[Music] we [Music] oh hey what's up guys welcome or welcome back to living in the Pacific Northwest with hird I'm Jared bird and I'm coming to you on a special video this is one of my favorite subjects and topics and activities in the world is about bikes and this particular video is about our experience with peabot the Portland Bureau of Transportation Ride Through The Season's initiative kickoff ride and as you may or may not know Portland is a worldclass bicycle City there have some really good bike infrastructure and they actually encourage people to get out
there and take other forms of transportation outside of a car so this ride was about basically how to encouraging and inspiring people to stay on your bike through the fall through the winter spring some tips and advice you'll see in this video about how to ride in the wet weather some things to look out for but again I since moving up to the Northwest I've kind of rekindled my love and passion for bicycles and you know if you think about it the most worldclass cities typically are very what we call multimodal so they're not super
car Centric cars play a role as do walking and biking which is a great way to get around see the city exercise and for us make new friends and see new neighborhoods in Portland so I hope you love this video let us know in the comments if you like it maybe some other video ideas you may have in mind and I encourage you to check out our entire Northwest by bike series and playlist bunch of different videos we're putting together different experiences and rides that we're having on two wheels one of my very favorite ways
to get around so again thanks for watching this video thanks for joining this Channel and I'll see you at the end oh yeah I'm sorry ride etiquette yes so we're going to stay as a group again I'm the lead team will be to the Caboose um we're going to try to use hand signals so uh this is a right turn this is a left turn this is also a right turn um you can also use stopping as a hand down since we're also going to be riding pretty close to each other if you see like
a pothole or something for people to avoid it's best practice to shout it out because they may not be able to see it with enough distance um cuz you're you're blocking them so yeah shout out pothole you can also shout out stopping especially if you're making a sudden stop um to let your other Riders know what you're doing um and then this is a no drop ride so we're going to stick together as a group any questions about ride etiquette and I'm the swe so if you get behind me that's fine if you don't want
to be on the ride anymore but if you want to be on the ride you know stay next to me or ahead of [Music] [Music] me I remember [Music] I [Music] remember I remember [Music] [Music] I used to know you I used to know you I used to know I used to know I us to [Music] know all [Music] me [Music] [Music] [Music] one it's going downhill it's definitely a little Slicker in the wet weather so just make sure you're taking it slowly and breaking uh the JC's actually relatively steep as you probably felt it
coming uphill so it's a good example of that um um the second thing is crossing railroad tracks so railroad tracks are the number one cause of bike injuries in Portland um and so and I just had a friend the other week uh get her wheel stuck and and flip over so they're even Slicker in wet weather so try to take them at as perpendicular an angle as possible um and like be confident with them I think when people get scared that's when you actually become more likely to crash that's a good point [Music] I [Music]
remember I [Music] remember I remember [Music] I [Music] remember I [Music] remember me me me I remember [Music] I [Music] me I remember me me I [Music] remember me I remember me [Music] me me I remember [Music] me I [Music] remember me me I remember [Music] me me [Music] [Music] you I used know I us know I used know I used know us I us I us [Music] [Music] so we are returning from a awesome ride as you can see those headlights are dancing the tail lights are flashing had a great great time riding around
Portland learning some great all weather riding tips you can see our stats here just under 8 Miles very casual leisurely pace so again you can get out there this isn't anything hardcore so I encourage you to get on the bike take advantage of of this great City and area we live in and we'll see you in the next video hope you enjoyed ciao [Music]
