hey in this week's English lesson I'm going to teach you a simple rule this rule is going to help you speak English more fluently it's the simple rule of Threes are you ready well then I'm teacher Tiffany let's Jump Right In All right so here's the simple intro to this rule my English teachers when I was in high school and even when I was in college they taught this rule to me and every other English student so native English speakers already know this Rule and now it's time for you to master it here's the simple
rule provide enough support for your thoughts your ideas and opinions by giving three details three examples or three reasons you heard me right this simple rule right here is going to change your English let me explain it a little bit more starting with part number one three details so the first part of this rule focuses on the important details of the topic the subject or person that you are discussing in other words you my friend want to help your listener visualize what you are talking about so what does this actually look like let's look at
this example right here we have a video example and we're going to use this simple rule of thre the first part to describe it so here's the topic activities in the evening the question being what is your favorite thing to do in the evening now we're going to answer this question by using three details here's detail number one now again good book is a detail detail number two cozy blanket and detail number three cup of hot tea now we're going to use these three details to give a long response a fluent English response but look
at the simple response that does not include the details here's a simple response my favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax now my friend this is a good answer it's true it answered the question but we are trying to give a fluent English response using the simple rule of three so we have the three details good book cozy blanket cup of hot tea now using these three details what would the answer look like here's what the answer would look like including these three details my favorite thing to do in the evening is
to relax on the couch with a good book a cozy blanket and a cup of hot tea all of a sudden now you're able to visualize me relaxing in the evening now I do want to explain this word cozy all right so after me cozy excellent again cozy very good now this word cozy right here it just refers to a feeling of comfort warmth and relaxation it is often associated with the SN UG and comforting environment such as being wrapped in a soft and warm blanket or enjoying a cozy fireplace on a winter day now
remember we just looked at the video clip if you're watching this lesson with the young man sitting on his couch drinking a cup of hot tea and now we're describing this scene for the individual we're speaking to so once again my favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax on the couch with a good book a cozy blanket and a cup of hot tea we're talking about the simple rule of threes and we're looking at part one three details but what about the second part of this simple rule here's the second part of
the rule three examples the second part of this rule focuses on examp examples of the topic subject or person you are discussing in other words you want to help your listener understand more by giving them real life example situations remember this simple rule is going to change your English fluency so here we go I want you to check out this video example again the question and the topic activities in the evening what is your favorite thing to do in the evening basic response my favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax notice we're
still using the basic response now we're going to use the simple rule of Threes to transform it so here's example number one curl up on the couch with a captivating book or novel example number two my cozy blanket envelops me in warmth creating the perfect atmosphere an example number three I enjoy sipping my tea as I read my novel remember we're on part two of this simple rule of threes and we're looking at examples so now we have these three examples what would this look like in an actual answer here's the answer and I want
you to listen very closely in the evening I absolutely love to curl up on the couch with a captivating novel a very interesting novel there's just something amazing about getting lost in a fictional world as I lose track of time my cozy blanket envelops me in warmth creating the perfect atmosphere to complete this delightful experience I always make sure to have a piping hot cup of tea nearby whether it's a soothing chamomile or a fragrant Earl Gray I enjoy sipping my tea as I read my novel now my friend I know you stepped on into
my situation right as I explained what was going on I gave you clear examples now I want to describe and explain some of the words and terms that were used the first one is lose track of time after me lose track of time great job now this just means to become unaware of the passing of time or to be so engrossed or absorbed in activity that one loses awareness of the time passing this happens to me a lot when I'm drawing when I'm painting when I'm spending time with friends I lose track of time oh
my goodness I didn't even realize 2 hours went by in English we say lose track of time and what about the other word that I used envelop good again envelop excellent now this just means to completely surround or wrap something or someone typically in a covering or an atmosphere remember I said my cozy blanket envelops me in warmth in English we say envelop good job all right the next thing I said I said piping hot cup of tea so after me piping hot good job I love it now piping hot it just means very hot
boiling or extremely heated you you have to blow on your cup if you're drinking piping hot tea right excellent all right and finally I said I enjoy sipping my tea as I read my novel so after me sip good job again sip excellent now this just means to drink a beverage by taking small mouthfuls or swallows or to drink slowly and in small quantities in English we say sip good job good job so again you're seeing how we're using this simple rule of Threes to truly give fluent English responses once again part two three examples
now it's time for us to move to part three of this simple rule part three is three reasons the third part of this rule focuses on giving specific reasons for your ideas on the topic subject or person you are discussing in other words you want to help your listener understand your thought process and how you developed your idea remember this simple rule of Threes is going to help you starting today speak English more fluently remember this Rule and I guarantee it will transform the way you speak English so same situation activities in the evening what
is your favorite thing to do in the evening the simple response my favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax we have the same response now we're using part three of our rule here's the first reason allows me to escape from the stresses of the day reason two snuggling under a soft blanket creates a sense of comfort and relaxation and reason number three sipping a cup of tea warms me up and enhances the overall cozy experience I'm giving reasons for my response part of this simple rule of Threes so what will this look
like in a fluent English respon response here's the response including those three reasons I find that my favorite thing to do in the evening is reading because firstly it allows me to escape from the stresses of the day and transport myself to different worlds and Adventures secondly the act of snuggling under a soft blanket creates a sense of comfort and relaxation that makes it even more enjoyable finally sipping a cup of hot tea while engrossed in a book adds another layer of pleasure as it not only warms me up but also enhances the overall cozy
experience come on now that's an amazing English response a fluent English response that any native English speaker would give and all we did was use the simple rule of Threes part three being three reasons now I want to break down some of the terms used in this response the first one is transport excellent again transport great job now it means to mentally or emotionally carry someone to a different place situation or experience it refers to the act of being deeply engrossed in something to the extent that it feels like being transported to another world or
time in English we say transport good job excellent the next word I used was snuggle good again snuggle excellent it just means to get close and cozy with someone or something to snuggle up usually usually by nestling or cuddling up against them or it it implies seeking warmth comfort and affection by getting physically close to someone or something in English we say snuggle just like I said secondly the act of snuggling under a soft blanket you got it excellent all right and then I said add another layer good again add another layer excellent now this
expression just means to introduce an additional aspect or element that enriches or deepens an experience idea or situation it suggests enhancing or expanding upon something by incorporating another dimension or level of complexity in in English we say add another layer again I said while engrossed in a book adds another layer of pleasure I was already enjoying the experience of snuggling up in my blanket but now engrossing myself in this novel adds another layer of pleasure you got it excellent all right here we go the last word I want to explain is [Applause] enhance good again
enhance excellent now this just means to improve or amplify the quality value or effectiveness of something it involves making something better stronger or more desirable by adding elements or features that enhance its overall impact or appeal to make something better or have a greater impact make sense excellent all right so again you understand the words and you see how the three reasons helped us expand our response and make it more of a fluent English response I hope you enjoyed today's lesson and remember this simple rule of Threes can transform your English fluency don't forget if

hey I said it story time all right so I had another story planned for you but this one just popped up it happened yesterday so I'm going to tell you this story so I enjoy delicious food listen you understand I'm a foodie I've told you this before and my friend maybe you're a foodie as well are you a foodie okay you like good food as well so yesterday spur of the moment my mom and I went to lunch together I was at home working and I called her and she mentioned going to lunch and I
said yes let's do it so I finished my work up in the morning and at around 12:30 I went to meet my mom at a restaurant there's this new vegan restaurant it's vegan Asian food not too far from my house so I said hey Mommy after your doctor's appointment meet me at this restaurant now my mom is an amazing cook and sometimes when you're an amazing cook you're very particular with the food you eat when you go outside of your home right because you know how to season food properly so my mom is a little
picky when it comes to food so I knew that so I was a little bit nervous ah maybe she'll like this restaurant maybe she won't my sister and I absolutely love it my nieces love it so I said maybe my mom will like it so we get to the restaurant and I ordered before my mom got there I ordered the things that I like and my sister like I said okay these have been winners with me and my sister hopefully my mom will like them as well so my mom arrives puts her purse down her
jacket and then goes to the bathroom and comes back and we're just chitchatting it up just talking and and the food arrives one dish two dishes three dishes four dishes and they're placed in front of us and I see my mom oh oh okay okay just kind of looking at the dishes I'm still like oo I hope she'll like them so she takes her fork out and she you know puts some of the food onto her plate and so we continue our conversation and she puts the fork to her mouth one of my favorite dishes
she puts the for to her mouth and says wait a minute now I'll tell you something about African-Americans when something is delicious we don't smile we frown let me explain if something is real good we do this whoa wait a minute that's letting you know that this fool right here is good so I saw that frown come on her face and I said okay we're doing good and then the heat kicked in so my family we like spicy food right so she bit into it the frown came she said a it spicy to yes so
I was happy I knew she liked it now we kept eating and she looked happy and then I had to get up to get a napkin so I stood up to walk up to get some napkins and on my way back my mom's back was to me she couldn't see me but I could see her and I saw my mom doing this I mean the shoulders were dipping she was just a shiman and I bust out laughing I said I guess you like it mommy she said oo girl I love it so we had a
wonderful meal together yesterday my mom loved everything that was ordered and it made me happy I sent all of the leftovers home with her because I was happy that my mom who cooked so well and who blesses me my sister and my whole family all the time with great food finally was able to eat something she hadn't cooked but she actually loved so I hope you enjoyed today's story and I'll talk to you in the next lesson
