Welcome back! In this video, we'll talk about the ethical principle of justice. It basically means that the physician has to practice fairness in all medical decisions.
This can be limited, as in treating a patient, or widespread, as in distributing scarce resources to communities in need. First, you have to be impartial and fair. You also have to treat patients equitably, not equally, which means that in certain scenarios, it's fair for some patients to come first before others.
For example, if a patient had carpal tunnel surgery on Tuesday but another patient came in the same day with acute abdomen, in this scenario, the patient with carpal tunnel came first, but the other patient's condition is more life-threatening. If the roles were reversed, the first patient would want to be treated the same way. And here's a small quiz: try to identify whether or not justice was practiced in this example.
And here is the answer. Alright, guys, that's all I have. Thank you so much for watching!
