hello and welcome back I'm Barbara O'Neal and today we're going to dive into the world of natural remedies made from herbs herbs have been used for centuries as powerful tools for healing and maintaining health and they remain an essential part of natural medicine today in this lecture we'll explore some of the most effective herbs you can use to support your health whether you're looking to boost your immune system improve digestion or simply enhance your overall well-being I'll also share how you can easily incorporate these Herbal Remedies into your daily life so let's get started but
what I'd like to begin with today I'd like to begin with slippy Elm now slippy Elm is the powdered bark of the slipp tree and slipp can be used externally and it can be used internally and yesterday one of the last puses we did was a combination of slippy and charcoal do you remember that and and that was a pus used for variety of things yeah beasting was bites uh any case of poisoning uh I also mentioned that it can be used for very upset stomach and of course I be used for a congested chest
I did also mention that Jethro Closs in his book back to Eden he says that the uh slip Su is one of the deeper drawers I did talk about castor oil yesterday that it penetrates very very deep but the the Castoro is totally different it's not drawing anything out so it's important to to know the differences it comes from the castol plant the castol penetrates very deep it breaks up lumps bumps congestions adhesions scar tissues the slippery armm goes deep but it draws it's a drawer so that's where it can be used externally the slip
realm can also be used on the scalp and to use it on the scalp now the herb that is a specific for all scalp issues so we might look at scalp for a moment for all scalp issues is Rosemary and this is Rosemary essential oil the essential oils are expensive but please remember that it takes about a whole bucket of the herb to get almost one drop of the oil so no wonder they're expensive but it's important to remember that realizing that they're also very very strong so your scalp herb is your Rosemary do does
it have to be an essential oil you can make a tea with that but of course it won't be as strong but then again you could you could bring it to the boil and slowly simmer a lot of Rosemary in a little water and you can certainly make it a lot stronger so anything to do with the head you would use rosemary essential oil so with the scalp we've got a few issues there and one can be um headloss so with headlice you can paint the scalp with slippery arm you put water with it to
make it like a soft gel but with headlice so we're looking at slippery elm we're making these are all the things you can do with slippery arm when we're looking at the scalp so with slippery arm if you're going to use it for headlice you got to put something in there that's incredibly strong so you can use th oil so th essential oil is very very strong and the headlice hate it so what you can do is you could make let's say for this you would do half a cup of slippery arm and in that
half a cup you might put 1 and 1/2 cups of water so so in that mix you might put probably six drops of thyme essential oil and that's very very strong but you you've got quite you've got about a cup and a half of of gel and how would you paint the scalp what you do is you and before I was a psychiatric nurse I was a hairdresser so when we used to die hair we we divide the head into sections and then we'd we'd put put the comb in and paint one bit and then
and then paint another bit and then paint another bit so you get the the Gest so that the whole head is covered with this this mixture that can uh kill headlice and then you would keep that all wrapped up you could put a shower cap on or plastic bag around and tie it in a knot you would want to keep it there for about 4 hours so headlight that can be used for that what about if someone's got a very dry scalp um dandruff or sometimes psorasis in the scalp the slip realm can be excellent
for cleaning that up and nourishing it slippery elm is also known for its soothing properties making it an excellent remedy for various skin conditions for example if if someone is dealing with Burns wounds or even boils a pus made from slippery elm can be applied directly to the affected area the mucilage in slippery elm creates a protective barrier promoting healing and reducing inflammation internally slippery elm can be a powerful Ally in Digestive Health it can soothe the lining of the stomach and intestines making it useful for those suffering from conditions like gastritis ulcers or irritable
bowel syndrome mixing the powdered bark with warm water creates a soothing gel-like substance that can coat the digestive tract and provide relief from irritation additionally slippery elm has a mild laxative effect which can be beneficial for those dealing with constipation however it's gentle enough that it doesn't cause the cramping or discomfort that some stronger laxatives might induce for respiratory issues slippery elm can also be used used to alleviate symptoms of a sore throat or cough its soothing properties help to calm irritation in the throat making it easier to breathe and swallow so now we come
to the sinus and you find many people with sinus problems and in the Mayo Clinic in the 1990s a group of doctors discovered that sinus problems are due to fungus and we had an ear nose and Thro specialist nurse to our program and she said you wouldn't believe the green slime we pull out of people's sinuses and she said the doctors acknowledg it is a fungus so so what why is it growing there why it's usually because the person has a wheat Dairy might be oat peanut allergy and whenever there's an allergy excess mucus have
you heard people snorting people snort a bit when they you know the snort they might do it when they've got a cold but some people just do it all the time you know that that you know what that tells me straight away they got analogy because when there's analogy the the body makes excess mucus so if a person's eating these foods and they've got this excess mucus blowing their nose all day or maybe blowing it every morning that tells me they've got an allergy but you know what else is happening they don't don't know that
sometimes people think this is life I just do this so what happens up what's happening up here we're getting a little bit of irritation we're getting a little bit of damage now our cells evolve into a bacterial and then fungal form to clean up the waste can you see the evolution of the fungal developing there that's the that's the main reason because if fungus is living up there there there's a reason sometimes it can be breathing in mold or breathing in uh chemicals causing irritation there causing the excess mucus and sometimes that's fed because the
person's drinking Coca-Cola every day and can you see it can be a whole lot of factors whole lot of factors so to to heal sinus number one in case of sickness course should be ascertained number two wrong habits corrected unhealthful conditions change get out of the moldy house change jobs so you're not breathing in chemicals all day change the diet then nature is to be assisted in her efforts to expel impurities and reestablish right conditions in the body and what they can do is they can breathe in hot steam you know that old hot steam
but you know what most people they get relief while they're breathing in the hot steam with maybe a bit of eucalyptus oil on but you notice 10 minutes later it's clogged again the reason is they don't end the treatment with with cold ice cold wipes over their face because they finished the treatment now they've got these open Poise and this this hot skin that can chill against cold air every hot treatment should be finished with cold cold water but what they can also do is they can sniff golden seal powder because what's our sinus lined
with mucus and remember what mucus is what what the tonic to mucus is golden seal so we get them to put a little bit see there's a little dip in the hand there and it's traditionally was called the snuff dip because in the old days people would put their snuff there and sniff so they can use their little snuff Dipper I've got quite a nice one nice little dip there but what you have to do is they have to go to a mirror so that they can see when their nostril is over their their little
snuff diff dip and you just put the tiniest amount in you only want to put a tiny Manny remember this stuff's expensive and you don't need much to further support sinus Health hydration plays a crucial role drinking plenty of water helps keep mucus thin and more manageable making it easier for the body to expel it staying hydrated can also reduce the likelihood of sinus infections by preventing mucus from becoming too thick and sticky additionally maintaining a clean environment is important regularly cleaning dust and mold from your home can reduce irritants that contribute to sinus issues
using air purifiers can help help remove Airborne allergens and pollutants that might otherwise aggravate sinus problems regular exercise can also benefit sinus health physical activity helps improve circulation which can support better mucous drainage and overall respiratory function exercise also promotes General Wellness which can help the body better handle allergens and infections one more thing you can do with aloe vera and that is to make suppositories so how do you make a suppository with aloe vera you cut the flesh the size of your little finger so you thinly slice it one side you not get a
nice thick leave and then you freeze that and people can use that for uh for hemorrhoids internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids how do they know if they've got internal hemorrhoids when they do a bowel movement and there's red blood there red blood means they're just bleeding near the opening and of course external hemorrhoids they really know that is there and we also talked about the sits bars hot and CS is very good for that and there's there's another one so the suppository in fact we we've got a section in our freezer where we've got we've
got a whole lot of them and another suppository is our cast oil but castor oil takes 3 days to freeze and what you do you moisten a cotton ball with it and mold it to like your little finger and remember 3 days to freeze and it must of course be inserted Frozen that can also help a lot with hemorrhoids what about skin what about Eczema soris what can you put on the skin you know there's not much because eczema and psorisis are from internal and the skin is the last section out eczema oror is is
an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that arise because of a violation of the laws of health so one of the laws of Health that's violated can even be exposure to mold so not not fresh air mold can be a factor we had a guy come from Saudi Arabia who had very severe uh psorasis the back of his neck was like crocodile skin he was 40 now he had improved because he found a he found a website and it was called cortisone induced eczema and he'd been applying cortisone for 20 years and
he had what they called cortisone induced eczema it got to the point where the cortisone was basically causing it and apparently a German doctor resides over this site and he says you just got to stop the cortisone you've just got to stop it you're going to go through she hell for about 3 months just live in a bath and people that do have uh skin problems very itchy they and find a bath with a a bag of oats in it and squeeze the oat water in that can be that can be relieving and I and
there's a pine substance that you can buy and put in a bath and that apparently can be relieving so when he came to us he'd gone through the worst he had a few little red itchy bits on his arms the back of his neck was quite bag he ate a lot of peanuts a lot of wheat a lot of Oats a lot of refined sugar so we advised him on that we don't serve any of that at our health retreat at the end of two weeks and he had the steams every night he really enjoyed
the steams diving in the cold water back from there he felt so good he was there with his wife they were Malaysian at the end of the two weeks he said said we're a little disappointed that you know it it has not improved very much and I smiled I said you know it takes two months to get the residue of those allergens out of the body so you got to give it two months even though you haven't had any and how many people stopped them and after a month they say well it's not doing anything
they haven't given it enough time in addition to using aloe vera and castor oil making some lifestyle changes can also improve skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis eating a balanced diet with lots of Whole Foods can be really helpful focus on drinking plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and flush out toxins avoiding sugar and refined carbs can reduce inflammation and help your skin heal faster incorporating foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids like fatty fish and nuts can also soothe irritated skin probiotics found in foods like yogurt and kefia can support gut
health which might positively affect your skin regular exercise can improve blood flow and help your body get rid of toxins which benefits your skin as well managing stress is another key factor high stress levels can worsen skin issues so finding ways to relax through activities like meditation or yoga can make a difference but there are some herbs that can help with sleep so we have a tinure that we make and it's passion flour passion flour sues the passions I think that's why they call it passion flow and of course that's a flower skull cap skull
cap is a dried herb St John's wart St John's wart is also a dried herb leaf and flour that's flour I think that's leaf and we call this mix our relax herbs these all are mild tranquilizers mild sedatives so if someone's coming off uh alcohol we've had people come off methamp Vines we've had people come off marijuana methadone we even had a champagne alcoholic do our program lots of smokers coming off smoke smoking we give them that three times a day and I make it in a tincture form the way that I uh described before
the beauty of the tinure form is they can have a spoonful even every half hour well rarely do they have to do that John's wart is a nerve nourisher so it nourishes the nerves and when people are coming off these stimulants their nerves are on edge and at night we put in a stronger tranquilizer sedative and it's Valerian and so we put these three together there out we call them our relaxed herbs and then when we add that we call that our sleepy herbs you can buy them in a tablet form you can buy them
in a capsule form so that's number one another one number two some people find that melatonin helps and as you'll see when I talk about sleep it's a naturally occurring hormone from the I'm from the pineal gland some people find that magnesium puts them to sleep it's a muscle relaxant so it can certainly relax to put to put people to sleep but looking at herbs they're they're probably the main herbs I have had ladies find that when they go on the Anna's wild yam cream they start start sleeping better much depends on why they can't
sleep when it all started the different factors that are coming together and I'll be looking at that in more detail when we look at sleep but basically they're the herbs for some people this has a great effect for some people it hardly makes any differ so you you try the different things pardon yes Camal Camal is a m tranquilizers probably a little milder than those but some people find just the chamomile te helps so if someone's very stressed out we find that this sleepy sorry the relaxed herbs can make a big difference and sometimes if
a person's really stressed out we just give them a hot foot bath this is a straight hot foot bath not hot and Cals just feed in hot water for maybe 20 minutes yeah I know that Len white was negative towards cinnamon but banana and cinnamon works really well also for sleep well banana stimulates melatonin stimulates banana banana stimulates the re release of melatonin that's why it's a great evening meal for the children in addition to the herbs and remedies mentioned there are other approaches that can support better sleep one common method is maintaining a consistent
sleep schedule going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps regulate your internal clock and can improve the quality of your sleep creating a relaxing bedtime routine can also be beneficial this might include activities such as reading a book taking a warm bath or practicing gentle stretching exercises avoiding screens and stimulating activities at least an hour before bedtime helps signal to your body that it's time to wind down a comfortable sleep environment plays a crucial role as well ensuring that your bedroom is cool dark and quiet can enhance Sleep Quality using
blackout curtains earplugs or a white noise machine may be helpful for creating a more conducive sleep setting additionally it's important to monitor your diet and avoid heavy meals caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime as these can disrupt sleep incorporating calming herbal teas like chamomile or Valyrian root can complement these practices and further promote relaxation and restful sleep thank you for joining me as we explored the healing power of herbs and how they can be used as natural remedies I hope you feel empowered to start incorporating these herbs into your life to support your health naturally
