so Sony just released the new a six to six hundred and the new a 6100 and the big question is should you upgrade from your other a6000 series cameras I mean we also have two new lenses so the 16 250 572 350 and you know us we took some pictures and videos with this so we'll take a look at that and let you know we think [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so I think the big question that everyone had is where these cameras actually fit into Sony's lineup and here's where things get a little bit interesting
so the 6600 is basically an upgrade from the a 6500 where we're adding a Sony's newest generation of autofocus technology to that camera and then also the same kind of body with a flip screen as a 6400 but Sony's not stopping there they're also beefing things up so you do have some additional weather sealing on that camera and then you also have a bigger grip on it which is much appreciated you have a headphone out and then you also have that larger battery which is amazing so now you can shoot all day long and so
overall it's a pretty big upgrade on that camera the 6100 kind of replaces the 6000 but again with Sony's newer body style from the a 6400 and then again you're getting to Sony's most current generation of autofocus a couple missing things like you don't have all of the custom functionality that Sony offers on most of their camera so they're pulling a few things from there but you still the same image quality you still have the same autofocus performance and speed and so overall it's just a really solid camera and kind of unifying their lineup all
to just 2019 specs so overall build quality we have an improvement over the a 6400 we have a larger grip which makes way for a larger battery which means you don't have to card along all those extra batteries like you do with the a 6100 now with the a 6600 we have a magnesium alloy body and great weather sealing we actually had to test that out yesterday because we were in the rain in New York City but overall did amazing and we have the plastic body plastic composite body with the a 6100 with the smaller
grip and again you have to have the smaller batteries so you want a card along a couple extra my battery died did die fairly quickly as I was shooting models but as long as you bring a couple extra batteries you'll be fine the 6100 is also going to have just a little bit lower grade body all-around and then also a little bit lower quality viewfinder so just a couple of things being pulled here in there you're also gonna lose that headphone jack just keep that in mind but overall it's still a solid performer so image
quality wise we have 24 megapixel sensor and this is from previous cameras like the a 6400 in the other H 6000 series now good news is is that this sensor it's a great performer you know great dynamic range and it's wonderful in low-light performance there is no wrong capability yet so I wasn't able to look at the raw files but the JPEGs coming out of this are great we have sony coloring still honestly sony cameras do very very well with this type of sensor now while this autofocus system that's now on the a 6600 and
6100 is nothing really new for sony let's back up a bit here because it's still by far the most amazing and intelligent system on the market today seriously you will not find better in any other camera system it's incredibly fast the eye autofocus works better than any other system in existence it's at least a generation or two ahead of everyone else so well sometimes we talk about other cameras and we're like their autofocus system is good enough we were still getting images this on these two cameras is by far much better on the feature side
of things I mean there's nothing a whole lot new here that we haven't seen before and other Sony cameras but don't dismiss it just because of that because we're still seeing some amazing specs on this 11 frames per second nothing to laugh at there that's incredibly fast and then I never actually filled the buffer on this camera so while it's not UHS 2 card slots I shot a lot of high speed at the full frame rate and never actually fill that buffer and shooting in RAW less JPEG so it's very admire belen performance and I
think you'll enjoy it a lot [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so of course we're talking video and from a video perspective it's exactly what you would expect from Sony so we're getting 4k up to 30 frames per second 1080p up to 120 frames per second if you drop that to 60 frames per second you still get to hang on to all those amazing Sony autofocus modes inside the video and then on the 6600 you have that additional I oughta focus in video as well as that headphone jack and again that bigger battery
is really gonna help you out a lot also keep in mind a lot of your custom functions and pics your profile stuff like that is only going to be in the sixty six hundred so just keep that in mind but overall both of them are going to be very solid performance in the video Department if you want to shoot video I'd highly recommend the 6600 just because it is gonna get you things like image stabilization and things like that additionally you have an upgraded viewfinder which is really nice to see just like Sony's past cameras
we do have a small crop as you get into 4k 30 frames per second which is not on the 24 frames per second again it's pretty mild but it's something to note so if you do a lot of like vlogging wide-angle lens and you want to shoot 30 frames per second do keep in mind it will have a slight crop on there another benefit to bringing all these current specs to these cameras is that you no longer have the video record limits so that is gone you can shoot almost endlessly with this camera battery life
is gonna be your main issue eventually maybe overheating but we've shot for a long time on these cameras and we've never actually exhausted the shooting overall there's a few upgrades there but it's just a solid performer all-around for video the same thing we've been used to on other cameras and just a couple extra boosts in some specs here and there so I do have to say Sony does do a great job with the custom function buttons I love that it is so customizable and then adding more of those in really did improve the camera for
me now I do have to say I don't necessarily still like the Sony body when it comes to ergonomics we have you know my hands falling off of it and I know a lot of people complain about that so I would say that is the negative effect for these particular camera bodies that said especially with the a 6600 which kind of their flagship camera the overall controls still lack quite a bit I mean we don't have a front dial which is one of the most frustrating aspects of his camera to me as a manual shooter
joystick would be nice to be able to control our AF points I still find the EVF placement to be just a bit lacking and the quality compared to some others I mean in many ways the a 6600 just doesn't feel like a flagship aps-c camera from Sony and those controls are just so limiting for a higher-end camera like this instead it's just it's more of a minor refresh of the ACE 6500 adding in much of their recent autofocus improvements a newer battery but at $1,400 I mean Sony's up against some real competition from Fuji 63
even some full-frame cameras like the eos RP and 60 mark ii and even an powerful DSLR sports and wildlife cameras like Nikon's d 500 so i do want to talk about these lenses a little bit not a full interview here but let's mention it because this is really one of the big reasons to buy camera is for the lens lineup and we're seeing some great new options from sony i'll be added some pretty high prices here so my favorite is the 16 to 55 I've been looking for this lines for a long time solid F
2.8 zoom really a must-have for aps-c unfortunately it's a little pricey at $1,400 so it kind of makes me wonder on who this kit might be for with a 6600 and this lens which is an amazing kit you're going to be looking at $2,800 that is not cheap in fact you can actually get like a Sony a7 3 and some lens options for that for less money than that so it is a heavy upgrade but it's great to see a lens like this I hope that price drops really quickly I doubt it will though also
no image stabilization in the lens however it is boosting a lot of high technology from Sunnis upper and line up like linear Focus Motors for super fast autofocus technology and then overall just a solid feel to it performs well we do have a custom function button and an AF button on there no like manual aperture rings or anything like that again not too needed and then we also have a custom dial on the front so overall a great lens just maybe a little high on the price and then also we have a 70 to 350
millimeter lens again a solid performer all around it was tacked sharp no matter what I threw out it was amazing another great autofocus performer a little bit more reasonable the price and you're gonna have to sacrifice the aperture on this because it will have a little bit higher of an aperture but it's a good lens it's great to see a solid range like that we solid image quality so if you're out in good light like we are right now you can absolutely use that lens and get some amazing images from it I think for this
time it's more about kind of unifying the range so we're getting all of the features that Sony has come out with in the last couple of years are now available in the a 6100 the 6400 and now the 6600 so basically no matter what camera you choose you're getting all that current tech and I think now you can basically look at the three cameras and decide which one's the best for you knowing that all three contain that and then just have some little differentiating factors from them so thank you guys so much for watching I
