it is now less than a month until we hear Apple reveal their new iPhone 16 series promising bigger screens and better battery life new colors a new button faster charging better connectivity Apple intelligence so let's talk about it is it actually going to be worth getting excited about well we're going to get new iPhone 16s and 16 Pros also most likely a refreshed Apple series 10 watch and possibly new airpods as well but I want to focus on the new iPhones what we know so far but first in terms of timing we're expecting Apple's event to be on Tuesday September the 10th I don't know if I'm going to be there yet hopefully I get an invite we'll have to see if I've been a good boy this year but I reveal on the 10th and then most likely a launch on the 20th like 10 days later so you'll probably be able to get your hands on a new iPhone 16 end of September in terms of the iPhone models we're likely to see a pretty similar setup to what we have right now with an iPhone 16 a 16 plus 16 Pro and the Big Daddy A6 Pro Max now this is the 15 Pro Max 6. 7 in screen but if the rumors are to be believed we're actually going to see a slight bump in screen size for both the uh Pro and the pro Max so the pro will go from 6. 1 to 6.
3 the pro Max 6. 7 to 6. 9 in making the 16 Pro Max the biggest iPhone ever now that will partly be through thinner bezels which is actually going to be quite impressive given how thin these already are but of course we did have this new titanium uh frame introduced with the 15 series which made the pros quite a bit lighter do I want a bigger Pro Max I don't know however the regular iPhone 16 and 16 plus will remain at the same sizes so it's not going to be a significant change to design the most obvious one will be the couple of new colors but also this diagonal camera layout will now be vertical oh boy the idea is that that will allow it to support spatial Vision recording so you can buy your cheaper iPhone and then pair it with your 3 and a 12,000 Vision Pro to be fair spal video recording is only currently available on the pro model so that is a know trickle down feature there but I'm not sure anyone's going to care that much about that sticking with the design though and one of the changes we had with the 15 Pro Series was the uh change from the mute toggle switch to this action button this customizable action button which right now I've got set to uh take a picture however I can actually free this up now because if the reports are to be believed we're actually going to have a new dedicated shutter button like we've had on the Sony Xperia phone since the beginning of time but I'm actually kind of excited about this because you'll be able to half or lightly press to refocus very similar to what you have on a proper camera with a FMA press taking the photo while starting the recording and you'll be able to zoom in and out by swiping along the button as well so for the 16 series we're going to get the action button come down to the regular uh 16 phones and also a new uh shutter button on both which is all very nice but if I could ask for one thing Apple just let me pause my video recording let me switch between the rear and the front cameras while recording I can do it on my Samsung phone I can do it on a lot of Android phones now in terms of the screen we're expecting the iPhone 16s with their OLED panels to be 20% brighter now up to 1200 nits thanks to new micro lens array or MLA Tech which recently we've seen in some TVs so potentially a brighter screen and also as I mentioned earlier thinner bezels as well hopefully to accommodate that slightly bigger screen and apparently this will only be possible thanks to a new BRS system a border reduction structure sounds like something Trump would like to be honest but that'll help reduce the bezels while maintaining structural Integrity although I'm sure we're going to see Jerry RG everything pretty quickly uh give this a nice B but we're still expecting the regular iPhone 16s to have a 60 HZ screen basically the 2025 model of a phone that will probably start around 800 60 60 HZ I know the argument is well the average person doesn't really care but the average person doesn't know what they're missing until they have it and the fact that you have to pay like 300 pound more to get a 120 HZ promotion on the pro phones honestly we've been saying this for like three years how unforgivable it is that it's still a 60 HZ display on the iPhone you can tell I'm getting frustrated hopefully I'll be proved wrong fingers crossed so so far we're talking about new colors new capture button for the camera action button going to the regular 16s uh slightly bigger screens for the pro and pro Max with thinner bezels it's nothing too exciting so far is it let's talk about what's going on on the inside with the new processors this is a bit more interesting because we're going to get the a18s now the big whoop to do this year obviously is about neural engine performance the mpu because we've got Apple intelligence well I say we've got Apple intelligence America has Apple intelligence it's going to be a pretty slow roll out they've already delayed it a little bit to iOS 18.
1 so it's going to be after launch that Apple intelligence will come with a software update but for now and for however long who knows it is going to be us us English only we actually can't get it here in the UK or anywhere else in the world just yet so we're going to see a big push with the performance of the AI but for a lot of people it's not going to make much difference at least straight away actually going back bit what we don't know is whether the 16 will have the a18 and this will have the pro or this will stick with the a17 pro from last year and this will get the 18 Pro or in fact they'll just all use an a18 chip but the regular phone will have like a slightly lower Bend model with a couple of cores disabled there's some talk that they'll slightly change up the naming scheme of the processors in these but crucially as usual the Pro Models will be a little bit faster I think we can expect a small but meaningful boost to single core multi-core and graphics performance but a much heftier boost to the neural engine pu and there is a rumored bump in Ram from 6 to 8 GB which again is very much AI focused because it turns out running AI locally on your device actually uses quite a bit of ram what I'm more excited about though is the rumor of a new graphine based design uh to help cool the phone because one of my biggest issues with the iPhone as great as it is as powerful it is it gets too hot gaming we get throttling performance goes down it gets really hot in the back even with using the camera uh it can overheat sometimes and frequently when I've got the brightness maxed out if I'm you know using it outside on a sunny day it'll say your iPhone's too hot needs to cool down even when I'm wireless charging there's definitely an overheating issue with the current phones so hopefully with this new graphine design which we have seen in some Android phones it'll help keep the 16 Pros cooler that actually would be a legitimate worthy upgrade and paired with the reports of a slightly bigger battery and hopefully a more efficient processor especially if more tasks can be offloaded from the CPU and GPU onto the mpu we may actually end up with a decent Improvement to battery life with the pro and pro Max having a 5 or 6% larger battery and there's more finally finally we're getting slightly faster charging I can't even remember the last time Apple put some effort into charging but then neither can IE with Samsung or Google to be fair uh but we're now looking at 40 wat wired charging up from 25 and also 20 W Wireless uh ma safe charging up from 15 currently now obviously there will be questions around will you need to buy a new charger if we know Apple the answer is probably yes they don't bundle it in the box so I'm sure you can have the luxury of spending £50 or so on a new fancy uh 40 W wide charger but you know what yes I will take a faster charging iPhone thank you very much now in terms of connectivity we're expecting to finally see Wi-Fi 7 on the new pro and pro Max uh we're going to see the new x75 modem the snap dragon up from the current x70 so hopefully better network connectivity Wi-Fi 7 as I say on the Pro Models but for me and I reckon quite a few of you the most exciting thing I look forward to every time we get a new iPhone is what changes we see to the camera there are reports that the 16 pro and pro Max will get an upgraded 48 megap Ultra wide camera which should be able to capture a lot more light for better photos and videos especially in low light and also for the first time we'll be able to capture 48 megapix Pro Raw photos and also both Pro Models will have the five times telephoto currently with the 15 Pro you get 3x the 15 Pro Max 5x however to help attempt you to part with even more of your hard ear money and opt for the bigger uh 16 Pro Max there are reports that the five times telephoto lens will in fact be a new design with a new super telephoto Periscope for much greater Zoom reach up to 300 mm equivalent this is a bit of an old rumor though so I am on the fence as to whether we get this what is more likely though is that the main lens the main camera will get an improved eight part hybrid lens design and crucially a larger sensor size which would be great to see because we've got some Android phones now that give us 1in sensors so a bigger sensor means it can capture more light clearer images especially in low light that would be great so like a lot of people I've actually already downloaded iOS 18 the beta it's in a developer beta also a public beta it will go live as the new phones come out in September and with iOS 18.
