How to Read Playing Cards - Video 3 - Meaning of Cards Ace - 9

okay mom welcome back I hope you spent a little time with your playing card Oracle book between watching the last video and this video specifically sometime in the section of the book about the suits page 12 through 24 because we're moving on to the Oracle's mmm pages 25 through 75 the numbers ace through nine and in this section we're going to be going into each card individually and the meanings of all 36 cards ace through nine so if you haven't started one already I'm gonna strongly recommend that you begin a journal you know it doesn't

have to be a fancy journal any kind of notebook that you can devote to your card practice is ideal and journaling is going to be really important for this part of your learning because you know there's 52 cards and it takes a lot of memorization to get to know them it really helps to write things down and so I'll be giving you some key words some key phrases that you can put directly into your journal you can take them right off the video here to make your journal entries and and again that act of writing

is so important I could have put a PDF together with the names of each card and the key phrases from the video but that wouldn't help you you've got to start working with them writing them doing whatever it takes to get them into your brain so if you're using a regular deck of playing cards and unadorned deck go ahead and write the names or any little keywords that help you write on your playing cards this does not mess up your deck it actually makes it more interesting more cool makes it a mystical object and this

is my deck here this is a deck I used for years the one in my hand in this photo and you can see I put little arrows on the card as well to indicate which side of the card was up and down that's also something you can do I don't use that in every reading but you know I liked putting it there it made the deck mine and you can take the keywords right from this video to put on your playing cards and we're going to be using the playing card Oracle original edition deck to

illustrate the cards in this video because the illustrations will help you to start you know getting into the card and seeing the meanings behind the colors and the pips and the numbers and I love this way of working with cards for so many reasons but one of the big reasons is that the illustrations work with the color number and suit meanings they all go hand in hand so they help mmm excuse me to bring out the inherent meanings already in the playing cards by virtue of their color number and suit so as we're going through

again if you've studied your suits you can start to see how the meanings of the individual cards really work with the meanings of the suits themselves and the numbers and the colors so ace is first hmm aces are fascinating cards and you know on an ace we have just one pip or one suit sign right in the center and it is the number one it's like if you say the word I you know like I am it's that feeling of power from being a whole individual and the four aces represent four different realms of power

within that I so the name of the each ace is a magical name that is used to evoke the element of that suit aces represent primordial energy and they represent all of the potentials within each one of their respective suits so I always think of the aces like little seeds you know this goes along with the the concepts of the number one they can grow to become any number within their suit right so five an ace of diamonds in a spread of card for example that ace of diamonds has the potential to grow and become

any manifestation within the diamond suit it's all powerful you can think of it that way just like the individual can choose and grow into any direction they want within their life as long as they possess this power that is the ace and so let's go through the four aces here Ace of Diamonds aghhh Nita is the name of that ace it's the magical name for fire kinda sounds like the word ignite and the key phrase for igniter is I will like I I call things into being by my willpower people with a strong show of

aces are diamonds in their layouts or the ace of diamonds have a very strong will okay the next days we're moving down to the club ace is III the magical name for air and the key phrase for ether is I dream right I dream things into being right we have to have a concept of what we want before we can actually go and create it so whereas Agneta is the will to create it III is the dream the concept the vision of whatever it is a gana I desire you can see how all of these

concepts go hand in hand they need each other I desire right we have to have the desire to accomplish what we want the passion right it doesn't mean the fulfillment of the desire it means the yearning for whatever it is right so for example if a Ghana came up in a reading about a relationship I'm looking for my perfect sole partner you know will I find my my soul mate kind of thing and you got a Ghana well a Ghana represents the eye or the individual right it's got the single pip on the card so

it's pointing to sort of the loneliness in a way not necessarily partnership and if a Ghana was there would be the desire for a partnership not the fulfilment of that desire which would be represented potentially by different cards but the the yearning and finally terra incognita i change we always think of earth as being so solid and then it surprises us when things change when our job changes when where we live changes when the face of things changes form these things that we imagine to be our stabilities really aren't and this ace represents that aspect

of the earth element remember spades is earth and all the meanings of spade cards relate in some way to that element so I change often this card represents something that is shaking this person up by the change can also represent secrets coming to the surface so you know you definitely want to take a look at the cards in the Poincare doracles as well this is a summary especially if a particular card seems to draw you piques your curiosity you know then I encourage you to pursue looking that card up in the book read the full

description journal about it etc okay the twos here your journal entries the two of diamonds rivals competition we're moving into a very different dynamic in the twos from the Aces just by looking at the two pips on a card of the number two suddenly we have two things in relationship it's not just me standing there being all powerful anymore it's me and something else equal right the two pips are the same size it's like looking in a mirror reflection of myself so diamonds is that fire that we feel when we come into competition with something

two of clubs called the friends and relates to the air element it's a much lighter kind of relationship it's often a friendship or people of like mind represented here the lovers two of hearts two things in relationship by virtue of emotion there's a bond a feeling of affection doesn't have to be between two people it can be between yourself and something that you are loved that you love and are very attached to like a job that you you know feel very connected to for example these kind of and the enemy's conflict you and that nagging

thing that just won't go away right like these two old codgers just arguing - stubborn stubborn points of view there okay moving along the threes yet a new sort of dynamic as represented by the suit signs themselves we have now a pathway of pips right a line of pips from the top of the card to the bottom three suit signs and the three of diamonds is called the necklace three things of value strung together to create something beautiful shiny so often people who are craftspeople people who are feeling very inspired bringing their inspiration into being

through the dynamic represented on this card three of clubs the wish this is really about the power of the mind and I like the old saying be careful what you wish for you know sometimes we're wondering what's gonna happen with something but really the most important factor in determining what happens is our own decision and a lot of times this card can represent indecision the need to make a decision recognizing that the power is really in your own mind the power to create the future right I love like the little fortune tellers table in this

image and then we have the three of hearts the clutch and if you just study this picture on this card it has a lot of enigmas in it you know all these pictures are in the playing card Oracle's book as well so you can see them there too but yeah there's you know three hearts at the top it always reminds me of that old what was it a 76 calm Three's Company a torn heart at the bottom heart with wings in the center keyholes a target in the middle having three hearts is very tricky it's

a very delicate balancing act to have three affections in one card Mike this could be somebody trying to balance you know their relationship you know with their loved one and a very demanding job that they love and are devoted to as well can be anything like that the grave three of spades great illustration by my dad with the grave digger there we need to put something in the past with this card something that needs to be in the grave and it's interesting with this card you can look at surrounding cards as well to see what

might be needing to go into the grave or look at surrounding cards as grave markers or tombstones you know you could create that visualization with your spread okay we're moving on the fours fours are wonderful cards in this deck each one is a wind card each one represents a different direction so they're interesting to use in questions of locality you know you could use them that way each one represents a different mood or playing field I like to think of the four pips as corner posts in a playing field you know and whatever event is

being paths asked about when you lay the cards out is taking place within this playing field set up by these four pips so the playing field of the south wind the four of diamonds is unpredictability this is the Dennis the Menace wind blows the clothes off the laundry line screws up your hair that kind of wind and just messes up your plans right so so things don't go the way you planned with this wind on the table right very common occurrence in life the east wind east wind is the weakest of the winds it's interesting

when you think about the east wind being in the club suit in the suit of air it's an air card in the winds and it has a slowness associated with it so when this is on the table it can represent events taking longer than we'd like them to take or that longer than we anticipate they should take it can also represent something long-standing you know like an addiction for example that's just been around for a very long time the west wind represents harmony it's remember that Hearts is also the suit of spring and I like

to think of this wind representing that that intoxicating spring breeze that you know the little animals and the forests make love by its it's a very friendly wind that represents things coming in to agreement it's a really nice card to see on the table and the north wind is a cold wind you know coming down from the tundra and causing us to have to seek shelter it's a very powerful wind almost the opposite of the east wind it's very strong and almost too strong like picks up the slack of the east wind and you know

if you can harness that kind of energy a lot can happen and whatever is being asked about but it can also shatter a person who's not prepared for it so those are the four winds and the fives now fives if you look at the formation of pips in the center of the cards and I love how even though my dad Illustrated these cards he took the time to keep all the pips all the suit signs in the design because they are so important to the interpretation of the cards so so on five we see a

cross right if you connect the little pips together you can see like a crossroads kind of formation and all of the fives represent this feeling of standing at a crossroads of having newfound options it represents a place of change and as such all of the fives tend to be somewhat cautionary right we're in sort of a vulnerable place with a five a transitionary place and it feels very uncertain it's it's easy to feel insecure with the five and a lot of people come for readings simply because they are in this place represented by the five

and there's so much uncertainty so with the five of diamonds we have caution particularly in regard to finances you know and we see a peddler with his wares on his back here and he you know you beware the peddler if somebody walks up to you on the street and says hates you know you looking for I got a discount on those tickets you want or I can I can get you a deal you know you're very cautious right and this is the feeling conveyed by this card so be careful in any trades or transactions that

you might be considering the wind cape five of clubs very blustery card all four winds represented by the four suit signs in the four corners sort of swirling around the center suit sign if you can imagine that as a picture the five clubs they're all four winds coming into the picture each blowing their own direction and causing this little characters cape to swirl madly so because this is a card in the club suit it often deals with things that are mental this can be a very scattered state of mind very common with this card or

you know simply scattering your energy around by going too many directions common meanings for that card fata morgana five of Hearts fata morgana literally means the illusion of Morgana and if we look more closely at this card we see the reflection of this maiden who is standing in the lake we see her reflection in the water but if you look more closely at that reflection we see a hag reflected not the young maiden that we see so the legend is Morgana disguised herself as a beautiful young maiden standing in the lake playing this harp you

know just as the fair night was passing by in order to you know cast a spell on him of some kind right actually she was that she's an old hag so a lot of times with this card things aren't what they look like and it's easy for the heart to want to believe things right it's easy for the heart to go astray when desire is involved so that's that card the final five the five of Spades the circle of crows you know as I say in the book I picture myself you know standing there with

crows circling around me against a still gray sky it's this feeling of sort of something ominous something unsettled things aren't right but I don't know where to go I feel trapped none of my options look good with this card so I'm feeling kind of stuck and it doesn't mean none of the options are good right this is the way that we're perceiving whatever it is okay the six is and with the sixes very interesting formation of suit signs again bringing us back again and again to the essential information encoded on playing cards they're very harmonious

looking aren't they much different than the crossroads right the feeling conveyed by the suit signs in an X formation we have sort of an open pathway here with the sixes and we're moving from an odd number in the fives back to an even number and as we'll get into more in one of the later videos even numbers tend to represent places of rest places of comfort as opposed to the sort of upheaval that is represented by odd-numbered cards so the first six here the six of diamonds is the tower and remember always in relation to

the nature of the suit diamonds often has to do with money and finances this person is feeling that they have their resources in place right there's not the upheaval of say the five of diamonds and we have you know six is not a high numbered card it's not high finances epically depending on what else is surrounding it but it's enough with this card it's enough to have peace of mind the bridge transition you know a bridge is it's a place but it's also a means to something and it's a place where we don't always know

what's on the other side but I like how this card represents that old song a bridge over troubled water you can see in the card my dad just couldn't resist putting a deceased cow in the water that's flowing under the bridge actually it looks a little dried up down there but this bridge also lifts us above you know whatever might have happened in the past and that's apropos with the air element represented by the club's you know lifting us above giving us perspective six of Hearts the castle often it's the home it's a place people

come to to rest recuperate where they can just be themselves and feel nurtured right the ruined six of Spades you can see a crumbling structure on this card and winter you know surrounded by snow and trees that have lost their leaves so remember that spades represents the season of winter so again the cards are helping you the images are helping you to incorporate the meanings of everything that's possible on the card and the the colors are much darker on this card then on many of the other cards representing that sort of desolation that this card

represents often something is in ruin it can be anything in our lives something's been neglected and I I really love just on that topic of color on the cards I really love also how my dad kept the essential color theme in regular playing cards for this playing card Oracle deck this helps to bring out color correspondences it helps us to not be distracted by all kinds of palettes of color bringing us back to the primordial information of color red black and white that was encoded onto playing cards for us to use in our readings and

the seventh again we have these odd numbered cards we have same formation of suit signs mmm as on a six but with the addition of a another pip in the center so I imagine myself travelling down the pathway that is the six right oh let me get my let me do something here I'm getting my mouse going can you see my mouse over the six of diamonds so if I'm a little guy traveling here I'm going to go through the gate right imagine I'm my mouse here on the screen I'm gonna go through the game

I'm going to travel up in between these suit signs here I've got a free and open pathway right here you know just to travel on it's easy life's easy I'm whistling I'm looking at the birds I'm humming a song right it's that place of rest and then with the seven I'm still that little guy see my mouse again on the seven of diamonds I'm continuing along that pathway begun in the sixes but then Boop it's like I bump up against a stone in the road right suddenly I have to pay attention I have to problem-solve

a little bit I have to figure out how I'm gonna get around this obstacle sevens are challenged okay all sevens are challenged and so with the seven of diamonds it's a challenge of truth right when we bring the truth forward in our lives or as we are confronted with the truth it brings challenge into our lives we have to fight for it we have to be careful with it right we can't always go wielding truth about in the streets openly so there's all kind of personal challenges that we face as we are confronted with this

card it's an opportunity yet one we have to use with wisdom right calling forth our inner resources to know exactly how to wield this sword and I like how all the sevens are pictured as swords because they can be really useful and yet all swords can also be destructive and that's the dynamic we have with each one of these sevens seven of clubs sort of enchantment I like this illustration the blade is all kind of full of holes and it's because it's a sword of the air it's a magical sword it's almost like a key

all right it's morphing a bit into something you know unseen it's in the magical around and it it is all about the power of the unseen believing and you see in the illustration above the center pip hard to see on this screen I know but maybe if you look in the book you can see the writing better it says believe in me so it's going to challenge our beliefs and we have to be careful the power of our thought with this card all right thought is an unseen force isn't it it has power but we

have to believe and realize and know the power that our thoughts have and be careful how we wield them and then we have the seven of hearts a sort of healing right healing is one of the correspondences for the heart soup power of love the power of healing you know this is just almost always such a really wonderful card to see on the table and the sword is coming up out of the water in this illustration with the caduceus the physicians sword the snake wrapped around it there it's a lovely card and of course there

it's not without its precautions as well you know the surgeon's blade can be represented here that can also injure right our emotions can be used to injure we've certainly all been hurt by love right sort of destruction seven of spades this is the real blade the blade of Earth the one that we can use to wreak havoc or that we can use to benefit ourselves and others and this can be used for any question it indicates something that usually indicates something that we need to cut we need to prune I I really like the analogy

with this card of the gardener and his gardening shears you know he has to go out and cut those branches off the tree he has to hurt the tree a little bit so that it will grow even stronger and many times there are things in our lives that need to be removed but we have to be careful with those garden shears you cut too many branches off or you cut in the wrong places right if you don't know what you're doing or you're using this sword in a rash manner it can be very not good

so those are the sevens and we have the AIDS I like to look at the suit signs on an eight as like a formation of troops lined up or like the threads of a net knotted together and in the positions of the suit science we have fortification with the eight and a lot of times they represent karma coming around or seeds past sown coming around it's the reaping so at the aid of diamonds you know this is good fortune and on the illustration we have a door with a lion's head knocker on it and a

gift waiting on the step and obviously a well-to-do looking home so good things sown coming around to support us the fruition of of things you know diamonds is also associated with the season of autumn that time when we are reaping harvest and that's what's happening in our lives when we see that card so the scales hmm eight of clubs again we're moving back to a lighter LM the air element very ethereal a lot of times this represents people connected on a mental level but grew a group of people right remember the friends was the two

of clubs had just those two pips it was kind of like one-on-one connection this is a larger kind of mental connection it also represents you know well-balanced thinking considering all points and coming up with a just decision the garden a loving environment temptation we see the snake in the garden we see poppies in the garden right the garden is a very lush place it's a wonderful thing a wonderful place to spend the afternoon all the fragrances right but there is also a snake in the garden we have to be careful and we can't be you

know harvesting too many poppies either but you know it's a place of pleasures so I mean I guess you can think you can take caution or not you can handle yourself field of stones this is a fortification of obstacles you see a little man tied to a rock there with the vulture swooping in for lunch and this when you see this card there's just no point in trying to move forward and I like the little hourglass pictured in one of those center spades sometimes timing is just not right it doesn't always mean whatever proposition you're

looking at is impossible it might mean that you need to come back to it give it some time and finally the nines and often nines represent the final stage of something it is the last PIP card the last single numbered card and if someone's going through a divorce or something or coming to the end of a chapter often you'll see one or more nines in the spread and nines because they are the highest single number often represent extremes of whatever is being represented so if a person has more than two nines in a spread or

more than one nine excuse me and has two or more nines often they're the type of person who does not like to do things in moderation or at least in regard to the question they're asking and likewise we see extremes within the nines themselves here for instance we have Gawain the nine of diamonds an extremely helpful character he is somebody who is going to write the wrong he's the quintessential knight in shining armor I put fleeting hair on the screen because the knight in shining armor gallops in saves the day and then he gallops off

he doesn't stick around that's the Halloween character he's got a son you can see the Sun kind of halo around his head Gawain reputedly grew stronger with the Rising Sun he was like a solar hero again playing into the diamond suit representing fire so his his strength grew with the Rising Sun and waned as the Sun began to you know go down as it passed its zenith in the sky his powers would start to wane as well so he doesn't represent anything permanent I remember once I had a boyfriend and I thought he was just

so great and was so hopeful for the relationship and he knew that I was you know working with cards I was actually writing the playing card Oracle's at that time and he lived in a nearby city but you know we had to commute to see each other and so he mailed me a letter and I think he was just using his artistic sense and he he wrote the nine of diamonds on the envelope and I knew that or I suspect that that was a message and sure enough you know the relationship was fleeting so so

he was my hero in a way but it wasn't destined to last for sure and so that's it's another way that that card can be used in questions of relationship Galahad a very idealistic Knight right we're seeing extremes represented in these characters that are coming forward in these cards Galahad is the knight who achieved the Grail through his extreme purity of vision right he never gave up it was this vision he had that he couldn't shake and he made all manner of sacrifices for this very ethereal thing right I mean people didn't even know if

the Grail even really existed that's the club suit right the imagination the vision of something that can't even see with your physical eyes so someone has a very idealistic vision with this card a goal and the question is whether they are willing to make the necessary sacrifices now had me made extreme sacrifices shield array I know it's kind of an annoying name for the card it's a French character many of the card characters are French since our modern day deck can be traced to the French and a lot of plain card tradition comes to us

from the French so that is kept intact in many ways in the playing card Oracle's and shield array was an absolutely terror of a French nobleman he had a lot of notoriety but he was very corrupt behind the scenes murderous in fact and you know leave it to my father to be dramatic there we see that dripping hearts but a lot of times with this card what you have is emotions that are built up and wreaking havoc because they don't have healthy ways of expression it can just represent a lot of tears or a lot

of feeling for something or emotions being very high around a certain thing so as you work with these cards you'll start to see how they represent situations in your life but be patient give yourself time um you have to play with them you have to start laying them out you have to start getting to know them one by one and finally the last PIP card the throne of spiders this is a heavy weight I often think of it like an anvil or something a heavy weight that we have to carry something that's draining us like

a spider you know sucks sucks the precious fluids from your body drains you drains its victims its prey and this is like being prey to the spider being caught feeling trapped feeling a heavy burden that you don't know how to get out from under it from many times so this is it again as your curiosity is sparked by these cards go to the book look up the more complete explanation for these you know I've given you summaries that you can use to either write on your cards or put into your journal to help you just

quickly memorize them so you can start working with them you know even if it's very simplistic it will give you something that you can start playing with and I'm also trying to get you to think in terms of the suits right and the numbers so that the meanings will be easy so that you have sort of a rich field to draw from and so that you know everything will help you to build strong associations in your mind and your homework is to do what we've talked about get your journal out make notes on your cards

if you need to write down all cards ace through nine and the key words somewhere and get your hands on your cards you know start to play with the cards and as you feel drawn to a card as I said follow that pathway start to be led by your cards I actually don't want you to read dryly start to finish these pages 25 to 75 I want it to begin to be intuitive for you because that's how we're going to read the cards so we're going to study the cards in the same way in a

very childlike way getting used to being childlike with your cards and as you use that skill in your readings it will give you glorious insights glorious insights and your mind will start to grow and expand in ways that we don't exercise our mind in daily life many times so go ahead and follow any pathway that seems to be calling you any card that is calling you you know ask how is my day going to be and lay a card down and then look it up in the book and see what you see and we'll be
