why is it that russian submarines have windows but not the american ones and how come they don't crack under extreme pressures when submerged it's not what you think when american submarines are in transit between their port and their dive point they move on the surface of the water during which some personnel are in the open air at the top of the sail of the submarine to help maneuver the sub but russian submarines have long transit times and the harsh weather conditions that they encounter especially in the barren sea demand the personnel to stay in the
enclosed space of the sail which is why windows are needed but wouldn't those windows crack under extreme water pressures when the vessel is submerged and of course they would if the water pressure was only on the outside see the windows are located within the light hall of the submarine which gets flooded when the submarine submerges this means that the pressure equalizes on both sides of the windows so they don't crack only what's inside the pressure hall remains dry and the pressure hall has no windows
