually in about, you know, half an hour a morning. And then at the weekend, I literally would go through and update my holdings list. And and the other thing I kept quite a tight grip on is what percentage of my portfolio each stock had because I tended to go a bit heavy in the ones I liked at first and then I started trimming them back.
As they went into profit, I started trimming them back to bring them back under 10%. And now I'm actually got most of them under 5%. So I' I'm a lot more spread out now.
As as as my pots got bigger, I've become more spread out because I didn't want to, you know, I I wanted to have that security of having it across a wide number of stocks. >> As I'm talking, I can hear myself saying that a lot of the decisions I made have been made out of scarcity initially, but I'm I'm coming out of that now and I'm feeling much more confident. And um as soon as I started hitting the 3% a week regularly and then 5% a week and then 6% and then I had a couple of 11% weeks which was due to the market but you know it just gave me so much more confidence.
>> So this is quite uh quite amusing that both you and Wes have ended up more or less in the same position. Yeah. Wiz whiz did it from an abundance and you've done it from scarcity.
So which is uh quite amusing how this uh this has uh played out u which is fantastic you know. Yeah. No, it's great.
I mean, I'm totally thoroughly enjoying it. >> Okay. Should we have uh uh Chris, would you like to uh you know, basically browbeat everybody with your fantastic success and tell everybody how you did it?
>> It's a mystery how I did it because um I do very little profit taking. I'm I'm the the casual guy. Like you have rammed conviction so far up my nose that it's like my thought is it's going to go up.
I don't have to do anything. Oh, will I take a profit? No, no, it's going to go up a bit more.
So, I've ended up getting um some pretty good results. I mean, I like currently too, I'm at 45% uh cash because I did what you said, but I didn't follow up. um on taking you know you know on the what was it Tuesday taking the rest out um but just a funny we thing too was those last few days when it was going up this sounds a bit weird but I'm thinking I don't like this it's just going up too fast and I start thinking about what the outcome's going to be for everyone else and it's going to be like there's going to be people in a whole lot of pain we just want it to settle down and just as you said at Mexico Andy we just want it to go up to grind signed up slowly.
Um, and so I'm I've never taken so much off the table as what I did on that Monday. And it was like because I've got um, as most people know, I just You told me Mexico buy the chosen ones. Boom.
And I've just done that, stayed in. So I've got about 64 stocks. Um, and I've hardly taken any profits and I've certainly never gone to cash in the way that I have now.
Um, but one of the things that I would do is that every time whether it's the chosen ones or your weekly update, I would I would buy ones that are cuz I'm I'm right across the board. I've got ones that don't even have the color um right through. I've never just gone for reds and blues, you know, I'm fully invested over the lot.
So, I'd have a bit of a win like that Trilogy Metals when it went up 220%. That would help on a week where other people would just sort of um you know, it was pretty steady and I got a bit of I think it was about a 7% jump and I think Jules was all, you know, also in that. But I'm just like I'm a wee bit like we and that I'm just I'm I go and I'm looking every day but I'm not actually doing a lot because my conviction is well the whole market's going up.
I'm just waiting. There's a big wall of abundance coming my way. So I'll just sit there and you know let it happen.
>> How long would you say you spend actively positioning trading and that sort of thing? Um I'm looking every day but then it because I've got a reasonable amount in um but actually trading itself. Oh, cheapest.
Probably maybe half an hour a week, I'd say. You know that I'm actually on the, you know, well, the other day like selling, it took me half an hour to to sell to get down to 45%. >> Would you say Okay, maybe I'll put it another way then.
When you What about your research? How much research do you do a week? >> Just nothing.
I just I just watch I shouldn't say just nothing because I I read everything you say and I look at you know so I follow up on the chosen ones and I think have I got something here um you know do I need to increase the position? >> You don't go out and watch a lot of the YouTube videos online and that sort of thing. Mike Maloney and all the others.
Yeah, I watch I'll probably watch um maybe two to three videos a day, but but all it's essentially doing is reinforcing that um everything you're saying. And again, >> um you know, when I first saw you in Mexico and I said, "Look, you just tell me what to do because I do, you know, I totally trust you. I know you're going to overd deliver.
Um I just didn't realize you're going to overd deliver in such ridiculous fashion. " Um, but it's like, but by the same token, I also realize I've got to take responsibility for what I'm doing. So, it's like I I I'm not just going to say, "Right, Andy says this, so that's what I'll do.
" Um, but but everything I see, um, all the videos that I watch just continue to reinforce it. It's like Joel said before, I I haven't watched the video with Andy Sheman, but but nothing's changed. I mean I didn't like I took a fair old loss there um what was it 6% one day you know in the was it the Tuesday and I don't like it but then as I said to James in a message I look why I got out too was I look back and I thought where was you know 2 months ago if I'd known I was going to have this you know profit would I be happy and I'd be like absolutely delighted.
So, um I'm staggered by what's, you know, by the amount, you know, the return that I've managed to make. It's just, you know, it it and and you get ah it's well, my wife woke up at what was that? That was about a week ago.
3:00 in the morning, looked at her bullion vault account and just said to me, "This is ridiculous. " You know, and it really is. It's just like it and it's it's surreal the the the percentage increases.
Um it's just you know there's nothing I've never seen anything like this apart from I suppose crypto if you can if you can grab the right you know the right stock but >> we will end up very similar to that in my opinion uh and uh is you know it's it feels like it now but uh we're we're you know even though it's we've done incredibly well this is just the early stages you know this is this is like a uh the opera singer opera singer clearing her throat at the moment you We haven't we haven't really got going yet. You know, it's it doesn't start until uh uh silver's uh free to run after 50 and so it's you know, we're back testing it lovely at the moment and I think we got a little bit more to go, but I'll cover that in a minute. I'd like to ask Deedra to uh come and say a few words if uh she would be so kind as she won the challenge and is currently the leader out of uh out of everybody's return.
>> Yeah. Um hi. Um, so I suppose I did have a very kind of slow and rocky start.
I'm I'm I'm not a techie at all and fair juice to Nicholas. She did give me um you know a lot of time at at the beginning when when we got back. Um so I suppose I was um not disheartened but I was just very slow to kind of um see any results and I kind of ground up you know 1% 2% a week to get to the f in the first way point but the minute I I I topped out on the first way point I thought okay I can do I can do I can do this says do this.
So at that stage then I so what what I've been doing is on a Monday I will I will have looked at your posts over the weekend. Then on a Monday I will look at my stocks and anything that's kind of 15% or more. I put those on a separate list and really they're the only ones I look at that week unless you know I open the trading account.
>> 15% up or 15% down. Dr >> 15% up. 15% up.
Um, and then as soon as it hits 20%, I sell it and then I look at the chart and if the chart is looking good, I'll say to myself, okay, that looks like I might buy again and I'll buy again. So, I've done that, you know, eight or 10 times with some of them. And then some of them, I just don't like the feel of it and I say, "No, no, no.
Go on to something else. going. >> Oh, sorry.
You get it. So, the consciousness side of it is really getting strong, you know, you've really got a lot of that on it. >> Yeah.
Yeah. And also, it was interesting because I was trading when I was traveling and so, you know, I was traveling a lot, so I would have maybe an hour a day when I'd arrived somewhere where I could get onto the internet, have a quick look, maybe sell a few bits, whatever. And then I got into Iraq and I was totally um locked out for three weeks.
And I was kind of peeved for a day or two and then I said, "No, no, the universe is saying to me, sit back, put your feet up. It'll be grand. It'll be grand.
Whatever happens. " And like I came I came back and I think it was TMQ. I made like 14,000 on it the day I traded it, you know, two days after I got back, whatever, the first day I traded.
And I just thought, okay, just take it easy, you know, sit back, enjoy this, appreciate it, you know, just go out in the garden and scream my head off and say amazing. And yeah, I don't know. >> Right.
Okay, let me Right. Let me pull a a bit out of that. >> I'd just like to add um Deedra worked the walked the Camino way first before she did the trekking in Iraq.
though she's pretty much since Mexico been away doing stuff >> which is how it should be. Right. Okay.
Um the what I would say about that is uh there is a a fair percentage of uh in the right place at the right time when uh you were you were locked out of the system. uh as a as a personal example on on the Friday the stocks went down my phone had died uh and you know I get it back tomorrow or something or you know maybe today I don't know but the um I couldn't do anything but fortunately I'd put a load of stop losses in and I'd move them up the day before to the previous uh previous day high sort of thing and so of course when the stops all tumbled uh all of my stops were hit and all of my stops were hit and I was taken Now, the downside of leaving it alone for 3 weeks when we're on a run would be if you hadn't uh managed to put a trailing stop loss on or something like that that that could have caught you there. So, I'd just be careful on on that one in the future.
But other than that, it's fantastic stuff. So, congratulations. Really sincerely congratulations.
