when I did the Fanta commercials the W don't you want to we shot that here in Brazil in sou Paulo wow uh the second time was uh when I did like a convention and I was in Rio and then the third time was when I did Vogue Brazil uh with my girl minina so shout out if you're watching this minina wow yeah I know her um and then now yeah yeah she sure she was everyone um and now and now now are you having fun I I love it yes yeah I love it it's amazing
I'm eating all of your food I don't know what the country is going to do when I leave because I'm eating all of your food there will be no food left for anyone else have you tried Brazilian food um okay let me say right pook sorry yeah um I I have to have it every hour um and and cheesy bread how do I say it I've been saying iton Pon ponu I had about 10 of them now so um we have some some Brazilian food here I make a lot of asai at home so I
love it it's a big thing it's a big thing yes but after um we have a a game here it's food yes and you will try okay okay okay I'm like an expert after being here for one day I've basically eaten all the Brazilian food but we'll see what you got okay okay have you had contact with your Brazilian fans because every day of my life really every day of my life yes because I think they must be very happy with two shows here yeah yeah they every day for years now a decade every day
on my Instagram Facebook Twitter they're just like come to Brazil come to Brazil I'm here I'm here I came I'm here and um by the way uh let's talk about your new single yeah and about your new album can you tell me tell us about please sure I wanted to do something more than just come to Brazil and take selfies although I think that would have been also fun and fine um we wanted I wanted to um release this record I had planned to release it last year but I held on to it and um
we wanted to do something that was pop and could have reintroduced myself since it had been two years since I released any music so it been a while uh and I wanted to do it here in Brazil and it's a very like 80s um Vibe like pop syy dance kind of vibe so I think everyone will really like it yeah yeah and the album comes out November first well it's an EP so it's four songs um four songs four songs and then a a bigger album which is a separate project comes out next year ah
okay so I have two projects one after the other so no no breaks for me except p take a break for that after this are you going to visit visit other countries after Brazil just good with Brazil thanks really yeah I'm good with Brazil yeah I'm good I'm happy for our days no I mean listen I'm sure I'm sure that I know that I have uh some I have a couple more countries to do some like um meet and greets I know I have a performance in the States but in terms of like big big
shows Brazil is my first big show um like almost like I I guess if it was would be a a tour launch or something I guess that would be it would be Brazil but I'm always traveling and I'm always seeing fans from all over the world but in terms of people getting like exclusive music I don't know they got to show up the way the Brazilian fans show up and then maybe I'll come yeah maybe I'll come you got to be like you got to be like Brazil and then maybe I'll come do a show
um what day in the in the next year March March March 21st is the show here and then the 22nd is in Rio wow so we're going to turn it out and why did you decide to be an actress and singer I don't I was like four or five years old really so it was less about like a decision versus like oh this is who I am like I need ballet class I need acting class I need my parents like I don't I can't I don't have a driver's license I'm four years old take me
to my classes you know just very much like cuz a lot of people have parents that maybe push them not mine my parents did not care at all um I was the one constantly like let's do it let's go let's go I want to do it like 5 hours of dance class every day vocal lessons like everything so wow yeah there was never like a moment where I'm like I want to be it was like no I am let's get it done attitude so yeah congratulations yeah um ah now I I have a question for
you okay how did you meet J Vigor oh my God I love him I think we just met on Instagram really yes yes I love him so I love him so much he is just oh my gosh is he in Sal Paulo um I don't know no I don't think so I don't think so yeah maybe in Rio I think well anyways he's got to come to the show anyways um I H the Instagram and then I think he was a part of um I've gone on my zooms or something I don't remember I don't
remember but I do remember talking to him a lot and uh I just love him yeah he's I love him me too I haven't met oh yeah yet we have to do um whenever I come back maybe we we bring him wow and that'd be nice thank you he's so sweet and do you know any other Brazilian artists yeah well I'm I stay up in Louisa Souza's messages I'm always like hey I'm coming in town hey I want to go to dinner hey you listen to the record I sent you hey you want to do
a song together like I'm always she's lovely um I love Anita um who else I also I'm very old school like Brazilian movies I like old school movies like um black Orphus orus nego or like city of God I really loved um I really love like Carmen Miranda because of her style she was like you know that's the chaita banana girl for anyone watching in America they don't know who I'm talking about um but like you know I love old school like like Sergio Mendes who kind of like launched this this sound I also love
like bosan NOA kind of right Vibe like Brazilian funk for me was a huge influence um especially because I was I've always a lot of people don't know I'm really into jazz so I love like I love Brazilian Jazz so there's like parts of me that are probably boring but that's that's something I I really really do like but I'm I'm learning a lot more about what's on the radio here uh but there's some great music great Brazilian music yeah great now we have a game you're crushing it you're doing so good really yeah you're
fluent oh my wow yes you are yeah you're fluent fluent no no thank you so much yeah oh thank you yeah you're fluent I I have um I'm afraid Don't Be Afraid okay okay when I I need speaking I wish I had this because my problem is I will go into a country not fluent at all and torture everyone with my terrible thing and I'm like I'm fluent it's okay you don't know what I'm saying you don't it's my accent but I'm fluent so it's nice you have humility Fe your fluent oh thank you now

I do these like meat and greets and I have one I have a meat and greet coming up on Friday yeah just for the just like to hang out with everyone and sometimes a lot of fans bring me chocolates from their country but like they're not good but now I'm really excited for them to bring me all the peanut snacks yeah this was crazy okay everything I would have one of these but I ate one in the car you can just you don't mind I'm just going to okay this doesn't look suspicious at all just
hugging people and you can hear it no problem having trouble sleeping I just [Laughter] go so good thank you for for play with me thank you for feeding me um now tell tell us a little bit more about your social work with refugees yeah how did it start how did it start I started when I [Music] um the first trip I did I went to Jordan um to visit Syrian refugees in like 2013 and then I went everywhere from Mexico to [Music] um to South Sudan to Ethiopia um uh Greece Uganda all over the world
now I'm actually I'm doing a mission trip this um yeah this week in uh here in Brazil so I'll get to meet um a lot of different refugees while I'm here as well uh and it's just something that was always really important to me me I come from refugees I'm I'm West African and um Eastern European on my mom's side so yeah it's important work and you honored by time right yeah yeah congratulations thank you that's cuz they hadn't had a a briad that would have taken my spot as the next great leader of the
Free World for sure that's the only reason is they haven't tried one but yeah yeah ah now um I I have a other other question question um about um Bonnie sure uh what Bonnie what does Bonnie mean to you in your life well you know it was the show that launched me internationally um and it was the show that uh brought me into the living rooms of so many Brazilians and and other people and it was the The Catalyst to I think a lot of the passionate fans um and and they've stayed with me from
that to to the records now right so it's it was their introduction to me um and you know was it was uh it was interesting I was um I think the only minority on the show so what I think it meant to me and I think a lot of the fans was representation and and not just representation because I'm black but representation for women that might feel powerless and to find it within themselves and to keep pushing forward and I think that that's what people really like and so I've been trying to continue that idea
um in my music in my humanitarian work yeah you know going to visit um a women's center this week in Brazil so that idea of empowering people in from a place of Truth um and even from sometimes a place of loss uh I think definitely has contributed to my narrative as an artist especially with broken hearts club for sure how was it like to play Diana Ross strange I'm like are you guys sure oh my God has it been a mistake really no I mean I never I never I never thought that we looked alike
you know and then once we got it into the hair and makeup I was like wow it look like her you know it was really cool it was really cool I mean you know I don't want to say too much about it cuz I have to talk about it all next year um but it was very cool okay it was very cool I I I wait yes it was very fun um and about your book you wrote yeah seasons of you um tell me about your experience um how was the experence experience of writing the
book and um do you plan to write more books I don't no art is Art and creating for me is such a spontaneous thing I wake up and I'm like oh I got to write this song I wake up and I'm like oh I want to I want to play this kind of character um and with Seasons it was really like uh I'm hoping that it's like a it's a it's a wellness Journal it's it's my book but it's also your book it's the book that you write when you're going through the changes the seasons
