one of the more difficult track and field barriers to break has been the 29-minute barrier in the women's 10,000 M this barrier has stood quite strong for a very long time and if we go back to 2021 we can see this world record almost falling as on June 6th we saw safan Hassan run a time of 2906 and then just 2 days later in the exact same stadium latet G from Ethiopia ran a time of 29 minutes and 1 second this is flying in fact this is fast enough to win many very big International men's
10,000 M races this pace is the overall equivalent of 4 minutes and 40 seconds per mile or 2 minutes and 54 seconds per kilometer so in order to run this fast in the first place you need to be one of the greatest athletes in women's running history and even though many thought that the 29-minute barrier would first be broken on the track by a female Runner that's not exactly what happened because early this season on January 14th in the brutally fast course that is the Valencia 10K we saw a very special type of History go
down for this race we finally saw the 29-minute barrier broken and it was broken by Agnes and git in first place with a time of 28 minutes and 46 seconds this was a massive Improvement on the 10K Road world record however finishing in second was Immaculate anono from Kenya as well who finished in a time of 28 minutes and 57 seconds running under 29 minutes on the roads is just unbelievable and these two athletes getting under 29 really did Shock the World however there is a very real chance that this sub 29 was assisted with
something Beyond just hard work and training because over the past couple of hours we have gotten word that Immaculate an yongo has provisionally been suspended for use of epo and testosterone you know I thought that there was somewhat of a Slowdown with big names being caught for using performance-enhancing drugs in fact in the video that we posted just yesterday I talked about how for the past couple of years it has felt like an avalanche of huge names being taken off of the track and the roads and this non-stop Stampede of athletes that have been caught
or suspended or ban seems to only be continuing now looking back at this sub 29 what's crazy is that this time would have been fast enough to win the 1952 Olympic Games in the 10,000 on the men's side so the amount of improvement that has been seen on both the men's and women's side but specifically the women's side has been absolutely unbelievable but at least for immaculate it does appear as though this sub 29 minute clocking has been assisted with performance-enhancing drugs now this provisional suspension was first listed on September 26th so it was about
a week and a half ago at this point but we haven't seen this update as it often takes about a week for this listing to go through officially for athletes in track and field that receive these provisional suspensions they do have time to appeal their case and get together evidence that can prove their innocence however almost universally they aren't able to prove their innocence there's been a lot of very detailed breakdowns over the past couple of years we've done pretty big breakdowns on them for the past couple of seasons and what I will say is
that the Athletics Integrity unit is incredibly thorough and detailed and they bring in many many doctors and they more or less bring in the people that are necessary in order to look at the actual truth now for Immaculate she is looking at a ban of potentially 4 years that's usually the standard ban if they're found guilty however if they do plead guilty they usually will have their sentence minimized by a year so if 3 years is the ultimate punishment she will be unable to compete until 2027 which will be a year before the Olympic Games
however if she does try to prove her innocence in court and is found guilty still then she will not be able to compete until after the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 now EPO and testosterone are arguably two of the most popular performance-enhancing drugs when it comes to endurance Athletics EPO of course was the very popular drug used by Lance Armstrong in the 9s and testosterone is more or less used universally for just stronger overall performance now a very important aspect of analyzing someone's use of performance-enhancing drugs often comes down to overall progression and how rapidly
they have jumped from a decent Runner to a great Runner to potentially a world record Runner and looking at immaculate's World Athletics progression in the 10,000 M and the 10K does show us a pretty compelling story in 2023 her 10,000 M personal record was 3251 and then in 2024 her 10,000 M PR improved by almost 3 minutes as she ran a time of 30 minutes and 6 seconds on May 25th of 2024 however when we look at her 10K road record improvements this appears to be even more of a significant jump for the past three
seasons Immaculate has jumped from 3350 in 2022 to 30 minutes and 1 second in 2023 and then for 2024 she has run a 2857 this means that she has almost improved by 5 minutes since the 2022 season and these improvements sometimes do happen if an athlete is running much slower such as a 40-minute 10K to 35 but to jump from 3350 down to 2850 is a very very big Improvement however as many comments on my previous video will tell you many many people do use performance-enhancing drugs in the sport of Athletics and it is way
more common than people actually think it's still impossible to tell exactly what the frequency of uses in this great sport sometimes people think that literally everyone does this and sometimes people think that just the vast majority do it I don't think this question will ever be answered as to the overall frequency of people that do use performance- enhancing drugs but for now we do have a huge list of athletes that have been either caught suspended or banned over the past couple of seasons and the newest Athlete on this list unfortunately is immaculate anano from Kenya
who is clearly one of the greatest 10K runners in recent memory but she's also one of the bigger names to be added to this Athletics and unit suspension list and now I really want to hear from all of you on this subject what do you think about this provisional suspension what do you think about her overall progression and what do you think about her innocence or guilt in reference to this recent suspension thanks for watching everyone and as always until next time
