hey guys it's time to say goodbye to our cybertruck and I hear that huge array from all you cybertruck haters but we're doing something really unique with it and that is we're not selling it but we're trading it for get this the new Volkswagen ID Buzz that's right we're trading a truck for a van or is it a bus anyway I've asked Andre to put together a long-term update on the Cyber Tru because we have done a lot with it we have taken it to a tractor pole we have compared to a cumins we have taken it off-road so if you're interested in seeing how this cyber Tru performed over 11,000 mies let's cut to [Music] Andre so we purchased the Cyber truck and to celebrate 4th of July we gave it this wrap that has been a little bit controversial but overall uh with did a lot with this truck and Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla when he initially introduced this uh vehicle he said this will be the best pickup truck period on the market considering all other trucks and I well I took notice uh I've been reviewing pickup trucks for about 13 years so I really wanted to do a long-term test of this truck from a perspective of a pickup truck buyer and it hasn't satisfied every bullet point on my list so let's start with the bed let me open the tailgate all right so the bed of this truck is composite material which in general is a really good thing because if you're throwing kind of big heavy objects into the space you don't want to Dent it or have it you know corrode or rust so that's really good but when we first purchased this truck soon after that Roman and Tommy needed to move some furniture and they bought some new furniture and they put a lot of boxes in here there's nothing Square about this bed so these bed sides are angled a little bit the bulk head is angled I have a spare tire in here I'll talk about that later because that's a huge negative for me because the truck doesn't come with a spare tire when we bought it and then there's also this this little uh storage compartment we have our kind of basic charger and maybe a toe uh little strap not a toe strap but little cargo strap and then our hitch cover which I also dislike but it's here uh overall this bed is okay but it could be so much better because also I can't reach anything here and I'm almost 63 I'm a really tall person and I can't reach from the side [Music] next up any good pickup truck needs to be able to go Offroad and don't look at the wheels and tires now um these are kind of our street allseason setup right now but we had stock wheels and stock tires on the Cyber truck but this was before the Locking differentials were enabled so we bought this Foundation series cyber Tru for $100,000 which is a lot of money to begin with but some of the features inside this truck weren't even available yet FSD wasn't available locking differentials weren't available off-road modes weren't available so it was kind of a bummer and here's what happened when Tommy took it Offroad in Moab Utah check it out so One Tree Hill is very off camber and it has a tendency to try to throw you into the tree and let's see how the torque delivery is let's see how the wheel flare is now without diff locks what the vehicle is doing is slowing down the spinning wheel to send wheel speed to the veh to the wheel that has traction it's basically trying to mess with the torque application all electronically and let's see if it can do it by the way this truck is enormous you really don't get a sense of that until you see it in person so there's that weight trying to drag me down we got this hole on the right we're going to flex the truck out okay trying to apply gentle accelerator that's Full Throttle Full Throttle the truck is really limiting still at Full Throttle still at Full Throttle you have 600 horsepower uh-oh front motor temp got to 280 and turned orange yeah this is where you need lockers this is really where you need a locking diff but then a couple months went by we got an overthe A update by the way Tesla's is very good at this their overall software and an off-road mode came into a effect um you can launch this off-road app now you have camera views different settings but I love this um this screen tells us motor temperatures or battery temperature because when you're going Offroad sometimes you're working the motors too much or and you can kind of monitor this and then you could also select rear locking differential or both front and rear here and Tommy once we got this update he took it to Moab again and then he ran hell's Revenge Trail which is a very difficult Trail um by all accounts and here's what happened look at those lockers work though that those lockers are on that is a true locking diff if I've ever seen [Music] one oh yes come on Tesla that's that massive weight kind of holding us back a little bit but it didn't matter we were able to get up that rather challenging ledge and now we're immediately going to take it out of extract mode cuz this is just unusable we're going to go back to high I am happy to report those diff locks work you know they did their job they locked up both front and rear axle like a gasoline diff lock the only challenge was you know compared to a traditional automatic having that torque converter to kind of twoot it's not quite that sophisticated in the Tesla it's got to manage bre control along with accelerator control but we did it the truck did really good even with the same stock wheels and tires um Tommy was able to jack up the suspension of course in off-road mode um of course the ride gets a little bit harsh at the full extension of that suspension uh but it did a lot of tough obstacles and Tommy even scratched a couple of maybe a little bit of plastic um in the front and the rear of this truck but I want to mention visibility uh that's a big negative for me uh with this truck even though I have a lot of glass here I have a humongous windscreen I have Side Glass I I I have a poor notion of where my corners of my vehicle are even if I go all the way to the ceiling I still struggle with that and towards the back currently my tunnel cover is open but if it was closed let me close it I have basically no visibility so I have to rely on cameras and as we all know cameras kind of flatten the image it's becomes two-dimensional and it's quite difficult to follow and see so visibility is not a strong point of this [Music] truck I was showing you the off-road app and as I was doing it the truck rais itself all the way all the way almost all the way up it's look how tall it is I'm standing right next to it but um this a part of the long-term update has to do with Towing uh this truck is RA it to tow 11,000 lb it's got two Motors and it's got a lot of horsepower I mean 600 um horsepower combined and as I showed you before this area is normally closed with a plastic cover um every other pickup truck Ford Toyota Ram GM GMC Chevrolet all of them usually don't cover their hitches because you know very quickly you may need to help somebody or hook up a trailer um the only other company I I know of at least right now as far as pickup trucks are concerned is rivan who also kind of covers their hitch um so we keep this off actually I have my Roman put a Jeep cover here so ignore that for now um but how does the toe right that's a huge question well um we did three types of testing uh with this truck first we did um tfl toaster torture test which was Midsummer super hot ambient temperature super slow climb up a mountain about 3,000 ft of elevation gain um and here's how the truck did what's good as soon as you plug in the seven pin the truck decides it's Towing right and it's already kind of enters you in the screen It prepares you you know with the trailer brake gain the one you said beforehand right and it already kind of sets you up but the negative is it doesn't let you define a trailer as we know from the towing that we've done in this truck in the past the towing range with this truck is not good we've covered that this is more about the performance and the temper and the hot weather performance exactly yes so right now I feel like I have a lot of control no it seems to be coping with it really well this was around the point that we had the F-150 initially overheat so far or give us a warning at least yeah yeah and again there's not nearly as much for us to monitor in this truck as we can in the F-150 but so far it's not giving us any cause for concern dude we already burned through at least 10% of battery yeah yeah so we're 75 we started at about 87 86% oh it doesn't want to show us you're holding out on this can we like come on Elon key key Cy it all right screen's off now let's see if this does it my key cycle had to uh I had to exit yeah Elon are you listening turn off trailer mode oh there we go wow so four and a half well it had some time to recover a bit a little bit to a minute but the battery is a little bit warmer than we saw yeah and so are the motors is ever so slightly warmer but it never I think reached like the maximum limits all right dude so we made it all the way down and look at this we started at the top of the mountain at 26 kW hours now it's 15 yeah so we picked up 11 on the way down which means in total for the round trip we use 15 KW hours still a decent chunk of battery yeah but it's not too bad probably about 14% maybe 133% of battery for this trip yeah so this is a really really hard test yeah it is as you saw right there the truck did really great there was no overheating problems it pulled a heavy trailer up our torture test really really um confidently I just noticed actually Jen and I just noticed there is quite a lot of Moab still left in this little cover bumper cover here um I don't know if the next owner would appreciate this or not I hope they do because I think it's pretty cool that's a lot of sand um all right how does it do in I Gauntlet case and I went up the mountain I Gauntlet it's our world's toughest Towing test it's super high in the Rocky Mountains and well the truck did really well also as far as performance efficiency uh controlling the trailer all the way up down the mountain and also up the mountain it was not the most efficient truck we ever tested as far as electric pickups are concerned as far as energy usage but it was like the second best let me show you a little clip first of all the steering wheel is weird let's just start there it's small it feels like a game controller right also my blinkers are on my steering wheel which I'm sure takes some getting used to yeah so let's get past that the stability of this truck and the comfort of the suspension I would rate highly yeah so it feels very stable and you know it's actually pretty compliant like there was no jarring hits that we felt and if I didn't know any better I would say that we didn't have a trailer behind us it definitely handles it well we are riding very smooth but some of those things that you were mentioning like the turn signals being built into the wheel is just one of those things that you have to use your brain to relearn at times when it's not always convenient yeah but I mean you could also argue that if you own this vehicle it'll take you you know a day or two you know to get acquaint with it and then you're going to be kind of one with the machine or so you hope right and to be fair we bought this truck yesterday and immediately took it Towing so there is still some getting used to it that has yet to go on for us I think it has 100 miles on the odometer we're getting right to the good stuff okay there I guess calling it I guess we have to call it so we'll say 5% from 53 to 58 that we picked up so 5% of 122. 4 that would be about 6 KW hours of battery all right so we can handle the trailer really well uh this little boo boo here on this uh Corner came when Tommy and Roman were loading a trailer and they made a tight turn because this truck is so maneuverable it has four-wheel steering um it kind of jacknifed the trailer came here and it touched this corner just a little bit and um we put a little Band-Aid on it so you do have to be a little bit careful with how you use this truck it goes for any pickup truck with four wheel steering including the latest uh Chevy Silverado EV RSD truck for example or the Sierra EV Denali of a very similar setup but finally range you're probably yelling at your screen right now what about Towing range or driving range well let's do uh Towing range first it's bad there is no way to talk about it so Roman and I did a test where we had identical trailers he was in a cin a Ram 2500 heavy duty I was in this truck we were Towing basically the same weight same trailer at the same time and I was only able to go about 85 miles before we had to stop at bies and start charging again and then I had to spend more money for charging than Roman spent on diesel to go the same distance let me show you all right Andre so we don't know what the Cyber truck done yet in terms of fuel yeah but we we'll figure out how much this did pretty quickly because well and look you can pull through I can pull you don't have to unhook what a concept huh so how many miles was it you want to do the math yes oops I'm putting in gas okay you scared okay I'm using the green pump so we went 85 miles the Cyber truck is still screaming yeah it's 221 KW yeah it's at 28% uh it's already at 28% it's still scre and guess what it's a 28% and I am done and you're at 100% what 100% right tool for the right job okay uh 8. 72 gallons 85 mil divide by 8.
7 27 9. s my friend that's my 10 yeah and this is maybe the more important number $25. 74 that's how much it cost this so remember this 25 bucks almost 26 bucks yeah almost 26 bucks supercharger energy cost 35 cents per kilowatt hour okay okay it's right here so how many kilowatt hours do we need to suck up we need it 107 so multiply 35 * 107 okay so let's do that so 107 time 35 per kilowatt hour equals $37.
45 so basically $10 more to tow the same distance with the Cyber truck than a diesel than a diesel uh but that depends of course on where you live and on the price of diesel if equivalent almost it could be California it be more other places it' be less and then Roman and I decided to do something super fun neither of us have ever done this before it was a tractor pull so we when out east and we met some really nice people and they actually allowed us to do an exhibition run with both our cment heavy duty truck and also this cyber truck I didn't go very far I don't know if it was my lack of experience or maybe the tires on this truck we still had stock tires back then um and a lot of people in the audience weren't happy to see me there so it was quite an interesting experience here's a little clip from there [Music] I need to make sure something so I've got 60% power to the rear 40 to the front I'm in Offroad mode rear steer off I'm ready to go okay pull forward so we can tighten your chain just go easy till it's tight hold up hold up right there now wait until we get a green flag okay okay we got it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] go go go go this feels heavy 33,000 lb come on oh no I don't think I'm going to do it [Applause] it doesn't seem like it was working very [Applause] well of these all electric truck Elric you think about [Music] that what that's the [Music] again all right let's talk about taking this truck on the road trip because that's usually a weakness of any electric vehicle this is where the charge port is of course it's nacs standard developed by Tesla and the Tesla Supercharger network is still the best I've driven a cross country several times we did a cross country run ocean to Ocean or D2D in a Tesla Model 3 and it was a good experience I mean we kind of went Non-Stop and we stopped 20 times to charge to go 2500 miles but it worked every single time like clockwork but on the Cyber Tru the charging speeds are not very high yes you could talk about hypotheticals right if the latest version 4 superchargers were available and If I always use them it would be really amazing but they're not really available here at least so I've seen charging speeds of up to 191 KW and sometimes a lot slower so I think that from the charging perspective at least now in 2024 this is not a very good electric vehicle it's just slow to charge so if you're going on a road trip this is probably not the most ideal vehicle to take uh although the supercharger network is amazing [Music] all right what about usability and reliability so first let me show you the front trunk or the frunk um it's not that big so this is basically the smallest of any electric pickup trucks on the market right now it's about 7 cubic feet you could put maybe two um carry-on bags airplane carry-on bags in here uh but for example the F-150 Lightning has about twice the volume the Sierra EV Silverado EV have almost as much space as the F-150 Lightning the rivan has more space up there um and as far as reliability the frun has always worked actually this has been a very very solid vehicle after over 11,000 miles the power train worked perfectly um except we had one issue and it has been the tunnel cover so let me show you first of all you can actually access it here you could open it here and yeah now it works we had some issues with it and also we had this issue with this piece of trim which is a little bit annoying on a $100,000 vehicle but it's not of course critical uh by any means so overall if you ask me you know how was the reliability of this vehicle I would say it was excellent because yes the time mon cover was a bit of a problem now it's been kind of tweaked and fixed um has been working pretty good recently but overall this vehicle has been pretty solid um never left us stranded anywhere um and also the software is really good so let me show you my app I think this is one of the strengths of Tesla um I mean you could see everything you know the odometer the charging status where the truck is you could schedule things you could look at the climate control system inside the vehicle um and it always is up toate you don't have to reboot the app um it works very smoothly and really good so I think that's a huge strong [Music] point and I want to finish this long-term update with FSD full self-driving supervised mode and it's been a very interesting experience first of all it blew me away when we got it a couple months ago Tom and I did the video together we took this truck from our office basically to McDonald's which was like about four 4 miles away and this truck drove through neighborhoods through the city it actually stopped at red lights it saw different pedestrians and it was quite impressive until it wasn't so so the way really the system works it's still in beta of course you still have to pay attention and Take Over Control at any moment in time and it works really really great like 95% of the time and then would make a mistake um for example Jen and I took it Offroad it actually went on dirt roads and it doesn't work in fog because it's only a vision based it's based on cameras not radar sensors at all because this truck doesn't have any uh and then you know it crossed over double yellow lines at one point and it made kind of a weird turn at another point and I had to correct it so works really really great until it makes a mistake that could be kind of critical so now we have the latest software update and I think this is a space to watch because right now this truck will navigate in FSD mode it will take you to your location and will try its hardest to actually get you there safely and nobody else can do that right now super Cruise system is great on the highway it does not take you into neighborhoods blue cruise at Ford same thing and on and on and on so quite impressive so finally would I buy this truck again um did I love it did I hate it is it really ugly well I'm not going to talk about the Aesthetics of the truck that's for you to decide but you know what I would probably purchase it again super reliable comfortable to drive it's now after the lock and differentials are enabled is actually pretty decent Offroad it can carry payloads has a lot of payload capacity can tow trailers just not very far so overall it's a fairly useful vehicle but it's not the best pickup truck sorry Tesla um you really wanted to build the best pickup truck out there and it's not quite there yet The Battery Technology is not quite there yet the charging speeds are not there yet so there you have it let me know what you think in the comments below check out ll.
