Hi, this is Skyler and for my topic I chose to talk about the different areas of the brain and going into the depths of the left and right side and their functions. Firstly, let's start off with some background. The cortex is the thin layer of tissue that covers the outside of the cerebral hemisphere or the two sides of the brain.
The cortex is responsible for the highest level of processing, cognition, and mental processes such as planning, decision making, perception, and language. It's what gives us our humanness. The cortex is divided into four distinct regions in the brain called loes.
The frontal lobe is located at the front of the brain, the forehead, and its main goal is for thinking, planning, and language. Uh the panal is located at the top sides of the brain. It main goal is to touch and certain cognitive processes.
The optical lobe is located at the back of the brain which plays a role in visual processing. Lastly, the temporal lobe is located below the ears and it plays a role in auditory processing and language. Looking at the two sides of the brain, people process language largely in the left hemisphere.
When damage is severe in the bronas area in the left frontal lobe, people are unable to produce understandable speech. And when the damage is in the right side of the brain, people are still able to understand what people are saying, but they have a hard time processing certain types of information such as visual stimul.
