50 BEST Travel Tips (10 years of Travel)

I'm going to share with you the juiciest travel tips on the internet and these have come from my 10 years of traveling around the world if you leave this video you will live with immense regret and have no friends okay maybe that's a stretch but your travels will suck hi I'm Christian and I've traveled to maybe around a 100 countries Greta definitely hates my guts and I could write a novel with all the travel mistakes I've made and that's why I want to help you avoid them that's where I'll show you how you can travel

the world and never pay another baggage overage in your life again so let's get right into it cuz I've got 50 of them and being a YouTuber of course I've left the best one all the way at the end sorry not sorry I've been sitting on this video for about a year but I think the perfect starting point is with this one right here you're going to want to pick up some sticky notes and I'll show you why how many times have you traveled and you get to the immigration office and they go right in

the center of your passport completely ruining a page and the Department of Homeland Security gave zero FS when they stamped that one this right here is your solution put down sticky notes inside your passport so you know that the immigration officer isn't just randomly looking for a page and inside here you can write please do not stamp that way they'll go to the nearest available page and you can even guide them and say please stamp to the side that way you're not going to run through these in an instant and at the very least by

sectioning off four pages you're guaranteed you can enter any country some countries have a minimum page requirement to get in the next up when you go to make a transaction how many times have have you seen that prompt would you like to pay in the local currency or in your hometown currency always choose local currency if you're in Bali pay an IDR if you're in Dubai pay an AED if you choose your hometown currency you are going to be paying a Savage conversion rate to the ATM machine you're better off paying the transaction fee to

your hometown Bank than that random little payment processor in the coffee shop in medene my next tip is don't overtravel maybe you've got 2 months of vacation maybe you just took a whole 6 months off to go see the world I know the urge to try to check as many countries off the list but I guarantee you you will have a less satisfying experience I've met so many Travelers that by the time they hit country number five all they wish is that they had stayed put in the second or third country the Swedish travels are

not where you're just checking boxes it's where you're growing deep with a destination pick the destinations that are most important and get to know them well next up you're going to want to know how to get the most of your phone when you're traveling because if you were traveling from country to Country setting up your sim card is aain my 101 is make sure your phone is unlocked and then from there some countries have international SIM cards I use T-Mobile it's about 25 bucks a month it's terribly slow when I'm traveling but it at least

means that no matter where I am my whatsapps can come through my emails can open if I'm at immigrations I can open up my booking information it's saved me a lot of times and one last option although it is more expensive than setting up a local SIM card 9 out of 10 times esims have become a big thing over the last 2 years and I will say they're really handy my next tip always always clap when the plane lands the pilot is expecting it and everyone around you will love you for doing it next up

how do you kill time when you're traveling well I love YouTube premium it enables me to download some of my favorite podcasts shows that I want to watch maybe you could download some of mine and by extension of YouTube premium Spotify is great I download podcasts there as well and I've got my entire playlist ready to roll and if you want to groove with me check out lost in the sauce for my playlist back over to my phone when you're traveling you're going to be connecting to all sorts of different Wi-Fi it does leave you

exposed so set up twostep authentication in all of your apps everything that's important set it up even if you're not traveling and when you do use an authenticator app to be able to give the second step of verification this is saved me so many times because when I take out my hometown SIM card then I can't receive the OTP the onetime password but with an authenticator app on your phone you don't need internet you don't need cell coverage and you don't even need the SIM card to be in your phone next up this isn't sponsored

missed my flight I am unfortunately grabbed the wrong bag turns out I'm not the only one with a blue suitcase in this exact shape and model I I was that guy they had the exact same bag model the same color and I took it all the way to my friend's apartment and I opened the bag then realized that ain't my stuff my dresses aren't nearly as beautiful because of all this I knew I needed to do the right thing I needed to get that bag back to the airport and unfortunately the way things worked out

it meant I would also be missing my flight and all of that could have been avoided if I had just put a unique identifi on my bag it could be a piece of duct tape it could be a bag tag in a bright flamboyant color it could be anything that screams this is my bag not your bag I highly recommend doing it next audible is an amazing platform I love downloading books I'm always listening to books on how I can expand my knowledge in business personal development so downloading some of these and having them offline

on my phone has been really fantastic haven't read a book in a while but I've definitely listened to a few and I do that with audible next did you know that most hotels large hotels are actually throttling your internet when I go stay at a Marriott a Hilton a bigname brand or any large hotel that has more than 10 rooms I go to the front desk and I ask them to give me more bandwidth I tell them hey I'm working on something really important I've got a special presentation I'm trying to upload a video could

you please give me more bandwidth and seven times out of 10 they say yes and I often haven't had to pay for it when you're traveling you're out actively making some of your greatest memories and that makes those photos and videos really valuable and so I have been a huge fan of Google photos it backs up my entire camera roll at the end of every day when I'm connected to Wi-Fi and of course iCloud can do that too but I've had bad experiences with iCloud and I've had wonderful experiences with Google photos and I love

that it ties into your Google Drive account so if you pay for storage there you're getting storage into Google photos as well too and what I love about Google photos is I can actually search for a photo by putting in a prompt show me photos of a beach show me photos of my passport you have no idea how many times that prompt has been helpful when I'm checking into a hotel I go to Google photos search it boom this product just recently came into my life and it is gamechanging I've had a lot of sleep

masks I've been in a lot of hotels that have terrible curtains horrible sleeping conditions this has solved every problem I think you could think of in terms of a sleep mask it has a perfect cup seal that puts zero pressure on my eyes blocks out all the light better than any blackout curtain ever could and one of the things I thought would be a little bit of a gimmick but has turned out to be Sensational is this I can adjust these micro little speakers that allow me to listen to White Noise music and I can

good sleep on your Long Hall flights your travel days or in your loud hotel room where things didn't go quite to plan for my next tip I give you the almighty pen I know it's so simple but how many times have I been caught at immigration looking around for a pen and they either don't have any cuz they all got ripped off the chains or there's no ink I have lost hours in Lines Just hunting for pens and so get one of those little tiny guys Stow them away somewhere in your suitcase it will be

snacks when I'm organized enough to do so some nuts some fruits something that won't spoil and go bad quickly but can be with me on a long haul flight on a long travel day I'm probably having at least one meal but if I can cut out One it makes a huge difference all that salt preservatives it definitely doesn't play nice with your stomach and it makes you feel just as bad as the jet leg next up this may sound stupid but hey I'm supposed to be the Travel Pro and when I was traveling from London

to India a few months back to go to a wedding Ruby and I forgot to research the Visas we got to the airport and well we realized last second and yes you better believe we missed that flight and we missed the day of the wedding sorry about that isan and Veronica luckily Indian weddings are 3 days and we still made it and had an incredible time another tip is that this thing right here your average drone is actually not permitted in many different countries especially in the Middle East so what I like to do is

I get a really small one and just put it up in well just plan ahead that's what I'm trying to say here when it comes to street food I got a little slogan for you if it's moving you're grooving if it's sitting you'll be that's all you need to know the next up is Google reviews are actually really lit this is how Ruby and I do a lot of our planning we will literally scan what's in a walking distance of ourselves and just click on random pins you'll find those 4.8 those 4.9 and even those

4.7 and nine times out of 10 the reviews are highly accurate and give us a really good understanding of actually what's worth going to and one last thing I'll add on that is that we actually do a lot of our planning within that plat form creating a pin list for Bangkok for Barcelona for pretty much anywhere we go You' think this video is sponsored by Google but it's just genuinely helpful as a traveler two things that you should have available offline is a Google Maps to the region you're traveling and also you can have Google

translate available in a specific language made available offline so if you are a gringo like me and you don't speak Spanish then save the Spanish language on your phone have it available so if you get into a pinch well you got to way out this next one can hurt there are some very sneaky policies in Airline luggage sometimes when you're flying International with an airline they'll allow you to pay 25 bucks for a new bag but when you're flying in a slightly different network with the exact same airline now you can add an extra bag

and they'll charge you $25 per kilo I've been in some nasty situations luckily my tip at the end will help you get out of those but a single extra bag that I assumed would be 25 bucks could have cost me $500 to even $11,000 Airlines if you're listening That ain't cool I already mentioned it but this is single-handedly one of my favorite travel products it's basically in my pocket throughout every part of every day airpods are awesome overall Great Sound and the noise cancellation amazing let me know if this is you you get to your

destination and you got a charge at the end of the day and you've got five Chargers five different types of cables and one massive headache one of the things I've been proactively doing is investing in just one charge type it might cost a little bit in the short run but to know that everything is running with USBC is incredible piece of mind if you can have one cable replace out the rest you'll be a lot happier as if the cable situation wasn't bad enough this next tip is that you got to get yourself an international

travel adapter when you go from the UK to Bali or even from the UK to France you're going to be in that situation where you can't charge you definitely want to pick up at least a couple of these before you leave next up is a Hydro Flask I would say I've lost three or four of them so I have one good tip for you I have recently changed mine to bright colors if it makes it a lot harder to leave behind and not only does it help me stay hydrated on travel days it also helps

me cut out a lot of plastic water bottles which a cause more litter but B have a lot of micr plastics inside especially the ones that have been sitting out in the sun for hours and hours some of these water bottles I've drank from have basically been falling apart having a good Hydro Flask is definitely a good investment in your health this Topic's come up a few times because we're basically going to war with the airlines right now this right here is a way to weigh your suitcase simply wrap this around around your handle and

now you can actually get a fairly accurate reading of how many pounds or kilog your entire suitcase is that way when you're headed to your flight you have peace of mind and know that you're not going to have to be that person that opens up your suitcase in the middle of the line while everybody's anxious to get in looking at you being like you're that person next up one of my favorite tips I don't even feel good sharing this because what if you're on my flight you better not try this on me get on the

plane last at least when you're in economy by getting on the plane last it allows me to be the vulture I basically look around for those spare window seats those three seaters and if the airline Gods align with me then that day I pretend that that's my seat and I will sit right there but not on the window seat not on the aisle seat I'll sit right in the middle seat and I'll wait for takeoff because then no other vultures are going to try to take the left side or the right side at least not

likely I try to make that seat look as uninteresting as possible and a lot of the times it has enabled me to get that full full three-seater and have a business class experience all the way in the back of the plane credit cards and travel insurance one of the best things about using a credit card is that some of them have travel insurance and so if something goes wrong on the road to that item you might be fully protected or at least get some of your money back so remember how I told you about that

overzealous traveler that's trying to check every country off the Box well by extension of that one of my best tips is try to be a flexible Fiona come into your trip with time come into your trip with moments that aren't fully planned out one of the best things you can do as a traveler is to allow your travels to happen to you instead of trying to control where it takes you I love going into my trip with just knowing the day I arrive the day I leave sometimes I don't even know that and treating it

times things can go wrong and you want to have fallback plans maybe take it even a step further maybe there's certain accounts that you're okay with giving access to to your loved ones knowing that if ever something went really wrong they could try to trace your steps and figure out what you were up to last my next tip is nine times out of 10 Sunrise is a good idea when you get up nice and early it might feel rough in those opening moments but once you get your coffee and get to the destination that is

the best time to see the best of it with Incredible lighting and without the crowds especially as a photographer and in my case as a filmmaker now most of my flights look like this feeling like a sardine packaged away inside an aluminum tube flying through the sky but every now and then I get a little bougie with it and one of the ways I've been able to save thousands of dollars on my business class flights is using using a service that my mentor shared with me it was gamechanging because I was now able to afford

business class seats where I never afforded them before the downside is you actually have to talk to somebody to get the ticket you can't just book it like Google flights and sometimes the prices haven't actually been better on those days I just fly the usual way but in other cases I have gotten oneway businesses for $1,000 to even $1,200 and with where I'm at that makes all the inconveniences well worth it if you want these same business deals that I've been using then just go ahead and contact them there there I'll also have it linked

Down Below in all of my travels I have been very fortunate I haven't had too many escalations uncomfortable situations moments that almost became physical but there have been a couple and I can share with you one of my greatest tips that in those moments I did not take the physical approach instead I filmed everything go figure the vlogger filming everything but this is probably the number one thing you can do and I'll tell you why when you're in a foreign country many times the laws and the rules and the Judgment of what happened will not

be act in your favor but luckily one thing that's more objective than He Said She Said is What was filmed so turn on your widest angle lens and try to capture the conflict try to capture the moments where things are not going well it doesn't always have to be violent or aggressive it could just be where things are starting to go self it could be a scam it could be a taxi driver that's not taking you the right direction filming these moments can be very helpful because in the event things do have to be brought

to an authority you're going to want something that has no bias and that's the video you captured by the way to Felipe I miss you bro some say he's still looking for my ticket right now I need your ticket you're not getting my ticket man Airbnb or hotel well my rule is basically 1 to two days I'll usually do in a hotel it ends up being cheaper that way because of airbnb's crazy cleaning fees if it's 3 days plus then it can go either way hotel or Airbnb there are some exceptions to the rule but

that's my soft rule my next tip get a awesome travel hoodie even if you're travel traveling to the tropics you might end up in the coldest bus ride of your life and that hoodie is basically your nomadic bed throw in a man's sleep mask and you are going to be having a cozy Cruise no matter where you go but one of the underrated features of a hoodie is that front pocket during times where I have overweight baggage I am shoving things that are heavy inside those pockets and it has saved me a lot of different

times but I'll tell you more on how to take that even a step further my next tip is travel with an old piece of ID one that's expired and is no longer important whether you're renting a scooter and you need to give a piece of ID or whether things are going bad and somebody's trying to hold on to who you are giving them one of your expired IDs is a way to ensure you're not just handing over control to someone you don't know and trust maybe you're returning the scooter in the exact same condition it

was but they tell you you caused that scratch maybe you drop off the scooter and they straight up lost your ID you want to be in a position where you can just walk away so handing over your expired ID while you hold on to the real one is a great way to do that another safety tip is you're going to want to carry on you a little extra Reserve USD from unexpected to unfortunate moments you might just need that cash flow to get you out of a tricky place keep anywhere from 100 to ideally upwards

of $500 on you at all times next avoid ATMs that aren't inside of a bank anything that's sitting outside in a sketchy Alleyway has a lot of chances of being tampered with in fact it happened to me back in my early travel days one of my debit cards was skimmed and every day they were withdrawing hundreds of dollars as a broke Backpacker one of the biggest panics of my life was seeing my whole account had been drained luckily my Canadian bank took care of me but that might not be the case for every traveler be

really careful because every ATM you use increases chances of things going wrong my next tip was particularly helpful during the European Airline strike I had an air tag inside one of my suitcases and every day I was calling to the airline they were telling me they had no idea where my bag was I was able to tell them I know exactly where the bag is this situation was incredibly drawn out it took me almost 4 days to get the bag back despite that but without that air tag I might never have seen that suitcase ever

again from theft to Lost Goods I got to give it to Apple it's a great product all right I'm going to show you how I have never paid for any luggage overage except one time 999 times out of a th000 it works let's head over we just landed in Abu Dhabi another successful flight without paying a single overage even though I almost have double what I'm actually allowed so I'm going to share with you my go-to strategy this is the Big Kahuna but frankly there's no real way to get around this they weigh this bag

every time if it's 20 kg that's all we can manage maybe we squeeze an extra couple kg they let us get away with it this is my carryon and this is the bag that most likely won't get weighed but what if they do that's where you need a fallback strategy this is my personal item and inside my personal item 95% of the time they do not weigh this item it's very rare when they do it and this is where all my heaviest densest things go batteries lenses camera gear everything that's just really really heavy it

goes in here so we max out our weight here we max out our weight in our personal item anything else that's left over starts to go into the carryon and one last little area is the MERS my man purse or my little tiny shoulder bag and this is where I keep my most valuable things things I want to have on me like my pass sport quick and easy access to my boarding pass is so helpful to have it and when all goes to my go-to strategy while Ruby's currently wearing it have a hoodie if you

drew the Short Straw you got the cranky lady working behind the desk what you're going to want to have is a sweater with big Deep Pockets I start cramming lenses batteries everything that's dense and heavy inside my pockets then from there sweatpants there's two lenses in each of here do I look ridiculous of course do I save a lot of money do this of course when things get bad you get creative but honestly my number one tip is that personal item load it up and then after that start putting the heaviest stuff inside your carry-on

now one other thing that I think has helped me finesse my way for quite some time now is when I get to the checkin counter typically I am trying to hide my carryon I don't even want it to draw attention I use my bigger suitcase to kind of hide it and I immediately push this thing behind the checkin counter so it's out of sight out of mind we have a nice little light conversation with whoever is running the check-in counter and with my personal item this thing is heavy but I will never pick it up

in front of them and if I do I'm doing my strongest arm to make it look like it is weighing nothing I usually single strap it even though it's like literally 15 kg I I try to act like it's nothing I guess it's working now because I love you I'm going to give you a bonus tip avoid the word bomb in the airport and for more great tips on how to stay at a jail and have an epic time on thead Road subscribe to Los lablanc now I have actually left out a lot of valuable
