if you have never made a YouTube short before it can be kind of overwhelming to know where to begin how do you add all of those cool little captions on screen where do I find the b-roll for my videos there's lots of questions that you might be having right now so in this video we're going to walk you through a simple five-step process for creating and editing your first YouTube short Tik Tok or Instagram real you got to just press record hi everybody Craig puit with think media for this tutorial today we're going to be
using Opus clip to edit and produce our short form video you can of course use a variety of different editing softwares to make shorts but Opus specifically has some unique tools that are going to save us a lot of time and help us Master the short form creation process a lot more quickly so Step One is we need to record our content and we have a couple of options here how we can do this option one would be you record new content using a mobile device or a camera so this video can be shot either
vertically or horizontally either option will work just fine but if you shoot horizontally you just want to make sure that you frame up your image in a way that leaves enough space to crop it vertically later in post production so be sure to leave yourself enough space or choose to record vertically now with Opus clip you also have a second option where you could select existing content that you've recorded in the past or even content that you've already uploaded to YouTube before and then create shorts from that existing content so we call this repurposed content
but for our tutorial today we're going to focus on created an original Short so this piece of content does not exist anywhere else this is not a repurpose clip I just recorded this clip on my cell phone device and we're going to use this clip to create our short which leads us to step two we need to import our content into our editing software of choice so in this case this means uploading the video to Opus Clips software because this is going to serve as our editing platform since we're uploading a really short video file
this isn't going to create 10 to 20 shorts for us like it would if we were going to upload a fulllength podcast episode to Opus clip and that's one of the cool features of Opus is it uses AI to spit out a bunch of vertical short from long form videos but in our case we're just focusing on one really short video file under a minute in length so it's just going to create one easy timeline that we can go make adjustments to so once we upload that video we're already at a really good starting point
with some caption started but now we need to go in and dial in our short just a little bit more this leads us to step three which is to edit and refine our short so right now we need to dive into the editing timeline in opless and start slicing things up chopping things moving things around removing any mistakes that I may have made during my recording so this is where we got to get to work and make sure our story is exactly how we want it to be we got to trim off the edges here
we got to cut out any mistakes using their slice tool like with any software it takes a little bit of time to just get used to knowing where the buttons are and the different tools are but after you spend just a few hours in Opus clip everything will begin to feel a bit more natural and we can move on to step four which is enhancing our edit with more b-roll and Graphics as you saw probably right away Opus has an incredible automatic captioning feature which is surprisingly really accurate and it's also editable so if there
are any mistakes like it kind of messed up the Sony nexx 3n I can go in and correct those words and make sure that it's accurate to what I want it to be you can also use color adjustments to emphasize different words and phrases we actually have a template inside of Opus clip called the think media template and it automatically creates a style with some yellow and green emphasis as well as a little bit of an animation that comes on screen your text kind pops up on screen one after another it's a cool style another
great way that we can enhance our video a little bit more is with b-roll or supplemental footage that will kind of reinforce whatever we're talking about we can correspond our words with a visual on screen to help reinforce our points right so Opus clip has a really robust library of stock footage that you're able to pull from as well as a really cool new feature which is AI broll which creates custom b-roll using an AI software you can select a word or phrase from your script and then it'll use AI to then transform those words
into moving images that are original these are AI based so here I typed in vlogger and photographer and was able to get these photorealistic b-roll Stills which I think is a really cool effect and then I also searched their stock footage library for some different assets and some different camera style b-roll which was really helpful all right so now with pretty minimal effort for my part all I did was record a vertical video and this software has done most of the work for me it's now time for our fifth and final step we need to
export and publish our short the pro version of Opus clip actually has a really cool feature where you can schedule and upload from one of your social media platforms like YouTube Tik Tok Instagram and Facebook Etc you can just log into one of your personal or business accounts and upload content directly from Opus clip to save you a lot of time or you can download the highquality version of the video to your computer and then take the time to manually go upload it to the different platforms all right let's check out to see how our
final video turned out this might be my favorite camera that I've personally ever purchased because it was so cheap this is the Sony n3n and I bought it in 2024 for only $69 what a cheap price point for such a good little camera it shoots high quality 1080p video at around 24 frames per second as well as takes really good still so this is a fun just walk around camera for you vloggers out there or people who like doing street photography so highly recommend the Sony nexx 3n hey all right that's not that bad so
in under an hour we took that video file that we just recorded threw it into Opus clip did some basic editing and really relied on the AI software tools that Opus clip provides for us to create the short that actually looks pretty good but as we mentioned Opus clip is also great for repurposing existing content like long form video podcasts and if you want to see how you could create 30 shorts in one hour using Opus clip click or tap the screen to check out that video and we'll see you in the next one
