in today's video I'm going to clarify one of the most common doubts among Christians is drinking a sin and if I drink moderately can I do it or am I displeasing God so I'll show you based on the Old Testament and the New Testament and I'm sure that by the end of this video you'll have a concrete opinion on this matter all right I say this because when I converted 15 years ago when Jesus came into my life I understood that Believers should not drink but I didn't have a clear answer to give people many
people would ask me so does that mean you don't drink anymore because people outside think that the only thing a Christian stops doing is drinking and going to parties they believe that this is all it takes to obey God so I would answer no I don't drink anymore because I no longer feel the desire to but I didn't know how to respond in depth that's why I'm sure this video will help you a lot all right if you haven't yet subscribed to my channel cck click Below on subscribe so you can receive my upcoming videos
and a bell symbol will appear next to it click on it too so you can receive notifications directly on your phone all right so a few days ago a young man asked me the following Pastor in Ephesians chapter 5 it says that we shouldn't get drunk but does that mean I can drink moderately then I answered him that passage is in Ephesians 5:8 do not get drunk on wine which leads to debauchery instead be filled with the spirit I want to make something very clear in the Bible there is no verse that prohibits the consumption
of alcoholic beverages what the Bible does is warn us against drunkenness and that verse says we shouldn't get drunk on wine because it leads to debauchery that is a person who gets drunk does things they wouldn't normally do they abuse the freedom God gave them and we must be very careful the Bible teaches us to be wise and Vigilant so we don't fall into temptation so drinking can be the gateway to many other sins understood so be very careful now I'm going to share with you three verses from the Old Testament and then I'll read
a passage from the New Testament so you can clearly understand that drunkenness is condemned and forbidden by God all right the first one is in Proverbs 20:1 wine is a mocker and beer a brawler whoever is Led astray by them is not wise here it says we shouldn't let ourselves be dominated by alcohol it's not saying that drinking is a sin but that it's very dangerous the verse says that wine is a mocker and beer causes quarrels surely you've heard stories of people who drank too much and cause trouble right people who fell on the
street made a scene I even heard sadly the story of a pastor who died of therosis that's right he knew the word of God but started drinking because he was going through struggles and before he knew it he was completely dominant ated by alcohol we must understand something alcohol is dangerous this verse doesn't say it's a sin but it does say it's dangerous and we shouldn't let it dominate us all right I'll read another passage that is in Proverbs 21:1 17 whoever loves pleasure will become poor whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be
rich here we see that the warning is for those who love alcohol too much as I mentioned earlier it's not saying it's a sin but it is dangerous to love alcohol excessively because you can end up facing many difficulties this verse says that whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich it's interesting to note that wine and oil are mentioned at the same level this means the following if you love Earthly Pleasures too much your life will become impoverished that's what this verse wants to convey because oil is related to food and wine
to drink that is Earthly Pleasures can lead to a ruined life life if we're not careful I'll read another verse that is in Proverbs 23: 20 and 21 do not join those who drink too much wine or Gorge themselves on meat for drunkards and Glutton become poor and drowsiness clothes them in rags notice that again the warning is for those who drink or eat in excess this is a sin drunkenness and gluttony so that story some people tell that Christians don't drink but overeat is wrong I've already talked about this several times the Bible condemns
gluttony and drunkenness all right here we see that drunkards and Glutton will become poor it's not talking about a person who drinks moderately who has a drink on the weekend or with their family it's not saying that understood so don't rush to respond it's better to draw your own conclusions now I'm going to show you some passages from the Old Testament that show that wine also brings Joy did you know that in the Bible wine represents Joy I'm going to read for you the passage in Ecclesiastes 9:7 go eat your food with gladness and drink
your wine with a joyful heart for God has already approved what you do this verse shows that wine is described as a Divine reward as a reward for the good deeds you've done I'll also read another passage in Ecclesiastes 10: 19 a feast is made for laughter wine makes life Merry and money is the answer for everything in the New Testament we also find that Jesus turned water into wine as recounted in the wedding at Kaa furthermore at the Last Supper it's very likely that Jesus drank wine I'm going to show you the passage that
is in Matthew chap 26 veres 27 to 29 then he took a cup and when he had given thanks he gave it to them saying drink from it all of you this is my blood of the Covenant which is poured out for many for the Forgiveness of sins I tell tell you I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my father's Kingdom notice that Jesus mentions he would no longer drink from the fruit of the vine that is wine but
everything indicates that he drank it during the supper now the question arises what's wrong with that the wine of that time is not the same as today's wine the wine back then didn't have as much alcohol moreover it was common for people to drink wine because the water at that time didn't have the treatment we have today there was no basic sanitation as we know it today that's why many people preferred to drink wine as it was less likely to be contaminated with viruses or bacteria so we can't say that the wine of that time
wasn't fermented it wouldn't be correct to claim that but we also can't say that the wine of that time was the same as the wine we have today all right what is certain is that the wine of that time had much less alcohol than the current wine a passage I also want to share is in 1 Timothy 5: 23 when the Apostle Paul advises Timothy stop drinking only water and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses this shows that at no point does the Bible forbid the consumption of wine and
now surely many might be saying glory to God so I can drink with peace of mind can I open a can of beer and drink as much as I want but here's another point there are limits we must obey I often say that true freedom is not doing whatever we want but living within the limits established by God for example in the Garden of Eden God placed limits on Adam and Eve you may enjoy everything but you must not touch this tree in the Old Testament there were many limits and in the New Testament there
are limits as well the first limit I want to show you about Christian freedom is in 1 Corinthians 8: 9-13 be careful however that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak for if someone with a weak conscience sees you with all your knowledge eating in an Idol's Temple won't that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to Idols so this weak brother or sister for whom Christ died is destroyed by your knowledge when you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience you sin against
Christ therefore if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin I will never eat meat again so that I will not cause them to fall notice that although there is freedom we must be careful not to become a stumbling block to others perhaps you've come to the conclusion I can drink a little wine I just shouldn't get drunk I can have a beer but only a little however if you do this in front of someone weak in faith that person might think if this person is drinking then I can too the
problem is that you may have self-control but that person might not therefore you are sinning by causing that person to go astray that person may lose their spiritual balance and the Bible says that God has given us a spirit of moderation a spirit of balance but that other person may not have it the same applies to non-believers if you're at a bar or restaurant and someone knows you're a Christian seeing you drink they might think so and so is drinking but they're a Christian in our country the culture is that those who drink are of
the world and those who follow God's word don't drink therefore if you drink publicly you're wrong because this might even hinder many people's conversion I want to make it clear that the freedom God gives us is limited by love love for others you shouldn't want to harm either non-believers or those who are part of the family of Faith you shouldn't harm anyone so the advice I give you is be careful not to give a bad testimony think about what people will say that idea of no one has anything to do with my life is not
correct we must use our freedom with moderation wisdom and most importantly love for others the second important point is knowing your limits I want to share with you a passage that is in 1 Corinthians 6:12 I have the right to do anything you say but not everything is beneficial I have the right to do anything but I will not be Mastered by anything there are people who drink a little beer and lose control others after just one sip feel the desire to use drugs think improper thoughts or give in to bad impulses therefore be very
careful that nothing dominates you because if something enslaves you it means you're sinning Jesus set us free and the word says in Galatians chapter 5:1 it is for Freedom that Christ has set us free stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery so if you know that a glass of wine or a beer might lead you to sin it's better to stay away flee from any occasion that might make you fall into temptation all right pay close attention to how you manage your spiritual life because it's the
most important thing we must not get drunk but rather be filled with the Holy Spirit be intoxicated with the things of God seek more of his presence and you'll always be sober so as not to be deceived by the devil or stray from God's presence all right I hope this message was meaningful to you if it was share it and subscribe to my channel may God bless you a big hug
