did you know Russia owns land in the Norwegian islands of Svalbard When the Swalbard islands were discovered by Dutch sailors everyone was allowed to extract resources and send settlements to these islands The Dutch also created this mining town called Grunfordan The 1919 Paris Treaty gave Swalbard's ownership to Norway but the Dutch were allowed to keep the town In the 1930s USSR bought this town and renamed it Baronssburg making Russia more western than countries like Czecha and Poland
