The Sentry Is Insanely Overpowered

All right. Ever since I watched Thunderbolts, I've wanted to make a video on who, in my personal opinion, is the most interesting character that Marvel has introduced in a long time. That character obviously being the Sentry.

Why would a god take orders from anyone at all? The dude is an overpowered tank. And so, I wanted to talk about him in the MCU and some of the craziest [ __ ] he's done in the comics.

In Thunderbolts, Bob Reynolds got his powers after he volunteered to be experimented on with a juiced up super soldier serum called the Golden Sentry Serum. There was actually a bunch of people that took it and they all croked except for Bob. Bob was the only one that survived.

But before taking the serum, he was already a junkie who has a split personality and mental issues. And the serum made him into a beast, but it also enhanced his split personality into the void. Sentry himself has a lot of powers including super strength, crazy durability, what looked like some sort of heat vision type deal, flight, super speed, and telekinesis.

And then if he is somehow killed, you up because he turns into the void, which has all those powers plus like some sort of reality warping, which makes him pretty much unstoppable. In the movie, he stated to have the power of a thousand exploding suns and that he's stronger than all the Avengers combined. You could obviously argue this, but in my personal opinion, he [ __ ] up like 90% of the MCU's top dogs just as the sentry alone.

He doesn't have a lot of feats outside of easily taking out a group of super soldiers while looking unamused, but just the fact that he has telekinesis and super speed already puts him ahead by a mile. I've talked about this before, but these two powers are overpowered and he has both. If he's fighting any character that can't fly, he could just pick them up with his telekinesis and throw them into space easily, or just grab them and fly them into space.

And even if they can fly, he could just freeze them with his telekinesis, fly them up into space, and then throw them into the sun. or if they need to breathe, you can just cut off their oxygen and pack them up. And then super speed.

You know how I feel about super speed. When written consistently, you shouldn't be able to be touched. [music] And depending on how fast you are, you could be so overpowered that everything becomes almost too easy and becomes boring.

So, when I saw him actually using his super speed midfight, I kind of got a little harp, not going to lie. This is how Thor should have been moving, but they had my boy moving around like he was stuck in the mud. Prime Hulk, in my opinion, [music] would get stomped out by Sentry with ease for a couple of reasons.

We can assume he's probably on par in terms of strength and durability just based off the character itself. Don't know for sure, but I would assume so. But the Hulk is slow as [ __ ] compared to Sentry.

He wouldn't even be able to get in range unless the Sentry wanted him to. And keep in mind, I'm only talking about live action right now. The Sentry could easily just pick him up with his telekinesis, launch his big ass into space, boom, done and dusted.

If he would have been there for the Thanos fight, it would have been done in a couple of seconds. He could grab the gauntlet at super speed, take the gauntlet with his telekinesis, or just beat his ass with straight hands because Thanos wasn't even using the reality stone for anything useful. But overall, we haven't got to see a lot of sentry action because he's only in one movie, but we do in the comics where he's basically a god.

And so, I want to go over some of his best fights there. Not going to delve too much into the whole story, mainly just the fights. In New Avengers volume 1, Electro breaks into Riker, which is a secure prison that holds the most dangerous villains.

Electro frees all the prisoners in there and then all hell breaks loose in the prison and Luke Cage, Daredevil, Foggy, and Jessica Drw are in the lower level because they came here to see Sentry, who turned himself in after thinking he packed up his own wife. But before they get him to help, Carnage breaks out and starts [ __ ] [ __ ] up alongside other villains. And it looks like everyone's toast.

But Sentry finally grabs a hold of his nuts, grabs Carnage, flies him up into space, and just rips him in half like he's nothing. And then up top, Spider-Man, Captain America, now Luke Cage, Iron Man, Jessica Drw. Most of them are getting their asses beat except Luke Cage.

He's chilling, but they can't contain this. And it looks like they're all going to get taken out until Sentry comes down and stops the fight solo delo. After this, Sentry joins the team again because he never actually packed up his wife.

And pretty much any situation where the team can't handle it, they just call up Sentry, who comes down, handles business in seconds while barely trying because he doesn't want the void to take over. He fights this dude, Tarax, who is destroying the military. Sentry just grabs his cosmic axe, takes it away, breaks it, and then casually tells the dude to leave.

A little later on in the story, the Hulk and the Sentry go to the negative zone together. And there, the void comes out and easily breaks every bone in the Hulk's body. I should also mention the Hulk isn't afraid of [ __ ] But before going to the negative zone, he was asking if the void was going to be in there because he doesn't like him and he's scared of him.

In this story, Bob also learns that his wife is cheating on him with her yoga instructor. Bob has super hearing and this chick is on the phone talking to the yoga instructor talking about some I want to come see you. It's just complicated and Sentry obviously hears this.

Days later, she's doing yoga and Buddy is grabbing her from the back getting right up on her. I mean, just look at this [ __ ] And Bob walks in on it. Bob plays it cool and meets Ramon.

And Ramon has the audacity to say [music] Lindy's a good student. Very flexible. Your husband is the most powerful superhero on earth and has mental issues in a dark side and you're cheating on him.

You one dumb [ __ ] I understand we didn't actually see Raone laying pipe down on her, but the context clues it there, bro. A couple days go by and on the news it shows that an airplane randomly crashed into some apartment buildings. Turns out those apartment buildings were where Raone lives and Lenny's kind of freaking out and is like, "Is there anything you can do?

" And Bob just tells her, "I'm sure he's okay. " Evil. Don't blame him though.

Also, this technically wasn't the sentry. It was the void who did this. But [music] still, when he's in full control of the void, he was actually being a hero, saving tons of people every day and effortlessly taking down villains, and everybody loved him.

Then we jump ahead to World War Hulk. Little lore for this. Basically, [music] Reed Richards and a few other heroes tricked Hulk into getting on a spaceship and sent him away because they thought he was too dangerous.

He ended up on Sakar, where he lived an awesome life and had kids and a wife, but then the spaceship that brought him there blew up and killed everyone. The Hulk thought that the Avengers did this, so he got a ride back to Earth for revenge. He was destroying everyone.

This wasn't the MCU Hulk. This was a Hulk that the more pissed off he was, the stronger he was. He took a bunch of heroes and essentially made them fight in an arena.

Sentry sat this out for the most part because he and the Hulk are boys. But once the Hulk took it too far, Sentry decided to step in. He flies through the Hulk ship and destroys it.

Tackles Hulk and they fly through buildings. Sentry starts piecing him up, which sends him through buildings. They're trading juicers that are destroying the city.

Then the sentry uses his power to blast the Hulk, which it looks like it wipes out most of the city. And the Hulk is relatively unfased by this, which I feel is kind of stupid considering he ate a punch to the lips from the thing and it actually drew blood. He was also being injured by the military.

I think they were hitting him with like adamantium bullets or something, but you know what I'm saying. Not that this Hulk isn't an absolute tank, but like Sentry could have just flew his ass into space so that city doesn't get destroyed, but whatever. They continue to punch each other really hard and then they revert back into their regular forms and that's that pretty much.

The heroes that were like standing around watching, they all somehow survive even though the punches were destroying the city. Not sure how that works. I'm not the biggest fan of this fight just because the writing was kind of just not the greatest.

And what I'm about to get into later makes the sentry being an equal to the Hulk in this fight make zero sense. Without getting into too much detail, after the events of Secret Invasion, Harry Osborne makes a team of villains as the new Avengers in the Dark Avengers comic. [music] He manipulates Sentry into joining the team by making him think he's doing the right thing and he's going to be saving lives and making the world better.

And so the Sentry becomes their main weapon for the worst situations. When Sorceress Morgana Lefay, I really hope I'm saying that right, easily overpowered Dr Doom, the Dark Avengers pulled up to help. Bob flies down and instantly grabs her and packs her up in one motion.

But this chick isn't from this timeline. She's from the past and can just bring herself to this time like however many times she wants. So after learning a spell that can take out Bob, she pulls up and takes Bob out.

But then after the fight, the team comes back to find Bob casually floating in front of the tower. He somehow came back to life and no one, not even he himself, knows how he did it. We jump a little later on and the Atlantanss decided to strike and they're destroying Earth.

So who gets the call to save the day? Sentry, obviously. Osborne tells him to go and kill all the Atlantanss but one.

So he does. He flies down there, wrecks their whole [ __ ] solo dooo, and calls it a day within like, I don't know, minutes. The dude can just solve any problem on his own.

They don't even need a team. It's ridiculous. Let me introduce you to someone.

This is Owen Ree, the molecule man. He is yet another character who's practically a god. Seems to be a lot of them at this point.

He can manipulate all molecules and pretty much warp reality. Dude's insane. He can pretty much do anything to anyone while just chilling in a chair.

Doesn't matter how powerful they are. He makes Bob vanish from where he was. Then he makes Bob, I don't know, suffer with bubbles or something, but he feels Bob is too much of [music] a threat.

So he blows him up and turns him into water. But a little later on, Bob is able to reform himself back and the void comes out a little bit. He then just emerges from out of nowhere and tackles Owen Ree, but Owen just blows him apart yet again.

And Bob comes back again and uses molecule manipulating powers on Owen that he didn't even know he had and tells Owen to fix everything. Then he packs him up. Sentry then tells Osborne that he learned he can control molecules and that's how he was coming back from the dead.

So, he realizes he can't die. He's immortal. [music] This also means he should be able to end anyone simply by raising a finger at the most.

Keep that in mind. Remember Bob's cheating wife, Lindy, that loves him so dearly? Well, after she thought he'd gone off the deep end, she stole an alien weapon from Novar and held Bob at gunpoint and then just smoked him on the spot.

Unfortunately for her, though, the void took over. The void belittles and then threatens Lindy. And right before he's about to end her, Bob takes over, flies himself to the sun, and tries to fry himself.

Obviously, this doesn't work, though. So, he comes back down and the void pretty much just takes over and starts destroying the city. I mean, he's just blowing up everything.

And all heroes are on deck while Norman tries to bring Bob back, which he does by making him deal with the void. That deal being Osborne having Bullseye pack up Lindy. Yeah, but things like this are why Bob's such a great character.

He's overpowered to the point it's ridiculous. But he has to constantly hold back so that the void doesn't come out and take over. And everyone around him are scared of him.

Doesn't matter if they're heroes or villains because they know that if he turns into the void, everybody's cooked. All right, now let's jump to my personal favorite fights, the Asgardian [music] war. Norman Osborne decides to basically go to war with Asgard, which is now in Oklahoma due to the events of Ragnarok.

Now, keep in mind, Aries, the god of war, is on Osborne's team. But Osborne manipulates Aries into fighting his own people by telling him that Asgard is under Loki's ruling and they're dangerous. So, they pull up to fight and Sentry is just plowing through Asgard, but Thor shows up and quickly gets tackled and thrown down by Sentry.

And some other team members pull up to light him up and take him out of commission for a while. And while fighting, Heimdoll reveals to Aries that he's being played and Asgard is not under Loki's rule. So Aries tries going after Osborne, but before he can kill him, Sentry rolls in out of nowhere, punches him, and knocks him in the next week.

They then have a little staredown, and you think that a wild fight is about to go down. Aries is a literal god and can throw down and beat the strongest of people, but Sentry kind of just smacks him around, does whatever he wants to him, then grabs him and just straight up rips him in half. Then Osborne tells Bob to go after Thor, so he does.

And you can see the void starting to slip out a little bit. Sentry lets Thor have the first hit, which knocks him back, but deals no damage. But while that happens, Osborne starts getting his ass beat.

So he tells Bob to let loose and just go full on. So Bob flies through Asgard and just destroys the whole place. And then the void is fully unleashed.

And he pretty much just starts taking out everybody. But Loki is able to use the stones of Norn to get everybody juiced up and fight back. Doesn't make much sense to me when we learn Bob can essentially warp reality and manipulate matter.

Everyone should be toast instantly. But I guess then the heroes wouldn't win. So they all fight back.

But even Thor's lightning does nothing. And when the void figures out that Loki is juicing everyone up, the void grabs him and rips him apart. Tony takes control of Osborne's ship and uses it to nuke the void, which decimates everything and brings back Bob.

Bob begs to be packed up, but when Thor says no, the void comes out. So Thor uses his lightning to fry Bob dead. Doesn't make much sense to me.

The power levels in these comics are honestly so inconsistent that it's kind of baffling. Bob can survive flying into the sun and fighting the Hulk, but a ship blowing up hurts him and Thor's lightning ends him. [ __ ] But yeah, that was the end of Bob.

Well, he comes back later on, but technically he does die here. Other than some inconsistencies on how powerful he is. He's a pretty dope and well-written character.

And I actually prefer his origins in the Thunderbolts movie rather than the comics because they keep it simple and straightforward. And the fact that he can be limited while still being overpowered is what makes him so interesting. And I think he's going to [ __ ] up in Doomsday.
