a typical day for me is spending half my time in meeting rooms and half my time at my desk in my office so it's it's actually really great because I'm not doing only one type of thing it's there's a big variety and the types of things I do and in fact when I say a typical day there's also a lot of travel involved in what I do so for example the beginning of my day might start out with me reviewing some documents that some of my other statisticians have written like a protocol a protocol is
describing how the study will be run right also may be reviewing something like an abstract which is a presentation that we're going to going to give in a conference at a conference it would be like a summary of the presentation that we're going to give it a conference it might also involve reviewing some analysis so a statistician might do an analysis looking for the gene expression associated with the outcome and I might review the analysis that they did or I might perform the analysis myself I might sit there and actually spend a couple hours programming
looking at the association between gene expression and you know cancer recurrence or something like that so I might spend a couple hours programming I spend a few hours in meetings talking about what studies we want to do next how we're going to design those studies how we're going to work with all these um these collaborators we work with big hospitals like the Cleveland Clinic like you know University of Texas MD Anderson we work with all these big hospitals to get their tumor samples from their patients to get their clinical data that says this patient did
die from their cancer this patient did not die from their cancer that kind of information we get all that information and it's it's really about collaborating with these in other institutions what you know how would we design study how can we identify pieces that are important to us for our development of our assays of our lab tests and also identify pieces that are important to them because there are researchers to write their professors who are trying to make a difference in the world as well with their data so it's a lot about you know just
just strategizing and also analyzing data and then also at times we I travel I travel to talk to these different institutions and talk about how they collected their data what kind of questions they are trying to answer how we can maybe collaborate and things like that
