Have We Become too casual with God is the creator of the universe the one who gave us life who formed us in our mother's womb treated with the reverence he deserves or have we allowed our culture our distractions and our own Pride to reduce him to just a distant figure today I want to talk about the serious matter of disrespecting God not just with our words but with our actions our attitudes and our choices let let's take a moment to explore what the Bible says about honoring the Lord think about it God who created the
heavens and the Earth deserves our highest reverence yet if we're honest with ourselves there are times when we treat him as though he's an afterthought times when we brush off his word ignore his commands and even live as though he's not watching scripture is clear about how we should approach god with awe respect and a humble heart in the Old Testament God repeatedly calls his people to honor him in Exodus 27 it says you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain for the Lord will not hold him Guiltless who takes
his name in vain this is one of the Ten Commandments this is foundational but disrespecting God goes beyond our words it's about living in a way that reflects his Holiness our world today encourages us to treat everything lightly nothing seems sacred anymore even the name of God is used in vain in everyday conversations in movies and across social media it's become just another expression or punchline rather than the holy powerful name that it is but disrespecting God doesn't just happen in speech it happens in our actions and the way we prioritize Our Lives let me
ask you when was the last time you chose entertainment over prayer or skipped church because you were tired these small decisions can quietly add up to a lifestyle that says God isn't my first priority remember Jesus warned us in Matthew 6:24 no one can serve two masters you cannot serve both God and money in a world filled with distractions the greatest disrespect we can show God Is by allowing something or someone else to take his place in our hearts I want to share a story with you Mark was a Christian who loved God but he
was con stantly overwhelmed by work he told himself that he was doing it for his family for their future But as time went on his prayer life grew shorter his church attendance became less frequent and soon his connection to God felt almost non-existent he'd say I'm too busy but the truth was Mark had disrespected God by letting his priorities shift now Mark's story isn't unique is it many of us can relate to that maybe we're not openly rebelling against God but our actions still dishonor him when we fail to give God the time the love
and the obedience he deserves we living like he doesn't matter this is why Colossians 3:17 reminds us and whatever you do whether in word or deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through him every part of our Lives should reflect our respect for God so how do we stop disrespecting God in our daily lives first we need to acknowledge the areas where we've been neglectful take an honest look at your relationship with God are there things in your life that you've allowed to take precedence over
him second we must return to reverence reverence is about showing deep respect and honor we can do this in simple ways starting our day with prayer reading the Bible consistently making church attendance a priority and being mindful of our words and actions let's also teach the Next Generation to honor God Parents this starts with you your children will learn to respect God by watching how you live Deuteronomy 667 says these Commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts impress them on your children talk about them when you sit at home and
when you walk along the road when you lie down and when you get up finally we need to align our values with God's word what we prioritize how we spend our time time how we use our money what we watch and what we listen to everything should be done with a heart that seeks to honor him it's time to stop disrespecting god with a casual attitude toward his Holiness he is worthy of our respect our time our devotion disrespecting God doesn't always look like Rebellion often it looks like distraction and neglect Brothers and Sisters Let's
return to honoring our Lord in everything we do let's live with a reverence that reflects the greatness of our God Proverbs 9:10 tells us the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy one is understanding if we want to live wise Godly lives it starts with deep respect for the one who gave us life I want to encourage you today to take a moment to pray ask God to reveal any area of your life where you've disrespected him even unintentionally seek his forgiveness and commit to putting him first in
your life this journey of honoring God begins with small daily choices let's pray Lord we come before you in humility acknowledging that at times we failed to honor you as you deserve help us to see where we've been distracted and give us the strength to live in a way that glorifies you help us to rever your name your word and your presence in our lives in Jesus name amen and as you move forward remember God isn't asking for Perfection but for hearts that honor him so will you choose today to live in a way that
respects the God who loves you God bless you and guide you on this journey
