[Music] hello there my name is Tyler Griffin and this is scripture study insights by scripture Central today ether chapters 6- 11 now these are some heavy chapters and often they'll get skipped by people because it feels like a repeat pattern of people rejecting the prophets being destroyed repenting and then being blessed again only to repeat that Pride cycle over and over and over again and keep in mind from chapter 6 through 11 we are actually going to encapsulate H every single one of those 30 people mentioned in ether chapter 1 all the way from Jared
at the very beginning of the jaredite story all the way to Ether who gets introduced at the tail end of chapter 11 so all 30 of those Generations are going to be at least mentioned and the stories of 28 of those individuals not Jared not ether but 28 of the 30 are going to be described and uh developed in chapters 6- 11 and since this can sometimes be a little bit confusing as far as timeline as far as location I want to begin with a quick overview of the land of the jaredites what we call
the Nephites call the land desolation it's in the land northward so to make sense of this we'll pull up our our little map I feel like a weatherman whenever we do this we'll have a a high pressure system moving in here so the jaredites arrive in the land northward sometime in Noah's dispensation roughly speaking somewhere around 2350 G 2330 BC and the Tower of Babel falls into his dispensation so we'll just put a a very rough estimate of 2200 BC when they arrive so now to help you see how the jedes fit in with the
timeline of the lamanites and Nephites and mikit for that matter keep in mind Lehi left Jerusalem 600 BC spent 8 years wandering in the wilderness 592 they build the ship and about a year later they arrive so roughly 591 we're to make the math a little easier we're going to put 590 BC they arrive in the land of the first inheritance and then they live here in the land of Nephi Nephi and his followers lived there for about 400 years so in about 200 BC is when King mosiah I takes the group and they migrate
and find the mikit in the land of zarahemla and there a stone is brought to him that he interprets and it has the record of this Fallen people and it tells about one quaner who lived among the people of the mikit for nine moons it says so and that would have been a the same time frame sometime around 200 BC so you get the idea that for 2,000 years from 2200 BC to 2 200 BC you get the jedes living up in the land northward which the Nephites are going to call desolation because of the
many bones and the civilization that had been destroyed that they find records of including the 24 jedite plates they get translated into what we now have as our book of ether thanks to Moroni doing that editorial uh work for us the point here being that you have a huge civilization That Grew over 2,000 years and probably did some spreading and migrating now the story of the jaredites ends kind of like the story of the Nephites ends that nation is destroyed but it's possible that there's been a lot of migration and a lot of spread of
of many of the the people in those various civilizations including you'll see little little signs that there there are remnants jedite remnants in other parts of the nephite record let me show you what I mean if you go to chapter 7 for instance it gives you a couple of names here in verse three and four listen to this it came to pass that he also begat kib in his old age and it came to pass that kib reigned in his stad and kib begat Kore now this is kahore spelled with a c rather than a
k like the kahore in Elma Chapter 30 so we're not suggesting that there's any connection between this kahore and the kahore in Chapter 30 of Elma because they would be separated by by nearly 2,000 years the point is is that Kor seems to be a jedite name look at this next verse and when Kor was 32 years old he rebelled against his father and went over and dwelt in the land of neor neor is a jedite name now again we're not suggesting that this neor is directly connected to neor in Elma chapter 1 it's just
an interesting note to make that there are some potential carryovers or crossovers between the culture of the jaredites and the teachings of the jaredites and keep in mind what nior and what kahor are teaching could very easily be connected to some of these apostate jedite doctrines that are causing so many problems in chapters 6 through 11 so you can see that there's there's potential crossover between the this incredible 2,000 plus year history of the jedite story with the the nephite and lonite Nations keeping in mind that cor aner again wasn't discovered until 200 BC which
means that the jedit are still living over here for at least nearly 400 years from the time that Lehi and his group arrived just in a different part up in the land north word and how much crossover and connection is there between the two groups we don't know so with that quick overview let's jump into now what we can learn the the teachings some of the doctrin some of the principles that we might be able to learn from a section in the Book of Mormon that quite frankly feels very um depressing very down because there's
so much struggle going on in these chapters let's begin in chapter 6 where they're still over in the old world this is the chapter where they cross the Great Waters they come across the ocean to the new world and Moroni tells you in verse one now I Moroni proceed to give the record of Jared and his brother so we jump back into the narrative and he says for it came to pass that the Lord had prepared the stones which the brother of Jared had carried up into the mount and the brother of Jared came down
out of the mount and he put forth the stones into the vessels which were prepared one in each end thereof and behold they did give light unto the vessels now there's a critical phrase in there it says after the Lord had prepared the stones most of you would think wait I thought it was the brother of Jared who did most of the preparation of the stones and the reality is is the brother of Jared fashioned them he formed them out of the ore melting it down and creating the the stones themselves but it's the Lord
who prepares them for their ultimate purpose and their ultimate Mission if you will to give light in the vessels by touching them with his finger so it's it's this beautiful principle from last week's set of scriptures about principles of of how to better receive and recognize and act on Revelation here it's important to note that the Lord helps us grow through the process of time and it's probably not a smooth path it's probably here a little there a little line upon line precept upon precept he finds us where we are and then he stretches us
to the next level he doesn't it's it's an x + one principle not an X plus 10 or an x times a th000 he finds you where you are and then he gives you opportunities to stretch your f Faith to build your trust in him and to grow your capacity to act and to make decisions and to use your agency again if the brother of Jared had been less capable God probably wouldn't have given him the jumping off point of you decide what you want me to do about your light problem perhaps God would have
started by giving him a few more step-by-step instructions before then giving a jumping off point for instance he could say go climb to the top of that mountain over there and start digging through the ore and just think about what you might do to ask me to solve your problem of light and if he was further down the the capacity of of Revelation and action then perhaps God would have given him very specific step-by-step instructions to go to the top of that mountain dig out this kind of or this is what it looks like this
is what you're going to find bring bring it down to your camp and build a very hot fire and a Bellows and then look at the ore and look at the fire and you tell me what you want me to do about your light problem or if he's even further down the capacity slope from that perhaps God would have given him step-by-step instructions of how to build the the fire and how to find the ore and how to melt down the ore and how to even fashion stones and he could have then said so once
you've done that then figure out what you want me to do the point being that getting light in the vessels was secondary to activating a disciple in the process of becoming who he was born to become you are God's end goal it's not the tasks that we're working on those are means to to the ultimate end of God bringing to pass your immortality and eternal life of helping you you and me to grow up to become more like him that's his end goal and so he uses all of these things in your church callings in
your family settings in your career educational settings whatever it may be those are all just means to this end of of shaping us and where needed God tells tells us don't worry about it I'll take care of that other times he gives us step-by-step instructions and sometimes as we grow in our capacity increases his opportunity to be able to say you think about it and you come up with a plan and you present it to me what you want me to do about this issue and so life becomes this incredibly Rich experience of becoming as
God works with us and shapes us line upon line precept upon precept X plus one at each phase giving us this chance to to move forward and so the brother of Jared passed that test he's now got the stones in both ends of all the barges and it says and thus the Lord God caused stones to shine in darkness to give light unto men women and children that they might not cross the Great Waters in darkness so if we're looking at this whole story at as a metaphor for the Plan of Salvation and for our
journey through that plan then in essence we are looking at a symbolic representation of the Covenant path and there are parts of this Covenant path that are on dry land and there are parts that are over a deep ocean where it might be difficult but God through that Covenant if we've entered into a covenant relationship with him we're safely enfolded in that barge tight like unto a dish then we have the light of his gospel to guide us on that on that journey and notice it says they got into the vessels or barges and set
forth into the sea commending themselves unto the Lord their God anytime you Embark in a new aspect of life you can apply chapter six whether it's go on a mission get married have a child go to school start a new career start treatments with a new medical condition that's been diagnosed whatever there there are a million ways to apply these principles but the point is it's not doing things it's not getting a degree it's not filling time in a calling or serving days on a calendar for a mission until we can come home it's about
building a connection of faith and trust and covenantal uh loyalty with Jesus Christ and with heavenly father that's the end goal all these other things that we engage in those are the means so now you see the end here they commended themselves unto the Lord their God so as you embark on anything in life if we keep our focus on I'm not just doing this task to check a box I'm doing this task because it's going to bring me closer to God it's going to take me out of a comfort zone for sure but I'm
going to increase my faith and I'm going to have tests of my faith along the way and I'm going to commend myself to God to say help me help me to become who I need to become through the process of this and you would expect okay well if they're committing themselves to God then all of a sudden their life is going to get really easy and God is just going to prosper them because that's the promise if you keep the Commandments you'll Prosper on the land in this case they're not on the land they're in
the water but the point being just because we commend ourselves to God because we enter into a covenant relationship with him doesn't promise US smooth easy clear sailing look at verse five it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a furious wind blow upon the face of the water time out most of us would say wait wait a minute why not just create a a gentle yet steady Breeze that's just very pleasant create create a bit of a a little tidal wave that just drives those eight barges across the ocean
at a steady clip that won't cause anyone to get seasick or disoriented or have any difficulty at all no God sent Furious winds to blow and it says they were tossed upon the waves of the sea before the wind and then he says in verse six and it came to pass that they were many times buried in the depths of the sea because of the mountain waves which break broke upon them and also the great and terrible tempests which were caused by the fierceness of the wind here's the point as long as they will stay
in the barge those Mountain and waves those Furious winds can't destroy them they will be delivered they will come back up and and Float again they will be on top they will be uh facing major difficulty but they're going to be okay look at verse 7even it came to pass that when they were buried in the Deep there was no water that could hurt them their vessels being tight like unto a dish so the question question for for a group of students that you might be teaching or for your family is what can we do
to create airtight tight like unto a dish connections with Jesus Christ that it doesn't matter how big the opposition waves are or how Furious the winds blow they're not going to get in we're going to be safe in that Covenant that's that's a beautiful principle for us to discuss as as groups of students or or families today of how we can make our commitment to the Lord be more watertight be less prone to break open and to give up or to get out of the barge and he says they were also tight like unto the
Ark of Noah therefore when they were encompassed about by many Waters they did cry unto the Lord and he did bring them forth again upon the top of the waters so they're not a victim of the storm they're actually acting in the middle of the storm they're crying unto God to deliver them and he does multiple times now keep in mind the harder the wind the sooner they'll arrive in the promised land if it's a very gentle breeze they're probably going to run out of provisions there's a there's a need to get them somewhere within
a certain time frame and God knows those things and they've commended themselves to him and they trust him and they can't do anything about their steering anyway and so they're completely trusting in Him to carry them forth verse eight tells you it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow toward the towards the promised land so an exercise might be to have students or children or or people in a study group sit down and just take a few moments 60 seconds or two minutes and brainstorm as many stresses as you can think
of that are going on in your life as much opposition that you're facing in your life and recognize how those Winds of opposition might actually become invitations for us to turn more than ever before heavenward and plead for deliverance and plead for more connection and more understanding and perspective from God rather than turning outward and downward in anxiety or feelings of of Panic or feelings of lack of of agency as if we're a victim of all these circumstances there's nothing we can do about it look what they do in verse 9 and they did sing
praises unto the the Lord ye the brother of Jared did sing praises unto the Lord and he did thank and praise the Lord all the day long and when the night came they did not cease to praise the Lord so in the middle of all these storms instead of shaking their fist at Heaven they're praising God they're thanking him for his Deliverance they're thanking him for his kindness of taking them to a better place than where they were over in the old world and it says verse 11 thus they were driven forth 344 days upon
the Water just 21 days shy almost a month shy of a full year out there in this condition to the point where when they arrived in the promised land they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land and did humble themselves before the Lord and had shed tears of joy before the Lord because of the multitude of his tender mercies over them it's perspective instead of getting to the land and then complaining about what a rough Voyage it was and how seasick and motion sick it made them and how disorienting it was and how
scary it was and how God could have made this easier and why didn't he or why did he kinds of questions you'll notice they're putting their focus on praising God for his Tender Mercies I love that example because it's so easy as a human being being to to get frustrated with life's difficulties and then blame God and get upset with him rather than to see his goodness to see his hand of Deliverance and and those Tender Mercies in our own life of Storms and winds and and Mountain waves today so they go forth they began
to till the Earth and they they started spreading and multiplying and building up their civilization and it says they did wax strong in the land and Jared and his brother and that first generation of parents they're doing everything they can to teach their children they're they're trying to establish a foundation of intergenerational Faith it's not enough for them to live prosperous lives because of a covenant connection with God they're doing everything they can for their future posterity to have that same power and access to those same covenants and same connections with God so they're doing
what they can to teach now as you as you bring that forward in time to our day 4,000 years removed from from the brother of Jared and and Jared the question is what could we do as teachers as leaders and especially as parents as grandparents as siblings in today's world with so many storms that aren't caused by God but are caused by by humans and by poor decisions that are crashing upon us and our children and our families what can we do to create more of that Covenant loyalty that is tight like unto a dish
in a way that creates deeper roots of intergenerational Faith a simple thing might be to begin by asking those that we teach or those that we lead to just make a very simple contrasting list on a piece of paper or on a digital device where on one side they list off emotions feelings thoughts that they experience when they know that they're not under the influence of the Savior or the Holy Ghost when they know that they're not being invited to move in a positive direction but rather a negative Direction what are some of those emotions
what are those beliefs those attitudes those behaviors that they that they desire or experience when they know it's not of God it's a negative so the negative side they make this list of what those attitudes behaviors feelings thoughts the influences what those waves are like when they know it's not leading them in a positive direction and then to contrast that you make the positive side list over here what are the feelings that you have what are the thoughts that cross your mind what are the desires you experience when you know you're under the influence of
the Holy Holy Ghost when you're being inspired when you're being directed to to move forward in an X+ one sort of uh experience of Life what what are those things and as we list those off then you can do these contrasts where we can start helping the rising generation as well as the generations around us and above us in age even to better recognize what we can do to follow these principled examples from scriptures of people who keep the faith who move forward in faith and who keep their focus on God and and focused on
that Covenant connection so that we can then better discern where this ends if I consistently experience some of these items on this list and I don't kick them out and I don't make a adjustments it's just a matter of time before I'm strengthening those desires those needs for things on that list and we know where that list leads it doesn't lead to Eternal happiness it doesn't lead to Earthly happiness it doesn't lead to Earthly relationships that matter it all of this list will ultimately sever those relationships with love loved ones both on the earth as
well as with God versus if we can spend more time focusing on what do I do that then encourages this positive side to kick in those desires those uh feelings and thoughts and perspectives and attitudes and beliefs and behaviors and habits that get formed that are driving me towards a problem promised land or Heaven these Heavenly or think Celestial sorts of ways and you can build incredible spiritual momentum as president Nelson talks about as we discern what those items are and we seek those we stop waiting for them to happen to us and we actively
seek them while we're actively pushing against this negative side the Temptation side uh of of the list so now watch what happens we get to chapter 7 and now it kicks into high gear from 7 to 11 is where we're going to cover those 28 Generations out of the 30 in the entire book of ether of person after person after person covering about 2,000 years and watching as the people either Embrace this side of of their own list the negative side or in some occasions where a group of the people and these individuals embrace the
positive side so we begin with chapter 7 verse one it came to pass that Ora who is the one son of Jared who was willing to take the ruling of the people because all of the sons of the brother of Jared and the rest of Ora's Brothers refused it and so he takes the judgment and he executed that judgment upon the land in righteousness all his days whose days were exceedingly many and he had many children 31 children 23 sons that would be eight daughters a large family over many years and then the struggles begin
kahore Drew away many people after him and when he had gathered together an army he came up under the land of where the king dwelt and took him captive and thus it begins these multiple stories over and over of Kings either being good or bad and somebody bringing them into captivity and it's it's a painful struggle for this people through 2,000 years of their history so you jump over to verse uh 23 and we see the pattern this is what God does he doesn't just leave the people in this struggle it says also in the
reign of Shu there came prophets among the people who were sent from the Lord whenever there's a group of people who are in need of help God sends prophets that's his pattern and they were prophesying that the wickedness and idolatry of the people was bringing a curse upon the land and they should be destroyed if they did not repent so now the people have a choice they have agency the prophet's been sent by God the message has been delivered and the people see their message the way many might perceive a a mountainous wave or a
a gust of wind causing them to go in a Direction they don't want to go and they see it as the enemy look at verse 24 it came to pass that the people did revile against the prophets and did mock them and it came to pass that King Shu did execute judgment against all those who did Revel against the prophets so gratefully King schul is defending them at this point but that's not going to last as you see very quickly here and so that's the pattern amid all of this story in chapters 7 through 11
I would invite you to Mark every time you see the word prophets or Prophet or prophesying and just just pay attention to what's going on what is the Lord doing with the people through those prophets and what is the people's response and because of that response what is the outcome what is the result why not because we want to be an expert in jedite history but because the prophet Moroni put all of these stories in here for us and he's the one Prophet who most directly spoke to us saying behold I speak unto you as
if you were presentent and yet you are not he's seen our day because the Lord has shown to him our day so you would say hm I wonder why he's telling us so much about these details of the jedite civilization and specifically their rejection or acceptance of prophets and the prophecies that God gives them pay attention it comes up over and over again in chapter uh 7- 11 he King shul did execute a law throughout all the land which gave power under the prophets that they should go withs soever they would and by this cause
the people were brought unto repentance in other words in your own setting where you have capacity to create laws if you will for the domain that that you're in charge of if you set up those those laws rules regulations uh procedures whatever it may be that allow the the voice of prophets to be able to go withersoever they would to use these words the likelihood of the Next Generation being encouraged and motivated to repent increases surround them with the words of prophets without being preachy could be the principle here verse 26 because the people did
repent of their iniquities and idolatry the Lord did spare them and they began to prosper again in the land the pattern's very predictable and it's very repeatable in chapters 7 through 11 when they follow the prophet they Prosper they multiply and they expand in the land when they reject the prophets they fight they get killed they there's captivity there's death there's famine and disease there's bad stuff that happens and the irony is so thick that what they're really seeking to do is get gain for themselves and in the process they do the very things that
cause the least amount of gain longterm oh they might for a season through their murder and Intrigue and robbery and later on as we get here into chapter 8 secret combinations they can secretly get possessions and Power and and the things that the world has to offer but none of it lasts not even in in many cases in their own lifetimes it doesn't last it's fleeting it's only when they repent and come to Christ that they ultimately prosper in all of the ways that they that those involved in the secret combinations are striving to prosper
but they can't they're climbing a ladder that's leaning against the wrong wall altogether um you notice you notice patterns of this chapter 8 look at verse uh two Jared is the next man we're talking about he rebelled against his father and he came and dwelt in the land of Heth and it came to pass that he did flatter many people because of his cunning words until he had gained half the kingdom that sounds a lot like Lucifer flattering words cunning plan to get people to trust him and to follow him to turn people to him
instead of to the real king or in turning people away from God in in the premortal realm and what does it do it leads into captivity verse three bondage where agency is lost now you you jump down down to verse 7 and it says now Jared became exceedingly sorrowful because of the loss of the Kingdom for he had set his heart upon the kingdom and upon the glory of the world because there was a battle and he lost that battle and now he's in sorrow because he didn't get what he really wanted kind of like
Lucifer who wanted a kingdom he wanted Glory he could have had it if he had followed God and trusted in Jehovah but he chose to to create his own way to secretly gain that that power those riches by taking away agency destroying the agency of of you and me and because he loses that notice he's sorrowful because his heart was set upon the kingdom and upon the glories of the world which is a beautiful moment of potential reflection for you and me to stop for a moment and Ponder what is it that I really want
what am I what is my heart's desire what do I spend time energy money effort in pursuing and if it's all the things of this world and not the things of Eternity or the things of God then the these chapters can be more than just a jedite history lesson they can be a handbook filled with reminders for us to put our focus on the things of the spirit on the things of God to think Celestial more than ever before and to plead with him to help us to realign our priorities one of my favorite statements
from the prophetic Ministry of President Ezra T Benson was when he said this when we put God first all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives our love of the Lord will govern the Govern the claims of our affection and demands on our time the interests we pursue and the Order of our priorities I love that this becomes an opportunity for us to reassess am I am I slowly over time allowing myself to slide into becoming more like Lucifer who had all the focus on me what I want not
what God wants or is my focus on following the example of Jesus Christ who put God first and who turned outward and sacrificed his own desires to be able to do the will of the father for the benefit of all of us again instead of just bumbling through life and just not thinking about what we're doing to be a little more intentional not just in what I do but in how I pass that on to my children and grandchildren and others around me to help them also think a little more celestially and be a little
more intentional about the decisions they're making the Pursuits that they're uh after in life how they're spending their their energy and their money and their effort it it's a it's a beautiful opportunity at this point in the Book of Mormon to assess by seeing so many negative mixed with some positive examples on the scripture page so here in chapter 8 you get secret combinations fully introduced it's this this secret effort to murder or Rob or plunder in order for this group to get gain and they promis to keep it a secret um anytime we do
anything evil and seek to keep it in the dark keep it a secret to one degree or another that's a secret combination now in this case it's at a very big uh level with the the murder of a king involved but you see how the Lord speaks about this verse 18 came to pass that they formed a secret combination even as they have old which combination is most abominable and wicked above all in the sight of God for the Lord worketh not in secret combinations neither does he will that man should shed blood but in
all things hath forbidden it from the beginning of man so this is the essence secret combinations are the essence of what Satan's whole uh toolkit is about everything that he does is done in secret in order to destroy us in order for Satan to take from us certain things our agency and our abilities and bind us with his with his cords so he can drag us where he wants us to go into destruction and then Moroni gives a warning here these secret combinations have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking
and also of the destruction of the people of Nephi so he's given us two Nations and whatsoever Nation shall uphold such secret combinations to get power and gain until they shall spread over the nation behold they shall be destroyed for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his Saints which shall be shed by them shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he Avenged them not so Moroni gives us a very specific warning in 2425 and 26 of chapter 8 about watching for them and when we see
them he says when you see them come among you you shall awake to a sense of your awful situation because of the secret culmination which shall be among you he and then he gives more description of that warning in in the rest of 24 and then all of 25 and 26 which now brings us to chapter 9ine and you see this pattern repeat uh very predictably verse seven it says akush began to be jealous of his son so akush had gained the throne through secret accommodation and now at that point he's assuming everybody else is
going to do the same thing to him can you see how there's no peace in following the devil's plan you'll never have enough and you'll always be afraid of other people doing to you what you've done to them it it leads to chaos and it leads to a lack of trust a lack of deep Covenant connection with people and with God it's it's a way to completely cut oneself off from from everything that really matters and and all potential love and blessings that that are available in life so verse 11 the people of akush were
desires for gain even as akush was desires for power wherefore the sons of akush did offer them money by which means they drew away the more part of the people after them so we see the pattern repeat if you go to verse 26 27 28 in in chapter 9 you can see it happening again Heth begat Sons and Daughters there's exceedingly great wickedness Heth began to embrace the secret plans to destroy his father and he did Dethrone his father for he slow with his own sword and he did reign in his stead but again what
kind of a Reign was it is it a reign of peace and blessings and love and trust and prosperity no what does God do he sent prophet what did they say they cried repentance that they must prepare the way of the Lord or there should come a curse upon the land and initially the people believed not the words of the prophets but they cast them out and some of them they cast into pits and left them to perish until things get really bad and then in verse 34 it says now when the people saw that
they must perish they began to repent of their iniquities and cry to the Lord and it came to pass that when they had humbled them themselves sufficiently before the Lord he did send rain upon the face of the earth and the people began to revive again and there began to be fruit in the north countries so predictable and then in chapter 10 this cycle continues as we go through generation after generation in that list of 28 it says in verse 22 through 28 these are all of the things that God provides for these people I
ironically most of which they're what the people in The Wicked times had been seeking for but couldn't quite achieve and then hold on to long term and yet if we'll just trust God if we'll believe His prophets and follow them even if it makes no sense to us in a particular setting but we trust and we move forward then look at vers 22- 28 and Mark all of the things they become exceedingly industrious they buy and sell and traffic one with another that they might get gain they actually get gain but they do it the
right way not using secret combinations and deception and robbery verse 23 they did work in all manner of ore and they did make gold and silver and iron and brass and all manner of metals they dug it out of the earth they had silks and fine twined Linens and worked all manner of cloth to clothe themselves they made all manner of tools to teal the Earth tools that they could work their beasts and they made all manner of weapons of war they did work all manner of work of exceedingly curious workmanship so they're building up
this capacity to to prosper and defend themselves against those outside influences that would seek to destroy them and it says and they were in a land that was Choice above all lands for the Lord had spoken it so they're recognizing God's blessings and prosperous uh capacity for them and they're tapping into it and brothers and sisters we have that capacity today we can put God first in our life and he'll help us order things and some things will fall out of our life altogether and he will help us prosper in the land as we keep
the Commandments it's the same for us as it was for the jedit as it was for the mullites as it was for the Nephites as it was for the lamanites as it was for any people in the history of the earth which now brings us to chapter 11 you get all of these prophets coming prophesying of the destruction in verse one except they should repent and turn to the Lord and forsake their murders and wickedness but the prophets were rejected by the people and they fled to Cal for protection they didn't flee to God and
we know how this ends doesn't end well no person can take the place of God and yet he offers us that ultimate promise I will be your God you will be my people come to me connect with me I'll I'll protect you I'll Prosper you so now the people f face great Calamity in all the land for the prophets had testified that a great curse should come upon the land and also upon the people and there should be a great destruction among them such in one as never had been upon the face of the Earth
and their bones should become as heaps of Earth upon the face of the land except they should repent of their wickedness so this group that has prospered and spread and grown over 2,000 years it's prophesied you're you're going to be destroyed your bones will be heaped up on the earth and now we finish in verse 20 through 23 it says in the days of Coran there also came many prophets and prophesied a great marvelous things cried to repentance I said at the beginning watch for it the prophet theme comes up over and over again Moroni
has a very clear Mission he's trying to accomplish here with us I'm sure there are many of them but for me the most obvious one is to show us what happens when people reject prophets versus what happens when people accept and follow the prophets the Lord God would send or bring forth another people to possess the land by his power after the manner by which he brought their fathers so they're told if if you won't follow you're going to be replaced here in the land northward they didn't call it the land northward but the Nephites
and and mikit and lamanites are eventually going to completely take over that land over time with the response they did reject all the words of the prophets because of their secret society and wicked Abominations they have spent so much time on this negative side of attitudes beliefs behaviors feelings and thoughts and focus that they no longer seem to have the capacity to to want to repent or to try to do things on the positive uh Covenant connecting side of a list so in closing for this week an invitation for all of us to consider what
could I do in my circle of influence to not just put my roots deeper into the the foundation of the soil of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and into these Covenant connections with Christ that's wonderful but what could I do to encourage my loved ones and those around me to also spend more time focusing on that Covenant connection recognizing winds and waves and their source and their intent and responding appropriately to those efforts and which direction they're driving us either towards the promised land or preventing us from becoming uh who we need
to become as we're striving to go where we want to go which is the promised land and receive and Achieve and accomplish all that our heart desires in this life it's my prayer that we'll all do everything we can to encourage motivate and build intergeneration Faith intergenerational loyalty to the covenants that we make with Christ and to the blessings that he offers us and that we'll do what we can to turn our loved ones towards the prophets towards the Lord and his appointed servants rather than to the voices and the experts quote unquote of the
world that we live in and in our society today and closing I love the Lord for his goodness his Mercy his kindness and giving us profits and giving us his church and giving us Revelation and giving us the capacity to continually move toward him and toward our ultimate promised land and I leave that with you in the name of Jesus Christ amen know that you're loved [Music]
