in the 2024 New York City Grand Prix we had one of the more interesting track and field meetings so far this season not only were many of the world's best athletes and most talented professionals set to race on the track but we also had some of the strangest occurrences ever go down so far this season in both the men's 100 and the men's 200 M Fred Curley and then Josephus ly actually had their starting blocks slide underneath them upon starting their respective events which meant that they weren't actually anchored incorrectly into the track and this
not only kept them from a secure race it was also something that made a potential injury possible this was quite unfortunate to see because it delayed both competitions by about 10 to 15 minutes and we also had multiple volunteers running back and forth on the track bringing new blocks to the start this was far from ideal for a worldclass meeting and I understand that it was no one's intent for something like this to happen but it does leave the athlet with less confidence upon starting and ultimately it probably took away a little bit from their
performances but starting block difficulties aside this race had so many solid performances for many worldclass Runners but the one performance that most agreed upon was the race of the day was the women's 400 m featuring none other than Sydney McLaughlin levrone now it's important to mention that mclin levrone has not run a single 400 met Dash since July of 2023 meaning that it has almost been a full year since her last one laap event however the time that she has had away from this particular sprinting discipline played little to no role at all on this
day because McLaughlin absolutely threw down a crazy 400 m right from the gun she separated herself as the absolute class of this field and coming down the home stretch her lead was absolutely insane now keep in mind that this field included various talented athletes that have broken 50 seconds for the 400 m which is a very difficult barrier to break in the women's 400 so you'd think that someone would be within a second or a second and a half but mlac levrone still won this race by more than two entire seconds as she finished first
in 48.75 seconds which funnily enough is just 0.01 seconds away from her personal record in 2023 the fact that mlac and levrone could so casually drop a sub 49 is just wild and even though this will possibly be Sydney's only 400 met Dash this year this time would still be placed as a top 10 alltime performance finishing just slightly ahead of marady palino's 48.7 six and for this performance this actually earned Pino a world championship gold in 2023 so right now mclin literally is in World Championship gold medal shape and this amazing clocking brings up
a few key points from the minds of many one will City mclin exclusively focus on the 400 meter hurdles this year in the Olympics which is originally what she and her coach said she was going to do about a month ago and two if she does in fact double in two events will the other event in fact be the 400 meters mlin has just proven time and time again to be an absolute baller when the stakes are at their highest and if we look at the Olympic Games schedule this season this double with the 400
and the 400 hurdles might actually be possible on August 4th we have the 400 hurdles opening round on August 5th we have the first round for the 400 m on August 6th on August 6th we have the semi-finals and the 400 meter hurdles and for the open 400 the semis are on August 7th and then for the finals we have the 400 hurdles on August 8th and the 400 m on August 9th this would mean that from August 4th through the 9th a stretch of six races in six consecutive days mlin would literally be lacing
up every single day for a race so technically it is possible as there is enough time between races to rest and reather her strength but this would still be a huge challenge but honestly if anyone in the world could do it I think it has to be Sydney McLaughlin because when she runs through rounds she knows how to Pace she knows how to run a controlled time and I think a 400 meter gold and a 400 hurdles gold would have to cement her as one of the greatest track and field athletes of all time right
now mlin is ranked number one in the world in both the 400 hurdles and the open 400 and even though her 400 hurdles World lead was very impressive a few weeks ago at the Edwin Moses Classic this open 400 of 48.75 currently scores slightly higher than her 400 hurdles opener as this new time in the open 400 scores a total of 1,256 points now it is also worth mentioning that there was a decent amount of wind gusting on this day and so potentially this slowed her down ever so slightly over the final 100 m but
no matter what the conditions were this really was a sensational clocking from Sydney mlau and levrone thanks for watching everyone and as always until next time for
