hi I'm Brittany Brittany of AG and smart in cases the first video of ours that you're watching in which case welcome today we're gonna be talking about a really cool exercise called how might we it's used in design thinking it's used in design sprints and it's also used generally in meeting type scenarios the how might we exercise is just the perfect way to standardize note-taking within a group setting when everyone has a different style of taking notes let's be honest it can become pretty messy how might we how might we what I'm pretty sure it
was invented by Procter and Gamble in like 70s and I heard someone say that once and then I just kept saying it over and over again so I hope it's the truth you can think of it as a really great way to take notes and to practice your active listening skills what just giving all I want you to imagine here is that you're in a meeting with your boss who you either like or dislike or very aggressively dislike he's talking about all of his wants and needs for his company you know when he has a
lot of ideas he's very passionate he's been reading a lot of books lately so that means that he has a lot of ideas that are all over the place that's when you're gonna go ahead and use the hell might be exercise step one grab yourself a batch of rectangular post-its please thank you step two grab yourself a Sharpie pen right here now step three is writing H and W in the top left-hand corner of your post-it this is such a great way to frame your notes so right now you're getting this sort of big wall
of sound coming at you full speed ahead listen to what your boss is saying hi I'm Reginald P Pettigrew and I run the most successful brand of co-working spaces this side of Europe for those that don't know a co-working space is where people come together and work he's probably going to talk about challenges things you know that he wants to do with the company directions he wants to go and all the while you were going to be transforming what he's saying into how might we sentence all righty so what you want to do when you're
taking these notes is instead of thinking about the challenge you're actually starting to think about the opportunity so you sort of reframing the way you're looking at certain problems let's say your boss wants you to get more people in on a Saturday and Sunday why do they want more people on a Saturday and Sunday because they want to increase revenue because they want to increase sales within their co-working space so you want to kind of like reshape the way that you're listening to actually getting to the root of the challenge [Music] so I'm just going
to start talking and see what comes out okay yes so the co-working space as you know it's going well very happy it's going fantastic in fact I'm I'm actually over the moon with how it's going but I think it needs to be doing a hell of a lot better and some of the problems that I've been finding in my day-to-day have been I'm actually incredibly worried about the drinks were serving and some of the drinks are fizzy that's great but some of the drinks are far too still for my liking what I'd like to see
is a mixture of both fizzy drinks and incredibly fizzy drinks people are still just stuck working during the day and mainly Monday to Friday and we want to really break that norm if we can see a way around maybe convincing people to work not just 9:00 to 5:00 during the day but 9:00 to 5:00 at night then we see people using our co-working spaces almost double the time I've had a number of friends in the restaurant business and one thing they're really doing well on the moment they're selling a lot of food and I was
thinking maybe also food is something we could look at some people get quite distracted I mean it's not something that happens to me I work in a small safety deposit box in Westminster and I've worked there my whole life I think that I found is that we could also do off-site retreats I've heard a lot of people calling me I think people have said what I got from that other than the fact that I want to kill myself is how might we increase the number of hours people spend in our space how might we improve
our refreshment services that's a good one how might we make our space more comfortable how might we increase our offering for our co-workers and how might we increase revenue a classic how might we how might we is just such a great way to condense all of this information coming at you so fast into very specific opportunity focused notes and if you want to know more about the design sprint let's say you've never heard of it or will only hurt a little bit about it the design sprint is something that we are super passionate about here
