this one skill set is going to make you more money in your Amazon FBA business than anything else and that is how to verify winning products let's get into it what's up guys welcome back to the channel my name is Trev Peterson I'm a full-time 8f figureure Amazon Seller and in today's video I'm going to help you develop the most important skill set and that is how to verify products how to know whether a product is going to be a winner a loser how to mitigate your risk how to know if this product is going
to be worth it and for you to feel confident launching and moving forward with the product again this is the one thing where beginners just fail and land flat on their face is they don't spend time doing product research properly so if you guys are new to the channel make sure to subscribe like the video and let's jump into it and what I want to do is I have a bunch of different products and we're going to be going through and verifying them analyzing them taking a deep dive on them and help you decide okay
do these products have potential or not and the different things that I'm looking at so the first thing that I want to show you is the criteria for a good product this is basically kind of my reference um I'm not looking at this every single time because I kind of have it memorized but we have 10 different things that I'm looking at we have additional signs of good products and I have these basically ingrained in my head of okay this is what I'm looking at and basically from bird's eye view a first glance I can
basically look and be like Oh yeah this is going to have potential and I'm going to dig into it more or it's let's not even waste our time digging into it anymore so we're going to dive into this product first um it is a metal landscape edging so I was using um helium 10 blackbox just um we're talking five minutes ago coming up with product ideas of good examples products that have some potential products that uh maybe have potential but have some concerns and different things like that so if you guys want a tutorial on
how to find the products this is not the video I will put the link down below where I have a video showing you how to use helium 10 to find the products and then once you find the products the Second Step which is I'm showing you is how to actually verify them so we have the products found we have a list and that's kind of the first thing is to get a list of products that you are interested in and so the first one is this metal landscape edging and so it's like okay I'm interested
in this it looks like it has uh some potential but what am I going to look at first and the first thing is you need to have helium 10 if you don't you're going to fail and land flat on your face because there is no way for you to verify the data and to actually know whether or not the product has potential or not so I'll put the link down below you guys can get 20% off for the first 6 months and I'll show you guys exactly how to use this tool you want the Platinum
plan um and again I'll show you kind of how um everything uh works together so the first thing I'm looking at is I'm going to just scroll and look at the page and I'm going to see that we have products with 14 reviews 26 12 reviews 200 94 uh 2500 19 19200 so right off the get-go I can see on the first page there is a good variety of sellers that have high reviews and low reviews and a lot of the low reviews are the brand new Sellers and you can see that they sold 50
plus last month so I'm like okay well if this seller just launched has a 4.3 out of festar rating and they sold 50 units well hey that's looking promising again that doesn't mean it's a winning product but that is something that I'm like okay like this is actually worth diving into a little bit more if we see sellers I mean this seller doesn't have that many reviews and they sold 500 last month well let's look into it this seller 19 reviews and they sold 100 plus last month let's look into it so that gets me
kind of excited and that's the basically the first thing that I'm looking at is what what is the competition like are are these sellers actually selling um what does my competition look like and so from there I'm like okay that's great the next thing that I'm going to be looking at is the price so we have a $27 price point 90 PR $90 price point 69 8140 literally the five products right there all are very very different in price that gets me excited and if we scroll down right here again 75 6959 $12 $66 so
what I see right there is a big price disparity and that is crucial the price disparity means that I can come in and launch a product basically anywhere at this threshold of $100 to $27 and I can sell inventory I can compete and the biggest thing is new sellers they come in and they're trying to compete with razor thin margins and everyone is selling at a1599 or 19999 price point and everyone is just competing against margin and as soon as one person lowers the price everyone else lowers and then before you know it all the
margins are gone but if there's a big price disparity and you can come in at whatever price you want between 27 and $100 well that's where you can actually be profitable so that is another thing that I'm looking at so right there I'm like okay I can dive in further into the research process so I'm going to come over here I'm going to click on um the Chrome extension so I click X-ray and what this is going to do is it's going to pull up a huge graph for me to be able to analyze everything
that we just analyze but in more depth and this is where it's super super important so the average reviews uh is super low which means again the competition is not very uh not very high average price $63 this is great because I've seen prices higher I've seen prices lower and the higher uh the price products I like a little bit better because there's a little bit more margin to work with so anything over like 30 40 bucks that fits that criteria and then the next thing I'm looking at is the search volume so if we
come over here you can see it that if I come to the 30-day search volume you can see that it's pretty consistent so then I come to the 90day it looks like it's coming down if we come to the year we can see that January December it's a little slower but then it shoots up during the springtime and then it's starting to kind of taper off but if we come to the all time that's exactly what we see we see that it's super strong Springtime April May is the best time June like that's like kind
of the peak is April May is like the peak of the season because it's a metal landscaping edging is people are getting out cleaning up their yards during the Spree time so it makes sense now that doesn't mean that during the winter like January December like there's still some demand for it but there's just not that much so the biggest thing for me is after I just analyze that this product has a lot of potential but there's a few red flags and a few concerns that I want you to consider and understand before you just
go blindly launching this product and that is basically the keyword search history the search volume history over time and this looks like it's a pretty seasonal product so basically the question that you want to ask yourself is okay am I willing to do that am I at the right timing is it a good idea for me to do right now like let's analyze it and right now we're in the middle of summer we're just approaching back to school so we're coming into September and right now that is basically it's on the decline right now so
if I was to go launch this product I wouldn't launch it until December and that is basically the worst time to launch this product because that is at its lowest Peak that's at the lowest search and I would expect to not really sell any inventory because there's just not that much demand but let's say I found this product in December and I was like Hey like I could get this launched by let's say February uh end of January and start kind of that ride riding that wave up and I could take advantage of it for
a solid 6 months and crush it well if that's the case well hey you might have a great product and that's something that you could look at is are you going to be able to time the market correctly and when I say to avoid seasonal or trending products I definitely want to avoid seasonal products that are like calendars that are specific to a year um Halloween products products that are seasonal to where you have basically a month period to sell it and if you don't sell your inventory in that month you're basically screwed those are
the products that I'm definitely avoiding this however is very seasonal but if you have the right strategy you can make this work but again it's all about timing and so those are the things that you want to consider so for me I'm definitely not launching this product maybe I'll revisit it in December and see if there's something that I can look at but for right now it's definitely a hard pass but other than the seasonality of it things definitely checked out and things definitely look good and that is something that you'll definitely uh continue to
kind of understand as you verify more and more products so that is one product that I kind of analyzed and I could have analyzed that in a span of we're talking 30 seconds but for me to kind of explain my thought process it took me what five minutes um so again the more that you do it the more you're going to really understand so we're going to continue verifying these products and help you guys really see what's going through my head so that when it does come time for you you have the confidence so the
next one is this paintball gun for uh adults and this one's going to be a quick one for me it looked like it had a lot of good potential um again it looks like people are selling really good we've got low reviews and they're selling um quite a bit but for me personally I just want to avoid this category as a whole because I don't want this liability I don't want the liability of somebody getting shot in the eye and then I'm getting sued and so for me I'm like I'm not even going to worry
about this um now that doesn't mean that there's not sellers that are crushing it and that are making good money doing it because I mean they absolutely absolutely are like you can see this seller sold 100 plus last month at 130 bucks so that's 13 Grand so like there's definitely opportunity and and these sellers don't have a lot of reviews but again it's just one of those things where I'm like I'm just going to pass so I'm not even going to dive into it and waste my time because it's like I'm just avoiding that there's
too much liability so let's let's move to the next one we got a stainless steel cutting board and so this one I came across I was like hey this is interesting um like I I I've been seeing wood cutting boards the plastic cutting boards I've never seen a stainless steel cutting board but hey it makes sense um and so I'm like hey let's look into it so again the first thing I'm looking at we got low reviews this one no reviews 200 plus bot last month four reviews this one 7,000 plus bought last month and
they have 733 reviews obviously that's a big competitor but there are a lot of other people like lower reviews right here 4.4 out of five star ratings and they sold 500 plus last month again Lower reviews sold 400 plus so I'm like okay this one 29 reviews just barely launched 300 plus bought this gets me excited and so immediately I'm going to go and I'm going to dive into it more and again I can look at the price disparity you can see that there is uh $23 $40 $19 uh $475 that's looks like it's a
a container $50 like there's there's price disparity so that is good so again the next thing I'm going to go is pull up the extension again I'll put the link down below for helium 10 you guys can get 20% off for 6 months this is a no-brainer and we can see average reviews is a little high but I guarantee um if we come over here there's going to be some products that are irrelevant and what I mean by this is um there are probably bamboo cutting boards right here so this is a perfect example a
bambo bamboo cutting board that has 8,000 reviews and that's just not relevant so I'm going to remove that uh from my search and as you can see it dropped at what 50 reviews um so it's going to get less and less competitive as I start weeding out the non-related um cutting boards and so as I do that I'm like okay this like looks like it has some potential it's got average revenue of 16,000 average price uh 29 so it's a little lower but that's okay we at the search volume 18,000 that is a lot of
search so that means there's a lot of demand if we come to the search volume over time 30 days it's going up the last 90 days going up the last year it's going up all time it is going up and it's starting to Skyrocket so there's a few things that concern me here and this is again where I'm going through with my head this so far it looks really good but my biggest concern is is it trendy is it going to be something where everyone is going to jump on it and here in two months
there's going to be a hundred people selling the same exact product there's a possibility and the way that I vet that is if we come over here to the creation date you're going to see that all of these listings uh I would say 90% of them were created this year just in the last couple months and that is a red flag the fact that most of the listings are from this year makes me believe that more and more people are coming on to this idea and are going to be launching it and it could saturate
the market pretty quickly um and there's going to be a lot of new sellers beginners and it could get a little Cutthroat now that doesn't mean that you can't go and dominate but if you don't have the right skill sets well you're going to get dominated by the better seller and if I was selling this product versus you well I'm going to dominate you and that's just how it's going to be and so for for this I'm looking at this I'm like ah like there's just a lot of 202 24s and so I'd rather see
this be a little bit more 2019 2020 2021 some 2023 some 20 and and there are in there but the majority are 2025 and so for me I'm like okay this could have a lot of potential and if I would have found it maybe two three months ago and I could have launched it a little bit quicker then maybe there would have been potential or if you're going to launch it you need to really get going and take action and move move quickly and if it's going to take you six months to launch this product
well forget it don't even try but if you're saying like hey I want to capitalize on it I want to jump on it now well you need to go quick and start launching it like ASAP and so that would be kind of my thought processes here is hey it has potential but the potential like there's a a kind of a a limited time window for me to take advantage of it and I need to jump on it and so if you can move quickly then this product could have potential and the second part to that
is with me verifying it and if I need to move quickly I need to make sure that there's room for me to improve the product to differentiate the product so that when I come to Market I'm not selling the same exact product as everyone else now looking at these a lot of them are different but like this one you can see is literally the same exact mold it's the same exact cut these three are the same the only thing that's different is they have their brand on this one and this one is a three- pack
and this one's a two pack other than that they're the same and so what I would want to do is I want to come to to Market with something like this where as you can see they just launched and they're crushing it and it's because they implemented not implemented they innovated and they have like a plastic uh coating with an easy handle um with the stainless steel cutting board in the middle and so something like that it's very different and that's why they're able to charge 40 bucks for one compared to $49 for two and
so that's kind of the thought process that you're going to have to have if you launch this is move quick and make sure that you differentiate and improve the product in so then you could go and launch this um and you'd probably see some success now again I want to throw out a disclaimer um I know people are going to watch this video and they're going be like Oh I'm going to go launch this product because Trev said so don't do that learn how to do it yourself and if you don't want to learn how
to do it yourself then pay me and my team and we'll actually find you a product for you we'll handpick it we'll verify it we'll find you a manufacturer we'll help you launch to page one we'll get you through the entire process um but again don't just take these ideas and go launch them because what's going to happen and sometimes times I don't like doing these videos for that exact reason is people look at this and they're like oh I'm going to go launch it because Trevon said so and it's like no there are some
concerns and I I want to be clear with this there are concerns with this product and the last product and the last product before that too so again that's how I verify that let's jump into another one we've got um a tiki bar and this one uh caught my attention and again it's kind of the same thing we got low reviews bad reviews uh good price disparity um they're selling a lot and I'm like okay this is cash ing my attention and so again if it catches my attention that's where I will dive into it
a little bit deeper so then I'll come to uh the extension and I'll look into a little bit more and and be like okay yeah average reviews is super low search volume is fantastic 7,000 but what is the 30-day 90day okay okay this is interesting what is the all time again it's a little it's it's like this it's a roller coaster and so more than likely this is not the time October coming into the the fall it this is not the time to launch it if I'm going to be launching it the time to launch
it is like March end of February and and I could ride that wave and and that and it could have potential and so again looking at uh that is important now let's look at the creation date you can see that we have 2024 2023 2022 2020 2021 uh 20 like we have a wide variety of of creation dates that gets me excited um and and so again the biggest thing for me on this one is one it looks like it has some seasonal up and down but again if you can time it right uh then
it could totally work and here's a strategy for you is find a product that does well in the summer and then find a product that does well in the winter and you can basically flip-flop so you have one that does good for six months and then it's a little slow and when I say it's a little slow like it's still going to sell it's just not going to sell at the rate that it was selling during the summer and then you find a product that sells well during the winter to kind of cover up for
that and I know a lot of people that do that and see a lot of success so that's a little strategy for you again we've got the price disparity we've got uh low reviews bad reviews and they're still selling 200 plus um and then the only other concern that I have is this could be a very large product um at least this one that's selling for 659 like that one's massive where these ones are a little bit smaller because I'm sure you can basically take them apart and you can put them together and so you
can kind of compact it into a smaller uh like shipping box um and so it's not like too massive where like these ones like these are fullblown like bars uh that's that are going to weigh like 50 PBS and so I'm going to probably avoid those so that's kind of my thought process that's how I go through verify them um again I have this sheet that I'm kind of looking at for the criteria of a good product and additional signs if you guys want this send me a DM on Instagram saying product criteria I'll send
