the last two years have quite literally flown by and that means it's almost time for NVIDIA to launch their two newest graphics cards the RX 590 and the RTX 580 expected to be unveiled at CES in January both new cards should unlock higher frame rates bring new technologies and while we dly said this a few times before finally let 4K rate racing run without compromise and the good news is that because we are so close to the launch of these things we actually know quite a lot about them there seem to be new leaks pretty
much every single day if not every single week and we know the rough specifications of this thing we can work out the performance and whilst we don't currently have confirmed pricing details and we won't get that to the day of launch we can definitely give our best guest to give you an idea exactly what to expect from the Next Generation how it's going to perform and ultimately whether the value is there so you should buy something now or definitely wait for the next Generation so join us as we explain absolutely everything you need to know
about Nvidia 50 Series right after a short word from this video sponsor cor says 3500 series of cases have arrived and they offer a whole new view into PC gaming with tempered glass on both the side and the front this affordable chassis lets your PC sing and thanks to its modest footprint it will fit on most desks without compromise cooling is no problem either with the ability to fit a whopping 10 fans and two radiators when using 120s or 7 140s if that's more your back learn more about this incredible case today with the link
down below let's waste no time then and actually jump into the the meat of it because if you thought that the 4090 was Overkill You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet the star of the show is unquestionably the RTX 5090 and this monster looks set to offer Gamers and prosumers an insane amount of performance it will use nvidia's nextg architecture codeen named Blackwell after the American mathematician David Blackwell who actually worked on Game Theory which seems appropriate this architecture alone should yield better performance per wat but this new 4 nanometer process is actually very similar in size
to the current gen cards instead Nvidia are having to pull their punches in a different way potentially with bigger chips or as some rumors point to actually using a 3D PCB which essentially means you can fit more stuff into the same amount of space it looks like this time around we're getting a frankly absurd 32 GB of Graphics memory and a GB 202 GPU fitted with 2,760 GPU cords up 33% from the previous generation 4090 as it happens the memory bus is also up 33% to find 112 bit and in combination with the faster gddr
7 memory it gives a throughput that could be double that of the Aging 4090 and obviously it is very difficult to put an exact number on the overall performance gain that we're going to get cuz we don't know clock speeds and power usage and things like that but I would actually say that we're probably looking between 30 and 45% more performance versus the 4090 and bearing in mind that card was already like so much better than everything else is very clear that if you want the best of the best that is going to be the
way to go but let's double down on power for a second because this is definitely a pretty interesting one as I've seen loads of frankly absurd rumors about the cards needing two 600 W power cables which is just so ridiculous that maybe there's like an extreme overclocking liquid nitrogen card or something like that that's feeding these rumors I just don't really know but instead what we are almost certainly going to see is a revision to this now you remember you got these adapters in the Box before right because the 40 series has this uh 16
pin the 12vt high power connection and obviously at launch there were issues where Nvidia will say people weren't plugging them in properly and they were causing potentially like your card to melt it was bad but essentially this connection has now been revised so what they're just dubbing something that's called 12vt 2 essentially like actually quite an easy name so you'll get adapters and things inside the box as you did before but it's going to be a little bit safer now because they've changed the inside of the connection which essentially means if it's not plugged in
properly then in theory the card won't work rather than be functional with a connection that's kind of almost in and then that's when you could run into those issues so that's good but it is also backwards compatible so if you've already upgraded to like a atx3 power supply or something like that you should still be able to use it but in terms of the actual power consumption of this 5090 well rumors put this pegged at 600 watts and part of me is a little bit skeptical about this because obviously we kind of heard these rumors
before that the 4090 was going to be 600 watts and it was kind of partly true because the connection can take 600 watts but this card or the 4090 this is a 480 super the 490 was rated at 450 50 wat as I say you could plug in a 600 watt connection and do overclocking and all of that good stuff whereas this new card apparently the TDP is going to be 600 watts I don't really believe that because I still think that's way too much for a graphics card maybe again you'll be able to get
there with some overclocking but I think a real world TDP of maybe about 525 Watts or something like that is probably a bit more realistic remember because the architecture is better but not like a complete Game Changer you are going to have to put more power into these cards to get better results there are almost certainly two other new features that are going to be hitting these cards the first being display port 2.1 finally so 16k is possible or more likely a higher refresh rate 4K and 8K panels in like some of the latest monitors
but then also and probably more importantly we are going to see a shift from this pie connection from Gen 4 to Gen 5 and I want to start by saying don't worry about this too much because even if you're running a Gen 4 motherboard I'm not entirely convinced that we're really going to see much difference between Gen 5 and Gen 4 this new 5090 would have to be so much more powerful in order to take full use of it especially for gaming where it matters but if you look at the 490 that didn't fully saturate
Gen 4 anyway so there wasn't like a huge amount of difference between Gen 3 and Gen 4 you definitely wanted Gen 4 but if you were running on gen 3 it's not like it was going to be a night and day difference in a lot of games if you're already like running a motherboard that has P Gen 5 so pretty much an Intel motherboard from the last few years or if you've gone for b650 or x670 you've already got PC Gen 5 great your future proofed but kind of watch this space don't worry about it
too much just wait for the benchmarks that show the differences before rushing out to buy a new motherboard now the final thing to note before we talk 5080 is that both of these new cards actually look set to be smaller than the previous generation and the rumor has it that they will only take up two slots and I've got to admit I'm really confused about this one I would say ton of salt here because again this could just be certain variants maybe there was a particular leak of a particular card but if you just think
how big the founders Edition is for a card that uses I mean this one's only like 350 or 400 watts right 600 watts is obviously going to need to dissipate more heat so the only way you're going to be able to achieve that in a jeel stock card is if you had a all-in-one radiator but that also seems a little bit strange to me it hasn't been something Nvidia has done before as far as I can tell and this is a very popular design people actually pay through the nose to get one of these and
cases are getting bigger and bigger so it would seem an odd decision to go for a two- slot card that would either compromise a lot on performance and thermals or as I say move to like a all-in-one solution I mean that's fine with me don't get me wrong but it does complicate things slightly I don't know I believe it when I see it let's now press on to the card that I think actually more people are going to be interested in the rcx 580 now as you'd expect there's definitely a fair bit of overlap here
with the same new Blackwell architecture PCI generation 5 and display port 2.1 supports but obviously you do have quite a few differences under the hood this is going to be a gaming Beast no question but the performance Target is nearer the 4090 than the 90 as the specs are actually comparatively small I'd probably expect a performance increase of maybe 10 to 15% versus the 4080 rather than neck and neck with the 4090 remember that ginormous 2,760 cores in the 5090 well we're only getting 10,752 in the 508s GB 203 die that's almost half the amount
which could suggest half the performance in reality this probably won't be the case as you always have like a performance efficiency curve and the more power you put into something the less efficient it gets so I wouldn't say it is going to be half the performance but we definitely probably going to observe quite a big difference between the 5080 and the 90 and that's before we even factor in price because with AMD look to actually exit this high performance space it's kind of giving Nvidia free reign to almost do what they want so in theory
if the same prices are kept now and you are getting double the performance for double the money then I guess you could say the value there is fine but if we start to see the price of the 5080 go up and then the 5090 goes up to I don't know like $2,500 or something like that well Nvidia can do it cuz no one's going to challenge it are people really going to buy it yes you'll complain about it but I promise you they will renting aside for a second though and back to those all important
specifications well the memory speed is actually also increased versus the 4 40 AC and it's been bumped to gddr 7 though the 16 gig quantity and 256 bus actually remains now it's not problematic certainly not today but it is lower than perhaps it should be classic Nvidia power usage is also up 400 WS versus 320 on the 480 whilst both cards have more streaming multi-processors or SMS for shorts that should Aid performance we can also expect there to be better tensor cores better RT cores and I think AI is going to be like a main
feature of these cards but pricing and availability is probably what you want to know right so availability they almost certainly announced them at CS in January and then I imagine the release window will be pretty quick probably two weeks later so maybe around about the 20th of January and then maybe like a couple of weeks later for the 5080 the 5090 will almost certainly launch first cuz if you're going to buy one of them they'd rather you bought a 5090 cuz it's more expensive but then in terms of pricing I'm not 100% sure but we
can essentially work out that Nvidia isn't going to drop the price and unless they're not selling enough of the cards but both the 4080 super and the 4090 always seem to be at an inflated price point in the US so clearly they're not really struggling to sell those if they wanted to sell more volumes and really like you know get market share they're drop down the price but they've already got like a crazy market share so they don't need to do that and maybe if like the yields of these things were dramatically better or it
was so easy for them to get extra performance that they could kind of give it out to everyone they might lower down the price but again like the process is very similar so I don't see a reason for them to do that so unfortunately it doesn't look like the pricing is really going to change too much for the 80 I would say that's probably going to be about the same price if we're lucky $999 the performance increase if it's not going to be massive versus the 480 super that's probably quite likely whereas if it's actually
a bigger jump than we think and maybe it's like 20 25% faster than a 4080 then they're probably going to adopt that $1,200 price point that we saw on the previous generation at launch now when it comes to 5090 well unfortunately this is a little bit more up in the air and it's probably quite likely going to increase and the reason for this is because we're going to see such a huge performance difference between the 80 and the 5090 again if we're lucky it will launch at the same price as the 4090 but I think
it's probably more likely that it's going to be around about $2,000 if we're really unlucky you could be getting on for $2500 crazy amount of money but again if people are willing to pay it Nvidia are going to take your money it's as simple as that if you don't like kit don't buy it$ 490 for me for work is amazing right I would buy one for this channel because it's actually nuts how efficient and how good it is for video editing but I would not buy one of these for gaming even the 480 super we've
spoken about this before the most I would be willing to spend on a graphics card would probably be around about £750 £800 or so so the idea of me spending $2500 or pound on a graphics card for gaming is quite literally nuts but if people buy them they will sell them that's just the reality we will be testing them as soon as they come in the studio so do get subscribed to see our full review to see some builds and as we have more information come out about them we will give them to you I
hate to say it as well but availability for launch will probably be a little bit limited that could be a risk of scalping Nvidia just want to create Buzz for these so if they quite literally have tens of thousands of these sitting on shelves and they're not selling well they're not going to get that deaz that I made up a new word theas they're not going to get like the demand and the do if you can just well it's not if you can buy one but essentially they want to give you a reason I've got
to buy it now I don't want to have to wait for months potentially I remember what happened before I'm going to buy one of these now that's all created by Nvidia not the scalping they're not doing that themselves hopefully but essentially that's like the whole idea they're giving you a reason to buy it now and the other thing I was a little bit confused by is why they would actually wait until January because typically people tend to buy stuff in October November for like the holiday period so you think Surly that's the best time to
launch rather than waiting till next year when you're going to sell less but my theory on this is actually all around the games that people are playing now cuz I would say that you don't actually need to buy a new graphics card I mean you don't need to buy a new graphics card probably because what we have now is already very powerful but don't forget that all of the Unreal Engine 5 games are actually launching either now or have just launched so I think what they're relying on is that people are buying these games realizing
they're really demanding and they're kind of creating that hunger for people to actually want to upgade upgrade their PC and then they' be anticipating January they'd be waiting for them to launch and then they'll want to pre-order one and get one when they come in because their favorite title essentially is going to play better with a new graphics cards multiplayer games not so much but definitely in terms of single player I think people are going to want to spend the money to unlock all of these new features at least that's the theory it could backfire
could be that no one buys these and they reduce in price but has that ever really happened with Nvidia graphics card before I mean 40 60 TI are still selling so but yes that is pretty much everything I think you need to know about the 5080 and the 5090 I'm pretty excited to see what they do with the 5090 certainly from a like a reviewers point of view it's always very interesting to see what the latest Cutting Edge Tech can do but again I've said this last year or two years ago and I'll probably said
that four years ago please don't feel like you need to buy one of these I know it's exciting when we get new launches and new technologies and I would love to see what they can do I'd really love to see them improve the frame gen to reduce the latency down and some other cool features that you know only exist on Nvidia it's annoying but it's still nice to have someone pushing the industry forward but please don't feel like you need to buy one of these because even if you buy like a 4060 which is still
more expensive really than it should be and you're playing at 1080P or 1440 at the end of the day the experience you get with that card is already so so good that you just don't necessarily need to upgrade for some features that make the game look like slightly prettier like it's cool but you don't necessarily need that I hope that helps but anyway let me know your thoughts down in the comment section below which one are you anticip ipating the most the 5080 5090 or some of the others how much do you think the price
is going to be and do you think the performance increases are going to be worth it we love to hear from you and if you do want to check out current pricing by the way on anything featured than this PC that we happen to have on the desk you can find my affiliate links listed down below and while you're down there why not indulge yourself with a new Corsair 3500 series available in both black and white with and without fans this Mighty case packs the support and calling potential for even the most highend rigs it's
