The curious thing is that most of the components that make saffron so beneficial are the same that make it harmful in combination with certain medications such as: 1- anticoagulants. Saffron is a natural anticoagulant due to its antithrombotic power. It is actually capable of reducing blood clots making it dangerous to be taken in combination with anticoagulant therapy to treat cardiovascular disease.
The consumption of this plant can increase the effects of these drugs and increase the risk of internal bleeding. Anticoagulant medications include: warfarin, clopidogrel and aspirin. 2 - Antacids.
Turmeric relieves irritable bowel syndrome, a digestive disorder characterized by stomach pain and discomfort, but when taken in combination with gastroesophageal reflux drugs like cimetidine, famotidine, ranitidine and omeprazole can cause some reactions. Taken in combination with these drugs it will stimulate the production of gastric fluids by your body, which can cause nausea, bloating, stomach pain and esophageal injuries. 3 - Drgs against diabetes.
With remarkable antidiabetic effects, turmeric naturally lowers blood sugar levels. When taken in combination with diabetes medications it can cause an additional drop in blood sugar levels, leading to hypoglycemia. This can lead to a number of side effects including tremors, anxiety, blurred vision, delirium and reduced cognitive function.
4 - Antihistamines. People who take antihistamines may encounter a problem related to the consumption of turmeric. This can cause allergic reactions like hives or rashes or even shortness of breath and anaphylaxis.
