Age of Apocalypse Wolverine returns

so weapons of X-Men is a coming together of the most powerful and deadliest versions of wolver rain across the Multiverse if there is such a thing right Wolverine is wolver rain healing Factor adamantium Claus it goes from there but this story comes off the heels of a one-hot comic that Marvel previously did which we covered you'll find a link to it at the end of this video where basically the villain Onslaught had emerged in an alternate reality and then went into the Multiverse to start conquering universes those of you guys who don't know who Onslaught

is traditionally he is a combination of Xavier and Magneto's Minds essentially and in the main Marvel Universe back during the onslaught Saga he almost wiped out everybody on Earth in this instance he's a combination of genan gray and Magneto but he's equally as powerful and probably deadlier now than he's ever been and so bringing all these wolverin together the first thing we do here is we actually pick up with the Age of Apocalypse version of wolver rain from Earth 295 now unlike guys like Old Man Logan who we'll see later on in this video when

it comes to Age of Apocalypse W reain his reality became what it was because Legion the son of Xavier traveled into the past in order to kill Magneto to make life easier on his father so the X-Men wouldn't have to deal with Magneto Xavier jumped in the way and died and the villain apocalypse took over North America when it came to this version of Wolverine he's missing a hand because he got into a fight with Cyclops he literally cut out cyclops's eye and cyclops blew his hand off and it's just kind of been that way

ever since right he's really one of the cooler characters I don't know if we've covered Age of Apocalypse on this channel if we haven't we should but he's very very dark and very very brooding right but he also had a big time thing going on with Jean Gray but Jean Gray in his reality basically died and so what you do is you learn that not only is it Age of Apocalypse Wolverine it's of course zombie Wolverine from the Marvel Zombies Universe you've got Jane howlet who's really cool a female version of Wolverine not that dissimilar

from x23 but of course the origin stories are very different you've got Old Man Logan and then you have Earth X Wolverine now each one of these guys will get their own origin story in this comic it won't be overly complex it'll be just enough to give you some information and we'll cover that to make it all make sense but they've all been brought together by Jean from the Multiverse right this Phoenix Force version of Gene that was one half of onslaught and the idea was to literally bring them in because when it comes to

Wolverines they're the best there is at what they do right and they have no qualms and no squabbles about going into a universe and killing whoever they have to kill in order to defeat Onslaught because what Onslaught is doing is jumping from one host body to the next and so if they go to a universe and they find Onslaught in the body of like Jean Gray they'll kill Jean if they find Onslaught in the body of Cyclops they'll kill Cyclops it doesn't really matter but of course as we'll find things are a lot more complex

than that and so the first task that they're given is to travel to earth 93068 this is a really really interesting reality ity here because what we end up learning is that in this universe all the heroes and the mutants and villains and the whole nine yards all teamed up together to defeat the threat of the bedon now the bedon in Marvel Comics is just an alien race that exists out there they're really more synonymous with like weapons development than anything else but they're incredibly capable and Incredibly powerful but because all the superheroes and super

villains banded together it actually created a kind of Utopia on Earth the issue is that when these wolverin show up they're immediately detected by The Uncanny Avengers so you've got Jean Gray on this world you've also got her version of Magneto you've got Captain Marvel of course you have Captain America you do have Spider-Man but it's actually Miles Morales it's not Peter Parker but the big concern they have is like who are these guys and where did they come from now when the fight breaks out it happens pretty much exactly as you would expect right

these wolverin doing what they can where they can the best they can against these guys it is cool to see that in every universe that he's in Captain America shield is composed of a material that Wolverine's claws cannot scratch so that's dope now one of the other interesting things here and this is the reason why this comic is so fun there are some inconsistencies and whatnot for example like in the fight against Captain America Old Man Logan pops his claws there's a point later on in the story where he's going to reference the fact that

he never pops his claws that he promis to never pop his claw so again it kind of goes back and forth the comic is fun right it's just good old fashioned fun which I feel like has been missing from Marvel in recent months but again like Magneto steps in because of his ability to control magnetism basically takes these versions of wolver rain out quite readily but it's ultimately Age of Apocalypse wolver rain who steps up and kind of brings everything to an end because what he does is he tells Jean Gray you're a telepath read

our minds and see that we're telling the truth because the whole time like the wol of Reigns are trying to reason with them right they're trying to tell them like we're not here to attack your world or anything like that we're here to deal with a particular threat now of course when Jean reads his mind and then realizes that they are all telling the truth they've been brought together by an alternate reality version of herself in order to save everything then you also get like zombie Wolverine who steps up and zombie Wolverine is more the

comedic relief in this story than anything else all he wants to do is just eat people and even Jean makes this comment where she's like he's thinking about biting me right now right like that's just his character that's just the thing he does and so again like what ends up happening is that all these wolver Reigns are basically taken to The Uncanny Avengers Tower which replaces the traditional Avengers Tower it is cool to see that in this reality The Uncanny Avengers team right The Avengers Unity Squad as it's called in some circumstances that it lives

on because in the main Marvel Universe uncanny Avengers does exist but it's only ever a temporary thing designed to deal with some kind of a threat that it Rose into existence after the events of Avengers versus X-men in order to kind of bridge the rift between the two teams tees and so it's just on to get off again here it's seemingly permanent and so Jean goes into cerebro in order to scan the minds of everybody on Earth in order to see if she can detect Onslaught and so basically all you have left is like Old

Man Logan and Earth X wolver rain and Age of Apocalypse Wolverine who were just kind of hanging out together earthx Wolverine is particularly interesting and I'm curious to see how you guys respond to his character for those of you guys who never saw our videos on Earth X but one of the things that also happens here is that because they're just kind of waiting for an hour or so they kind of have this conversation off panel about like zombie wolver rain and his healing factor in the zombie infection and it's just like the healing Factor

didn't work against the zombie infection it's a little weird Marvel did write a story that seemingly started the zombie Universe where it was basically Army of Darkness and it was like the Necronomicon so in effect the zombies are actually just like deadites right just like demons more or less but still it's it's weird it's it's not overly important it's just one of those fun little things that they threw in there if you understand the reference to what they're talking about but of course Gan gray emerges from all of this and then says like I cannot

detect Onslaught anywhere right like I don't know where this guy is now there is a part of you that's probably saying well that's because Gene's Onslaught that's not true and in fact it's a lot more interesting than that and so what happens is they basically contact Multiverse Gene right and they tell her like Onslaught seemingly isn't here and it's like okay cool like I sing into that world because I was following his psychic Trail and it seemed like he may have went there but it seems like he may have already left and so what you

end up doing is actually switching over to uh Jane right where she's just like at this bar getting drinks with you know a whole bunch of people and so on and so forth and what ends up happening is that as she's here there's these kind of comments and a kind of discussion maybe a little bit of an argument where Jane seemingly comes to the realization that just like something's off here she can't quite put her finger on it but something just seems wrong and so her intention is to contact Multiverse je so they can kind

of dig a little deeper only to find out all these guys are infected by Onslaught right that's why it made him so impossible to detect he wasn't in one person he was in millions of people and so what you end up doing is you basically have all these uncanny Avengers or at least some of the uncanny Avengers because like Colossus and those guys are taking over Spider-Man's not right Spider-Man's just a regular guy but they all kind of come together Onslaught manifests himself and so now it's really just trying to get everybody to safety as

fast as they can because what ends up happening here is that while you do have Earth xw reain who jumps in right you've got like you know Old Man Logan and Age of Apocalypse wolver rain that jump in the reality is that Onslaught has taken over these guys and given the level of power that Onslaught has fighting a war on two fronts with such a small number of forces right I mean they're outnumbered a million to one basically at this point if we're talking ratios that there's no conceivable way they can free everybody from Onslaught

and and then defeat Onslaught or at least push them away they'll be destroyed right just the combined might of all these superpowered beings to say nothing of humans that would send all their Technologies and stuff after them it's a non-starter and so what they end up doing is enacting a plan that what had happen on this world is that in the aftermath of the original War all the magic users gathered together and they ended up creating a series of like Escape portals and if these portals were activated people could pass through them and travel to

another place right to another location B basically another dimension and they could do it by traveling through the Nexus of realities you guys are not going to believe me the Nexus of all realities is located in the Florida Everglades you have to go to the elephant graveyard of the United States where old people go to die in order to access the Multiverse it's kind of nuts right but the fact is most of humanity or at least those humans who are not infected end up making an escape this leads to like basically Jean Gray grabbing these

Wolverines and then blowing the Earth up and like that it right they just like detonated now the other reason why they do this is because in an effort to bolster their forces zombie wolver rain had bit somebody and started the Zombie Plague on this world right and the big thing about this was at least the question was asked because they're all bitten by you surely you can control them right and his response is actually no like I didn't really think about that so not only is onslaught running rampant on this world but like wolver rain

started a zombie apocalypse something to acknowledge here in the span of about 2 hours these Wolverines basically kill the world these guys are inet like it's nuts but the fact is right they obliterate this planet and they move on to the next one which is actually the home world of this Multiverse version of Jing gray herself now here's what's cool about this we get the origin of Earth xwolf rain who has one of the coolest and most interesting origins in Marvel but it's not just Earth X wol rain it's also his reality version of Gan

so this was all part of Earth X Paradise X Universe X right that whole thing that trilogy that came together I think we only ever covered Earth X the idea behind this was that Jean grce story very much mirrored her story in the main Marvel Universe which is to say she became a host for the Phoenix force and all that kind of stuff eventually Jean Gray loses her powers I don't remember the exact details as to why but she just goes forward as a regular person now that goes into the whole earthx continuity but she

ends up basically leaving uh the X-Men once the team disbands after the death of Charles Xavier and basically every telepath on Earth and so she ends up striking up a romantic interest with wol the issue with this is that Wolverine is almost never home and so he's basically working with the X-Men before the team breaks up but once it's disbanded and once it's done he actually ends up going to Miles Warren who is historically a Spider-Man villain right best known for like the clone saga where he clone Peter Parker and different things like that he

basically injects wolver rain with a serum that suppresses his healing Factor and the idea was that it would allow him and Jean to lead some measure of a normal life the issue with this is that Wolverine being powerless mirrors the reality of Gan gray and whether she was willing to admit it or not she was able to live vicariously through him by seeing him go out and fight with the X-Men and so on and so forth so in an effort to make things better Wolverine inadvertently made things worse now this is also Gan just being

unable to cope with her reality and then taking it out and refusing to acknowledge it blaming everybody but herself but the fact is that at the end of the day the two of them end up splitting and going their own separate ways also the suppressed healing factor is why it is that this version of Wolverine gets fat but the bigger point it is strange to see a fat version of wol rain the bigger point is they end up traveling to Earth 8777 and on this reality here I wouldn't go so far as to say that

it's like a happy ending for everybody but for the most part the X-Men just kind of get the ending that you always expected in this particular instance Cyclops never abandoned meline prior and his son Nathan to go back to Jean instead he stayed married to meline and they've been married for quite some time they've got kids of their own specifically like Nathan kind of their child Nathan's getting married wolver rain actually has a whole family unto himself things are not terrible for these guys and they actually work out pretty well which is kind of dope

here it is a little bit of a reminder for earthx wol rain about how you know his life didn't quite turn out the way that he hoped he would right and he literally like turns around and walks away while playing the sad Incredible Hulk music you guys know the song that I'm talking about but again right Jean shows up here she tells everybody what's going on I am hunting for Onslaught I believe that he's arrived here on this earth now the cool thing is that because all these Earths that they're going to have histories that

are in some ways and in a lot of ways identical to the main Marvel Universe they all know who Onslaught is and they all understand the threat that Onslaught poses what is interesting here is that with the help of Ilana Rasputin also known as magic the sister of Colossus who replaced Doctor Strange as the sorcerer Supreme she locates Onslaught in the Savage land now the Savage land is a cool thing that we've never ever seen or heard of in the Marvel Cinematic Universe maybe one day we will but in Marvel Comics The Savage land is

actually down in Antarctica and it is basically a jungle right where you have like dinosaurs and different things like that there's a whole reason how it was created why it exists and it all really is part and part to the beyonders in Marvel Comics we don't need to go into it just know that like it's a cool spot and it'd be dope to see it would make the Marvel Cinematic Universe feel like Land of the Lost for a short amount of time but once they get there and they find Onslaught they realize it's a distraction

that it's not actually Onslaught he's just like standing there on a cliff outside of a cage it's the most obvious fake Onslaught ever in the history of like any ruse that's ever been created by anybody right no way Onslaught is going to show up and just allow himself to to be defeated the cool thing here is that it was all done for the purpose of luring in the sorcerer Supreme Ilana Rasputin and basically incapacitating her and so following that you switch over to what is in effect the kind of you know engagement dinner and everything

that's happening among all the different members of The Summer's family and so on and so forth and while they're all hanging out of course Jean and the X-Men show up on the scene and they start attacking everybody under the idea that meline prior is possessed by on slot now what it does is it makes her look like the crazy ex right just like I used to be married to Cyclops and now you or at least not really married but like with him and then like you hussy home wer have stolen my man right that's what

it that's what it looks like that's how it comes across and so the result of this is that while she is right to a degree in the sense that it's actually Nathan who's possessed by Onslaught and not anybody else the fact is once the fight goes down and everything kind of comes to a close right that like Cyclops steps in refusing to allow these guys to attack his son and so on and so forth everything goes south incredibly fast and fact like this reality's version of wolver rain actually attacks zombie wolver rain almost kills him

but what you end up getting is Earth X wolver rain who realizes that the only way to basically bring this to an end or at least quell this threat to a degree is that while the Phoenix is being choked by Nathan because the goal of onslaught is to take over the body of the Phoenix and then access the multi verse with the full totality of her power it would basically make him God he could just rewrite reality as he sees fit that earthx Wolf Rain slashes off the arm of Nathan which is how this reality's

version of Nathan basically gets the technorganic virus and becomes that character it ends up forcing Onslaught to flee right to abandon the body of Nathan he takes off the day is momentarily saved but basically they kick Jean Gray out right along with the other wolf Reigns they're like you've just destroyed this entire coming together I guess thanks for your help in trying to defeat Onslaught but like you need to go all you do is bring pain and suffering everywhere you go and so as a result of this they all Retreat back to Jean Gray's main

base of operations and that in turn leads to Onslaught arriving on another world now here's the thing this is technically the third issue of the story nothing in this third issue really matters to the story itself outside of the very ending of it that all you end up learning here is that these Wolverines are into this Earth that this is Earth 31974 and on this Earth the goal of onslaught was to basically cast a spell that would make mutants Immortal so that they could reign supreme over this world which kind of tapped into like the

Magneto side of his Persona right to like put mutants at the top of the food chain so to speak the problem with this was that when he was casting a spell the spell was disrupted so when the Wolverines arrive here instead of meeting an onslaught that immediately tries to kill them they meet an onslaught that actually asks for their help now now what you end up learning is that the nature of this spell again was to make people Immortal but to also make them indestructible or at least mutant anyway the result was that when the

spell was cast it was interrupted by three individuals who we'll talk about here in a second what it meant is that every mutant and every human on earth was now indestructible but they could still feel pain so they were just kind of locked in this eternal suffering right in their reality now what we end up learning is the trio that did this was Dracula Seline and a guy whose name I can't pronounce but is basically taken over the body of ulyses Bloodstone in effect a vampire Trio and the three of them did this because with

Humanity being or really everybody being Immortal but still being able to feel pain they could effectively just Feast on them for all eternity right just like an endless supply of blood basically it's a very very thin plot and storyline that goes on here if you don't know who Seline Dracula and ulyses Bloodstone are it's not a great big huge deal right it doesn't matter to the plot so you can largely ignore this of course the Wolverine show up they basically defeat these guys done and done doesn't really matter what does matter here is that in

the aftermath of this that basically Onslaught shows up and strikes a deal with him or at least seems to strike a deal and saying like you have helped me so I will help you right I will leave you alone in the midst of all of this or at least for now anyway right we basically have a truce you stay away I stay away I won't come after you and I won't try to kill you but while that's happening he's actually speaking telepathically to Old Man Logan and what he tells him essentially is I know the

reality that you come from now for those of you guys who don't know about the reality of Old Man Logan it's actually the best origin story for wol rain that's ever existed in the history of Marvel Comics The Story of Old Man Logan was that basically Red Skull had United all the villains against all the superheroes but what he had done is he had sat down and analyzed the different superheroes and realized there were some villains that could be better used against other superheroes so like Mysterio fighting Spider-Man is a waste because Spider-Man has a

Spider Sense he can always figure out what Mysterio is plotting and what the illusion is but what would happen if you used Mysterio to manipulate the five senses of wolverin he relies on those incredibly heavily and that's exactly what happens that under the direction of the Red Skull Mysterio arrives to the X-Men mansion and then tricks wol reain into to believing that the X-Men are actually villains and so wolver rain Slaughters all of the villains but when the illusion clears it turns out he'd actually killed all the X-Men it was great it was a phenomenal

story in Marvel I absolutely loved Old Man Logan but the fact is onslaught makes him a deal and says if you take out these other wol of Reigns I will send you to the past of your own reality and you can stop yourself from killing the X-Men in fact you could stop everything you could kill the Red Skull before he ever orchestrates his plan you could save your universe and because the biggest regret of Old Man Logan is killing the X-Men and really by way of his actions helping to allow the villains to take over

the entirety of North America if not the world it's just too strong of an opportunity for him to ignore and so he takes all the other wolver Reigns out he doesn't kill him and this is where I talk about that inconsistency right like he promised not to pop his claws he hadn't done it for like 50 years so basically they're all incapacitated but again and doesn't quite fit in with him popping his claws earlier in the story but he basically knocks all these guys out is really what it is I mean don't misunderstand he trashes

these guys and to a degree it makes sense Old Man Logan is basically older than all these other Wolverines as you can tell from his physical appearance meaning he has more fighting experience than they all do he's a much heavier hitter than any of these other versions of Wolverine and so what isend up happening is he basically throws these kinds of cuffs on these wolverin it basically blocks from being able to use their adamantium claws and so that's when Onslaught arrives on the scene and kind of taunts zombie wol rain a little bit now the

zombie wolver rain is actually going to be incredibly important in this part of the story and it's really really fun right it's really really amazing here because when the statements made like when he asks like what did Onslaught offer you right to like send you back in time so you don't kill your friends and like when Old Man Logan doesn't say anything the response of zombie Wolverine is like dude no way you fell for for that don't you think if onslot could have gone back in time already he already would have like why would he

be jumping from one Universe to the next if he could just go back in time and take the Phoenix force from Gan before she ever becomes the Phoenix that we know like dude surely you thought of this and even Onslaught comments on that but it's like it's a full-on Emperor Palpatine Anakin Skywalker story right like no I can't do it right now but together we could when I get the power of the Phoenix we could right it's like full on you know uh I can't do it myself Anakin but together we can unlock the secret

right it's kind of funny right it's really really cool the way that it happens but also onslaughts incredibly ingenious here because what he does is he tells Logan you need to call Gan gray to us right like call Gan gray here and Old Man Logan is just like dude she's going to figure out what's happening as soon as she gets here and the response of onslaught is wrong she'll sense something as a Miss because she can't read anybody's thoughts then she will see me the villain that she seeks standing before her clearly blocking her powers

she will find everything she expects until she doesn't now summon her and that's exactly what Old Man Logan does Gan arrives on the scene and it plays out exactly the way that you would expect and then Old Man Logan stabs her in the back and the response the question she ask is like why would you do this and that's where onslaughts like it doesn't matter right like what's important now is I will finally have the power that I've been seeking and given the power that you have and the weakened state that you are in it'll

be so easy to strip it away from you right it's the one thing that I've been shooting for the cool thing is he also gives her an alternative what he says here is that if you and I engage in a real fight yes I will overcome you yes I will take your power but it'll lay waste to this world instead you can give me your power and I will spare this world and she asked the question why should I care about this world and he says look around you scan your mind out into the world

and see this is a world of Happy Endings everybody got the ending they wanted everything worked out perfectly for everyone do you really want to obliterate this Earth in its entirety and the response of Jean is okay then I will sacrifice myself to you I will give you this power the other part of this and this is one of the cool references that goes on out there is Old Man Logan makes a statement it's the best deal that you and us could possibly get give up the Phoenix force and Onslaught promises that he'll only screw

with the bad universes first the cancerverse the Zombie World the cancerverse is particularly interesting because the cancerverse was a universe where they basically killed mistress death and it allowed the beings of like schuma gorath what are called the mini angled ones to basically seep into that reality through doctor strange and take control of everything so yes everybody is Immortal but they're also like these demonic slaves it's really cool they killed Galactus and turned them into the Galactus engine that was in a story called The Thanos imperative we covered that we've covered everything on this channel

Jesus but I guess when you're doing this for like a decade kind of makes sense right but the bigger point is onslaught will not come for them first and so what happens is zombie Wolverine actually starts chewing through the Cuffs of these different wolver rains and essentially freeze them and then a fight breaks out where it's like Old Man Logan against all these other versions of wolver rain all at the same time and that's when you see how capable this guy is right like earthx wolver rain is the first one to fall he gets thrown

into zombie wolver rain Jean steps up she never had a chance in the first place she doesn't have adamantium she has bone claws Wolverine breaks those with the greatest of ease then it comes down to him an Age of Apocalypse wolver rain and this is dope because Age of Apocalypse wolver rain pops his claws in his severed hand which I'm pretty sure he's done before I'm sure it's not the first time he's ever done it but like as they're fighting each other one of the things to know is while this fight does get cut short

they would kill each other they would absolutely Slaughter each other because they are the most brutal versions of Wolverine in Marvel Comics it's amazing like it's just one of the coolest things that you're ever going to see if these guys actually fought to the death I would love to see that story the kicker about all this is the fight is ended by Onslaught and this is when I say this is like the most fun story but with super fun stories also come handwavy endings because what goes on here is that because Onslaught is basically the

result of Gan gray and Magneto merging into one another what he says is there is no need for this what have I done and it's like what in the world's going on here the response of onslaught is this aspect of the Phoenix Force spent decades with Gan gray saving life loving and being loved what I've been doing it was all out of fear and pain can you ever forgive me because in effect the Phoenix portion that was bonded to Jee became part and partial to Gene it's kind of like the inverse of the dark Phoenix

Saga right that when Gan gray first became the dark Phoenix the Phoenix was experiencing all these crazy human emotions for the very first time anger loss grief things like that and it drove the dark Phoenix insane and so here because the Phoenix had spent so much time with Jean it's become part and parcel to like love and compassion and all that kind of stuff it literally became a Care Bear and so because of that it basically reworks and reforms Onslaught into into a being of like pure love and pure compassion the result of this is

that It ultimately takes off into the ether it is in effect the Phoenix right it says I wish I could return your power Gene gray but this Phoenix it's willing it's eager it wants to explore the cosmos the Multiverse and I think I do too and so basically it takes off right now this is incredibly important because if Marvel considers this story to be in continuity what it means is that we now have a new white Phoenix of the crown a new Phoenix Force entity that exists out there it can come back at any point

in time and do anything and it's cool now whether or not that'll play out we don't fully know but because the threat of onslaught has basically been quelled if only momentarily that like everybody goes back home right that like Old Man Logan just kind of explores things with genan gray because he doesn't really want to go back to his universe or at least he doesn't really have to that Earth X Wolverine goes back to his reality because he basically makes amends with and the two of them start building a life together again zombie Wolverine is

sent to Earth 91 where everybody's man things basically it's a world of plant life there's no flesh to Feast on but again it's a fun story man it's not some overly complex plot just good oldfashioned comic book storytelling and that's why these are kind of like out there in the middle of nowhere limited series are usually so enjoyable so with that being said guys we're going to bring this video to an end let me know what you think down in the comment section and I will catch you all later peace
