well hey guys in today's video i'm going to be reviewing the popular true skin vitamin c facial serum you all know i don't use vitamin c in my skincare routine vitamin c is very unstable and it's challenging for manufacturers to actually formulate a product that not only keeps the vitamin c stable but allows it to get into the skin and provide skin benefits so for that reason i just avoid vitamin c serums but i'm always getting requests please review this vitamin c serum please review that so i've reviewed a ton of them on my channel
and this has been a highly requested one in today's video i'm going to be going through the ingredients i'm going to be telling you is this product worth your 20 which is how much it costs or is it just another cash grab when it comes to the health of your skin i'm a huge advocate of lifestyle factors they carry you a lot further than any serum is going to things like getting a good night's sleep managing your stress getting some exercise and eating a balanced diet that has healthy fats fruits vegetables vitamins minerals antioxidants all
those good things to provide the building blocks for healthy skin including the beverages that you drink we have a lot of research showing the health benefits of drinking tea it is packed with antioxidants i personally love and adore peak tea today's video is in partnership with peak tea i've been drinking peak tea since actually the beginning of my channel pt uses this really cutting edge cold extraction method to really preserve all the beneficial compounds in the teas the antioxidants the vitamins and minerals and the crystals dissolve very quickly in either hot or cold water so
zero prep and there's no sugar no artificial sweeteners no preservatives taste delicious super high quality and they triple screen all of their teas for toxins heavy metals peak tea has over 20 award-winning flavors that you can choose from but i'm going to tell you about some of my favorites first and foremost is their sun goddess matcha tea really rich in antioxidants it's 100 ceremonial grade matcha their matcha is shaded longer which allows for extra l-theanine l-theanine is great for stress and providing you energy without the jitters their matcha is really smooth i actually like to
make it in my milk frother and a little bit of almond milk then there's the electric turmeric i really love the vibrant appearance of this tea the way it looks it's got okinawa turmeric which is packed with curcumins which are anti-inflammatory and the turmeric is fermented for enhanced bioavailability the tea has ayurvedic herbs including ginger that can help enhance the bioavailability of the curcumin speaking of vitamin c the hibiscus beauty elixir is a great source of dietary vitamin c for supporting healthy collagen and glowing radiant skin the ginger digestion tea is one of my favorites
to have after a meal good for digestion and it's got anti-inflammatory gingerol in it the herbal mint tea is really good after a meal it just helps freshen your breath it has spearmint in it they've won like three gold medals at the national tea championship they have over fifteen thousand five star reviews so they're really popular they're well liked peak tea offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so if you don't like the teas or there's something about them that you're not happy with you can get your money back but if you haven't tried them check
the link in my description box i have a coupon code dr dre will save you five percent off peak tea all right vitamin c if you're not familiar is ascorbic acid it's a potent antioxidant and when applied to the skin there are some studies showing that it can not only improve hyperpigmentation but also can boost up collagen production remove sun damage smooth out wrinkles unfortunately it's a really challenging ingredient for manufacturers to work with it's not stable it degrades pretty readily it's susceptible to degradation on exposure to air light heat it's water loving and so
that makes it really difficult for it to actually get into your skin your waxy skin barrier the best vitamin c product on the market is a skinceutical ce for rule like it's a patented formulation that includes ingredients namely ferulic acid and vitamin e which have been shown in their formula to help stabilize the vitamin c and to help increase penetration of the vitamin c into the skin now because it's patented they can't other manufacturers can't copy it so they will tweak things here and there as far as the formulation and the ph but it's really
hard to get it just right because they have patented the formula so there are a lot of you know dupes out there but they aren't exact dupes and therefore it's really hard to say to what extent if at all vitamin c in those products is actually going to get into the skin but you also have some alternative forms of ascorbic acid that are more stable and that is what the true skin vitamin c serum uses it uses sodium and scorpio phosphate this is basically a salt of ascorbic acid it is a lot more stable but
it's still challenging for it to get into the skin and once it's in the skin it has to be converted to ascorbic acid in order to do anything we don't have good studies showing that that actually occurs so sodium ascorbyl phosphate while it is a lot more stable is it actually getting in is it actually getting converted to ascorbic acid really doesn't seem too likely but it's an easier ingredient to work with and if a company wants to make a vitamin c serum it's definitely a more attractive option for them because they can use it
more easily and say hey here's our vitamin c serum and people will just buy it because everybody wants to use a vitamin c serum i mean it's one of the most popular skin care ingredients it's one of the most highly searched and sought after skincare ingredients one of the most hyped skincare ingredients so if you're a skincare company you're almost obligated to have a vitamin c serum and who wants to deal with making it right when you can just use one of these easier forms and you don't because and because vitamin c serums are non-drug
cosmetics they don't have to prove that it actually works sodium ascorbyl phosphate does show a little bit of promise for people with acne perhaps by reducing the oxidation of sebum which is the oil and that is part of what drives acne but that's a very small study otherwise we don't have a lot of research in support of sodium ascorbyl phosphate as a true you know alternative to vitamin c that's actually going to have the outcome of boosting up collagen production now because it's an antioxidant you may appreciate a skin brightening effect with this now this
product does have vitamin e in it another antioxidant that exhibits synergy with vitamin c this product doesn't have ferulic acid which in my opinion is a key ingredient in a vitamin c serum ferulic acid is a helpful ingredient for stabilizing ascorbic acid now this doesn't have ascorbic acid in it has a salt sodium and scorpio phosphate but ferulic acid is still a really beneficial ingredient to include in a vitamin c serum not only is it a potent antioxidant not only does it help improve the outcome of use of vitamin c serum but by itself it's
a potent uh tyrosinase inhibitor so you really get a nice skin brightening effect with ferulic acid you get a lightening of freckles sunspots with topical ferulic acid in my opinion a lot of the benefit that people observe when using vitamin c serums comes from likely the ferulic acid or a humectant in the product that is improving skin hydration and smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in this product there is a polysaccharide which is a humectant that will help in improving skin hydration this product also has msm methyl sulfonyl methane which is a
natural source of sulfur that may have some anti-rheumatia properties anti-redness properties and may be helpful for acne sulfur as a reminder is anti-inflammatory and can help with acne and rosacea i have a video all about sulfur by the way anyways it has an msm in there so you may you know notice some improvement and just redness irritation because of that ingredient go to cola or sentella asiatica is an ingredient in this product that uh by itself contains a lot of different tri-tropic acids that can improve skin hydration improves skin elasticity and have been shown at
least matticasocide one of them has been shown to improve the appearance of wrinkles and skin roughness when used in conjunction with five percent vitamin c in a very small study so you're getting the plant extract from which that ingredient is derived matticastocide in this and it's a good ingredient i have videos describing the benefits of gotu kola or centella asiatica as it's otherwise known as in in other videos ingredients in this that can potentially be irritating include witch hazel witch hazel is an astringent but some people do develop irritation to witch hazel this also has
um dandelion and geranium which can be irritating potentially or you may develop an allergy to those they're just not really necessary in the formulation and it has jojoba seed oil in it which is a nice emollient you're going to get a skin smoothing effect with that ingredient my opinion of this product is that a it's not a dupe for a reputable vitamin c serum it uses a form of vitamin c as a salt of ascorbic acid that is just not well studied it has not really been shown to convert to ascorbic acid in the skin
and yield these benefits that presumably you are hoping for when you reach for a vitamin c serum namely boosting up of collagen production to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines but otherwise i don't think per say that this product is necessarily bad the texture is a lot i would say almost creamier smoother in comparison to other vitamin c serums it doesn't have ferulic acid in it and that ferulic acid tends to be a little irritating for many people and for that reason i think if you have very sensitive skin you've had irritation with other vitamin
c products then you may find that you tolerate this a lot better but whether or not the vitamin c in this is doing anything for you i'm very very doubtful in my opinion this product is just another cash grab vitamin c serum i don't really think that you are getting your vitamin c's worth in this i think instead you are getting a moisturizer which you know you may like this product maybe it's you know not irritating to you and you enjoy using it in which case fine it's not bad per se but if you are
buying this thinking that you are getting a vitamin c i think you are being misled which is common in the vitamin c market one of the reasons i'm reviewing more vitamin c serums is to illustrate to you guys the variety of forms of vitamin c that are being sold to you under the umbrella of a vitamin c serum but very few of these ingredients have the research behind them that a well-formulated ascorbic acid product does with the ferulic acid and vitamin e so you're not really getting these gold standard ingredients let alone you're not getting
getting the patented formulation that has been shown to actually work i mean i don't recommend you guys spend your time and efforts on vitamin c serums for the many reasons that i have outlined in my videos but if you really really want to use one i think you're going to be misled by a product like this because sodium is square bill phosphate it simply just does not have the data behind it that ascorbic acid plus vitamin e plus ferulic acid do in terms of smoothing out wrinkles fine lines improving skin texture hydration hyperpigmentation all of
those things removing sun damage i mean that's really why you're choosing a vitamin c serum my personal experience trying this product out i did try it out it's not irritating um i applied it to my skin in the morning after cleansing to damp skin to allow for enhanced penetration of the ingredients allowed to absorb and then applied sunscreen on over it and didn't develop any irritation so i don't think that it's per se a bad product i just think it's misleading let me know in the comments though if you have tried anything from true skin
either this vitamin c serum or any of their other products they have quite a few actually um but as i said i don't use a vitamin c serum for you know the issues around the stability and the penetration it just you know doesn't really seem worthwhile to me i would rather focus on sunscreen and retinol and you know hydroxy acids were necessary than this but i know a lot of people request these reviews so that is why i continue to review these products but honestly lifestyle factors will take you so much further in your journey
to healthier skin than a serum like this if you're in the market for a good quality tea definitely check out peak tea on the next slide i'm going to put a video of me reviewing the um solstice vitamin c serum that you can also get on amazon so if you missed that review definitely check it out on the next slide but if you like this video give it a thumbs up share with your friends and as always don't forget sunscreen and subscribe i'll talk to you guys tomorrow bye [Music] you
