all right today we're taking a look at the Razer Hammerhead Hyper Speed these are the latest true wireless earbuds from Razer designed specifically for gaming they come with a USB type-c transmitter to provide a 2.4 gigahertz wireless connection which should deliver low latency performance ranging from 25 to 35 milliseconds current price on these is 150 bucks and as usual I'll have the affiliate links in the description in case you're interested there are two different options to choose from here one is officially licensed through Xbox and the other is officially licensed through PlayStation the Xbox version
has a matching black and green color scheme while the PlayStation version has a matching white blue and black color scheme personally I like the look of the PlayStation version a little bit more especially with that PlayStation logo in the center of the charging case however the Xbox version is the official version because they have the widest compatibility including Xbox and Playstation devices since Xbox consoles don't have a USB type-c port they do come with a type c to type a adapter the PlayStation version only comes with the type C transmitter so as far as consoles
they're limited to PS5 in addition to the earbuds charging case and type c transmitter they come with your usual assortment of silicone ear tips as well as a type c charging cable and it's actually a really nice braided cable so it should hold up well over time the charging case doesn't provide any storage for the type C transmitter which is something that we saw with the soundcore vrp10 another pair of gaming earbuds very similar to the hyper speed it would have been nice to at least have the option to store the transmitter inside of the
case but nine times out of ten I'll probably just leave it plugged into my console so it's not really that big of a deal the earbuds do feature touch sensitive controls and they do allow you to control everything including your volume I will say that there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using the controls because rather than a simple tap and release like with most earbuds these require more of a tap and hold it took me a minute to find the Rhythm but since then I haven't had any issues we
also have razer's chroma RGB lighting effects which allows the Razer logo to cycle through different colors the earbuds are running Bluetooth 5.2 so they can be connected to any Bluetooth device just like any other set of earbuds you're not able to connect through Bluetooth and the transmitter at the same time you can only hear audio from one or the other if you want to switch from gaming audio to Bluetooth audio or vice versa you can triple tap the earbuds to make the switch so if you're gaming and you rather listen to music rather than your
actual gameplay you can triple tap the earbuds and they'll switch over to your phone however it doesn't seem to work for phone calls so if you're gaming and all of a sudden your phone rings switching over to Bluetooth mode won't allow you to handle the phone call through the earbuds you'd have to answer it and talk through your actual phone so that's a bit disappointing especially when you have options like the soundcore vrp 10 which allow you to hear your gameplay and handle a phone call at the exact same time if you're somebody that likes
to listen to One earbud at a time you can use either the left or the right when connected through Bluetooth however when connected through the type C transmitter so far I've only been able to get the right earbud to work independently so if you want to game with just one earbud for whatever reason it would have to be the right earbud as far as latency performance I don't consider myself to be a competitive gamer but I don't see any reason these wouldn't work on a competitive level I was able to test them out with some
Call of Duty on my PS5 and latency is virtually non-existent another thing I really like is that you can adjust the volume of your gameplay directly from the earbuds which is a lot more convenient than having to go into the settings of your actual game also the audio tracks with you so as my character on the screen would move from left to right I could hear the audio shift to give me that real POV experience both versions of the earbuds are also compatible with PC Mac smartphones and tablets so if consoles aren't your gaming setup
of choice you do have other options the earbuds also feature active noise cancellation so between the lighting effects the volume level and ANC the battery life will differ under the best circumstances you can expect around six and a half hours from the earbuds and around 32 hours total once you factor in the charging case something I haven't been able to find so far is an official IP rating so as of right now I would probably recommend keeping these away from water if I find more information later on I'll be sure to let you guys know
in the comment section within the Razer audio app you're able to customize a number of features you can make changes to your active noise cancellation as well as customize the RGB lighting effects or simply turn them off all together you even have a do not disturb option which will block phone calls whenever you're connected to the type C transmitter you also have custom EQ options with a handful of presets as well as a fully customizable 10 band EQ there's a gaming mode which I assume is for optimal gaming performance when using the earbuds in Bluetooth
mode and then you have the option to customize the configuration of your controls both for audio playback and phone calls as far as sound quality I would say that these are on par for a set of earbuds that are geared towards gaming first obviously everyone's preferred sound signature is a little different but for me I think they sound a tad better after scaling back the mids they do have some pretty strong bass as well and if you get too carried away with the custom EQ they can start to sound a little bloated but thanks to
a 10 millimeter driver along with that 10 band EQ I'm pretty sure a majority of people can get these to a point that sounds just fine so if you want a set of gaming earbuds that you can also use to listen to music here and there these can certainly get the job done when it comes to the active noise cancellation and ambient mode the performance is just okay the noise cancellation definitely gives you a more isolated experience but I wouldn't say that it's quite on par with other options in this price range and the same
goes for the ambient mode honestly there's not much difference compared to ambient mode on versus ambient mode off so definitely something to consider if active noise cancellation and ambient mode are high on your priority list as far as the microphones they do feature noise canceling technology which should identify and reduce unwanted background noise I did take a test so you guys can be the judge alright so this is a microphone test using the Razer Hammerhead hyper speed right now we have quiet conditions so this should give you a rough idea as to how you would
sound in a quiet environment so now let's see how they sound once we add some background noise so now we've got some crowd noise being played on the speaker so this should give you a rough idea as to how you would sound in a more noisy environment testing testing one two three testing testing one two three gaming earbuds are one of the latest trends in the true Wireless market and overall I think these are a solid option there is competition from companies like JBL with their Quantum earbuds and obviously sound core with their vrp10 but
