The animation opens up on a festive Christmas Eve with a girl Marie dancing on a stage. After her exquisite dance, everyone commended her efforts as her mother introduces her to Mr Rattler, the owner of a pawn shop. He didn't fail to commend the talented dancer.
But Marie isn't really happy to see him. However, her attitude doesn't mean so much to Mr Rder as he lets her know that her father owed him over 100,000 before he died and it's time to pay up. He knows they aren't capable of paying him yet, so he offers them a proposal.
Mr Rder vows to clear out their debts if he takes Marie as his wife. They refuse the offer and chase him out. Rder is convinced that they will soon change their mind once poverty hits them really deep.
Before he departs, he gives Marie a beautifully carved nutcracker in the shape of a soldier. In despair, Marie runs to her room as she throws the gift away. She sings, reflecting on her life, wishing she was a kid again when life wasn't really complicated.
Just then, she is magically transformed into a miniature version of herself. With everything being so enormous, she tries to call the attention of her mother, but all to no avail. On the bright side, Marie doesn't have to marry anyone again.
It feels like a gift and curse after so many objects tried to kill her. Just then, she is attacked by a rat. And while it tries to eat her, the nutcracker comes to life and begins to attack the rat.
Just then, all of Marie's toys sprung to life. As they chase the rat away, Marie is surprised that all her toys are actually alive. They let her know that they came to live when she began singing.
Christmas Eve is always a magical night, and her song brought them to life. Although she is excited to see her toys talking, Maria is still worried that she will remain this way forever. They let her know that the magic isn't forever, when the new sun rises on Christmas morning, the spell will be lifted and she will go back to normal.
The Nutcracker, who doesn't remember anything, just knows he is created to hate rodents and fight rats. As he heads into the rat cave, he suddenly remembers his name to be George. Just then, Marie and the toy wizard try to stop him from entering the rat hole.
He tells her that they must stop him from going unless the spell won't be lifted. For the spell to work, everyone who was present when it was cast has to be present again. George is nowhere to be found as he has gone through a tunnel leading to another realm.
Marie is worried as George has to be present at dawn so the spell can be lifted. Marie and two of her toys, Red Beak and Curly decide to go after George. After locating him, they try to bring him back, but George won't listen to them.
Just then, a chariot carrying a queen rat shaped in human form stops as Marie and her group quickly hide. The queen rat had perceived human stench and believes something is up. Just then, Redbe chickens out of the hiding place due to tension.
The guards go after the ostrich, but the Queen Rat isn't still yet conceived. After a hot pursuit, the guards finally give up on the ostrich. Despite the coast being clear, Redbeak is still deeply troubled as he wishes to go back home.
However, new fresh memories keep on coming to George as the whole realm feels nostalgic to him. He finally remembers everything after seeing a castle. George was living happily with his father before his mother died.
His father remarried a wicked woman who has the shape of a rat. One day, he tries to tell his dad about his stepmother, but it is too late as she had already poisoned his drink, making him fall so deep in sleep. The queen rat transforms George into a miniature nutcracker as he is being kicked out of the castle.
After recalling his story, he claims he has to defeat his stepmother and her regain control of the kingdom, but Marie feels it isn't a good idea and he has to come with her so the spell will be lifted by Dawn. During their argument, George falls from a cliff down to a waterfall. The toys heroically save him.
And when he regains consciousness, Marie tries to strike a deal with him, she promises to help him defeat all the evil rats if he would go back to her place before dawn. After George agrees, they plan to go rescue his father first. The king is kept locked up in a prison where the evil queen rat keeps on giving him a sleeping potion that would help him forget about everything.
However, the bond he has with his son is too deep as he doesn't seem to be forgetting him anytime soon. The queen isn't happy with this development as she needs his magic flute, which would help her son become king. George and Marie decide to go through a secret tunnel that would lead them right underneath the castle and right at the royal crypt.
As they get to the spooky royal crypt, they are attacked by the ghosts of the past kings and the royals. After a chaotic encounter, they suddenly realize he is Prince George. Just then, the ghosts stop chasing him.
A little family reunion happens. They recognize Marie to be his girlfriend, but George denies it. wondering what the prince could be doing down at the royal crypt, he lets them know that the castle has been overthrown by evil rats.
They let him know that in order to get rid of them, George had to use the ancient magic flute. With no idea of where it could be, George and the group proceed to go look for the king so they would find out the location of the magic flute. They managed to make their way to the kitchen where the chef almost uses Redbe for turkey soup.
Redbe manages to escape death with the help of George and Curly. Just then, they are almost caught by a guard, but a girl named Margaret helps them by knocking him out. Margaret and George used to be really close before the rats came into power.
She is among the few humans left. However, they are all put into the labor force, either as guards, tailor, or as a cook. Margaret teases on how she and Prince George were almost betrothed when they were little, making Marie a little bit jealous.
She promises to lead them safely as George tells her the reason he had come to the castle. Margaret gives him the location of his father, saying he is in a real critical situation. The palace is going to be packed with guests as the queen's son, Prince Charles, is having a masquerade party for his birthday.
So, they will need to find a costume. Margaret dresses them up for the masquerade party. However, she is subjected to serving the rodents drink at the party, so George and Marie have to act alone.
They make Red Beak and Curly their pets as they decide to blend in with a perfect disguise. Their main aim is to get to the other side of the room where the king is being locked up. But their plan doesn't go as planned as a dance scandal occurs.
Prince Charles suddenly falls for Marie, but she introduces George as her fianceé. When the prince begins to suspect George as someone he knows, Marie agrees to dance with him as a form of distraction so George can carry on the mission without getting exposed. George goes into his father's room where he meets his father in a bad condition.
with no way of getting him to wake up. George decides to sing the lullaby the king used to sing him when he was still a child. Just then, the king releases a star-like symbol from his hand.
George looks for clues and then uses it to open a shelf. Just then, an ancient talking scroll comes out. It gives George and his crew clues on where to find the magic flute.
Just as George figures the magic flute is being held at the old tower, the evil queen and her son walk in while George and the others hide underneath a bed. Queen Charlotte plots on how to take the crown away from the king and give it to her son. After so much evil plotting, she finally leaves the room.
George and Marie then plan on crossing over to the other end of the old tower so they can retrieve the magic flute. George manages to cross over, stepping on a rope. Marie does the same, but almost falls.
However, George saves her as they share an intimate moment. Margaret, on the other hand, is being exposed as a traitor as Prince Charles orders that she be seized. However, the queen proposes to help her, of course, with an evil scheme.
George and Marie managed to make it inside the tower, but then they are lost without clues. They seek help from the ancient scroll, and after giving them clues, Marie realizes that the flute could be underneath a rug. The duo takes out the rug only to discover a secret tunnel.
In fear that something terrible could have happened to George and Marie, Curley and Redbe decide to go after them. They try to cross towards the tower, but they end up crashing the tower's bell, resulting in an epic fall. George and Marie make it to the end of the tunnel with the help of the ancient scroll.
There he sees a flute, which he takes out to play. Unfortunately, as he plays the flute, thousands of flutes appear, making it difficult to identify the original magic flute. They begin to play different flutes, hoping one would produce a magical result.
However, nothing works as it keeps multiplying. George becomes frustrated and gives up on saving the kingdom. He is bent on saving Marie as the queen could have been alerted.
But with no other way to go back, the duo are stuck in the underground tunnel. Marie begins to cry as she tells George about her problems and how she will be made to marry Mr Rder or her mother will end up in jail. George promises to always be by her side as they engage in a really emotional dance.
Their chemistry intensifies as the magic flute finally appears. George is relieved as he takes out the flute ready to save his kingdom. On his way, he is met by Queen Charlotte, who asks him to hand over the flute in exchange for Margaret's life.
Margaret warns him not to listen to them and uses her as a sacrifice instead. But as a sign of affection, George hands over the flute to Queen Charlotte. Is then revealed that it was all a plan and decoy by Margaret and the Queen to fool George into handing over the flute.
Margaret had been promised to be the princess and would marry Prince Charles if she managed to pull it off. She is excited as she happily rebukes George. Margaret is then pronounced princess while George and Marie are seized by the guards.
A brave red beak then sets forth to rescue George and Marie, but he doesn't actualize his plans as he falls into a deep sleep after taking a sleeping potion from the king's drink. Curley is then captured by the guards after he tries to step up. The whole group, including the king, is then set on stage as traders for the whole mice world to see.
Queen Charlotte then pronounces Charles as the new king as she thanks George for delivering their most sought-after relic. However, the king comes back to his senses when he is offered plain water instead of his usual sleeping potion. He challenges the evil queen, demanding an explanation.
Unfortunately, it is too late as she begins to play the magic flute. This makes the king and every human begin to dance to every rhythm the queen plays symbolically making the humans their slaves and play things. However, when Red Beak finally wakes up from his sleep, he realizes that his friends are in danger, so he runs over to help them.
His attacks disrupt the queen from playing the flute as she loses the magical flute to Marie. She tries to offer Marie everything she wants if she hands over the flute to her, but Marie gives the flute to the king instead. In a bid to correct all the wrongdoings, the king plays the flute, turning everyone back to their original state.
Due to the alliance with Queen Charlotte, Margaret is also turned into a mouse. They all celebrate their victory as the kingdom begins to blossom. However, during dawn, George realizes it is too late for Marie as she disappears into thin air.
Marie wakes up in her apartment back to her reality. Thinking it is all a dream, she decides to marry Mr Rder. Just then, Prince George arrives.
He informs Rder that he has bought all his debts. Prince George proposes to Marie, saying the spell has been lifted. Realizing it is no longer a dream, Red Beak and Curly appear.
The magic flute has given them life. The prince takes Marie to her new kingdom and they live happily ever after. The end.
