okay so let's talk about the M1 MacBook Pro from 2020 now this laptop released in November of 2020 it was an absolute Powerhouse right out of the gate it came out at the same time as the M1 chipset which was an absolute game Cher in the chip industry and now this was Apple's in-house built chip this was their first year of releasing this and it put a lot of pressure on other chip manufacturers to improve and create more efficient chip sets Apple used a lot of arbitrary charts to show this but across the board it
was acknowledged that these were phenomenal chips when they released it they basically recycled the same laptop bodies that they had been using and so they used the same casing that was used for that Intel Edition that was released the year before with features such as the very Infamous and divisive touch bar uh that has created a stir in the Apple Community but we're not here to talk about what it was like when it launched we're here to talk about what is it it like now in 2024 what's it all about what is the experience like
3 and 1/2 or 4 years later almost and is it something that an experienced user would recommend so let's Jump Right In from a performance perspective the MacBook Pro it delivers on every front I do a lot of light rendering things that require a little bit of a push from a performance perspective I'm not by any means a pro user however my experience using Da Vinci resolve has been nothing short of excellent it's showing you things that you should be seeing after post render in real time with pretty much no leg which is incredible now
some of the things like for example if I have a lot of objects on the screen like big confetti burst or something like that sometimes it'll lag or stutter which is totally okay I have to render it and kind of view it and post but let's say I've edited like a 6-minute video it will render that video in like a minute and a half which is completely absurd in my opinion that's so fast I never have to leave it's quick I can quickly see what I've rendered after it is just a speed demon when it
comes to uh video editing performance of course could it be better yeah of course it could be better is it enough for my use case yes and for my workflow absolutely it's so efficient the battery lasts an incredible amount of time I've never had a laptop lasts this long I am often forgetting that I even need to plug it in it'll last days at a time and I I would not claim to be a beginner user I'm using it for heavy things I'm using it for photo editing I'm using it for video editing these are
very power hungry activities and this laptop is killing it for me it's absolutely so reliable and in terms of traveling with it I I just never feel like it's going to be a problem for me I never feel like I'm going to run out of battery so 10 out of 10 battery performance even after 2 and 1/2 years of use I still have no problems with this device here's a few things that I would say would be the short comings of this device so number one is the M1 chip does not support multiple external monitors
it will support one so you can have one external monitor attached to your laptop but that's it I would say for like 85% of users it's plenty if you're doing a lot of multitasking for example and you need many many windows having Just One external monitor is honestly not enough now to circumvent this I actually ended up purchasing this bad boy right here it's a uh 34 in Ultra widescreen alien wear monitor which has been the best I use it for work I use it for video editing the colors the contrast ratio all those beautiful
things it's it's a great device I'll have to do a video on that another time but it is super wide so I'm able to accomplish those things but not everybody is going to spend you know upwards of $1,300 on an external monitor just to you know circumvent this issue of only being able to use one so that to me is a thumbs down the other thing that I would say hasn't really aged well is the webcam oh boy it's like a 5-year-old piece of Hardware again they recycled the body they recycled a lot of the
components in this laptop so this was one of them and by 2024 standards this webcam is trash it's just not good if you want to use this laptop for like video calls Zoom calls anything like that you're going to be super disappointed it does not look good so yeah that's just a huge thumbs down it's just not impressive at all now the new laptops that they've put out the new Macbook Pros and the new Macbook airs they all have new webcam hardware and it's amazing it looks so much better it's finally with the times I
think it's like actually 1080P and not like negative 340p like this one is that's a that's a thumbs down as well another big disadvantage of this computer it only has two USBC ports which is so disappointing so I actually purchased the 6 16 GB of RAM uh version and it also Sports 128 GB of storage which for a content creator yeah that's just not enough that was my bad when I purchased it I cheaped out I didn't want to buy more onboard storage to circumvent this I have since bought myself a Samsung t7 external SSD
with about 2 terab of onboard storage which has been a lifesaver so that SSD just lives plugged into my laptop and therefore I really only have one available port at all times which is so disappointing of course you can buy these USBC hubs from a portability perspective you have to have this dongle that's constantly on your laptop it's just not pretty it's not ideal it takes away from the portability of the laptop and it's just not a great user experience that to me is a huge thumbs down now in terms of this uh laptop's actual
screen the laptop's actual screen is really beautiful it has very vibrant colors the blacks are quite dark it's not an OLED screen but but it performs really well it has a really TR I think it's called true tone so it adapts to the lighting conditions it really Sports a very warm color tone so if that's kind of what you like then this is definitely a very impressive screen by 2024 standards I'd say the colors are still very accurate and great the refresh rate it's acceptable there nothing to write home to Mom about what I would
say is not really with the times is the bezels you'll see that the the latest and greatest 2023 and 2024 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro they have much smaller bezels you know that hasn't aged very well of course and it will will continue to age poorly but it's not something that I really care about cuz I'm usually plugging the laptop in and then using an external monitor anyway so for me that doesn't really matter it's mostly if I'm traveling that I would notice um but yeah that's something to consider when you're looking at this product
the other thing I would say in terms of portability and weight it's very much acceptable it's very durably made like Apple makes their laptops solidly they're made with really solid material they're weighty without being overweight they're very extremely portable and sleek and the keyboards feel great ever since Apple did away with the I think they were called The Butterfly Keys something like that ever since they did away with that they have all felt the typing has felt excellent the mouse pad is incredible I don't know what apple is doing that other companies are not doing
but the experience is phenomenal all the gestures the feeling of the click even though it's a haptic touch click it's incredible if you're a gamer I don't know why you would even be considering this laptop or any of the Apple laptops to be quite honest you can do some light gaming on this computer it's not that it's completely incapable it's just that if you're a serious gamer this is just not going to be the device for you there's way more gaming PCs that you should be looking at and not this one okay so the verdict
so if you're currently in the market for a new laptop I'm going to separate it depending on your budget if you have a very low budget but want to experience an Apple laptop buying new right now is probably not an option if you want to spend less than $1,000 but have an amazing experience this laptop will be just fine for you yeah it has some shortcomings that we talked about throughout the video but I think overall in terms of of raw performance and what it can do for you for the money this laptop is exceptional
and I highly recommend it even in 2024 now if money is not an object for you or you've been saving up for a brand new laptop so you have at least $22,000 to spend then I would avoid buying this in 2024 go ahead and buy the MacBook Air or if you have a little bit more money to spend upgrade it to the MacBook Pro you're just going to be getting a few extra features that are much more with the times things like smaller bezels a better webcam the screen that's has has a better resolution a
better performing chip that is more efficient yeah of course I would recommend buying the latest and greatest pro or even the air but overall I would say that the M1 MacBook Pro is a solid device even now in 2024 it's a device that has withstood the test of time there's a reason that Apple was able to confidently recycle this body it's something that was tried and tested and true for so many years you will not be disappointed by the experience that you'll have with the M1 chip what you might find is that the actual physical
Hardware is feeling a little dated in 2024 I would still recommend this device for somebody who might be on a budget and still wants that raw performance that Apple's chipset will provide so thanks so much for watching my video I've really enjoyed putting out videos for you and really talking about things that I love to talk about I really encourage you to leave comments on my videos and let me know what are some ways that I can improve my content how I can make it a little bit better for you I have a full-time job
job and I am a mother of one beautiful daughter and I am trying my best to put out as much content as I can but I do have to produce this uh after work hours and after spending time with my daughter so there's only so much time in a day it turns out but I'll continue putting out as much as I can as fast as I can stick with me I have lots more content planned for you in the year of 2024 I just want to say thank you for those of you who stuck with
me all this time I hope to keep uh keep on keeping on if you know what I mean again wishing everybody a happy 2024 I'll see you all in the next one see you
