this case takes place in the United States of America on the 1st of March 1995 born in 1974 and raised in New York City Kimberly grew up as the only child of Thomas and Leanne antonus her father Thomas was a wealthy executive who lavished his affection upon Kimberly despite the affluence that surrounded her and the money that her father would give her it said that she would remain grounded many who knew Kimberly described her as funloving and beautiful her parents divorced when she was young and she stayed in Staten Island with her father expressing a
deep attachment to her hometown as she entered adulthood kimbley pursued her education into the College of Staten Island going into the field of business just like her father eager to gain independence she sought to move out of her father's home when she was 20 her father helped with the move and and helped her Finance the property Thomas was however rather worried about her safety so Thomas took a number of precautions he rented a parking spot right next to her new property so she wouldn't have to look for a parking spot when she got home late
at night or be packed so far away from her home that she risked being mugged according to those who knew Kimberly she and her father were Incredibly Close they would message and call each other almost on a daily basis and soon after moving out kimbery got herself a new job by all accounts she was enjoying her life in 1995 kimbery offered a room in her apartment to a female friend of hers named April along with April's boyfriend April was having some Renovations done in her flat and she needed to vacate the property until the work
was completed upon hearing that her friend was in need Kimberly contacted her and said that she and her boyf boyfriend would be welcom to stay until the work would be completed April's boyfriend was a 23-year-old man named Joshua Torres this act of kindness would unwittingly set the stage for the tragic events that would follow Kimble's father Thomas would let us say that it was her goodness that was her weakness in the early morning of the 1st of March 1995 kimbery had returned home after a night out dancing with a friend she dropped her friend off
at around 48 a.m. and then made her way home the following morning however Kimberly never made it into work Kimberly wasn't one to skip work at the very least she would have called and told them in advance of her absence this prompted them to call Kimberly out of concern but she never picked up her phone later on into the day Thomas also tried to give his daughter a call to see how she was doing but again in this instance she never picked up her phone after kimbley didn't message him for some time he messaged a
friend of hers and asked if she had heard from kimbley the friend said they had not Thomas then found out that she never shut up for work that morning and had not contacted them to tell them where she was he then went over to Kimble's home only to discover that April had not seen her since she went out the night before Thomas then went to the garage he had rented for Kimberly he opened the door only to find that the car wasn't there growing increasingly worried he reported her missing to the police shortly after realizing
that something could be horribly wrong he walked into the police station after 24 hours of not hearing anything from kimbery and explained to the officers that kimbley would never just ignore all of those close to her and not show up for work he was adamant that something had happened to her and begged the police to work as soon as possible before it could be too late due to Thomas's persistence the police did take some action they put out an alert for Kimble's car but due to the fact that kimbley had only been missing for a
few hours this was all that was done during that time and the police didn't put it on high priority after a day passed Kimble's car was located a few miles away from the rented garage the car had been thoroughly cleaned and nobody was inside Thomas initiated his own search efforts to locate his missing daughter while Kimble's mother traveled from a different state to join in on the sech their Collective worry intensified with each passing day without news of their daughter's whereabouts because kimbery had shown kindness to April and Joshua Joshua insisted on helping out on
the search he accompanied Thomas in the search efforts handing out flyers and missing posters he even drove Thomas around in his car helping him look for kimbery the anxiety deepened when they found a an earring inside the garage that Thomas had rented and the earring was confirmed to be kimbery the police began to look into who kimbery had dated in the recent years Killers tend to be those closest to the victim so this is where the police focused they found that kimbley had dated a rather violent individual who went by the moniker psycho this psyo
was involved in organized crime and had a long history of violent crime he was interviewed by the police but there was no evidence to suggest that he was responsible for the murder of Kimberly he wasn't ruled out as a suspect but the police continued to look elsewhere days later the fire department received a call a man had noticed smoke coming from an abandoned building firefighters were sent to the scene and once they extinguished the Flames they conducted a routine search of the property this was when they made the horrific discovery that someone had indeed been
inside the abandoned property they found the Chad remains of a person who had been tied to a pole in the basement due to the fire the person's facial features had been destroyed to the point that there were no identifiable features left the body was taken away and an autopsy was conducted the polic med called to Thomas and they asked him if he would be able to get any of kimber's dental records the teeth of the body found in the B bement and kimber's dental records were cross referenced and tragically it came back as a match
the coroner had also determined that whoever had done this to kimbery had done so when she was conscious Kimberly had been burned alive the inside of her windpipe and lungs had been badly burned indicating that at some point she had inhaled deeply when she was being burned likely from the immense pain even seasoned officers who had witnessed some of the most horrific crimes were deeply disturbed by the murder no one could fathom why someone would do something so horrific to an innocent young woman the friend who had been living with Kimberly April was questioned along
with other friends but no one knew anything suspicions then turned to the occupants of the other houses where Kimble's apartment was located however investigations into the property owners residents and the neighbors yielded no leads the possibility of organized crime involvement was considered due to Thomas's business connections he owned a property for his fire Insurance business on a street that was owned by the mob it was theorized by the police that the murder could be retribution and that Thomas could have upset the wrong person although it seemed that Thomas had no affiliations with the mob and
this was ruled out months went by with no leads that that was until another murder occurred a man by the name of Joey nron was killed whilst he was walking with his wife she said that she had no idea who killed Joey due to them covering their face but she did provide the police with a name Joey was friends with April's boyfriend Joshua Torres and another man named Nick labretti the wife confided in the police telling them that Joey was scared of Joshua Torres and Nick right before he was killed he even said that if
anything were to happen to him it would have been done by Joshua Torres Joshua did have a criminal history involving charges of unlawful imprisonment a few months into The Disappearance Joshua and April had broken up and Joshua moved on beginning a relationship with a different woman Joshua and this new girlfriend had gotten into a heated argument resulting in Joshua making some serious threats against her he threatened his new girlfriend telling her that he had burnt a woman alive before and that he wouldn't hesitate to do it again upon hearing this she knew exactly what he
meant and who he was talking about fearing for her life the new girlfriend went to the police station and told them what she suspected she believed that Joshua Torres had killed kimbery the police now had enough to suspect that that Joshua was responsible for the crime Joshua along with his friend Nicola bretty were brought into the station both told that they were suspected of killing kimbery almost right away Nick began speaking he told the police that he Joey NE gron and Joshua had kidnapped kimbley that night but that it was Joshua who had actually killed
her another man named Julio was also named by Nick as someone who was involved Julio confessed the crimes and pointed a finger at Joshua too telling the police that Joshua had indeed killed kimbery the gang knew that Kimble's father Thomas had a significant amount of money the plan was to kidnap her and demand Ransom money from him they knew how close kimbery and her father were and they believed that he would hand over the money right away so whilst Joshua was living with kimbery in the apartment in Brooklyn he learned her routine and in the
early hours of the 1st of March under Joshua's orders Joey Negron and Nicholas labretti pulled kimbery from her car just as she arrived home from the night out they taped her eyes and mouth shut and bound her hands behind her back they stuffed her into the trunk of her own car and began playing music to drown out the noises coming from the trunk they then drove Kimberly to the abandoned home where she would later be killed the three men tied her to a pole in the basement and kept her there without food water or blankets
for 3 Days whilst kimbery was tied up Joshua had attempted to leave a voice message on Thomas's phone demanding a ransom he did so by using an electronic voice generator so his voice wouldn't be recognized however the voice message he sent didn't send properly Joshua wasn't aable to work the telephone and so Thomas never got the message Thomas would let say that if he did receive the message he would have paid them right away as the days passed kimbery endured the harrowing conditions of the basement totally alone without food or warmth she was left to
suffer in silence when they didn't hear back from Thomas they decided to end the whole ordeal after 3 days on the 4th of March the gang intended to release her Julio's responsibility in this whole thing was to check up on kimbery however Julio had neglected his duty leaving Kimberly all alone when Joshua Nick and Joey got the abandoned house they discovered that kimbery was no longer breathing properly and they believed that she would soon die confronted with the consequences of their actions they decided to dispose of the evidence by ding her in gasoline and setting
her a blaze in the subsequent legal proceedings Joshua Nick and Julio faced charges related to the pous acts committed against kimbery of course Joey had been killed but his role in the crime became evident through the evidence It is believed that Joey was thinking about speaking out against the gang and so Joshua decided to kill him the trial was held in November of 1996 the district attorney in presenting the case characterized the crime as brutal and senseless during the trial Joshua insisted that he had been set up by the others who were involved in the
case and stated that he had not killed kimbery and would never want to harm her Joshua Torres and Nicholas Lati were found guilty of second degree murder and were both sentenced to 58 years in prison because Julio nron was not involved in the actual kidnapping he received a comparatively shorter sentence of Just 2 to 6 years in prison before the sentencing Joshua offered his cond es to Kimble's family he insisted that he hadn't killed kimbley and referred to her as a precious Jewel as he spoke Kimble's mother placed her head on Thomas's shoulder and cried
according to the New York Times it was the first time she had faced her daughter's killer since the funeral which Joshua had actually attended Joshua was also tried for the murder of joa gron but he was found not guilty and the circumstance surrounding his death remain unsolved in 1999 Nicola bretty passed away and Julio has since been released the case of kimbley is as tragic as it is gruesome being burned alive is one of the most horrific ways to be killed those who worked on the cas said that if the killers were smarter and knew
