the biggest problem that could be weighing on you and you put it out to the group and within five minutes it's solved and you can see people that once that happens like their shoulders just drop and you can physically see the difference that it makes so it to me running a mastermind group is like the best thing in the world to be able to help those to help people solve the biggest problems and challenges and it's it's absolutely a blessing like people think that I'm doing them a big favor and it's really my selfish my
selfish goal is to just make everybody in the groups more successful [Music] [Music] hey everybody Dobbin buck here Kohinoor gate yard coming to you actually from the gate yard cabin during the corona virus outbreak I managed to actually make it into the office today so it's sort of nice to be out of my house for a change but super super super super excited to for my guest today on the cabin signal one of my dearest friends in the world and also one of my most valuable business contacts fused into one incredible package sarah laws of
laws marketing and laws marketing is so broad and multifaceted in regards to what sarah does and she'll be telling us all about it but Sarah is a leader in developing mastermind groups that pull thought leaders together to be able to grow their businesses be able to share their visions together putting on online summits you know and she just had a very successful one last week the profit online summit that I actually participated in she'll tell us about that and also Sarah is the partner director for a number of different entities so some of you may
know Miriam so in the past she has directed their partner program currently she's working with wicked reports and also managing a huge number of agencies for full-stack marketing so you talk about a busy person you're talking about Sarah laws and I tell you what I know that we're gonna have a great time because we have fun all the time I'm in her mastermind martini mastermind so I get the honor of hanging out with her several times a year Sarah welcome today to the cabin signal thank you so much for having me that's quite an introduction
I'm gonna have to show this to my kids to let them know just how fabulous well you've been you've been a busy busy person not that you're not normally busy but like amidst this coronavirus you just put on a live summit last week which somehow you managed to schedule three days of people that are generally difficult to schedule I'm talking about the presenters mind you everybody three day two presenters and then the audience on top of it what how was that for you well it's really funny so I do run martini mastermind which you're in
and I thought how can I help my members of my mastermind groups and I have several of them do more right now right this is the time when businesses are you know it's crazy right now and what comes next kind of mental attitude and it's like how can i how can I help my friends and how can I help people in my mastermind group so it started with that and then it just sort of grew arms and legs and like in my mind it was gonna be a one day thing and pretty casual and then
suddenly I had 25 speakers and I was 30 days long so it was totally crazy I had never put on a summit for myself before so I learned a lot and yeah it's people were like why can't wait to your next one and it's like I'm still in the in the midst of it I compared to like you know having a baby like right now we're in the hospital and I hate everything if we're never doing this again but it's been tremendous to see the feedback and you know I sent out a survey and got
my NPS score and then I just feel like when you have an opportunity and everybody's at home right now and if I can provide one of my most favorite things that I heard back from the summit was nobody was pitching anything and that was the whole point of it it was just I wanted to I have some of the smartest people that I know that I am in contact with and if I could put them all together in a room and this is what I love about masterminding when you put smart people together incredible things
happen smart fun people who like to give you know it wasn't what what's in this for me it was people were taking you know 30 minutes or an and putting together a presentation that was just going to help the audience and I couldn't I really couldn't be happier yeah well you know you should be really proud and I was proud to participate in that and and I'm pretty busy right now but I was actually able to attend some of the other speakers presentations and the comments that were rolling and the fun that was being had
it was just second to none you know and it really it really warmed up my my you know you know some periods of those days because you know people I know and stuff were popping on there was a little bit of joking and so while people were presenting people could chat in ask questions and things like that during the during the summit and so it was a resounding success and I'm just amazed at how quickly you put it together and how many people like just rallied to the opportunity holy cow yeah it was it was
definitely unexpected I was like well at least my mom's gonna come so we have the girl ship of guaranteed but it was yeah it was really incredible I love getting people together right it's all about that connection and how can you bring people together and yeah I was just I'm just lucky enough to know really smart people that would do me a solid and carve out that time like you especially you know it's we're all busy running our own companies and yeah it was a great opportunity and I we have a mutual friend I think
he's been on this before Chris Austin and he was like Sarah just influenced and you just get it done and did I know everything that needed to be done for an online summit heck no but did I figure it out a long way absolutely and you know now that I'm on the other side of it I can go back and think what are the things that I would do differently next time once I'm out of that hole if I ever do it again see but you know you could document your process and go back and
make improvements next time yeah that's great and she mentioned Sarah mentioned Chris Austin on our YouTube channel there's a interview of with me and Chris really brilliant man if you want to check it out so great you know we talked a little bit about martini mastermind so let me share with you all about this so Sarah put together this incredible ensemble of just amazing people and it's modified over the years the participants as things do but it's just the the strongest tightest knit group of like fun-loving entrepreneurs that are into moving their business forward and
opening up all their secrets methodology and really it is as she said a spirit of sharing and and I've been an honored member of this for some of this group for some time I look forward to it and we meet quarterly in various exotic locations big houses with hot tubs and all sorts of other things that I won't even tell you about and well we were we had one I'll tell one quick story that maybe Sarah collaborated on but we were in Sedona we were in Sedona Arizona and we're all in this beautiful house out
there in the desert it's just beautiful charming and you know it's sort of after the mastermind day and I say oh but there's a here's a little drawer full of games you know and so I'm like oh monopoly Yahtzee but and then I'm like oh look at this incredible flashlight isn't this you know this thing's heavy duty you know so I'm like mister dude and and so I like go and I see there's a button and I'm holding the flashlight night trigger it on and what I didn't realize ladies and gentlemen was that it was
a what do you call him Sarah taser a Taser it was taser gun for zapping someone you take accounting I shocked the living hell out of myself but there's like you know a bunch of people in the room and they're like what what just happened we had no idea and it was it was there was like a drunk drawer below the TV nerve a little nerf gun wasn't it he would not imagine that was the place where you keep absolutely crazy so thanks to Sara laws actually tase myself but this has been a really successful
kashat it has meant so much to me as a human being as a business owner as a person trying to find new things the doors that martini and mastermind has opened and the valuable friendships that is brought into my life is priceless I mean entrepreneurship can be really lonely right there people don't get your same problems and you know you can talk to your partner or your spouse and they can understand but it's I always say that it's difficult to read the outside of the jar when you're in it and those closest to you are
in the jar with you and coming together to be able to share you know your challenges or your problems or getting people to bounce ideas off of it's just a great opportunity to grow as business owners and I have a friend who's in the program with Dobbin and he was always hesitant he's like I don't like I don't like frat type things and I don't know they just come to one and see what it's like just experience it and I'm pretty fun-loving so he was like no no no it was just a really good three-day
party and the can attest you I'm a stickler for we started a certain time everything is time there are rules in place that have to happen and now he's been a member for over a year and has best feedback to me was like I can't believe how this has impacted me personally and professionally and just having that the outlet and the connections and you know you come to to an event and with somebody that it's like the biggest problem that could be weighing on you and you put it out to the group and within five
minutes it's solved and you can see people that once that happens like their shoulders just dropped and you can physically see the difference that it makes so it to me running a mastermind group is like the best thing in the world to be able to help those to help people solve the biggest problems and challenges and it's it's absolutely a blessing like people think that I'm doing them a big favor and it's really my selfish my selfish goal is to just make everybody in the group more successful yeah well mission accomplished you know and a
lot goes into it so we're always hosted at really cool locations food is always in abundance snacks what's the watermelon sour Pat's lot of watermelon going home so how the Pats watermelons available at all hours and and and just really well thought out you know processes in the experience you know that surrounds the fellowship and the information the purpose of it makes makes all the difference now Siri do you if somebody wants to start up a mastermind or is interested in cultivating that you do consult with people to help them learn from your experience right
absolutely and it's you know you're in one of my groups I have a local mastermind that means in an online group that means so it's definitely you know right now at the times our next meeting is scheduled for June and normally we would be in a big house somewhere probably in Sedona again because it's one of the best places on earth but we're not traveling right now so we've had to shift to an online event but you know it's really being part of a monster runner starting and running your own monster mine is really you
get to make whatever you want and whatever works for your lifestyle I love when people come together the relationships that you can create and the bonds that you make are just incredible and I like to have fun and everything than I do so there's you know the business part of the day and then definitely at nighttime we have fun and we're hanging on the pool or shooting pool or playing playing board games which I will warn you it is a mistake when you have a room full of competitive entrepreneurs playing Monopoly so that's a lesson
no monopoly of a future but it is creating your own mastermind as as incredible gifts and and when I started I was I was really worried about you know will I be able to answer everybody's questions will I ever - you know guide everybody that the way that they need to be and someone said to me like it's not about you Sarah it's the people that you bring together so the especially my main group that gets together quarterly live and in person it's really it's an app like an application only it's an invite-only type process
it's not something that I'm not they're running Facebook Ads for to get people into it is you look at your group and if somebody drops off or you're ready to add another person you know who would be a good fit is it a multi-million dollar SAS company owner is it a new consultant and agency and I think there's advantages in both and I think just having a purpose to your mastermind is what will drive people to fill it so yeah I absolutely consult I'm happy to share with anybody listening to this any ideas or questions
we just reach out to me yeah absolutely and and and our mastermind is really focused on agency and SAS and technology-based companies but whether you know if you're in in real estate if you're in medical if you're in financial if you're you know regardless of what your vertical is if you aren't if you don't have opportunities to connect with other like-minded business owners on a open intimate level there's a chance that you may be really missing out on something and if there isn't such a group available or that you're aware or one that you're like
feeling the vibe of right you know then it may be worthy you know for you to you know to put together a like-minded group of people select a location you know hold a mastermind be the catalyst or the facilitator and ultimately you can be the catalyst for the groove and be the hub for the group but what Sara can bring to the table is all the logistics that you just don't think about you know sure there are a million moving pieces and it you're I'm always learning right there's there's new things that come up all
the time but now I have you know years of experience under my belt I know how to handle a situation when somebody tasers themself I feel like what it would there's an insurance company that does a commercial we should recreate that with like yeah we've got that farmers I think it is but it is incredibly important and you know within the my big mastermind group that meets you quarterly there's a lot of people in there who you could look at as competitors and that is not how we're very collaborative it is how can you how
can you take an idea with a competitor at potential competitor and build upon it and help each other and we collaborate so much more and you can go so much further when you're collaborating instead of like oh man I can't open up to this person because they'll take my idea and bla bla bla bla bla right if we you have to have that collaborative approach which is part of you know just an application and betting process yeah I got checked people right you have a conversation and and know if they're like that I was part
of a mastermind group that they would sort of just let anybody into it like you had the money you're good to go your card went three years ago and I went to one of the leaders and I was like listen that person makes me incredibly uncomfortable I don't I don't think you should let them in and they were like oh well their money went through so that's just how it's gonna be and I was like oh man that's depressing now these events that I was looking forward to was like oh but that guy's gonna be
there and later in the evening he came the leader came to him he was like five other people don't do the same thing I don't think we should let a man like you know wasn't being a jerk it's just that making sure that your group has the vibe and the feelings and you know there's there's ways that you can create a group and experiment and it with my mastermind sometimes will bring somebody new in to make sure that they're a fit and I tell them beforehand like this is a two-way street you have to like
it and the group has to vote on you and it's not a be on your best behavior thing but it is you know just making sure that everybody is safe and comfortable being in a mastermind is you have to be vulnerable and the more open and vulnerable you are the more you get out of it but it's it's not always easy saying hey I'm having this challenge in my business and opening up but there's incredible power in it I you know I will agree with that 110 percent you know and the vibe is everything the
trust factor is really crucial I mean if you want to get down deep and real with you know with business it's as intimate as with our family lives or anything else I mean it's very it's very real and it's very sacred you know and so finding the right group of people and interesting your viewpoint on competition in the martini mastermind many of us could be considered direct competitors but it's never ever been an issue you know and in many ways if I have an idea for for our agency that I want to bounce off people
I don't care if that would work for them to go for it you know our audience is small business it's like wow you know if you're worrying about one other person knowing about what you're up to then you might want to choose something else you know so it's it's been it's been it's been really good so like for the the audience here Sarah if some what would be the first step and that might be calling you or reaching out or something else but the first step would you recommend like if let's just say that someone
is a ophthalmologist okay and they want to share with with other professionals in their field what would be a good starting point for them to put together a group like you the groups that you've put together yeah so first getting clear on your purpose right it's when you have an industry that's pretty easy right it's gonna be all industry professionals if you're in real estate you wouldn't want a pet groomer in your group they can bring a different perspective but it might not always be the most helpful so then figuring out like what format you
want obviously right now online is the thing and I think online is the easiest one to start with I just host a one-day event that you get I would say ten people together form and make a list of those people in your rolodex I'm like what is it what is my facebook Messenger I'm terrible like Facebook Messenger is my maiden mode of communication so when I very first started a mastermind I just reached out to people who I would want in it who I thought would be a good fit so if you have a list
of those contacts that you like the person I always thought if I'm gonna spend three days with somebody I need to like well life is too short to spend three days with somebody that I don't like still reaching out and just putting something together that you can charge from masterminds I do you can offer a free one and maybe your first ones like a preview kind of event or I always think that people put into it what or they get out of it what they put into it so if you have a free event which
is definitely an opportunity you'll have commitment issues you know people won't show up for meetings they just don't have the same vested interest as somebody who's paying for it and puts puts value into it so make a list of 20 people invite them to your first event and you we sort of didn't talk about what we do at the mastermind other than tasing ourselves is just a hot seat time and I think of masterminds purely as hot seat they're masterminds out there that are just educational and mine are all hot seat so we get together
one person's in the hot seat and they have you know an hour of time just depending on you know one of our three-day events hour-and-a-half of focused time on them so they come in they state their problem well we always like to start with something that's positive that's working in our business because sometimes we don't appreciate good stuff that we have going on it's like okay that's working now let's go put out this fire so we acknowledge something positive in our business and then our challenge and then I encourage everybody to just shut up at
that point and lovingly as possible just shut your mouth and listen to everybody else because now you have nine other people in the room that can give you advice and I don't like to hear things like well I've tried that and blah blah blah it's like just take your notes take it all in and do with the information what you want you know we have people who have been there and done that and been through similar challenges you have different perspectives on way to solve a solution so yeah just make a list of people and
reach out to them when you're perform mine was always messenger so I put my first event together message and those people asked if they were into it it's in an order form to really make sure they didn't rip it and and started my first event yeah you know the cool thing or one of the many cool things about it is that because we meet on quarterly basis you really like the effectiveness is about the rhythms of this not necessarily about the one time a bunch of people come together because ultimately we get to know each
other deeper we get to understand each other's business so each subsequent time we get together as a group we are we already know all the front-load and all the information the back history the things that people have already overcome and we can really like get down to helping each other a lot quicker and that's been a real value and and also you know it doesn't mean that that's the only time that we all talk to each other either so we're interconnecting and we were out a lot of the same events and other things too so
we're able to you know to catch up and and find out how certain things are going and and then online we have a private group that we we can that we do communicate through and all that so there's a lot going on in this so my point to everybody out there and and we work with a lot of different clients and a lot of different areas like there's a tremendous amount of value in this and if you want to talk to someone that knows I promise you the ins and outs of how to do this
the right way Sarah laws is absolutely the person really like it's been a it's been just one of the biggest joys of my professional life is to be a member and participant of our group incredible what I love to see happen is we jump on a caller we get together and somebody's like yeah blah blah I connected and we did XYZ and it's like I had no idea what happening and you know we have our online platform that people can connect with and ask issues and it's been important right now with all of this stuff
going on you know people had questions about the SBA loans and different channels so people are able to get quick answers and connect with everybody so that you know we have little stuff that can crop up and people can put their question and everybody you know it's still the same safe place like even if we were in a room together it's you know we have death Vegas rules of what happens in the not join stays in the mastermind and I've been fortunate enough that that's never never I've never put anybody and who has broken one
of those things but you have to you have to have that create that safe space for everyone yeah yeah it's interesting I always say Vegas rules until it happens on social media so I don't know if that's actually yeah we keep everything sacred and and that's never been a that's never been an issue I mean that's part of the strength of it is you know and you'll notice that I haven't mentioned any members by name or anything that's their own business you know yes it's like Fight Club right you just we just we just drink
martinis I don't actually know how I'm making martini you wait say that again I don't well two things so I I've never had an actual martini and I just not a drink them I can order I'm like a champ to Lemon Drop martinis we're good to go yeah well we have a lot of fun so something totally worthy of consideration let's let's switch gears for a few minutes Sarah and talk a little bit about about partnership programs so a lot of you out there if you're clients of get you wired if your friends have get
you are if you're other agencies we all you may have we may have been introduced through one of gate yards many partner programs such as we are long-term certified partners of keep or Infusionsoft we're certified partners of active campaign of wicked reports of all sorts of different organizations and SAS entities and that's where we make a lot of friendships and meet a lot of clients through well in order for those programs to be successful on the on the software provider side the SAS side such as Infusionsoft or wicked reports or Mariam ultimately they need somebody
that can go out and connect with a ecosystem of people that want to support the product with their clientele or resell the product which a lot of these partnership programs they have a real serious interest in inisfree selling their products and so it takes a real special person and a real special talent to be able to put these programs together and then there's a world of difference between modeling a partnership program for your product or service and properly executing it and actually get people to participate like that's the magic in it and I've seen you
Sarah do this time and time again is there perhaps some wisdom to people out there that are thinking about hey you know what for my product or service I'd like to start up a partner program or you know or just to give them a better understanding of what these things are because it's a it's a true art and it's a true science to be able to pull it off like you do thank you oh my gosh let's do a call like this every day for my ego yeah I you know a partner channel or affiliate
channel is can be a whole different revenue arm for you for your business and you know there's different levels of it do you just want a referral program or maybe somebody if you have a soft company that you just have people who want to send you business and that's it that's great like what what can you give to them or maybe you want to certify certification program or you need to test their knowledge do they know how to use your software are you going to turn them loose to your own customers so what are the
things that you need to do to make sure that they're representing your brand because it's an extension of your brand so it's it is definitely thinking about I mean I encourage everybody to have some type of partner program for further business because like I said it can be a whole other sales force that is out there for you making money and there's tons of things to think about and consider I did a presentation last week on my Summit about it whether it's you just want to get your customers referring other people or whether you want
to work with you know and build an ecosystem within your own company of these partners and I with pretty much everything that I do I think how can i benefit my partner if somebody's going to come and put their hand up that they want to work with my company and I'll use wicked reports as an example we created a certified partner program for them and it was how can the partner win here like the residual benefit is wicked reports will win right you'll have partners out there that are promoting it implementing it servicing clients but
what what are the benefits that you can put in the partner program that makes it sustainable right you don't want it to be a drain on your business what what what will they get out of it why would they want to pay money to participate in this program and most certification programs is a fee to get certified because the benefits are so great so when you're thinking about can I put together a partner program like what are what are the things that you can give partners to be able to attract them yeah money is one
of my favorite things a good way so with wicked we have regular referral program of people who might just be able to to recommend somebody they have a friend who should also use what maybe they're in a mastermind group with somebody and they send them over and they'll get 10% a software cost but being our certified partner you get a 20% fee for bringing people over and it's recurring so it's it's a way that people you know can continue to grow their business while doing yours and Infusionsoft is another example of a software company that
just provides payment and sometimes you can think oh that's a little bit icky but as an agency owner and someone who works with clients I never recommend something I don't personally use so if I'm not using I'm never and I only work with ethical people love and who we only use systems that benefit our clients so it is you want to make sure that you have that kind of product if not you may be but what are what I always like to give partners the absolute most that I can without jeopardizing the the company's future
so Shopify what is an e-commerce platform and they used to give lifetime commissions you would sell something you get lifetime commissions and they realize that wasn't sustainable because they might as well just grow their own sales team and pay them a one-time Commission and move on with it instead of paying a partner forever so they make modifications and now you get a one-time payment if you sell Shopify plus you get $2,000 so it's nothing just me that for sure you know it can be for your partners it can be an entirely new revenue stream into
their business by by recommending you so as long as you go and meet with the attitude of how can i benefit my referral partners or my certified partners the best way and serve them and honor them because they are a representation of your brand you can create a stellar partner program but there's 10 million different things that go into it right what are your rules how much are you what are you going to give them what systems are you going to use to track it how what content are you going to provide for them there's
there is a lot of effort that goes into it but I think it can be really beneficial in the end yeah it's a monster effort you know and I really appreciate it and I've been you know I've been in so many partner programs as as you well know that I've experienced great partner programs and I've experienced not so great partner programs and the interesting thing about it is it's like we don't talk about the not-so-great partner programs we just don't support it you know if it's not great and the people behind it and there isn't
some you know some kind of rub or relationship that's ongoing it it doesn't become a bad thing it just like isn't on the top of our mind and that's the whole point of it is to keep these products on the top of our mind Sara mentioned Wickard reports of which of whom she's responsible for there is also on our YouTube channel a interview between me and Scott - gross yay the owner of Wickard reports that's really interesting so if you're doing e-commerce if you're doing e-commerce online through you know through your website through yours and
through your CRM system and you really want to attract your attribution and into your funnels and see where your conversions are and figure out how to make the right decision for your ad spend and ultimately for your creative process in mind with your sales wicked reports is an incredible product that I wholly support and that we recommend for our clients regularly so wicked reports is a great system and Sara is in charge of the partner program of which I'm a part a proud member so a lot of useful things so once again to all of
you out there you know if you you know if you're an influencer and you want to figure out ways to get your following to support other channels and initiatives that you have going on this is something really worthy to consider if you have developed a digital product or a SAS offering and ultimately you want to to leverage you know I think it's it's two-part one thing when you start going to support you want a partner program of people that can really help support and service your clients because it's very expensive to be the only resource
for support for your product when it scales it's it's next to impossible talk to anybody that's done it it's impossible so when you have an army of people out there that are familiar and adept your system getting them the latest information on the updates on all of that sort of stuff to where they can remain authorities it's real important and then on the transactional side of the relationship you know there's a quid pro quo that is hey I'll sell your product and then you give me a residual payment of you know ten twenty percent sometimes
it's more for different for different products and it really starts adding up I know that it you wire just made a tremendous amount of revenue and not at the expense of our customers mind you it comes out of the expense of people that were partners with that you know because we've resold their products we've made an honorable amount of monthly recurring revenues so you know anyway if you're setting up one of these programs and you want to speak to someone that has some know-how in regards to its era laws is a great resource you know
and it would be my first call if I was setting up such a program but nobody wants to be you know we don't have we don't I don't think I get you wired we're ready for an army of partners we do however internally have referral programs so our clients are referring business and all of that so we're we're strong adherence of referral programs and that sort of thing but partner programs is something that's a little bit it's it's way more it's just way more involved it's next level wouldn't you say yeah for sure and there's
you know there's an exchange of money on both sides right you generally have to pay to play pay to become a certified partner and like with wicked we don't offer well we don't have every service out there that is goes around marketing attribution right if somebody wants to measure their marketing they might need somebody to run that they might need copy they might need graphics they might need back-end systems so our partners are a way that we can showcase you know Dobbin and your team can't get you wired can can handle those things so now
if I'm a wicked reports customer and I need additional help they're turning to our partners and we're highlighting and showcasing them so that you know again it's it's how can we help our partners be better and do more things actually Sarah you and I met originally because we were both partners of Infusionsoft we still are both partners of Infusionsoft and deeply involved in Infusionsoft but that was that that that certified partner program was you know a gateway to a great friendship you know and it's the whole community around it right it's all for me it's
all about connections and how can you help each other and even if as a director of partners I can see two partners who come into the system and you have a conversation with them and you get to learn a little bit more about their business and now I can connect you with other people and like hey Devin you're really kick-ass at XYZ and come over here and talk to my buddy will who's kick-ass at XYZ and now you guys are partnering together and it's really being able to make those connections again takes it to the
next level and when you have a good partner manager or a you know director of partners they're there doing those and especially if they have that partner first attitude of how can I help in any way possible is it's just how I'm built and wired so that's how I build programs yeah well I'm grateful I'm grateful it's amazing you know it's amazing the spiderweb of how people connect and and and meet and in and through the business world and I was just like I had this flash of like when I started talking about when you
and I first became friends you know and now I think about all the relationships that I valued that came through just me meeting you so you brought so many incredible people into my life and I just cherish you know you mentioned one a moment ago and you know it's just it's amazing the way these things work so there's a lot of magic you know in this and we're talking about online summits we're talking about masterminds we're talking about our partnership programs and it's all about inter connect and in the digital age with this technology what
we have going on it's just you know there's a there's a method to it and there's a mastery to it but if you're working with the right person it can change your life you know just like it's changed my life so really great well Sarah I'm so honored to have you here today you know I appreciate you having come on the the cabin signal there's fewer people I would in this world that there's there's probably no one I'd rather spend an hour with you know and I make a joke that there's three you know there's
